Fedor Emelianenko has nothing to prove to no one

Props: YouTube.com

Quoteworthy:

"Brett Rogers is a very strong opponent. He is a great opponent. And he has a really very heavy knockout punch. I do not read all the rumors and gossip that is published on the Internet. To tell you the truth, the offer from the UFC was not really the worthy one. And if they are able to give us a really good offer then maybe [one day] we could agree. Frankly speaking, when I am in the cage or ring I don’t feel like I have to prove something. There are a lot of people around me who feel I do, but I don’t think so. When I come into the ring or cage the only thing I’m thinking about is is Russia (and representing it). So I don’t think that I need to prove anything."

Recent Strikeforce acquisition and the last man to hold the PRIDE FC heavyweight title, Fedor Emelianenko, doesn’t feel he has anything to prove, even if those around him do. The reigning World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) heavyweight champion next faces the heavy-handed Brett Rogers in what will be the Russian’s Strikeforce debut. Rogers is fresh off a devastating 22-second knockout of former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, which pushed his record to 10-0. Does he have enough weapons to take out "The Last Emperor" who is nearly perfect in 30 fights or will Emelianenko prove once again that he is indeed the best fighter in MMA today? Perhaps more important, will he ever be able to prove that without ever stepping foot inside the Octagon?

Check out the complete video interview with Fedor after the jump.

WEll I like the interviewer for the Oregonian better…

And oh Fyodor, the cage is where you need to be at boy! Get your as$ to the UFC. I’m sure the UFC gave you a worthy offer. It’s just that your crappy management is just too thick!

Wow. Dana White just announced at the 102 presser that Penn/Sanchez is definitely off for 105. He says they are doing that fight at a THIRD event in November, probably Nov 7, to counter-program Fedor’s Strikeforce debut. He also says the event is going to be neither PPV OR Spike TV, meaning he must have some new network TV deal. November is looking crazy for MMA.

Dana also hinted that Hendo is NOT guaranteed the next shot at Anderson, and that they he would reevaluate the MW title picture after the Marquardt/Maia fight.

Translation: if Maia wins, he’s next over Hendo. If Marquardt wins (and I think he will), who knows… probably Hendo.

So it looks like:

Nov 7) UFC network TV debut, Penn/Sanchez
Nov 7) Strikeforce Fedor/Rogers event (Showtime, PPV in Can)

Nov 15) UFC 105 (Spike, Sportsnet in Can)
Nov 15) Pacquiao/Cotto (HBO PPV)

Nov 21) UFC 106: Lesnar/Carwin (PPV)

Holy crap!!! Three straight weekends of pure unadulterated awesomeness!

LOL. Pac/Cotto is going to be epic. Best boxing fight in years.

by Jeremyjackson on Aug 27, 2009 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Pacman-Cotto is a sick fight and I’d rather watch that than the piss poor UK card, thanks for nothing BJ out of pure spite I hope that SF get a bigger audience for Fedor-Grim than the UFC get for BJ-Diego. Hopefully Andy will save this lackluster card by defending the belt, right now I don’t care who it is as long as I get to see the greatest p4p fighter fight live, although seeing him against Maia would be a bonus, if that happened then I’d be screaming louder and in a higher pitch than teenage girls at a Take That concert.

by David W-S on Aug 27, 2009 8:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah. The only nice thing about BJ bailing on 105 for me is that I get the UK events at 11am here in Vancouver, and it’s hard for me to gewt pumped for fights at that time of day. Now I can just chill, watch a pretty weak UK card in the morning, and prepare myself for drunken revelry at night with the Pac-man fight. Sucks for you guys though, David. I feel your pain bro.

syd is right, pac is waaay faster and just better all around, than cotto!~

boxing has nothing great to offer anymore..

i want to see pacman/pretty boy~ but that will NEVER happen..

cross-promo will be the final blow for boxing.. ko style~

if there was ONLY one top boxing promotion, boxing could live!~ thats why the ufc lives strong!~

cross promo will be the reason we will NEVER see pac/floyd!~

cotto/pac will still be an entertaining bout, but thats just cause we get to see pacman put on a clinic..

