HDNet to air M-1: 'Breakthrough' LIVE Aug. 28 at 10 p.m. ET

Note: For those who do not have HDNet M-1: "Breakthrough" will also be available to watch via online pay-per-view (PPV).

DALLAS -- HDNet will feature exclusive coverage of "HDNet Fights Presents: M-1 Global Breakthrough," LIVE from the historic Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Missouri, Friday, August 28 at 10:00 p.m. ET.

In a special feature attraction, Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko -- the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet -- makes his live U.S. television debut in a grappling exhibition against newly crowned Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion, Gegard "The Dreamcatcher" Mousasi.

In the main event of the evening, the former NCAA wrestling champion and undefeated MMA star Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal makes his U.S. debut against another former NCAA Champion Mark "The Smashing Machine" Kerr. The fight is an unparalleled opportunity for Kerr, a former star in both theUFC and PRIDE, to launch a major comeback on national television.

"It is indeed special to have two of the top fighters in the world in Fedor and Gegard -- with a combined record of 56 wins and 3 losses -- put on a grappling exhibition for HDNet's MMA fans," said Andrew Simon, CEO of HDNet Fights. "There has also been a lot of buzz internationally about King Mo and Karl Amoussou and I'm pumped that fans will get to see them LIVE on HDNet!"

The rest of the card features some of the most promising international prospects in MMA.

In other action, Lucio "Spartan" Linhares (12-4, Finland) meets Mikhail Zayats (8-3, Russia), Jessie Gibbs (8-2, Holland) squares off with Rob Broughton (10-4-1, England), Karl "Psycho" Amoussou (10-2-1, France) faces "The Iron Bull" John Doyle (9-8, Philadelphia, PA), Lloyd "Kadillac" Marshbanks (17-8, San Diego, CA) collides with Michael Kita (5-3, Poland), plus Daisuke Nakamura (19-10, Tokyo, Japan) tangles with Ferrid "The Hurricane" Kheder (14-3, Los Angeles, CA)

I’m not going to automatically assume Mo Lawal wins, but if he does, he should face someone in the top 20 at least. That probably means a trip to the UFC. Not sure about his contract situation but if he’s a free agent, he should be signing up for the Octagon.

He needs to fight someone ranked in the top 200 before he can be considered for the UFC.

It’s highly likely Mo’s gonna win this fight, Kerr was last relevant 12 years ago, hasn’t adapted his game at all since then, and has a loss against Mustapha Al Can Turk. If Mo cant win this he should find a new vocation.

What happened to Don frye?

by Dixon on Aug 26, 2009 9:21 AM EDT reply actions

He withdrew because he thinks the people at M1 “Haven’t got their shit together”.

They changed the venue multiple times and said they didn’t need him to do advertising etc

King Mo is going to K.O Mark Kerr. Those guys like Mark Kerr, Ken Shemrock, Don Fry, Pedro Rizzo…shouldn´t be fighting the new broads, youngers guys. Thats stupid!

Oh, you mean like Bonner v Coleman? Ortiz v Shamrock? Yeah, I agree.

Well, go ahead and bring on the “your not a true MMA fan”, the “you must be new to the sport”, and my favorite “it’s MMA not UFC you newbie” comments.

Because I’m not feeling “Breakthrough” at all.

Besides MMA, the NFL or college football would be my next favorites. That said, I hate watching practice video, and can barely watch pre-season games. I have no interest in watching a promoted sparring match, that would normally be on the web in some grainy you tube video. Sure, I’ll tivo it and eventually watch it between Law and Order re-runs…maybe.

I agree about the sparring match! What a waste, I’m not even going to Tivo that! Fedor is really going to become more irrelivant now! And time will just simply phase him out. Very sad for MMA!

Exhibition?? Mud wrestling porn starlets should be an exhibition, not two talented fighters like Fedor and Mousasi. What losers!

I had no idea this was going to be on HDNet, Sweet!! Amoussou is a good up-and-comer who should find his way to the big shows soon. As for Fedor and Gegard exhibition thing, well, whatever, would people be complaining if Couture or Lesnar were in a special exhibition grappling match against say… Lyoto Machida or some random guy they wont ever professionaly fight?

I love HDNet! Super resolution AND great fights.

1-2 new complete fight cards a week from around the world, and the weekly 1 hr MMA news show with great guests like Couture, GSP, Anderson Silva and more!!!!!!!

I love not having to spend $45-$55 for 1 PPV partial fight card and sitting in the comfort of my own home.

VIVA HDNET!!!!!

If you’ve not seen MMA on HDNET, you just don’t know what you’re missing.

There is no such thing as UFC outside of the United States. Fedor isn’t going anywhere. And if you think a fighter that got a title shot with a record of 2-1 is the best fighter in the world you need to take Dana’s johnson out of your mouth.

by Bryan139 on Aug 26, 2009 12:47 PM EDT reply actions

That’s exactly right. The UFC has NOT had several events in different parts of England, has NOT held an event in Germany, will NOT hold an event in Ciudad Mexico next year and does NOT employ American, Canadian, Brazilian, British and Japanese fighters.

And saying the UFC HW champion isn’t the best HW in the world is like saying the Super Bowl champions aren’t the best team in football because they didn’t face the mighty Scotland Claymores from the World League.

by PW on Aug 26, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Ha, “Scotland Claymores”. Nice one P-dub. I love posters that continue to throw out the 2-1 record. The guy is an absolute beast, get over it gentlemen.

by Canucklehead on Aug 26, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

the ufc champ is not the best hw in the world, fedor is hands down. has nothing to do with brock maybe one day he will prove himself to be the best but he hasn’t done that yet.

by roy on Aug 26, 2009 6:44 PM EDT up reply actions

…and there is no such thing as StrikeForce outside of the USA, and there is no such thing as AFFLICTION, PRIDE or ELITE XC period!

But fret not global MMA fans. M-1 is here to satisfy your thirst for world class MMA. Man, that’s just a lame comment, really lame.
