Brett Rogers: Fedor 'hasn't felt the power that he's about to get'

Props: SportsRadioInterviews.com
Quoteworthy:
"Life is kinda moving along pretty fast now, especially after this (Andre) Arlovski fight. I feel this is well deserved, I mean, everything that happened, happened for a reason, and I was the one to complete it. I feel that I’m a different fighter for Fedor; he hasn’t felt the power that he’s about to get. He’s talented, but the same things he’s skilled in, I’m skilled in. It’s just we're gonna see who’s more hungry."
Undefeated heavyweight wrecking machine Brett Rogers anticipates giving former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko more power than he can handle when the two clash this Fall for the Strikeforce promotion on Showtime. "Da Grim" has taken a serious step up in competition after knocking out Andrei Arlovski at the "Lawler vs. Shields" event back in June. Is he ready to dethrone "The Last Emperor?" Or will Emelianenko drop the iron curtain on the aspiring heavyweight? Time will tell...

He has a puncher’s chance.
Literally.
That’s it.

here we go, i’ll go out for 30 min and come home to 100+ comments.
he’s got a chance at KO in first min, after that Fedor by whatever he wants!

He has less losses than Fedor.
Puncher’s chance!

Fedor hasn’t been rocked in years! We’ll see if he can take power shots still.
hopefully.

Grimm is +475 on BoDog. Any takers?
-675 for Fedor against someone with hands as heavy as Grimm makes that a tough bet to make. Bet $135 just to win $20. But then again, up until now, every Fedor fight has been free money.
If Fedor comes out like he did in the first couple mins of the Arlovski fight against Grimm, he could be in trouble.
In watching Grimm’s EliteXC fights, I dont recall him ever getting hit hard.

smart money is a small (100 dollar) bet on Grim… just in case!

I think Fedor was baiting AA in for that over hand right much like Henderson was doing to Bisping. I was going to go back and watch the AA fight to see how many times he tried throwing it I think at least 3 or four times before he connected? Fedor hasn’t fought in some time and if Rogers get’s lucky it’s going to be in the stand up and by keeping it a stand up Rogers should not even try to GnP Fedor if Fedor falls to the ground from a strike unless he’s 100% sure he connected with a stunner I can see Fedor trying to bait Rogers to the ground anyway possible.

I was saying this the other day, I wish nog/couture was a 5 rounder, but I’m a purist and old school also…

If you were a real “purist” and “old school” you would want the throw the two of them in and just start a timer. No rounds is truly old school UFC

I really want Fedor to lose this fight, but I know it’s not going to happen. Fedor’s long layoffs in between fights makes me forget how good he is and I always think his opponent has a chance. I’m not going to be fooled this time. Fedor will make Rogers look foolish. I don’t have a clue how this fight will end, but Fedor will have his hand raised at the end.
by HamishCampbell on Aug 31, 2009 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions
My thoughts aswell VM. If Fedor gets hit with the shots he did in the AA fight he will be in trouble. Rogers has more power than him.

the 3 or 5 round debate shouldn’t even be discussed, 5 rounds is the only way to go.. I mean, if your a veteran and a world class competitor at the top then you should go 5 rounds, its perfect preparation for a title fight..
It’s like the thing that they go 5 sets in all Grand Slams in tennis.
by RoBerto on Aug 31, 2009 6:55 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree Roberto, but also get the title round argument.
maybe all main events are 5??!!

Men play 5 sets in tennis in all tournaments, not just the Slams. Women play 3.

Oh man Brett, you just jinxed yourself bad.
I’m in no way a fan of Fedor, but come on. “He hasn’t felt the power he’s about to get”…maybe you should go back to busting tires before you make yourself look like a big fool.

i think ur wrong PW. Ive been betting a lot of tennis this summer, thats the only reason I know! or is the slams 7 for men?
by kevin on Aug 31, 2009 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions
I know for a fact that PW is wrong, Im a big tennis fan…
US Open (Im gonna be watching these 2 weeks)
Australian Open
Wimbledon
Roland Garros (French Open)
are the 4 slams the men play 5 sets in (all other tourneys are best of 3) the ladies plays those 4 slams and they play best out of 3 always.
by RoBerto on Aug 31, 2009 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions
thats what i thought. tenis has been easy money all summer, i don’t watch it though, except sometime the ladies
by kevin on Aug 31, 2009 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah, tennis is a good sport to bet on cause their ranking system is so good, and they play long enough for the better player to come out on top most of the time.. Maria Sharapova is my gf