I don’t think so, Stinky.

Cotto will body attack Pac and cause him alot of problems.

Cotto took a shellacking from a “cast amplified” Margarito for 11 rounds.

Pacman’s power will not pose a problem.

I love how he keeps responding to these internet rumors. He never did that before but now that everyone is trashing him for ducking real competition he keeps trying to explain that the UFC offer wasn’t good enough and that he has nothing to prove. LMAO you have nothing to prove because you continue to fight cans to avoid actual competition. The problem I have is that Fedor holds the UFC to higher standards. He keeps touting that the UFC didn’t provide him an adequet offer although I’ll bet you anything that the UFC contract offer blew the Strikeforce offer out of the water. I’m glad Fedor found the most important clause of his contract was that he be allowed to go over to DREAM yearly to fight freakshow fights, must have missed the memo where that made sense for the UFC. Please just continue not worrying about pressure or proving yourself Fedor because while your not worried about that the majority of the hardcore fans won’t worry about who your fighting seeing as how after two fights you’ll have nobody left thats even close to top ten to fight.

If this is accurate, I’d agree nog/couture is the best bet for a title shot. Cro cop or dos santos’s names are being thrown around, but I don’t see it. I’m a huge cro cop fan, but he has no ground game, Brock will take him down and pound him out easily (but that may be the case with everyone)!

he’s fighting can’s cogito? roger’s resume is as good as carwin’s. carwin has beat gonzo, thats it. roger’s has beaten aa, thats it. aa is a former champ in the ufc though so he may even have a slightly better resume. i said on the post earlier that you can’t call fedor a pussy for not signing with the ufc, without calling lesnar, carwin, cain, etc pussies for signing with the ufc when affliction had a better hw division at the time they signed. if they wanted to fight the best they should have been trying to fight fedor then.couture was the ufc champ at the time and said fedor was the best. the ufc didn’t even have anyone to beat him at the time. i don’t think any of them are pussies, i just think they done what was best for them at the time. just don’t have a double standard when it comes to fedor.

by buttcrack obama bin laden on Aug 27, 2009 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I can’t see them giving Randy another shot already if he wins. If Nog wins, I could see him getting the next shot.

It’s probably the same for Maia/Marquardt. If Nate wins, they’ll probably give him another contender. If Maia wins, he’ll probably get a shot. The UFC can better sell a guy that Anderson hasn’t already destroyed, and they can hype it with the “best striker in the world vs best grappler in the world” scenario.

by Jeremyjackson on Aug 27, 2009 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

couture is the only guy able to control Brock in the wrestling, I could see it for ppv sales alone

by kevin on Aug 27, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

JJ, from the UFC’s point of view giving Couture a title shot if he wins makes PERFECT sense.

If he beats Lesnar (or Carwin), by UFC contract he cannot leave the UFC.

If he loses the title shot, any alure of him fighting Fedor will be all but killed.

by WB on Aug 27, 2009 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe I’m Biased but Randy did not control him in the wrestling, it was even or Brock had the upper hand.

by jay on Aug 27, 2009 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We’ll see, Kev and WB. I did consider that scenario, but I have a feeling Randy will win, and he won’t get a shot. I bet his last UFC fight is at LHW.

Buttcrack I said he’d be out of legit fights after two fights (Alistar and Roger) the only two top tens that Fedor has to fight with strikforce. It would help if you read my post. Also I’m not saying Fedor is a pussy cause I know he can beat anyone in the UFC, I’m saying because he choose to take the cheap way out and pretend like the UFC didn’t give him a great offer that he’s a pussy. In regards to calling Brock and everyone who signed with the UFC one is even funnier imo. My question to you is should they have joined a company that was bound to go bottom up in less than two years? Barnett may have been the straw that broke the camels back but Affliction was going bankrupt long before that.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Aug 27, 2009 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no you said he is continuing to fight cans. his last fight was arlovski who was ranked no3 hw at the time and he was scheduled to fight the no2 ranked hw last. if you’re saying he’ll be fighting cans after rogers and overeem, i’ll agree to that. my point is if you say he’s a puss you have to call those guys out for the same reason, fighting less comp when there is better. i do disagree you think he will beat brock, just because of the size issue. him fighting brock is like gsp fighting fedor. i believe brock would win 8 out of 10.

