UFC 103 fight card and complete line up announced for Sept. 19 in Dallas

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has confirmed the remaining under card bouts for its next major pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is scheduled for the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009.
The final 13-fight line up for UFC 103 — the promotion’s first trip Texas since UFC 69 in April 2007 — is now official (even though we’ve known about the match ups for some time now).
UFC 103 will feature a main event between Rich "Ace" Franklin and Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort at a 195-pound catchweight. Also slated for the main card is a heavyweight tilt between former PRIDE superstar Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and surging heavyweight prospect Junior Dos Santos.
In addition, Martin Kampmann and Mike Swick will collide to determine the number one contender for Georges St. Pierre’s 170-pound title.
Here is the complete UFC 103 fight card:
Main event:
195 lbs.: Rich "Ace" Franklin (25-4) vs. Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort (18-8)
Main card (Televised on PPV):
265 lbs.: Junior "Cigano" Dos Santos (8-1) vs. Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (25-6-2)
170 lbs.: Martin "Hitman" Kampmann (15-2) vs. Mike "Quick" Swick (15-2)
170 lbs.: Josh "Kos" Koscheck (12-4) vs. Frank "Twinkle Toes" Trigg (19-6)
155 lbs.: Hermes Franca (19-7) vs. Tyson Griffin (13-2)Under card (Partially televised on Spike TV):
155 lbs.: Efrain "Hecho en Mexico" Escudero (11-0) vs. Cole "Magrino" Miller (15-3)
155 lbs.: Jim Miller (14-2) vs. Steve Lopez (12-1)
155 lbs.: Rafaello "Tractor" Oliveira (8-1) vs. Nick "The Carnie" Lentz (16-3-1)
170 lbs.: Paul "Semtex" Daley (21-8-2) vs. Brian Foster (10-3)
185 lbs.: Tomasz "The Gorilla" Drwal (16-2-1) vs. Drew "The Massacre" McFedries (8-5)
205 lbs.: Eliot "The Fire" Marshall (7-1) vs. Jason Brilz (17-1-1)
205 lbs.: Vladimir "The Janitor" Matyushenko (22-4) vs. Igor Pokrajac (21-5)
155 lbs.: Rafael dos Anjos (11-4) vs. Rob "The Saint" Emerson (9-7)
We’re now just over two weeks away from showtime, which will have its share of storylines. Can Belfort return to form and make a run at another UFC championship? Will Dos Santos rename Mirko Filipovic "KO Cop?"
And who will be the next man to challenge uber-champion Georges St. Pierre at 170-pounds?
Feel free to share your thoughts and predictions on "Franklin vs. Belfort" in the comments section below. And remember that MMAmania.com will be the spot for the latest news and event-related highlights before, during and after the event.

I really like this card minus Griffin/Franca. Garbage.
I would rather see Escudero/Miller or Drwal/McFedries.

You will see those two fights, OJR. They are the two fights Spike is broadcasting in the hour before the main card starts. Win/win.

oJR: whats your beef with the Griffin/Franca fight?
I expect a good scrap. The only problem is that it is destined to go to a decision. Neither fighter will be able to finish the other. Tyson is tough as FOCK to submit, and Franca can take a beating. I already bet money on Tyson although I am a Franca fan. Franca has a better chance of finishing the fight with one of his clubbing hands, or devestating knees…but unfortunatley I expect Griffin to grind out a decision.
This will be a better fight then that crap of a fight between Kos and Trigg!
THey need to air the Semtex fight!
Who is that Kat Igor with a 21-5 record?
Very happy that the Janitor is in the UFC. He is a solid fighter!
by john G on Sep 3, 2009 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Semtex is having his fight shown on ESPN UK before the PPV starts so that pretty much rules out his fight being shown on Spike and it might cost him a slot on the PPV as filler because it would be pretty dumb for us fans to see the same fight twice on the same broadcast.

OJR- What? Are you kidding me. Griffin has become the new Alex Stiebling. But franca until my boy Thiago Tavares (who was robbed) or Gleison or Dos Anjos or Aurelio has serious power in his strikes. Sick ground game but Franca;s prone to getting LNP’d. Tyson though isn’t an LNP type wrestler so there are spaces where he can get caught. If his cardio game is on point, FOTN.
Kat Igor- Cro Cop’s striking coach i believe. Only fought in small shows in eastern europe. Doesn’t have the wrestling to keep it standing but then again Vlady is a stand and banger now so who knows.
They will air the Semtex fight but only in england so catch it on the interwebs.

I like the upset special on that one too!
But I think otherwise about your CroCop and Swick picks. I have a feelin’[or I guess I’m right] that Kampmann is the underdog here. As for uncle Junior D, he’s gonna be turnin’ heads once again in the HW div and tellin’ us once again that he is indeed here! NOw! Uncle Junior’s home baby!!

I like JDS, kos, griffin, swick and vitor as the upset special.

