Todd Duffee scores fastest KO in UFC history; calls out 'top guys'

"I expected him to come out aggressive, I waited for him to make the first move and I countered with the jab. I kind of felt him on the ground, I saw him go 'Oh Shit!' so I was like 'Man, maybe he's hurt' so I went after him. I want to fight the best of the best. I want to fight the top guys when they're at the top. I want to find out where I stand in the history books. I don't want the 'gimme fights' because I train too hard and work too hard to do that."

Up-and-coming heavyweight sensation Todd Duffee reacts to his seven-second knockout over Tim Hague at UFC 102 on August 29 in Portland. The 23-year-old American Top Team product pushed his perfect record to 5-0 while setting a new UFC record for fastest knockout -- however refuses to rest on his laurels, instead calling for fights against "top guys." Does the 6'3" 260-pound slugger have the goods to make a run at the division title? Or is he in for a rude awakening against the promotion's elite players? Opinions please...

Can you guys imagine, this kid is only gonna get bigger. It sucks that his last fight was cancelled because the betting lines were ridiculous for people who knew what was up.

well, anyone who knows what’s up knows that you can’t naturally get that big that young..

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh bullsh*t, I work with a guy who is 22 years old, 6’3", weighs 255, is lean and cut, and he hasn’t lifted a weight in his life or been near a gym except in high-school. His physique comes partly from genetics, and partly from a life-time spent working his Dad’s farm. I swear some of you think that because you’re a pencil-neck weakling, everyone bigger than you must be juicing. Go back to watching WWE.

by Toelock on Aug 30, 2009 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Toelock, why don’t you ask him how it feels for him when he takes the needle in his a$$…
Todd isn’t big, he’s huge!

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 5:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Uh huh, and I suppose you think Kongo and Lesnar are both juicing too? Give your head a shake.

by Toelock on Aug 30, 2009 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions

RoBerto, YES you CAN get that big that young. Jesus don’t go throwing around sissified steroid accusations w/o proof.

by chefdaddy on Aug 30, 2009 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL! Lesnar? of course, I know that for a fact… do you need someone telling you everything before you realize it..

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 5:55 PM EDT up reply actions

dang right! We want facts. DO you also like bein’ accused of juicing even if you truly ain’t? Doesn’t feel good right?

LOL @ you knowing for a fact that Lesnar juices. Okay, I’ll bite: Present your facts.

My fact is that I have eyes…

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Lesnar used to juice but I doubt he does anymore. I’d say give Duffee the benefit of the doubt. You can DEFINITELY get that big that young naturally. Good genes, a good strength coach, and some good ole whey protein will do the trick.

by Diceman on Aug 30, 2009 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Not all huge guys juice. You can’t tell if this guy is on the juice just by looking at him!

There are a lot of great supplements and training regimens now that didn’t exist 50 years ago.

Ok. but to act like it’s normal to see guys that young, that big, with so low bodyfat is crazy…

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 7:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Of course it isn’t normal…..if it was, there would be lots more MMA fighters, NFL prospects, etc. and the fact of the matter is that 99.9999% of guys DON’t take that good care of themselves.

by chefdaddy on Aug 30, 2009 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions

i strongly agree. what a huge mistake to just flat out say the usin roids. I had guys in high school that were big beasts like that. 2 of em. if u eat, breathe, and live to train, ur golden.

and i h8 lesnar but he’s not on juice. Did u see him in his WWE days? he probs was there. No secret. All those guys say they use/see roids around there.

But they dont get checked there for that. Look at the difference in his body now. That gut remains because its most likely the after math from using. But he’s clearly in better shape now, yet still not ass defined.

If you dont ever start using to get that leg up, you dont have to give up the body as long as you stick to the gameplan/ training you have in gear

by daniel worby on Aug 30, 2009 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

oh so you become an MMA fighter just because your big? well, that’s a perfect reason to put a needle in your a$$…
I hate when ppl say “it’s all hard work, baby” when it’s obvious that they’ve juiced, Thiago Alves does that too…