by buttcrack obama bin laden on Aug 27, 2009 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think Fedor takes this via knockout. Or he will at least drop Rogers. Like he did with Tim Sylvia. Rogers has power punches but I see Fedor being way too fast for Rogers on the feet and we all know that Fedor would dominate on the ground as well.

I gotta say that I am 100% sure that the UFC’s offer was great. I’m also 100% sure it was the same if not better than Randy or Brock (who are making 5 million a fight). I’ll go back and get the PPV scale that Randy gets, I read it a while back and it surprised the hell out of me. It was something like 3 bucks per ppv over 300k plus base pay. There is no way strikeforce can match that (unless they plan on folding).
as far as Rogers, he has a punchers chance, we’ve never seen his ground game. He hits like a truck, is quick and definitely a worthy opponent!

by kevin on Aug 27, 2009 11:11 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

come on there kevin… you think he would have turned down a GUARENTEED 5 million for one fight? extremely doubtful, and also, his contract probably did not guarentee that he would make the same amount for his next fight, and they also most likely wanted to keep him out of any other promotion/tournament such as sambo, etc.

by brendan on Aug 27, 2009 3:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

idk if rogers actually hits all that hard though, he’s knocked out 1 man that is any good in arlovski, and that’s a man who has always had a suspect chin so you can’t base his power off that, and he fought a bunch of cans before that at least when carwin beat gonzaga it was a man that had a great chin

here’s the thing, these guys are all professional athletes.
“who had GG beat?”
“who has fedor beat?”
etc
come on guys. No matter who they fight, to put on a winning streak is hard in professional sports. Grim is 10-0 and you say against who. I don’t care! Yes he’s green, but to win 10 fights in a sport where “anything can happen” is impressive!
who has carwin beat? Look at Randy’s record. God damn I’m hot right now.
Lebron is top 3 NBA player right now…he’s never won a championship, does that take away from his skills?

Good fight JJ, looks like Lawler’s getting submitted once again shame for him because he’s a good fighter but can’t compete on the ground with quality BJJ fighters like Shields and Jacare.

Kevin spot on, honestly some people have made ridiculous comments because Fedor didn’t sign with the UFC. Don’t get me wrong, Fedor deserves to be bashed for caring more about M-1 than his fans by signing for a SF instead of the UFC, but I don’t understand why SF are being blamed. Their HW division is weak and there is little competition for Fedor but I don’t hold it against them for signing a quality fighter, I was annoyed when Coker hinted that Fedor would fight weaker opposition but Rogers is a legitimate opponent. Grim is an undefeated with an impressive win over his only name opponent, just like Cain and Carwin and I bet if Fedor was matched up with either of those 2 then nobody would be calling them cans. The hypocrisy displayed in Fedor posts these days is baffling.

UFC was not the worthy on? I have to guess he was offered a lot more money to fight in the UFC than SF. Besides, now that he is in the EA SPorts MMA game he doesn’t have a chance with the UFC. After all, didn’t Dana say noone who signed on with that game would fight in the UFC? He had to honor Randy’s contract and I’m sure he will not re-sign him to be in the UFC since he too is in the game. Yeah right…fat chance of keeping his word. As much as I’m hated here (because as OJR said “it’s fashionable”) I’m here to learn and spread any knowledge I may have!

I prefer john, kevin and intro’s posts to all of the nonsense troll stuff that I have to wade through sometimes.

Everyone here is a biased fanboy so I don’t see the reason for all the hate.

Disagree but don’t bash somebody because you disagree.

Opinions are never based on facts, and that’s why debates can be fun.