Im buying that card… And before people start saying its Showtime, here in Canada we do not have Showtime, so it is a PPV instead.
I think Rogers is a serious guy and this fight is a win-win for him. He has not been really tested yet (Arlofski didn’t even touch him). If he loses, he has only lost to the best heavyweight in the world, no biggie. If he wins, and he has a small Punchers chance, he becomes the guy to beat and his future will be very bright.
Regardless of outcome it will be fun to watch.
by Skope on Aug 31, 2009 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Skope
I couldn’t agree more, it’s definetly a win/win for Rogers.
If Rogers can take a punch and stuff takedowns he has a chance. It’s obvious he has power, no one can deny that.
This fight is interesting. If Fedor dominates then this fight works for him. If Fedor looks uninterested and squeaks out a win in a less than impresive display (or loses obviusly) this is a bad fight for Fedor.
I’m anxious to see if Fedor comes in well prepared and fights a motivated fight.
by jtc2112 on Aug 31, 2009 2:43 PM EDT up reply actions
Rogers has little to lose here. The argument can always be made that “anything can happen”, but there’s absolutely nothing that Rogers is better at than Fedor, so I don’t see Rogers getting out of the first round.
I think if Fedor fought Rogers the same way he sparred with Mousasi, he’d beat him in the first.
by Stryker on Aug 31, 2009 2:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I didn’t watch the sparring, but ur prob right
by kevin on Aug 31, 2009 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions
If Rogers would beat Fedor that would not make him the man to beat, it would simply mean that Fedor was not the man we thought he was. It would elevate his status, but man to beat definitely not.
That said he stands very little chance of beating Fedor. He needs to swing for the fences early as if Fedor gets any offense going it is over.
Fedor by flying armbar sounds about right for this fight. lol
by ASR on Aug 31, 2009 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions
“…it would simply mean that Fedor was not the man we thought he was.”
By that logic, anyone who loses is a “different man” after a fight than before? The only thing that changed is 15 minutes of experience.
One fight doesn’t change what “kind of man” someone is. It’s just one fight and anyone can beat anyone on a given day.
Your brain is so diluted by the perceived grandeur of Fedor, that you aren’t thinking in realistic human terms anymore.
I apologize for bashing ASR, but you just make no sense.
by Skope on Aug 31, 2009 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree skope, 30 wins in a row and then 1 loss does nothing to diminish a record, or a man!
by kevin on Aug 31, 2009 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions
sorry Skope, acutally i think you’re in the wrong here.
losing does have the potential to make somebody “not the man we thought he was”.
suppose fedor lost to a can (not saying rogers is one) by utter destruction, or for example, lets say brett rogers SUBMITS fedor (unlikely and near impossible i know), but doesnt that 1 fight and its result completely change how we view fedor?
Skope, you’re logic is the one that flawed. your brain is so diluted with defending fedor against critics that you arent thinking in realistic human terms anymore.
i apologize for bashing Skope, but you make no sense.
by eric on Aug 31, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Eric, let me first complement you on your attempted wit. You actually made me smirk, which doesn’t happen often here while reading Maniacs’ comments.
Unfortunately the smirk was caused by your inability to make a sensible point, since all you did was try to turn my thoughts around without actually saying anything for yourself, for lack of ideas i assume.
If Rogers submits Fedor, which as you admitted is near impossible, making the mention of it kind of desperate to prove some point you thought you had in your response, that does not change everyone’s perception of Fedor. People who know how great of a fighter he is, will still know that, and people who are bashing him will bash him a bit harder.
I do not think Fedor is impossible to beat, and I do not know if you have some kind of complex thinking any fighter can not be beaten. Anyone can be beaten on a bad day and and especially fighting a guy 50 pounds heavier than you come fight night, so if your opinion will be changed by one loss, then you are the one whose brain is diluted by some kind of mythical opinion of Fedor.
by Skope on Aug 31, 2009 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions
eric you make no sense, alot of great fighter lose to lesser fighters, sometimes fighting a can makes you not train as hard and than you get caught, or you don’t respect the other fighter and he subs you. it happens all the time.
by roy on Aug 31, 2009 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Fair or not, I think a loss would diminish Fedor’s standing. A loss shouldn’t dismiss Fedor from the P4P conversation, but the world of professional sports is an unforgiving environment. Just look at a couple other examples. Most recently, big Nog. He’s only lost 5 times in 35+ fights, yet he loses to Mir and everyone is writing his death certificate. Anderson Silva doesn’t even lose and people want to write him off as overrated. One more example of this would be Machida. Everyone on these boards were complaining about Machida’s boring style. Now, after two impressive knockouts, he’s a world beater.
Sports fans are fickle. As a professional athlete, you have to get used to the “what have you done lately” mentality of fans. It’s not fair, but it’s the curse of working in an industry that is based on entertaining a mob of fools.
by HamishCampbell on Aug 31, 2009 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions
Skope,
Funny how every real fan on this site understood me except you. I am actaully an advocate of Fedor being overrated and hyped up more due to a record built on LHWs (that stands for Light Heavyweights) and cans (this is what we refer to as fighters with low skill level).
I was presenting my statement as an acknowledgement of how most people that love this sport believe Fedor to be an extremely talented fighter eventhough he does not fight high calibre opponents. If her were to lose to Grim he would not be as highly skilled as we thought.
I think you are too consumed with trying to talk down to people on this site to make yourself feel better. As a little FYI I do not think that the people you are trying to deminish on this site are the actual people that shoved you into your locker, gave you wedgies and swirlies, stole your lunch money, or taped you naked to the goal posts.
I have no problem with someone having an opposing view to mine. It is the internet and everyone can have an opinion, the problem with you is that you dont really have one you just want to argue with everyone without any insight of your own.
Grow up……… but first….GIVE ME YOUR LUNCH MONEY GEEK!