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I am a chemist currently working for Abbot Labs. Trust me guys when I tell you that RoBerto is most likely correct, as sad as that may be. I personally could create a steroid derivative given two weeks of free time. There is a real misconception out there that it is difficult to pass the drug testing. In fact if you know what you are doing, and are not a complete idiot it is difficult to fail one. If you alter even one molecule of Andro or Nano and inject every day for and you would pass any drug test administered by state of Cali. These guys live in a gym and they know where to get these “alterations” as we call them. There are plenty of chemists out there designing this stuff. If any of you think that a 46 year old man can look like a certain fighter did last night through hard work only you are seriously delusional. I could go into scientific facts why this is not possible but will not bore everyone as I fear I already have. Just remember that a man’s testosterone level begins to decrease significanly after the age of 30 never mind 40, and without boosting it artificialy it just ain’t gonna happen. Anyway is this Duffee juicing, probability is 99.99%, but in the end who really cares. Just bring on the fights

Who needs athletic commissions and anti-doping agencies when you’ve got Rob’s eyes! Come one guys it’s obvious he’s trolling us. Good one man.

by NameNotRequired on Aug 31, 2009 1:32 AM EDT up reply actions

JasonE — Thanks for your amazing “expertise.” I’m 43, and I haven’t been able to workout lately because my daughter now lives with me full time. However, prior to that, I was looking pretty damn good on little more than daily Perfect Pushups, pulls ups, Precor Rowing, and some running. If I were training to fight, I imagine I’d look even better. I’d be in the 145/155 range, since I’m only 5’7", but I’m naturally athletic and have always had a naturally muscular physique. I “muscle up” quickly, and it shows quickly.

I work with a guy who doesn’t juice, nicest guy in the world. He’s 6’1, and just decided to start working out again; hasn’t since high school. I have no doubt this guy will be a tank in about two months. He’s just rock solid, built like a Mack truck.

Bottom line, I consider your expert advice to nothing more than hearsay. Your background in chemistry gives you zero credibility regarding training/working out and what it takes to build a great physique sans roids.

You think that the guy in the picture above looks like the freakin’ ballooned up body builders? You think Couture does? I have a similar body to Couture, just smaller frame, though obviously I don’t train like he does. All the more reason why Couture looks so good.

When I was 19 I was naturally 6’3" and 255 lbs. and not fat. Not that lean, but I wasn’t trying to lean out. I could still run a quarter in 60 seconds or less. I’m not bragging, but when you have the frame size to gain the weight it’s not that hard. It’s like a 5’11’’ guy weighing 210 lbs. I was a collegiate athlete and trained about 4 hours a day. 2 of them were lifting weights, I ate right and trained right.

Give him the winner loser of Crocop Dos Santos – Mirko would be a good test for him. Check out the video i put together to promo the Brazilian KO artists fight at UFC 103 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZRXJ0TXpfc

by Paniczoo on Aug 31, 2009 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions

lol, thanks to give me more reassurance on this fight. Your boy is going down, zoop. His side to side waving that you call his striking, will get him KO against the strait punches of Mirko. Plus I said it before he looks constipated every times he fights.

Vid was OK if it was a first, the music was not good I had to skip it to the end, around 2:30min in it. Nice try though.

Hey, what was your sites for your Rogers(don’t know how you call that…Caf?)for undisputed, I lost it. And could you please explain to me how to do it like the Fedor one. Does it, when your finish to build them the skills level pts. come automatically or you got to place them where ever you want like in career mode. I saw some were showing the screenshots pictures of how to build it but not on every fighters.

Video is a first and believe me that decent footage of Dos Santos in his early fights is near impossible to find, if your only complaint is the music then I take it as a compliment, Freestylers Navigator Dkay and Epsilon are on another level. But if you dont like DnB/Breaks youre shit out of luck.

Heres the Create A Fighter formula for UFC 2009 Undisputed game.

Brett Rogers – http://www.mma-caf.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=225

Junior Dos Santos – http://www.mma-caf.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=717 (so you can live out your fantasy of Cro Cop beating him. ;)

by Alpha Male on Aug 31, 2009 11:41 AM EDT up reply actions

I must admit that I wouldn’t be shocked if he was juicing. When I heard his age, and saw all the zits covering his back, it did come to mind. He wouldn’t be the first to be accused of juicing coming from ATT. I would say it is a safe bet that Lashley is juicing.

by naturalshadow on Sep 1, 2009 3:09 AM EDT up reply actions

If he wants a big fight I say give him Gonzaga. I think he could pull it off but it would also let him and us know if he is legit. They should both be ready around the same time considering neither of them took any damage in their fights.