BTW Intro, get ready to type this out, buddy :

OJR is KING!

Fedor is a pansy! I used to like him and respect him as a fighter but the last 3 or 4 years he avoids fighting any opponent that poses any real threat. Yes Fedor you do have A LOT to prove!!!!

by Wes on Aug 27, 2009 11:54 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

AA and Timmy posed a threat until Fedor walked through them.

Why is that his fault?

by introvert on Aug 27, 2009 12:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Neither one of these guys can take a good punch. I’m sure it was a very calculated decision on his part to fight these two UFC has-beens. They were both brief title holders in the UFC. Titleholders, not champions, because there is a HUGE difference. JUst ask Buster Douglass, he knocked out MIke Tyson, never did a thing in his career before that or after. Fedor avoids competition like it’s the bubonic plague

by Wes on Aug 27, 2009 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They were top 5 HW’s when Fedor walked through them both.

by introvert on Aug 27, 2009 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There is a big point most are missing. The entire HW division, promotion to promotion, has warts. Contenders are being propped up with very skimpy bodies of work. Championship fights pit champs vs suspect competition. By far, HW is the weakest division for talent. Like boxing, the top HW should be “the baddest man on the planet”, and be the guy that captures interest of new fans, but instead we have kind of a mess….A top guy fighting a small band of suspect contenders….another top guy without much experience also fighting suspect contenders, and a few guys with some potential being rushed to the big stage too early, and before they have earned it in all fairness. Problem is, they are there by default, as there is no one else due to the weakness of the division.

by CL on Aug 27, 2009 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Shogun, Buster never had any notable wins. He was supposed to be an easy set-up for Tyson before he fought Holyfield in what was supposed to be the biggest single money making fight in history. But Tyson didn’t take Douglass seriously and trained only 3 weeks for the fight and the rest is history. Please don’t talk out your butt.

“When I come into the ring or cage the only thing I’m thinking about is pressure” was incorrectly translated. He actually said the only thing he thinks about is Russia (and representing it), and the way the translator said it, it sounded like “pressure”.

Lol
it’s lonely at the top when u won’t fight the guys around you on the division, how many ufc guys have said they want to fight the best and that they want fedor to come to the ufc? How many fans are gutted not because they hate fedor but his decision to sign for strikefarse?? Who honestly beleives that’s fedors true tests lie outside the ufc??!! I take it all these people are wrong and you are right?! Lol

fedor knows exactly what he has done and I’m afraid there is no hiding place despite his comments, mma has evolved ten fold since he fought top guys, I honestly think he would struggle in the ufc, and so does he!!!!!

by Mo on Aug 27, 2009 11:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

These “top guys” people keep mentioning are a figment of people’s imagination. All the pissing and moaning is really about one fight we will not see anytime soon. Face the facts people, there is no opponent that either Fedor or Lesnar can face right now (save for each other) whose resume or current relevance can’t be critisized or picked apart fairly easily. The division as a whole is still by far the weakest weight class.

just remember, all these ufc guys had a chance to sign with affliction when they had the best hw division but chose to fight in the ufc which had an inferior hw division at the time. affliction had 3 of the top 5 hw’s at the time and the number 1 p4p fighter overall in their stable. so if they really wanted to fight the best shouldn’t they have signed with affliction?

Fair is fair. It’s a good question for those making the “ducking top competition” claim. I’m not however, convinced there is at present a list of “top guys” or contenders the overall fan base would agree are legitimate worthy opponents for either Fedor or Lesnar. Some interesting fights…..yes…..guys with potential….yes…..but a win by either of these two over any other opponent will be minimized by a significant % of the fan base. Other than these two…..who could be held up as a legit opponent much of the fan base wouldn’t flame as being a can, inexperienced, or a has been? Frankly it’s a no win for either Fedor or Lesnar depending on one’s preference or opinion. Wins are not worth much, and any loss will mean to many they were/are over-rated to begin with. Doesn’t seem fair, does it?

by CL on Aug 27, 2009 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

brett rodgers is not a can!

he is not the top competition….he is a decent fight.

