Brother's Keeper: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira planning UFC 105 debut in Manchester

Former PRIDE light heavyweight sensation Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is getting closer to joining his twin brother Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the ranks of the UFC as Fighter's Only reports that "Minotoro" is being considered for a UFC 105 debut on November 14 in Manchester, England.
After dropping a close unanimous decision to Vladimir Matyushenko way back in 2002 in his sophomore effort for the now-defunct PRIDE FC promotion, Lil' Nog went on an absolute tear, rattling off eight straight victories including a TKO win over current Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem and a submission victory (armbar) over UFC middleweight contender Dan Henderson.
His momentum however was quickly derailed courtesy of a flash KO just 23 seconds into his bout against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at PRIDE 33 -- his last appearance for the struggling promotion. It was the first time in his career that Nogueria had been stopped, but he quickly got back to his winning ways after nearly a year on the sidelines.
In addition to pounding out Edwin "Babyface" DeWees at Affliction: "Banned" in July of 2008, Nogueira got his much sought-after revenge on Matyushenko by knocking out "The Janitor" in the second round of their rematch at Affliction: "Day of Reckoning" this past January.
Like his brother "Minotauro," the younger-by-seven-seconds Nogueira is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and talented boxer. Aside from his mixed martial arts exploits, Nog Jr. also competed as a pugilist, capturing a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games.
It will be interesting to see who the UFC puts in front of him for his November debut.
UFC 105 will be the first show held at the MEN Arena since UFC 70: "Nations Collide," which featured one of the sport’s biggest upsets when Gabriel Gonzaga defeated Mirko Filipovic via crushing head kick.
The event has yet to be officially announced by the promotion; however hometown favorite Michael "The Count" Bisping is expected to compete on the main card opposite Denis Kang. To see how the card has been shaping up thus far be sure to hit up or event archive right here .

Excellent news for fans of the Nog bros. I’m surprised this didn’t happen a lot sooner considering Big Nog signed up ages ago.
It almost makes me want to go to Manchester now!

I’m going to every thread, usually it’s very isolated, is it me or is mania dropping 100’s of comments today? If he wants only his opinions, why have a comment section?

Shut up you greasy platypus, I’ve got 500 spam comments to sift through just so that I can approve your incessant whining. I keep waiting for someone to tell me why I put up with you.

“rattling off eight straight victories including a TKO win over current Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem” this is incorrect, he lost to shogun in june 05, then went on to submit overeem in july 07

LOL @ greasy platypus. I got to say… that was one of your best joke Jesse. Though I would like to know why my Overeem joke was deleted? The logan joke, I can understand. And the Dos Santos comment of calling him a Gypsy is b/c of Cigano in Portuguese mean Gypsy. My bad if it did offend you.

Fly out to Vancouver in 06/2010 and shut him up by yourself.
Have your mom sign a permission slip, first!

wow, classic OJR. I don’t get it man, the other dy we were debating Mir, me and diceman had totally opposite views at first, slowly he pulled me onto his side. NO ONE else on here works like that. Sorry my number of posts annoys you, sorry I got more time in my day to fuck around then you do!

Dice, I left a reply to your comments about Brock Lesnar, and about the “booo” “hisss” comments that bother you so much
by O damn he got caught on Sep 3, 2009 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions
O damn-that really wasn’t a cheap shot! I even thought about noting that wasn’t directed at you. Your last response made sense, but I still feel it’s a double standard to hold Fedor responsible but no one else. I understand your frustration, I just disagree with your reasoning I guess. I responded over there, but it’s in moderation right now. And I know you guys are having fun with the “booo” “hissss” comments, I just know you really mean it and don’t agree with the reasons so it annoys me. Whatever though, there are bigger fish to fry. “Booo” and “Hisss” your heart out I won’t say anything else about it.

