Krzysztof Soszynski: 'I belong in the UFC and I'm here to stay'

Props: Winnipeg Sun
Quoteworthy:
"I fought an A-level fighter, we went the distance, and he didn't dominate me. I'll come back a lot stronger from this fight the next time around. I don't know how to explain it, but I just felt flat. It wasn't my day. When my head told my body to go, it just wouldn't respond. Brandon Vera is very good, and he's very tough. He's the toughest and most skilled fighter I've ever fought. But I learned I belong in the UFC and that I'm here to stay. I know where the A level is, and I know how close I am to it. I'll get there. I know I will."
Former Ultimate Fighter 8 contestant Krzysztof Soszynski talks about his unanimous decision loss to Brandon Vera at UFC 102: "Couture vs. Nogueira" on August 29 in Portland. "The Polish Experiment" took the fight on short notice to fill in for the injured Matt Hamill but came up short on the judges scorecards after being picked apart on his feet by "The Truth." The tough Canadian vows to come back better than ever and no doubt UFC fans will see him return to the Octagon sooner rather than later.

it is like whenever vera fights i can take a p!ss break cause nothing cool happens
by Mikeybear on Aug 31, 2009 9:54 AM EDT up reply actions
Ha ha ha so true! Vera should have won easily.
And every1 just listens to Rogans bias commentating and shuts down the fact that he didn’t do very well. And krzy’ didn’t do very bad.
Vera won, but by no stretch was it dominance. Vera is king of Boring.
But man he thinks he’s good
by Daniel worby on Aug 31, 2009 10:07 AM EDT up reply actions
jardine would be waay better..
luis cane should be fighting a top fighter anyway~
by stinky~fingers on Aug 31, 2009 10:19 AM EDT up reply actions
Anyone else notice how everytime a fighter gets knocked/taken down, Joe Rogan then proceeds to say “insert said fighters name” has an extremely under-rated ground game!!! Every time!!!
I’m referring to the jardine-silva fight, but have heard him say that way to many other times!
by tylerS on Aug 31, 2009 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions
yeah, in every Forrest fight he says that. All I see is him getting dominated, sure I’d submit someone to if they let me submit them…
Vera dominated and showed class, you don’t have to finish every fight to look good… just look at Lyoto, he hadn’t finished many fights up until these last two

Rogan’s good at his job. Goldberg is driving me nuts. He sounds like a broken record and jumps in to much about the fighters skill. He destroys all rhythm commentaries should have
Sit back and wait for the fight to be over to yell “and it is alllllll over” or “and here….we……go”
Is Roberto comparing Vera to Machida??
by DF on Aug 31, 2009 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions
No comparing, but everyone seems to think that whenever someone has a little bit of an upperhand, that it should be finished easily.
by Crackbaby on Aug 31, 2009 12:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Goldberg is annoying. There has been a couple of times I’ve been watching an event with someone who has never watched MMA before and I warn them that Goldberg says the same crap all the time.
“Changing levels nicely, Joe.”
“Really working the angles nicely.”
“Really working nicely here, Joe.”
STFU Goldberg.

Brando Vera is lucky he didn’t fight Hammill!!!!!

LOL. Some people let their fanboyism or fanhating get in the way of seeing reality.
I really enjoyed the fight. Why? Because it was TECHNICAL. The liver kick inside the 1st 30 seconds shut down KS game plan of rushing him for the rest of the fight. That was awesome. But it was Brandon Vera so people have to hate right?
Sorry for the ADD kids who didn’t get their bar room brawl, but sometimes the big boys like to watch a tactical and technical battle.
And Vera’s ground game IS under rated. Again, unless you follow the grappling circuit (which I’m pretty sure most don’t) then you aren’t gonna know this, but Rogan does, and Rogan trains, so he would know.
Jeez.