ASR, I am guessing your age is about 17 from your comments. Meaning I was watching MMA when your mommy was still changing your diapers. Which also leads me to believe that you are currently still being stuffed into your own high school locker, since that came to mind so rapidly for you.
I am guessing you got really frustrated writing this message trying to desperately to not only cover up your lack of knowledge ( thus probably getting the definitions for can and LHW from Google ) but also your insecurities, since every person you would try to argue with in real life has hurt you physically.
In fact the last line of your comment must be so prevalent your mind that you had to capitalize it, since you probably dont get too shout much in real life, unless its at your parents since they are the only ones who do not beat you when you do that, even though that would have probably done you some good to build some self-confidence.
Enough Psychoanalysis though, I have some friends (A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts. ) coming over to hang out. Take care kid.

Im going way out on a limb here and saying that Rogers wins. I think his size and jab will be enough to keep Fedor off him and he will catch him with a good punch. His size and power will be the key and the cage instead of a ring. Its a different world in a ring and fedor will not be able to use the ropes like he did always before. Fedor likes to stand and trade with people before going for submisions and takedowns, I think this will be his undoing. Also, after the AA fight I saw so many problems with his stand-up that people have never exploited like AA was. Only difference is that AA has a glass jaw, Brett doesnt. If they trade, I see Rogers coming out on top. You heard it hear, im putting 100 on Rogers, now flame me!!!!!!! We will talk after the fight.

I wouldn’t even go that far Carwin at least has wrestled so there is a better chance he might actually have a ground game or at least be able to defend himself on the ground along with having possibly the best trainer in MMA Jackson and best MMA wrestler GSP to learn from. Rogers is no Zulu or Gary Goodridge and has WAY more power in that right hand than any opponent Fedor has faced in years. If Brett catches Fedor ala Fujita, it’s going to be a short night for the Last Emperor and a BIG night for the gambling world. Coupled with the fact that this is Fedor’s first fight in a cage and I might just throw a few bucks down on “The Grim”.
But unlike Fujita, I guarantee Brett Rogers will finish Fedor if he rocks him and has him doing that fucking fish dance all over the octagon.
Ladies & Gentlemen, Buster Douglas’s illegitimate son has entered the building.

by Horny for Gina on Aug 31, 2009 3:33 PM EDT reply actions
I like his confidence! I’m sure he is just referring to striking! On the ground Fedor is light years away, but Brett does have a punchers chance, and if Fedor stands too long the chance that Brett connects does go up.