Another could be Tuchsherer or Struve or Russow. McCully struggles with bigger guys and as Joe Rogan said in last nights fight he should probably be cutting to make 205 instead of struggling against super heavyweights.

by Ca$z on Aug 30, 2009 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, Gonzaga’s the most available if the UFC really gives him what he wants. Kongo would’ve been interesting if he wasn’t scheduled for Mir at UFC 107. Dos Santos too might’ve been good, but it’s hard to say what the UFC’s plans will be to incorporate that fight into the HW title picture. Or Struve, Velasquez or Rothwell after UFC 104?

by Jase on Aug 30, 2009 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Gonzaga would be too much too soon. Duffee is an exciting prospect, but needs another undercard fight before facing a big name. I’m thinking more along the lines of Struve or Hardonk as for caliber of his next opponent.

give your head a shake if you think i’m saying he juiced right before this fight.. there are ways to beat the system, and he obviously stopped in time to pass the test.. these guys are fighting like 1 time every 5 months so there’s pleny of time to do something, and when i say steroids i mean in his whole career pre-UFC..

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

The kid was a physical speciman in pee-wee football. They used to have to bring his birth certificate to all the games because none of the coaches ever believed his size was relevant to his age. He was 6’ at 12 years old and over 200#’s. So I am going to venture to say he was legit. He was dumber then a rock but he lived, breathed, and ate the football field and the weight room! One of my best friends sold all of the roids in our high school and he never bought off of him or his supplier, we know that. There is always that maybe, but he never came up dirty in college.

by RoBerto on Aug 31, 2009 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Haha good one RoB, not smart to insult people’s intelligence when you use incorrect grammar Bob. I don’t like to slander fighters for being on the juice unless they get caught or if they have clearly bulked up in a short space of time, especially if they only fight in places without athletic commissions. Duffee is certainly big but until he fails a test I don’t think that it is fair to accuse him of being on the roids.

As for his next fight, I say give him Herring or Gonzaga. Both are talented fighters but are certainly beatable and would be a good test for him before moving on to fight the elite of the division. Possibly someone like McCully or Hardonk would also be a good fight if the UFC don’t want him facing top 10 fighters just yet.

I would love to see him smash Brock.

For those who say he isn’t ready…who’s got more fights?? Maybe not the same level of competition but nearly all the guys Brock has faced are a lot smaller than he is so he needs these kind of opponents to push him.

by Ca$z on Aug 30, 2009 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

he is ready, but it would never happen since he’s completely unknown.. but in theory he’s ready..

by RoBerto on Aug 30, 2009 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions

hard too see if he has any top skill in only 7 seconds. not saying he doesnt have any talent and i havent watched his previous fights but some people are jumping the gun here i think. i do look forward to seeing if he can climb the ladder. and is it just me or are these HWs getting bigger and bigger. i think if you arent at least 250 your going to be too small for these monsters. maybe time to make that cruiserwight division now.

by Egads on Aug 30, 2009 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I know RoBerto. They could never market him yet like they could Brock but he has possibly what it takes to beat Brock (better striking and equal size) and I hope one day he gets to show it. He certainly seems to have the confidence. As you said that is a long way off at the moment though.

by Ca$z on Aug 30, 2009 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions

But can he defend the frieght train style takedowns and get back up when the beast is on you? He needs to go up against someone with good takedowns, before he can be thrown in with Brock. I will say at least he is gun ho. A lot of fighters would be turned off by the possibilty of loosing to the big guys before developing, and he is all for finding out where he stands against the best win or lose. Let us hope he is no another Alexendar. Everyone was all over his hype train after his 2 first fights till Thiago exposed him for what he really was…

by Jono on Aug 31, 2009 1:05 PM EDT up reply actions

hard to tell because hague really isn’t one of those “top guys”. regardless, the record knockout was impressive. but this guy is a super athlete, he’s quick, athletic and he’s fricken huge. coming out of ATT, i expect him to make some noise. next fight for him should be gonzaga…good fighter but not too good. that would be a good gauge as to where he’s at…lose to gonzaga, stay on the undercard, beat gonzaga you fight cheik kongo…beat kongo you move closer to the top 10.