Fedor doesnt have anything left to prove…..he proved himself like 5 years ago. now hes just making a living.

he doesnt care about being number 1 in the world appart from it helping him to make money. he has fought good competition recently.

Your right but because he doesn’t face the best anymore he should not be considered the best he’s a legend for sure but not the best now because of what you just stated unlike Hughes,Couture & Chuck who have all fought top contenders and have lost but kept on fighting the best Fedor doesn’t deserve as high as praise as these guy’s.

Is it just me, or is Fedor news getting to be like the annual Brett Favre will-he-or-won’t-he banter at the end of every season for his last 4 years with the Packers? Fedor’s a big name in the sport, but the evidence for his reputation is further and further in the rear view mirror all the time. The only way to know if he’s still MVP caliber is to fight super bowl quality opponents, and those are all in the UFC right now.

The other question I have is, if the UFC’s offer was so bland in comparison to Strikeforce’s, then why don’t Fedor et al make the offered terms public for everyone to know and put the whole thing to rest? I know Dana won’t do that because it affects every other HW he negotiates with, but what does Fedor have to lose by doing it?

Mir and Fedor have both beat NOG why does Mir not get the same respect as Fedor? Hopefully we get to see a Mir NOG two and Three after he beats him three times then maybe he will? The three first fights for Fedor would be

1)Brock
2)230LB A.Silva
3)230LB Machida

Fedor goes 0-3 M1 & Fedor didn’t want to take a chance on that happening so Strikeforce was the easy choice.

mir doesn’t get the same respect because he’s frank mir. brock wins but i don’t see anyone else. the only reason brock wins is his 25% weight advantage.

Silva and Machida who both can get close to 230 with out losing any speed or cardio would be awsome fights. I honestly believe Silva would beat him machida I would be 50/50 on but even if Fedor won I think it would be great fights to watch and Fedor would at least earn his ranking.

I don’t understand how UFC is automaticly the “best in the world” They don’t exsist anywhere in the world other than the US. How is a fighter with a 4-1 record (80% win rate) “better” than a fighter with a 30-1 record (97% win rate)? Who has Brock proved himself against? Mir (with a loss in there)? The UFC heavyweight division is as week as professional boxing’s heavy weight division. Speak up boys, I can’t hear you with Dana’s dong in your mouth!

you take NOG and Cro Cop off Fedors list what has he really done? Don’t be fooled by the record common sense is all you need to realize there isn’t to many top ten fighters on his list besides some LHW and MW.

by Puck Head on Aug 27, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m not gonna sit here and say Brock is better than Fedor, although I think Brock would have a damn good chance of kicking his ass but your comparison is useless. 97% win rate means nothing when you are fighting garbage opponents. He’s fought one maybe two decent fighters in the past 5 years, and he doesn’t usually even dominate the garbage opponents. Any fighter at the top (which Fedor definitely is, just not even close to the best) can easily go 30-1 when you fight garbage opponent after garbage opponent.

Also how the hell can you say the UFC heavyweight division is weak. They have the vast majority of the top fighters in the world. There’s 2-4 top heavyweights at most that they don’t have.

The AS/Machida matchup was more of an afterthought, a fantasy matchup if you will. I didn’t say he would have to beat those guys to “gain my respect”. I wouldn’t start calling the guy a coward if he beat the UFC’s HW champ, then refused to cut 20lbs to take on AS or 50lbs to take on GSP or whoever.

