Poor Jardine. When he gets knocked out he gets yelled at too. People must not like him. Houston did the same thing hahaha. Good thing Thiago wasn’t in the WWE or else everyone would be calling for a hanging.

Cuz Ketih talks trash after getting KO’d. He talked smack about Houston KOing him, then said he would win 9 out of 10 times fighting Wandy after he KO’d him, and now we expect Keith to say, if the ref hadn’t stopped it I would have won with an up kick.

by dandeman on Aug 31, 2009 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s a good one. I think some other possibilities could be Rogerio Nogueira or Vladimir Matyushenko when they start fighting with the UFC.

by Jase on Aug 30, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Matyushenko already has a fight at 103. Nogueira could be a good fight, but im not sure UFC would risk putting him in against Silva for his first UFC fight.

by spitforce on Aug 30, 2009 12:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Machida already KO’s this clown so he won’t get a title shot anytime soon. Jardine is not that good. He squeeked out a victory over a done Chuck and beat Griffen the most over rater fighter ever. He lost by KO to Anderson, Thiago and Houston Alexander. Lost to Rampage lost lost lost. I wanna see Franklin get a shot but Machida Ko’s him already too. After Shogun and Page no one is left for Machida

by hatteras on Aug 30, 2009 12:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Another loss for Jardine and he should get cut. I believe he has one win, a split decision win over Vera, in his last four fights.

by Adam T. on Aug 30, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He lost to Wandi not Andy but I get your point, Jardine has talent but can’t take a punch and once again his chin cost him big-time. Although I called a Jardine win, I also said that Thiago had a good chance of KO’g him early in the fight and that’s exactly what happened. Big win for Thiago although the Machida fight showed holes in his game and Jardine’s glass jaw meant that we didn’t get the chance to see how much he has improved but this could be the win that springboards him to greatness.

Now that Thiago has a big and devastating win to his name I want to see him fight more top level competition. Luis Cane would be a good fight as both are dangerous strikers who are on the verge of becoming cotenders and their rivalry makes this an even more interesting fight. The winner should then face a top 5 guy, so we can see whether they can compete and beat the best.

As for Jardine, he won’t ever become anything more than a gatekeeper. Whilst on his best day he can beat great fighters like Chuck, Forrest and Vera or be competetive with the likes of Rampage on his worst he gets brutally KO’d, like what happened against Houston, Wandi and now Thiago. Because of his weak chin, he can’t take strong punches without getting dropped or KO’d and this is something that can’t be fixed so he’s only going to be useful as a test to prospects or legends to see whether they (still) can compete with the elite of the division, as he can’t get any sort of winning run together so will never become a title contender despite his impressive wins.

by David W-S on Aug 30, 2009 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

David u have got to be kidding me? Jardine has talent!? absolutely not, all he has comes from training!
He can be competitive with good guys when they have their worst day, not that Jardine has a good day cause he’s always the same and his best day isn’t good either..

Listen to me and realize this, Jardine’s problem is not his chin, it’s that he has no technique/skill, his defense is horrible…

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just think you were being too nice to him..

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 3:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jardine does not have a weak chin he has no defense. Anyone who gets hit like that will go down. His unique style is what some would call stupid. The reason Machida, Anderson and Fedor are so good is because they don’t get hit. Jardine stands flat footed and trades, not smart, it only works if the other guy does the same thing and even then only half the time. His wrestling sucks his jiu jitsu sucks and he really is not a good striker either. Half of striking is striking the other half is evading damage.

by hatteras on Aug 30, 2009 6:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

jardine was more than competitive against rampage, he was 10 seconds from winning that fight, It just goes to show how good thiago is, lots of people were saying how overrated he was, but its hard to judge , since machida makes evryone look bad. I really feel sorry for anyone that has to face machida, after he beats shogun, might want to let him fight brock which he wants to do to prover he is the best PnP fighter. I would like to see him fight rampage, but i see rashad completetely schooling page. I wouldnt judge rashad by his loss to machida.

Zim, if you are gonna talk crap over the internet try to have an argument rather than just call names. When have you seen Jardine submit a guy or get a big slam or anything other than leg kick and sloppy punches. He is the same every time and not at all well rounded.

thiago vs vera….that should book that one immediately

by HellaHectic on Aug 30, 2009 12:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

No thanks. They should give Thiago some more promising fighters. I think he deserves a bigger fight than Vera, unless they just want to give him a win.

by Jase on Aug 30, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ok guy lets hear your ideas…

assuming he fights again 3 or 4 months from now which is pretty standard…

it WONT BE:

1. machida
2. rampage
3. rashad
4. shogun
5. rich
6. anderson

ok, well these are pretty much the guys who are higher profile fighters in the division…and they are all booked…so lets hear your suggestions about who is left that is SUCH a big name?

forrest? hes coming off back to back knockout losses..ufc would probably be too terrified to risk putting him against thiago and chancing 3 straight ko losses…so whos left that is such a BIGGER AND HIGHER PROFILE named fighter than vera that isnt already tied up over the next 4 months?

luis cane? with his impressive ufc resume victories over totally elite fighters like lambert, sokoudjou, and cantwell….

vera is the logical opponent next up for him

by HellaHectic on Aug 30, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Luis Cane>Brandon Vera. And Cantwell is damn good if you knew anything beyond the UFC you might realize that. If you’re gonna nitpick at people’s records maybe take a look at Vera’s? Hardly impressive lately. Thiago would be foolish to accept a fight with Vera at this juncture.

by frosnt1 on Aug 30, 2009 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They haven’t set a timetable for Rogerio Nogueira yet.