what is this a soap opera? why dont u guys get on topic ffs
by brendan on Sep 3, 2009 4:13 PM EDT up reply actions
Why not have a digg-like rating system where people can +1 or -1 every comment and comments dont get shown below a certain threshold? That way the comment section cleans itself of the garbage.
Otherwise don’t complain about having to sift through spam. Even though I disagree with Kevin lots of times, this is one where he is right…that’s what discussions are for, opposite opinions. Deleting comments is the worst way to go about it.
by Skope on Sep 3, 2009 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Ruan, I can’t even be bothered to travel 10 miles to see the current joke of a card that is 105 so why on earth would kevin go on a 10 hour flight to see a glorified Fight Night: UK v the world card?
Spot on Skope, everyone agrees and disagrees on certain things, that is the whole point of going on a blog to debate with people on something that you all like. If you can’t hack people having other opinions to yourself then why bother blogging?
by David W-S on Sep 3, 2009 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Get Forrest in there with him. Forrest is in the perfect scenario to matchup against either him, Thiago Silva or Luiz Cane. Those three mights make perfect sense and are all equally valid in terms of what they would do on a british card.
by NameNotRequired on Sep 4, 2009 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions
Nice NNR, I like the idea of Forrest against lil Nog.
by Alpha Male on Sep 4, 2009 1:02 AM EDT up reply actions
randy and him at 205 would be kinda cool, there are a ton of fights for him there though, tito would be cool, vlady 3 nah.