I agree with this fellow! If he truly doesn’t feel like he has to prove anything, then he doesn’t! Maybe his goals aren’t to be remembered as the best ever! Maybe he’s just trying to make the most money he can so he can provide for his family well into the future! Just because we(myself included) want to see him in the UFC and we believe the UFC has the best fighters, doesn’t mean he sucks if he doesn’t do there! We as fans want to see awesome fights! We expect it each and every time! Especially when we pay to see it! So, for those who are second guessing what goes on behind the scenes with these “deals,” I highly recommend you find a fighter or two and become a manager. Then, go try to do what’s BEST for you fighter, yet please ALL the fans. And by the way, I’m no Fedor nutthugger, but I respect the guy! And as far as I’m concerned, he doesn’t have anything to prove to me! I can tell he’s a real badass by the way he carries himself. This is a true battlefield warrior that has ended up in MMA somehow! Not a “Fighter” that claims he’s a warrior, but the real deal. And you can see the difference if you just look. No offense intended to those whose oppinion differs!

All I’m saying is that if a fighter, not just Fedor, is satisfied with their fights, so am I! Because, at the end of the day, I just want to see the fight! I’m a real big fight fan! I don’t watch any other sport and never have even as a kid! The only reason I think this is an exciting matchup is because Rogers can pull off an upset ONLY because he has devestating power! Other than that, I don’t believe he can hold the top 20 HW’s jock straps! Sure! I’d much rather see him fight Brock, Mir, Randy Slo-ture, etc….. But, Dana
“D1ckhead” White probably tried to get Fedor to give up rights to his first born or some sh1t like that! Unfortunately, we can’t see what really goes on behind the scenes all the time. So, we will never know exactly what Dana asked of Fedor. Besides, we can’t just sit back and blame just Fedor and M1! It’s Dana’s fault too(Mostly) if he don’t give us the fights we want! At the end of the day, it takes reasonable negotiation on both sides. And from what I keep seeing, Fedor doesn’t seem to have a problem with other venues! Just with Dana! And we’ve seen many others with the same issues! So, maybe Fedor just isn’t willing to accept some of the Bullsh1t terms Dana gets other fighters to accept just because they want to be in the “Big Show!” Also, Dana wants Fedor, Fedor is calling him for a job!

by introvert on Aug 27, 2009 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Of course he wouldn’t have to do it to “garner your respect”. If he beat Bob Sapp, Jose Canseco then Butterbean you’d still blindly swing from his nuts.

You asked the question intro, dont be surprised if you get answers you dont like.

It’s at the back of my mind and a lot of others that Fedor refused to come to the UFC coz he was ducking Lesnar and taking safe fights. Not saying this is true, but to garner respect off me yes he would have to come to the UFC and defeat their champion Lesnar, to quell any doubts once and for all.

I personally believe Fedor would win the fight but I actually want to see it happen and not have to make do with coulda, woulda, shoulda.

I certainly wouldn’t bash the guy if he refused to move down in weight. He’s fought at HW his entire career and never showed any interest in moving down. That’s his choice and I’d respect that.

Don’t bother BNF, I’ve been saying for over a year now that Fedor’s toughest fights are at 205. All these guys say why would he move down when he dominates the HW division, for some reason better competition and better fights doesn’t cross their minds!

by kevin on Aug 27, 2009 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fedor is the man!!! He is one of my favorite fighters and I would love to see him in the UFC. To me if he says that the UFC offer wasn’t good enough then it wasn’t good enough and that is that. You guys that think you know exactly what went down in the contract negotiations or know exactly what Fedor’s terms were make me laugh. Then calling him a prick and scared to fight top flight competition is probably one of the dumbest things I have ever seen.

Oh well that is why it is a bloggers web site. Any moron that thinks they know what is best for a fighter and the sport can get on to post what he or she is thinking at the time.

mmafan1981, there is a 0% chance that strikeforce offered more money. I don’t know about you, but money makes my world go round. If I was a fighter, top competition is what I would want. If the UFC’s offer topped out at 5-6 million a fight (based on ppv buys), and strikeforce pays 1 million a fight (hypothetically) then he’s lying, period. It then becomes not about money but about M-1. either way, he can retire in russia with either pay day, but it makes him look bad! It would be like lebron turning down 100 million to play for the cavs but taking 50 million to play in europe so he could win a championship over there!

Introvert, it is funny how that always happens after a post like that isn’t it? LOL!!