What do you want him to say? “I’m going to get killed. I wish I didn’t accept the fight. Don’t buy the PPV because Fedor is going to make me his bitch. I have nightmares about Fedor.”
Same post different date. A fighter has confidence over another one and everyone bashes him. Broken record.
PS – I could careless about Fedor and how good he is because we’ll never really know.

ive heard he has a good ground game, but personally never seen it!
by kevin on Aug 31, 2009 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions
how many ppl has fedor faced that had good “submission defense” and has made em tap…the only way that rogers cud do n e good on the ground is to use his size over him and force fedor to stay on his back and keep from throwing wild punches so he wont get put in an arm bar
by Ryne on Aug 31, 2009 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions
No one has rocked Rogers and a case can be made for that but he doesn’t look like he as a weak chin either. Fedor was rocked a bit by Andrei and everyone knows Rogers has more power than him. I predict a take down from Fedor and submits Rogers. Rogers has no ground game.
by EpicWarrior on Aug 31, 2009 5:28 PM EDT reply actions

by 2TimePennConqueror on Aug 31, 2009 5:54 PM EDT reply actions
lol, google them and watch some fights bro. Fedor is widely considered the best ever!
by kevin on Aug 31, 2009 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions
The real question is he the best now? Can he handle the size & skill of the new HW coming in MMA the big guy’s he has fought had size but they had little skill Rogers will be the most skilled striker Fedor has fought that is over 245 Sylvia would be the second best and Sylvia would be the best on the ground over 245. There’s little doubt that Fedor is the best pound for pound fighter at HW but being 235 four or five years ago was around average and the big guy’s were slow and usually had bad endurance now day’s that’s all changing.
by Puck Head on Aug 31, 2009 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions
no, semmy i am sure was easily over 265 and is a far better striker than rogers or tim.

I’ll say it again, we won’t see Fedor at the #1 position the pound for pound ranking ever again. He’s great don’t get me wrong but you need to prove it once in a while and how can he? It’s gonna be Silva for the next two years then GSP for the following 10. Fedor screwed up big in not signing with the UFC.”
So color me skeptical…

hahaha i wud put alot of money that if fedor keeps it standin then fedor wud still win and its a no challenge if fedor gets him on the ground…all that power wudnt mean shit if he gets his arm broken
by Ryne on Aug 31, 2009 6:01 PM EDT reply actions
Fedor Emelianenko is a Russian Heavyweight whos record i believe is 30-1-1 or 31-1-1. Many consider him top 3 Pound for Pound in the world of MMA and otherwise just consider him the consensus #1 Heavyweight in the world. Brett Rogers is 10-0 i believe and he hits like a mack truck. I think hes rated #10 heavyweight in the world. Im sure other people will expand on what ive already told you.
by JakeAnd on Aug 31, 2009 6:02 PM EDT reply actions
Ok, hypothetical question….say Rogers does beat Fedor, what does that do to the rankings? Personally I think Fedor still stays at #1 with the only change being Rogers jumping to #2. You can’t really put Brock up at #1 with a 4-1 record. The only thing is how can you have a #1 that has a loss to the #2 guy? Would it be crazy to say Rogers is #1 in the world with a win over Arlovski and Fedor?
by tiger_style on Aug 31, 2009 6:13 PM EDT reply actions
hmmm NO you don’t lose to the #8 ranked fighter and stay at #1 as most of the MMA world believes even with only a hand few of fights under his belt that Brock is the #2 ranked HW in the world with his abilities, size and athleticism. If Rogers beats Fedor it would put rogers in the top five and Fedor close by a rematch would most likely happen and a Fedor win could put him back depending how dominate Brock looked against the 6th ranked HW Carwin.
by Puck Head on Aug 31, 2009 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions
Fedor cannot reign forever.
Somebody will stop him.
However, I doubt that Rogers will be the first.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Equally skilled. It won’t come down to whose hungrier. It will come down to who makes the most mistakes and conditioning. Fedor doesn’t little to no mistakes and is the most physically conditioned. The dude runs 10 miles a day, trains 7 days a week, and is the most complete MMA fighter.
Lets say Rogers does beat him from a lucky punch, Fedor would DEMOLISH him in a rematch!!!!!!
by Chris on Aug 31, 2009 7:28 PM EDT reply actions
Brett CAN (and probably will) knock out Fedor. Give the dude a little credit. It’s good to see him hype this up; it can only bring more fans to the sport.Perhaps the more important aspect is that Brett has been the more active fighter. I don’t care about Fedor’s ‘sparring session’, I am talking about actual fights in the past couple of years.
Also, I see a bet on Brett as very logical, esp. at +675.
by TeamPunishmentFanatic on Aug 31, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions
Rather, +475, not +675. Good numbers either way.