I think he’s gonna be a tough dude to finish for a lot of top tier 205er’s. I don’t know what to expect of him in the future, but, he looked like he was having fun and never was in any real trouble with Vera.
by allamerican on Aug 31, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions
i think the gulf in class was apparent.vera has just lost his killer instinct.all the tools but has a mental block!
by scott on Aug 31, 2009 9:43 AM EDT reply actions
Luis Cane would murder Krzysztof. Luis Cane vs Vera is much more reasonable.
by sean on Aug 31, 2009 9:45 AM EDT reply actions
i think the ufc was waiting to see if silva won.theyve got bad blood but its easier to market with thiago coming off a win.anyone got any background info on the beef?
by scott on Aug 31, 2009 9:58 AM EDT up reply actions
aww come on guys give him a break, its not like he said anything bad, i don’t know why everyone always puts guys down when they say something about getting better..
by guyverbob on Aug 31, 2009 10:00 AM EDT reply actions
I’m not bashing Vera cause he “showed class etc”, quite the opposite actually.
Go back to his interview thread from. Last week where he says he’s faster then 95% of the ppl in the UFC, and stronger then 80%. And followed the 80% by saying but I’m equally as strong as them. Blah.
He then said he would be looking to hold the lhw and Hw title down the road, simultaneously.
Umm ya good look with that
by Daniel worby on Aug 31, 2009 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions
no im talkin about krys or watever his nick name is..
by guyverbob on Aug 31, 2009 6:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Agreed lee. I wouldn’t call Vera an A-level fighter right now. In all of his interviews he talked a lot about how aggressive he would be and how he wanted to hurt guys badly. But whenever he fights I just don’t see it. Feed him to Anderson or Cane. Then we’ll see what he has because I don’t see anything impressive about Brandon Vera at this time.
by Adam T. on Aug 31, 2009 10:07 AM EDT up reply actions
Just a few years ago he was on the fast track to title shots by destroying everyone that got put in front of him and definitely was considered A-list then. Maybe not so much now, but I think he can definitely get back to that point.
by PW on Aug 31, 2009 11:14 AM EDT up reply actions
I don’t get your logic Adam. You said you don’t think Vera is an A level fighter and yet you want him to face Anderson Silva which we all know is more than an A level fighter. At least show to us that you let your brain run first before your fingers type in the keyboard. Will you?
by Phasebook on Sep 2, 2009 5:42 AM EDT up reply actions
Barely even B, id say a good C-level fighter.
by Lester The Pimp on Aug 31, 2009 10:05 AM EDT reply actions
Good thing you don’t grade fighters and how well their overall game is, just what a video game says.
by Crackbaby on Aug 31, 2009 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions
Lester, are you sure you really think Vera is a C level fighter? I think he is more of a B+ level fighter. I mean give me some fighters who you think will beat Vera at 205.
I don’t see Forrest Griffin beating him
I don’t see Stephan Bonnar beating him
I don’t see Tito Ortiz beating him
I don’t see Chuck Lidell beating him (at this stage)
I don’t see Rich Franklin beating him
I don’t see Thiago Silva beating him
I don’t see Ryan Bader beating him
I don’t see Matt Hammil beating him
I don’t see Brian Cantwell beating him
The only guys I think that will beat him are:
Machida, Rampage, Shogun, Rashad, Jardine (actually beat him already)
If you want to say Brandon Vera is a good C level fighter, you mean he is at the level of Brian Stann, Razak Al Hassan, Krystoff Sozynski, Matyushenko, Elliot Marshall, Kyle Kingsbury? He is defintely better than these guys by more than a thousand miles.
With this, if you think he is still a C level fighter, then you must be a HATER.
by Phasebook on Sep 2, 2009 5:57 AM EDT up reply actions
meh, i’ll give krystof some grace. he looked sharp in his first few fights.
by JB on Aug 31, 2009 10:27 AM EDT reply actions
he took the fight on short notice and took vera to decision – i think he’s a B level fighter with some potential for sure
by Jerrolds on Aug 31, 2009 10:52 AM EDT reply actions
Kristoff will always be a low B or high C level fighter. This was his one big fight to show his skills. He’ll be fighting the James Irvins and Houston Alexanders of the world from here on out. I an still a fan though.
by jay on Aug 31, 2009 10:52 AM EDT reply actions
Disagree. Krzy’ is getting better and I believe him when he says he felt flat. He normally would have took that version of Vera down more.
That being said Vera earned the win. But by no means a commanding or great win.
Krzy’ will rebound with a win against a b level fighter and depending on how dominant there is nothing that says he can’t slowly move up. IMO.
by Daniel worby on Aug 31, 2009 11:40 AM EDT up reply actions
B level, C level… What does that even mean? What is the standard, who are you judging them against? Unless you specify that, all that talk is meaningless.
By UFC standards, Soszynski is definitely not a top level fighter, but he’s not a can, by any stretch of imagination – I think he’s right to say he belongs there. He’s also better at 205 than his record suggests – he lost a bunch of fights fighting in the IFL at heavyweight when he had very little fighting experience, but has clearly improved.
People also need to cut him some slack – fatigue was clearly a problem for him that night, but this was his 3rd fight in four months, and he took it on relatively short notice.

krzystof’s striking looked terrible along with his cardio. i don’t ever see him going far in the ufc. i’m not surprised the ufc only paid him $8,000 for his fight against vera.
by theboss44 on Aug 31, 2009 12:10 PM EDT reply actions
THEY SHUDNT LET VERA FIGHT ON THE MAIN CARD ANYMORE! HE SUX NOWADAYS! EVEN WEN HE WAS ON THE UNDERCARD HE SUCKED
by d*locc on Aug 31, 2009 12:48 PM EDT reply actions
Vera can’t finish. He has no power behind his attacks. Put him up against fighters with likes of Rampage, Griffin, Rashad, Thiago Silva, he’s toast.
by EpicWarrior on Aug 31, 2009 5:25 PM EDT reply actions
Vera would murder any of the above fighters. Cept maybe t. Silva but def page, forrest, rashad.
by frosnt on Aug 31, 2009 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions
Not a big fan of either of them and this was the weak point of an otherwise outstanding card. Vera fought smart but lacked a killer instinct and Kris was beaten mentally from that early liver kick, after that his aggression was nonexistent and he was outclassed by a superior striker. Saying that he proved that he was tough and took Vera to a decision, whilst once again Brandon’s self-hype made him look deluded once again. He is so arrogant but unlike in the past he doesn’t have that killer instince and since that sabbatical post-Mir he hasn’t done anything of note. He has a long way to go if he ever seriously expects to be a champion at LHW or HW.