Like to see him fight Rampage or Cane first. I think he beats Rampage but not Cane. both would be great fights
by RamJ on Sep 3, 2009 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions
that will not happen…my guess is luis caine if he is available
by bigsmoke on Sep 3, 2009 1:29 PM EDT reply actions
Cane would be a perfect first fight for Little Nog, but a very dangerous one. It would be interesting to see if he could peel the Banana.
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 3, 2009 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions
My guess is they’re going to keep Little Nog at 205lbs
by DAVE A on Sep 3, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions
Luiz Cane is 205 pounds. He is also one of the only high-level LHWs I can think of who is available for November 14, with the exception of Jon Jones maybe. But they will probably give Little Nog an easier first fight.
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 3, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions
T.Silva would be ready he took very little damage against Jardine.
by Puck Head on Sep 3, 2009 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, but I’d say Thiago just earned himself a bigger fight on the year-end cards.
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 3, 2009 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Dunno how much easier Cane is than Jon Jones… Both very dangerous. Both would be a good test for Lil Nog.
by Skope on Sep 3, 2009 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah Skope, I meant that both of those guys are probably too big a threat to Little Nog in his first UFC fight, if their intention is to build him up as a contender at 205.
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 3, 2009 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions
and u got to think about how the ufc is already trying to build up bones jones. i doubt they would give lil nog, bones.
i would think lil nog could be fighting jardine, or even hammil..
by stinky~fingers on Sep 3, 2009 4:41 PM EDT up reply actions
I would like to see Bones v. Jardine
Bones v. Hammil
Hammil v. Jardine
Jardine v. Lil Nog
Bones v. Lil Nog
Enough of this build up a fighter crap, let’s just scrap.
by OJR on Sep 3, 2009 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions
not saying jardine wouldn’t be a competitive fight, but jones deserves to fight a “name” that is coming off a win.. jardine coming off back2back L’s.
i would like to see bones vs. thiago or bones vs. vera
jardine can fight hammil
and lil’nog can fight luis cane..
either way, just like oj said “let’s just scrap”!
by stinky~fingers on Sep 3, 2009 5:01 PM EDT up reply actions
john,~ not to mention lil’nog has very good boxing!~
imo- over the last couple yrs, he has improved vastly in the stand-up..
by stinky~fingers on Sep 3, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Stinky you nailed it….Bones vs. Vera. I wanna see that fight.
by jay on Sep 3, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Im so sick of all the JOnes hype. Yes, I also find him to be one of the most exciting and promising young fighters, but he hasnt accomplished a damn thing yet…let the kid grow…Damn!!!!
Silly people are calling for him to fight:
Nog
Jardine
Vera
thiago
are you guys nuts? We dont even know how he would do against a kid like Cantwell, or a c-level tough guy like Hammil and you guys are calling for him to face top 15 fighters in the UFC’s best division? Let the kid grow, he is young as hell. why rush, and potentially ruin such a promising young fighter?
by john G on Sep 3, 2009 8:30 PM EDT up reply actions
At this point Bones might as well fight Vera, Brandon isn’t that good and there’s no point babying him. The way Vera has looked recently, Bones would give him fits and would have a great shot at winning.
Hamill would also be a good opponent though, as both have great wrestling albeit with contrasting technique and Jones’ unorthodox striking would match-up well with Hamill whilst the power threat of Matt’s striking would give him a much needed test without being thrown into the wolves.
As for Thiago and Cane they should fight each other next, Cane is on a roll and deserves a step-up in competition whilst Silva is coming off the biggest win of his career. The fact that both are sick strikers and hate each other makes this an interesting fight to me.
by David W-S on Sep 3, 2009 8:39 PM EDT up reply actions
Agreed John, I called for him to fight Hammill a few weeks ago and said he shouldn’t be rushed, and got jumped on by posters saying he’s ready for top-10 guys. Where they reached this ridiculous conclusion I have no idea. This guy has years to ease himself into fights against top-notch opposition, his athletic skills look great but he is still very raw.
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 3, 2009 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions
JJ, lol, for some reason I thought u were refering to Cain Velasquez, Luis Cane did not pop into my mind at all… brain fog today! Of course I know u know MMA… I couldn’t figure out why u thought Little Nog might go heavy’s haha… I’m a dope.
by DAVE A on Sep 3, 2009 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Thank you JJ. David, I love debating you on this site, you have some good knowledge in that dome of yours, but Vera? NO WAY! Vera is finally coming into his own.
If anything, Jones should fight Kristoph!
Vera’s greco wont allow him to be thrown around like a bitch against Bones, and Vera is much too techical for Jones at this point. BOnes/Vera is a terrible idea.
I want to see Vera continue Forrest’s losing streak next!
bones needs to fight:
Hammil
Cantwell
Kristoph
Elliot Marshal
Thank god you guys arent managing his career!
by john G on Sep 3, 2009 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions
LOL, no worries dave, happens to the best of us!
by Jeremyjackson on Sep 3, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions
John, you know my thoughts on how prospects are supposed to be raised. If there is one good thing about boxing is that they let guys get plenty of ring time before throwing them against beasts. Obviously we don’t want guys with 40-0 records without a single good name on the resume but damn let the kid get 5-6 fights where he proves to himself and us that he’s learning.
by NameNotRequired on Sep 3, 2009 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions
Jones Vera and Thiago. I would like to see either of these guys fight eachother. I really don’t know who I want little nog to fight.
by RyanHobbs on Sep 3, 2009 10:39 PM EDT up reply actions
exactly nnr! Fans are nut! 1 or 2 wins and you are a contender. 1 loss and you suck..the win and they love you again. Let Jones learn wit the Jackson camp and slowly work his way up the ladder. If he takes his time, he can become really special…If he gets rushed, he could go all Sokoudjou on us!
by john G on Sep 4, 2009 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah and that’s why you praise Dos Santos to be a top contender, huh?
by Alpha Male on Sep 4, 2009 12:44 AM EDT up reply actions
id love if it was someone big at 205 to be co-main event and it would make this card worth travelling for.
by irishlilpete on Sep 3, 2009 1:40 PM EDT reply actions
Good News
Eliot Marshall, Jon Jones or Cantwell …any of these guys should be a good star with.
by ThiagO on Sep 3, 2009 1:42 PM EDT reply actions
Jon Jones or Cantwell. Both would be a competitive fight for Nog. And if they lose, it wouldn’t be a big blow to either because they are both still young.
by Mahde on Sep 3, 2009 2:23 PM EDT up reply actions
get him v jon jones and ill be there no prob. both them are awesome.
by irishlilpete on Sep 3, 2009 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah would love to see tito vs. lil nog for some reason. expect that would be an interesting matchup
by shitleTOT.com on Sep 3, 2009 2:02 PM EDT reply actions
I dont! Nog would dominate Tito anywhere the fight takes place!
He could pick Tito apart standing, and totally outclass him on the ground! But from a match making stand point, I wouldnt mind seeing it cause it would get Nog some fans after he outclasses tito
Good 1st fight for Nog would be THiago Silva. I dont think Nog needs much of a warm up!
by john G on Sep 3, 2009 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions
Ah that’s another one. I’d put my money on Thiago
by shitleTOT.com on Sep 3, 2009 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Is kinda cool they don’t have to really build him up in the states cus u can jus say its big nogs bro n everyone will b like ok (even tho there twins u should no jus by lookin at em) cus they already have done a good job of building up big nog
by johnny boots on Sep 3, 2009 2:55 PM EDT reply actions
Little Nog is perhaps one of the most well-rounded light heavyweights and I could see him doing very well in the UFC. He can beat the newcomers and hang with the best of them, bring it on. I’d like to see him fight Tito, and perhaps a rematch with Shogun down the line would be awesome, but most of all I’d like to see what he could do against Machida, though that will never happen since they train together.
by Belisarius on Sep 3, 2009 11:33 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah, his grappling gives him an edge over a lot of guys at LHW, which is a very stand-up oriented division. Machida would own him badly though.