Kevin, you are right there is no way I would pass up that kind of money either. The difference is that I am not in Fedor’s position so I can’t really begin to guess what was going on in his head.

As a fan of course I want to see him fight the best in the world but if I can’t have it then so be it. There really is nothing I can do about it. Would I rather see him fight Brock Lesnar than Grim, hell yeah. That doesn’t mean that I think Grim is a bad opponent. It is quite the opposite I think that Rogers is going to be a very difficult opponent for Fedor. Does he deserve to fight him, no way but that is the way it goes.

It sucks that we are still in the early stages of MMA and there is to much division between all of the organizations. Sooner or later it will all get worked out but by that time Fedor may be past his prime. Which for the hardcore fans would really suck because he is such a great fighter and we would love to see him against the best in the world.

So, the only real answer I got for my question was Brock.

So, Brock is what?…4-1. So, if Fedor beat him, what exactly does beating a 4-1 guy do to improve Fedor’s legacy? Jack squat. All we’d here is “ya, but if Brock ate eggs this morning instead of Raisin Bran, he would have killed Fedor…..blah, blah, blah”

The fact is you guys hate Fedor no matter what he does, and since you can’t even acknowledge that there is a worthy opponent for him says it all.

by introvert on Aug 27, 2009 12:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

People got really bitter after the deal fell through.

That should be the most obvious answer for your question, Intro.

My personal response (outside of Brock) is Overeem (due to his striking, it might fluster Fedor ala AA)?

by OJR on Aug 27, 2009 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s not true at all. I used to be a fan but not anymore. You can’t say you’re the best until you beat the best. 3 or 4 years ago he was kind of doing that, in Pride anyway. NOt now. He avoids the best competition. It’s a fact not opinion.

by Wes on Aug 27, 2009 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

To be the best you have to beat the best. It’s fine that he doesn’t want to fight the best but his #1 ranking needs to come down.

by Puck Head on Aug 27, 2009 3:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well if he’s ranked #1, and Brock’s #2, wouldn’t Brock have to go fight Fedor to be crowned the new #1? Why is it all on Fedor’s back to go fight the #2 guy, but Brock has to take no responsibility?

bro u know dont know what UR TALking about, listen bottom line Fedor is the real deal he beat alot of top guys, and have never been upseted by anyone, u all say Bret is not worthy and he is nobody but all it takes is a “nobody” which bret is not, to beat someone. Anderson Silva and all these other so called pound for pound kings have all been beat by guys u wud never even see coming…. so does who is the best guys it all depends on the matchups. u cant say carwin is a title shot contender and say Bret is not. Ask u self this who is a better fighter Gonzaga or Arlovski then ask yourself which guy beat the better fighter

I was just commenting on how many, not all, Brock fans seem to be fairweather bandwagon fans. Kind of like how Kimbo was supposed to be the best in the world and was going to take over all of mma and blah blah blah. It’s one thing to be a fan, but to declare him the best in the world is stupid. He lost his second or third fight and still got a title shot. That shows how weak the division really is. He didn’t climb any mountain. Carwin is 10-0 and just getting his first title shot now, no? Explain that “best in the world” fans.

Saying Fedor is scared to fight in the UFC makes about as much sense as saying Dana is afraid to co-promote because M1 fighters would tear thru his UFC fighters and put him out of business.

It’s not Fedor’s fault Barnett crapped out on steroids. If they fought that would have made Silvia, AA, and Barnett as his last three opponents. That’s the best last 3 opponents anyone in the world has fought. That’s three former UFC champs, all of whom were ranked in the top 5 when Fedor fought them.

Of course, after Fedor beats them they perform like they are cursed. Once you’ve been to the mountaintop and been crushed it does something to you. But you can’t take back how those guys were regarded before they stepped in the ring with him.

Only Brock has faced a similar level of competition in his last three fights (Mir, Randy, Herring). That’s two former champs and a solid vet. Now that Barnett has f’d the dog, Fedor will be fighting a relatively unproven big HW KO artist. It’s a big step down from Barnett, but still, at least the guy poses a threat.