Belfort (if he catches Franklin with one of those bombs then Rich will have another highlight reel KO from a Brazilian, though there is always a chance that Rich can grind out a decision)
Dos Santos (Cro Cop’s past it and JDS’ hand speed and power will be too much for him to deal with)
Swick (close fight, I think Mike just edges it on the feet but a tough one to call, either will get crushed by GSP regardless)
Koscheck (he’ll be a lot more cautious this time and rely on his wrestling to win by UD)
Griffin (decision Griffin strikes again)
by David W-S on Sep 3, 2009 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions
David: I see the fights going the same way as you.
Belfort has a GREAT shot at beating anyone that wants to stand with him, his Achilles heel is wrestlers (although his wrestling has improved throughout the years. Franklin is nothing special at wrestling, and Franklin wants to stand and Bang with anyone, which I believe is a bad idea in this fight. Vitor’s hand will prove to be much to fast for Rich’s robotic hands. Keys to Victory for Vitor: AVOID Rich’s Kicks and he will win this fight! Everytime Rich throws a kick, Vitor must punish him with a straight punch right on Rich’s chin and make Rich think twice about trying to blast him with kicks. I expect an epic battle, but Vitor will win it!
Dos Santos wil prove to be to much for an aging cro cop. If Cro Cop is getting better of the stand up, Santos can resort to his BJJ Brown belt from the Nog brothers. If Cro Cop is getting beaten in the stand up, what does he have to fall back on? NOt a damn thing. I bet money on junior already!
Swick/Kampman will be a really close fight. As much as I hate Swick, I see him winning a close (split) decision!
Kos wil be more cautious but it wont really matter…Trigg doesnt pose any real threat. Trigg never Ko’ed anyone standing. and he wont be outwrestling kos…thats for sure (and I hate Kos). Koscheck via decision.
griffin will win a decision (surprise surprise)
This is a good card, but what I dont like about it is that we willl see too many decisions, which wont leave us any room for any of the great undercard fights to air….and the UFC and spike are being cheap and only airing 2 undercard fights on spike.
I want to see SEMTEX!!!!
David: who do you like in the Dos Anjos/Emerson fight? I think Anjos is going to dominate! HIs leg compression on Tyson was awesome!

lol come on frosnt, all favorites? why bother telling us your picks?
by brendan on Sep 3, 2009 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions
What can I say they’re good favs. And Franklin and JDS are not heavy favorites and most ppl on the internet are picking Vitor so I thought it was worth saying
by frosnt on Sep 3, 2009 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions
So hard to decide between Franklin and Vitor. I know what I am getting with Franklin, but Vitor has about 3 different versions. Only 1 of those beats franklin.
by naturalshadow on Sep 3, 2009 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions
THats what I say Brendan! I never got the point of people posting their picks if they are just going to pick the favorites! I mean whats the point?
by john G on Sep 3, 2009 8:50 PM EDT up reply actions
I thought it was about people picking who they actually think will win the fights. If those fighters are all favorites, so be it. It’s not like the favorites go 5/5 very often anyway, and most of these fights are super-close odds.

nice picks Manalito. Although, im banking on Cro-Cop or JDS to finnish this one. Im taking Cro-Cop by TKO. Hopefully he will pick and choose when to strike and expload on him instead of getting into exchanges.

This is a sweet card, I’ll be watching all the prelim fights as soon as I can find them afterward.
I’m goin with
Belfort
CC
Kampman
Kos
Griffin
all are pretty tough to call though. If lay down any $$ it’ll be straight money on Belfort as he’s the underdog right now, and I think his chances are excellent in this fight.

not the whole card lol. 105 is free on spike thus far. but that may change. this one is showing some of the prelims til the ppv. (1 hours worth).

Plus British fans get the Daley fight on ESPN before the live show starts, as they’ve struck a deal to show all prelims featuring British fighters on TV before the PPV. Oh joy (to be fair the Daley fight might be decent but most of the British fighters are on the prelims for a reason).

Very excited for this card. Hope Vitor comes back in ridiculous fashion, and JDS vs. Cro Cop is likely to be out of control, thought I dont see a KO being that they both will probably be too respectful of each other’s power.

You guys who are talking about Franklin TKOing Belfort need to remember that Belfort has never been KO’d on his feet and the one and only time he was ever pounded out on the ground was TWELVE YEARS ago by a much larger “young” heavyweight named Randy Couture. I think Rich is a great fighter and fully capable of winning a decision against “the Phenom” but the chances of him finishing Vitor are slim to none.
by shonuff on Sep 3, 2009 3:04 PM EDT reply actions
I agree with this. That’s just what I was thinking.
by GodDamnMike on Sep 3, 2009 5:13 PM EDT up reply actions
And although I hear Rich has excellent ground skills, Vitor is a BJJ Black Belt and was once listed just behind Rickson Gracie as #2 JiuJitsu guy alive. Vitor is basically a bigger, faster, stronger, more technical, more experienced version of Nate Marquart. His only losses (except the legendary Sakuraba) have been to world champions. And his only weakness is psychological. And with Randy working with him on his mental toughness, he’s poised to rock the division.

Franklin over Vitor u fail to realize that mental toughness is a bigger part of the game than physical toughness at this level. Franklin has been fighting the best for the past years and Vitor has not period. This should be rather easy for Rich. Dos Santos over Cro Cop. Cro Cop suspect chin mixed with Dos Santos power expect a early night for Mirco… for some reason Mirko’s movement in the cage is nothing like how it was in the pride ring. This is the key factor in Mirko’s decline in the UFC. THE CAGE LIMITS MOVEMENT AND HIS ABILITY TO BOUNCE OFF THE ROPES and fire back with his straight punches.
by zack on Sep 3, 2009 3:38 PM EDT reply actions
Franklin might win a decision, but he won’t finish Vitor. Vitor never got KO’d even when his sister got abducted and his head wasn’t in the game for years. Even at his mentally lowest, top champions-in-their-prime like Liddell, Ortiz, and Hendo couldn’t KO/TKO him.

by Jeremyjackson on Sep 3, 2009 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions
Vitor’s not an arrogant punk like Tito or B.J. He’s a humble guy. And sometimes he lacks self-confidence. Whether Vitor wins or loses seems to have nothing to do with who’s standing across the ring and everything to do with what’s going on in his head at the time of the fight. You can see in his eyes before the opening bell whether or not he’s gonna win.