I’m curious on why you guys bash on Fedor. He’s like the nicest fighter you’ll ever meet. By the was he’s gonna rip brett rogers apart, I know it and all of you know it.

Honestly Frank Mir said it right in the interview that was posted today. Fedor thinks he has nothing to prove, so he might as well pack up and go home. I am not saying that Fedor is good, nor am I a hater; But lets be honest here look at his last few fights
Andrei Arlovski (15-7)- He is a hit and miss fighter, and he gets alot of easy fights, its not very often he is the underdog.
Tim Sylvia (24-6)- The guy was never very impressive, he lacks alot of skill, not well rounded at all and has been washed up for a few years, the guy relys on his size, but recently forgot how to use that effectively.
ChoiHong-Man Choi (4-2) – He really has no business fighting MMA, honestly another guy that relys on his size.
Matt Lindland (21-6) – Had no business fighting fedor the guy is a natural 185lbs, talk about a give me fight. Somebody is trying to pad Fedors record.
Mark Hunt (5-7) – Garbage bottom line, no business fighting MMA. He not even an outstanding kickboxer or boxer. Theres another give me fight to pad Fedors record.
Mark Coleman (14-9) Another hit and miss fighter, dont get me wrong he has had his good days but honestly he is to small to fight heavy weight, hence why he is fighting at 205 in the UFC.
Zuluzinho (17-6) Another give me fight to pad fedors record, this guys record isnt horrible but he hasnt beat anyone worth talking about. I mean honeslty Fedor beat him in 26 seconds.
Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović (25-6-2-1) Fedor couldnt even finish this guy. He got destroyed by Gonzaga, where does that leave Fedor. Personally I think Cro Cop is overrated.
Tsuyoshi “TK” Kohsaka (26-18-2-1) 26 and 18 speaks for its self. He was 24 and 15 when he fought Fedor who was 21 and 1, which really says he had not business fighting him.
Another give me fight to pad fedors record.
Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1-1) Besides Crocop the Last guy that was a resonable fight for Fedor which all 3 times they fought fedor couldnt finish him.
Honestly Fedor needs to prove him slef by consistantly fight Top level fighters, When you are the best you need to fight the best to stay at the top, if you are not fighting the best you need to fight guys who have good records that are in there prime and not anywhere near being washed up. Fedor needs to move to the UFC after he fights strikeforces big 3 or 4. Hes not proving anything fighting in strikeforce other then the fact that he likes fight where the odds of winning are in his favor.
Honestly Fedor is not proving anything fighting Brett, Brett is the one who has the chance to prove something.
If or when Fedor wins as most people are assuming I will say its a step in the right direction, but dont count Brett out. The Guy has skills and the size to bring problems to Fedor. Honestly if the fight stays standing Brett has the advantage, and if Brett is confident enough to use skill he has in certain areas of martial arts he has been training then we could see something new in the striking world of MMA.
by TysonLeeHarris on Sep 1, 2009 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Fedor will destroy Brett. And for all fedor haters- yeah sucks fedor isnt in the UFC- live with it. I hate it as much as y’all and I’m a big Fedor fan. But bashing him wont make him go to the UFC. If you dont like him dont watch him. Ayt?
Peace!
by big_evil on Sep 1, 2009 3:21 AM EDT reply actions
like Mirko, Mark Hunt, Schilt, Fujita, Choi & even Goodridge dont hit harder and dont have more power then this guy, so yeah right Rogers
by eatyourasshole on Sep 1, 2009 6:38 AM EDT reply actions
LOL, Fedor already won!! And this piece of brainless crap Rogers don’t even know how to play fair. Where is the fucking handshake and appreciation, most of all recognition that Fedor is not one of the best, but THE BEST fighter ever. Such a discipline, politeness and work ethic can’t be found every day. Besides, he is also modest and he shouldn’t be.
This Rogers dude can not complete one simple sentence. Go back to elementary school first, then let your mama slap you few times and then start working hard instead of going around and brag about how you’re “going” to kick Fedor’s ass. You’ve got whooped bitch!