Fedor is in more of a holding pattern now while he dispatches some borderline top 10 competition. Brock will gain on him in the rankings if he keeps winning, but it will take a lot to surpass the fact that Fedor is undefeated in 30 fights and has taken out 2 of the best of all time in Nog and Cro Cop.

intro its not that brocks record is all that great now but he will most definately be on top for awhile when he gets there. alot can happen in 3-5 years and i also think that if youre good youre good. your record doesnt just go from 0-0 to 10-0 you gotta earn it. most fighters at least have 3 or more pro fights before ufc will pick them up. brock was an anomaly, they werent gonna wait on him cuz of his drawing power. but yea i see what people are saying when theyre mad about him being 2-1 and getting a shot at the title. you just dont see that ever. but again brock sells ppv’s , i woulda gave him 1 or 2 more guys after mir and herring just to earn it even somewhat but thats not how it went down. i think brocks good enough already where yes his size would give anyone fits. but fedor would own him i think in the long run. it would only serve to show that fedor is without question the best in the world at heavyweight (which i think is obvious to most) and that his time is still now and brock hasta wait his turn. i woulda loved to see him in ufc but ya brett rogers is a good fight for him if he hasnt fought all that much recently.

I’m not a huge rogers fan, but you have to give the guy credit, he’s not backing down and he’s pretty humble about it. But yes, feeadoor does has something to prove! he needs to prove he’s the best. I’m soo sick of people taking his side, yes, fedor is respectfull and he dosent run his mouth, but he surounds himself with people all looking to make an easy buck, and they are the ones that are starting all the negative press. he needs to get better managers and i think all his problems will go away. not to mention he would be in the ufc making more money.

by BoBBy on Aug 27, 2009 1:35 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It’s going to be interesting to see if fighting in a cage changes his performance at all. I think of this as a good direction towards hopefully getting into the UFC after proving himself some more, considering there’s people who refer to him as overrated or as a joke.

by Daniel Contogiannis on Aug 27, 2009 2:07 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You say take NOG and Cro Cop off Fedor’s list and what has he done, I say leave Brock’s list just the way it is and what has he done?

by Bryan139 on Aug 27, 2009 2:51 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

And just those two wins alone make Fedor more proven than Brock. Brock hasn’t beaten anybody. Splitting with Mir who’s 16-9 or 16-6 or something like that should be a strike against him, not for him. Beating a ancient Randy Couture shouldn’t even count. And to me, going to a decision with Herring should be a strike against him as well.

by Bryan139 on Aug 27, 2009 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just getting in the ring with Hong Man Choi, Zuluzinhio, Mark Hunt, Matt Lindland, Gary Goodridge, Iron Head Fujita should all be strikes against you too. If we go back any further Fedor will be in minus points!

by attakdog on Aug 27, 2009 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bryan just use your common sense it’s obvious his record is inflated and Brock has done nothing but face top calibure fighters starting in his first fight and all those fighters could beat any of Fedor’s opponents not including NOG. Hell herring could win over a lot of the names on Fedor’s list and Herring is the worst fighter Brock has faced.

by Puck Head on Aug 27, 2009 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t see a 60lbs lighter, 40 year old Randy Couture as a top caliber opponent. I don’t see Frank Mir as a top caliber opponent either. Great fighters, absolutely. But wins over these guys hardly makes Brock the “best in the world.” I’m not really arguing that Fedor is the best, even though I feel he is, so much as I feel Brock isn’t. At a paltry 4-1 I think that’s just too bold of a statement to make for any fighter.

by Bryan139 on Aug 27, 2009 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know your opinion of Mir so let’s leave him out for now by next year your opinion of Mir’s status will change and we will be able to talk about him being a top five HW even by you shogun LOL. But really of those guy’s none of them would have a good chance against Randy and way less of a chance against Brock especially the LHW and MW fighter. My opinion is Mir would wipe the floor against those guy’s as well AA always has a striking chance against anyone but not much.
