XFC 9 results and quick recap for 'Evolution'

One of the true up-and-coming mixed martial arts promotions in the United States, Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC), hosted the ninth event of its young history last night at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida.
XFC 9: "Evolution" aired live on HDNet, featuring a main event between UFC exile, "War Machine," and two-time Elite XC veteran, Mikey Gomez.
Gomez came into the bout having lost three straight, including back-to-back defeats to Jesse Juarez on Bellator Fighting Championship cards. And he certainly didn't find things any easier inside the XFC cage against "The Ultimate Fighter" 6 alum -- the man formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver.
War Machine put an end to Gomez's night early on in the third frame by finishing off the Orlando resident with a barrage of strikes. The win marked five in a row for the Undisputed Team Hurricane Awesome member since his last stop in the UFC's Octagon in May of 2008 at UFC 84.
Each of those five victims tasted defeat before the final bell.
In the co-main event of the night, XFC bantamweight champion Jason Goodall dropped the first fight of his career when he was forced to tap out in the fourth round to a triangle choke from submissions expert and new XFC 135-pound champion, Pablo Alfonso.
Here are the full results from XFC 9: "Evolution:"
War Machine defeated Mikey Gomez via technical knockout (strikes) at 0:19 of round three
Pablo Alfonso defeated Jason Goodall via submission (triangle) at 2:40 of round four to become the new XFC bantamweight champion
Bruce Connors defeated Tim Synder via technical knockout (strikes) at 2:00 of round one
Julien Williams defeated Jeremy Thurlow via submission (guillotine) at 0:51 of round three
Nate Jolly defeated Frank Santore via unanimous decision
Chris Barnett defeated Daniel Perez via technical knockout (strikes) at 0:47 of round two
Gerardo Julio Gallegos defeated Hayder Hassan via technical knockout (strikes) at 0:57 of round one
Rey Trujillo defeated Shah Bobonis via split decision
Sean Bartlett defeated Jesse Benton via submission (rear naked choke) at 4:01 of round one
That's it from the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. Next up for the promotion is a trip across the pond to Berlin, Germany, for XFC 10 on Dec, 12. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more details on that card as we get closer.

Agreed. I think he would be pretty marketable and a great asset to Strikeforce.

I think Strikeforce will eventually pick up War Machine. he’s marketable and a lot of MMA fans know him already. Plus, 5 wins outside the big shows should give him the opportunity to be placed in a bigger show to see what he’s got, right? :)

Yeah! F*ck JOn Koppenhaver! His moniker sux! He’s racist, and he is ugly! I could beat him up without any regret!!!

Who is Jon Koppenhaver? He doesn’t exist. This man that the thread is essentially about is named War Machine.

He should definitely go try to fight in Strikeforce. He’s marketable and he always comes to fight. He brings it so he might as well. He could get the next level of competition there.

I find it funny that Jason Goodall lost, especially since Franklin McNeil was talking him up as being 1 of the top5 prospects of MMA on the last episode of MMA live,,,,lol

I’ve seen Goodall fight live before, his last fight with Haender Rodriguez. It was one of the best fights I’ve ever seen live. He took some serious punishment and hung around to turn that fight around late. He’s all heart, but top 5 prospect in MMA is a little overboard.

He’s not doing himself any favors with the “classy” post-fight interviews.

He really did change his name legally, what an effen idiot. People are ridiculous! If his mma career doesn’t take off what the hell is he going to do then. Apply for a job at the local grocery food chain with the name War Machine!!!
Anyway XFC is my local promotion and they have done a really good job at slowly building up a decent brand while maintaining a local stock of fighters. I am from the Tampa area and remember there first few promotions. They opened up a huge gymon Brandon, which is next to Tampa. Crazy to see this little promotion growing into an mma force.

He did it because some wrestling program had a character by the name of War Machine or something like that and wanted him to stop using it because of trademarks. So he changed his named to War Machine legally so he could still be called by it. Not syaing it’s smart but that’s why.