And that Luiz Cane suggestion is one I’ve already seen batted around, and it sounds like a good one to me. Cane has shown he can be competitive, and is a dangerous striker. Or they could take a chance on Jon Jones and see how he performs. Wouldn’t be that much different then when they had Velasquez take on Kongo, or Carwin vs. Gonzaga. And considering Franklin’s next fight is in four weeks, win or lose against Belfort, he actually would be available for a fight against Thiago. Ditto for Vladimir Matyushenko if he wins his fight against Igor Pokrajac at UFC 103.

I would consider any of these matches a better step up in competition than having Thiago fight Vera. He has some limited name value left over from his stint in the HW division, but that’s about it. Performance-wise, he looked terrible against Reese Andy, barely got the losing end of a split decision against Jardine, and so far has only looked good against Mike Patt. His victory over Soszynski was nothing to brag about.

A win over Vera does nothing for a guy who was arguably a fight or two away from a title shot. If worse comes to worse and there’s simply no one else available, the UFC will do what they have to do, but a Vera/T.Silva match-up still isn’t a particularly desirable one. If Silva beats Vera, that further damages the perception of Vera as a contender and headliner, and there goes the UFC’s attempt to cash in on a Filipino fighter for their eventual international expansion into the Philippines. And judging from Vera’s recent performances, it’s not like its likely to be a particularly entertaining match-up either.

Can’t you see the fireworks written all over a potential Vera-Thiago Silva fight?!?

by The Negation on Aug 30, 2009 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thiago is mean, and dangerous. Some greats fights for him, although not many guys in the top 5 who dont have scheduled matches already. For end of year, maybe Forrest Griffin (which I think would be bad news for Griffin). Or Luis Cane.

Although its not possible, or likely, personally id love to see Silva vs Rampage, though any Rampage fight is fun.

by UK_Chris on Aug 30, 2009 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

everyone who has ever fought maia knows that, no one has ever been able to do it before…and nate is also undefeated since his loss to anderson minus the bullshit against letes….whatever hes been working on in camp has gotten him up for a title shot or at least fighting hendo for the next shot…

u act as if nate is one dimensional..as if getting nate to the ground would have just been a given win for maia…like nate would have just automatically fallen into a triangle…its like you’re comparing nate’s ground skills to kongo

by HellaHectic on Aug 30, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No-one said Nate is 1D. Or any of the things you just said.

I just think its a pretty silly thing to say that Greg Jacksons “gameplan” worked well for Nate when the fight only lasted about 20 seconds or whatever it was. He knocked him out with his first punch. No game plan needed. At that point in the fight, the gameplan and greg had nothing to do with anything. Nate KTFO Maia, which is a gameplan that goes for all fighters, and should go without saying.

by UK_Chris on Aug 30, 2009 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

To be fair, I suppose you cant plan against getting KTFO.

But your right, Thiago looked calm and in control pretty much the whole fight. I remember Goldberg/Rogan going on about Jardine “stalking” Silva, which I didnt understand. It was Thiago the whole fight moving forward, whilst still being patient and picking shots. Jardine got owned. So it is probably fair to say there was some gameplan errors.

by UK_Chris on Aug 30, 2009 2:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol LLC he’s only masterfull when his fighters win. Gsp makes up game plans of his own, and I guarantee if jackson told him to do something he knew wasn’t going to work he wouldn’t do it. Jackson gets WAY to much credit for his fighters success.

by nathan on Aug 30, 2009 2:13 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

so why is it you think the fighters go to his camp? you dont think rashad’s improvements have anything to do with jackson? and nate’s adjustment from pancreas into mma has nothing to do with jackson?

Marquardt is the clear #2 MW in the world. Complete game, as big as you can get for a MW, full arsenal of strikes, great jits, solid wrestling, excellent conditioning, great training partners, in his prime age-wise. It’s all there.

You gotta love Hendo, but Nate has a much better chance of pushing Anderson. I’m fine with the two fighting each other to determine who gets it, but if they pick one, it should be Nate.

Hendo chasing AS around trying to land that big right hand or get a takedown before he gets lit up on his feet is not all that compelling. And Hendo doesn’t have the ground game to put AS away if he gets him down. His only way to win is to land a KO shot and AS is way too elusive to fall for the leaping tomahawk that took Bisping’s head off.

Nate, on the other hand, has a full range of tools, wherever the fight goes. Not saying he will win, but if AS beats him he has officially retired the MW division and should henceforth pursue marquee match-ups in other weight classes.

by revjames13 on Aug 30, 2009 4:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know rev, I would argue the assertion that Marquardt is the clear #2 MW and has a much better chance of pushing Anderson. Not that Hendo did anything special in their first fight, BUT he was the only fighter to take a round against Silva. I’d love to see a Nate-Hendo fight, because I think they’re both great fighters. As far as ways to win I think they both have about the same chances. Neither guy is going to submit Silva. I think both fighters only chances are KOing him, or grinding out a decision. Given Hendo’s ability to dictate a fight using his wrestling I’d give him the edge in the chance to decision Silva. And I think Nate has a more diverse stand-up game, but I don’t necessarily think that’s going to give him the advantage on the feet. Obviously neither fighter has the advantage over Silva on the feet. They both have KO power, but in all honesty I’d probably say they have about an equal chance of landing the KO punch. I might actually give Hendo the slight advantage over Nate because of his iron chin allowing him to take more damage while getting something off. Personally I’d like to see them fight it out because I think they’re both deserving, and I that would give us two great fights to look forward to(Nate-Hendo, then winner-Silva). Just my take.