by shiki31 on Aug 30, 2009 4:48 PM EDT reply actions

No, Hague isn’t a “top” guy, but he’s huge, tough HW who has never been stopped in 12 fights before he met up with Duffee. In other words, he’s no push-over, and Duffee put him in la-la land with a jab. Is Duffee ready for the top tier guys? Maybe, but I think he needs to fight a few more lower tier guys to see where is game is and if he’s got any glaring holes. Hard to beat size, strength, power and speed, though. At any rate, the UFC HW division just got a whole lot more interesting.

it will take another big guy 260+ to beat brock. this guy could do it, so could carwin or any other big heavywieght with knockout power, but none of these guys can wrestle like lesner. brock can ground and pound his way to victory against anyone in mma right now, including fedor.

btw, i was about that guys size proportionately when i was 23. i worked out in high schol for football and then worked out hard from 20-23 while i was in the navy. i got pretty big using nitro tek, cell-tek, and NO2. his apparent acne could be caused by shaving hid chest and back, or it could just be a result of working out and sweating everyday and being 23.

Steroid boy needs to get clean before his next fight.

good friend of todd’s…sorry boy’s but he is clean…he is natural…I did shit and he gave me shit for it…Todd thinks steroids fuck up peoples games…ruin cardio…none for him but I would agree that alot of big guys did or do…some are far and inbetween…

Just saw a cut of TUF Heavyweights. There are some big prospects there as well. And it is easily the BLOODIEST TUF in ages.

I don’t really work out that much anymore.. but right after high school I started workin out more than I ever really have ..after about 1 yr I weighed about 270 lbs, I’m 6’4..I started of at like 205. My mom thought I’d taken roids..ahah remember the look she had one day..like “what the f**k you on kid?” I’m 24. I was about 19 then. It def-can be done.

Seriously, everytime some ripped up H/W enters the ring and wins its a sure bet you clowns (roberto) go on the roid rampage on the keyboard……simply shows little knowledge of todays testing proceedures carried out on fighters and very little knowledge of mma, hence the lack of discussions on the fight game and just crap that belongs on the TMZ blogs, i hear Micheal Jackson is eating burgars over there, alive and well.

I would rather fight a grizzly bear than get stuck in the ring with this guy. Okay maybe I’d rethink that, but he’s a genetic freak.

by shitleTOT.com on Aug 31, 2009 3:01 AM EDT reply actions

Honestly…what’s with all the steroid allegations?? It’s called genetics and hard work. This kid has a bright future with some good matchups coming his way and all anyone can talk about is if he roided or not. GTFO until one of his tests come back dirty.

My friend fights mma in south florida, and used to train with att. trust me when I say most of the american top team guys are juicing. Most fighters discontinue the gear a month out from their fight so to not risk failing their test. Thiago failed a drug test already, so he has provenly juiced in the past, yet now hes “clean” but somehow keeps getting bigger and bigger?? The duffe kid was impressive but hes a juice head, plain and simple… Its to bad but mma needs a complete overhaul on drug testing to weed out the roids… The only 2 guys i would for sure bet against using are BJ penn and fedor.

by Jimmy T on Aug 31, 2009 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

lol——bro I train at att and that is such a ridiculous comment…first off some guys get fights within two weeks notice…lol…leaves little time…secondly what type of juice are we talking about here and where do you get off accusing the top fighters in the world who are tested by the top organizations in the world?…If you followed Duffee or anyone at att you would not believe the false accu’s by people who dont step into the cage…I invite you to tour att and join us in FLA for a few months and do your own research…wasnt juice thiago failed for either—-facts bud…facts…plain and simple people waste too much time bringing down a good story from someone who is risking everything he has to train everyday and become the best he can be in a sport he loves…you should wish you had his dedication…trains two to three times daily…and also sprints lifts etc…dont bring down good guys…who the hell cares…seriously

all i hear on hear is how people match size with brock

by erickeown on Sep 1, 2009 2:30 AM EDT reply actions

noone in ufc matches up with brock, this kid was 251, shane carwin is 252-264 through ufc fights and has said he never cut weigh. brock has said he was about 285 for ufc 81 and 276 for ufc 91. noone in ufc is within 10 pounds, and remember brocks weighin pics are before he puts on 10-20 pounds of water
