UFC 102 odds and betting lines for 'Couture vs Nogueira'

The clock is ticking to get your bets in for UFC 102: "Couture vs. Nogueira" — it’s now just a few days away!

The pay-per-view (PPV) event from the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore., begins Saturday, Aug. 29 at 10 p.m. ET. That means, of course, that you should start to think about placing possible bets on the fight outcomes before it’s too late.

There are some very competitive match ups on this card, including the main event between former champions and legends of the sport, Randy Couture and Anotnio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira. Couture, the perennial underdog, is favored to win -- think he's got what it takes to make it happen?

If not, then spreading some cheddar on "Big Nog" could be the way to go. Same goes for other dogs, including Demian Maia and Thiago Silva, among others.

Here are the latest UFC 102 odds (- = favorite; + = underdog):

Randy Couture -180 BET NOW
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira +150 BET NOW
Nate Marquardt -160 BET NOW

i’m betting on Nogueira, thiago, and maia.

by realmma on Aug 23, 2009 11:57 AM EDT reply actions

thiago silva is an excellent bet, marquardt will win for sure.

by shamo84 on Aug 23, 2009 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Yep, goin’ with those picks too. But I didn’t know Couture was such a favorite on this one, odds considered. I was definitely thinkin’ that they might also loosely base the odds on a fighter’s last fight. And we all know how Minotauro’s last fight went…

by Syd on Aug 23, 2009 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I just rewatched Couture vs Lesnar. Randy is a bad man. He stood up from being mounted, pushed Brock against the cage, landed several good shots off the break. He actually took Brock down. All my money is on Randy.

Also, at the end of the fight, I was able to see how truly luck Brock was with where that punch landed. Randy was dodging Brock’s jab and it was the following shot that caught him behind the ear…..clipped the skull right in that area behind the ear. Now, if the UFC had the replay during that fight, would it have been a NC?

Anyway, Randy FTW.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 23, 2009 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Well that’s a legal striking zone so it would remain a TKO. The redefined no hit areas are the mohawk and the bottom base at the back of the skull. A weird middle point b/t the Big John school of thought and the CSAC earphone guidelines.

by NameNotRequired on Aug 23, 2009 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Interesting. Makes sense I suppose.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 24, 2009 1:11 AM EDT up reply actions

Nogueria, jardine (even though i dont like him) and maia

by JarodG on Aug 23, 2009 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Randy, Nate, and Jardine. Keith is a lock.

by DB on Aug 23, 2009 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t be so sure that Keith is a lock

by frosnt on Aug 23, 2009 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Randy, Nate, and Vera will ride out to victory or my name is not Indiana Jones!

by The real Indiana Jones on Aug 23, 2009 11:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Straight value people – Demian, Nog, A Train, T Silva too. Sucks that they got wise about Todd Duffee.

by NameNotRequired on Aug 23, 2009 11:59 AM EDT reply actions

Tim Hague is not a bad bet either!

by Alpha Male on Aug 23, 2009 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Getting good value on Nog, Maia and I’d say the steal of the show is probably Soszynski

by JPayne on Aug 23, 2009 12:02 PM EDT reply actions

Nah. Vera would still be a safer bet. And I’m speaking as a countryman, extremely biased!!! LOL

by Syd on Aug 23, 2009 5:35 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL Thiago Silva is the lock of the year.. Can’t understand how Jardine can be the fav

by RoBerto on Aug 23, 2009 12:13 PM EDT reply actions

i like your style, roberto, I agree on thiago silva being a sure thing..

by shamo84 on Aug 23, 2009 12:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually its not a sure bet that Thiago would win- he’s good don’t get me wrong, but what top 5 fighter has he fought except for machida where he got owned… atlesat jardine has fought top 5 guyz on a regular basis-

Rampage- lost but put on a war with him
W.Silva- KO
Forrest Griffin- Beat him down
Chuck Liddel- Took him to a UD win

And then he fought brendon vera and beat him too… so i can him being the favourite in this fight against T.Silva

by ricky on Aug 23, 2009 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions

ricky, you’re thinking the same way as those guys that made the odds… who they’ve fought or not doesn’t matter, they are still the fighters they are if you know what i mean, and you can tell that Thiago is better than Jardine..

by RoBerto on Aug 23, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions

thiagos gunna get ko’d fools. watch all his fights

irvin – thiago gets owned for the brief minute of exchanges than thiago wins by freak fall
drawl – never saw so cant judge on this performance
houston – thiago gets dropped and chokeslammed before taking advantage of the clear ground game difference
mendes( CAN ) – drops thiago badly, and yet again thiago wins with his awesome ground game

jardine did get ko’d by houston but thats becasue he had no footage and had no idea how to deal with him

and thiago is no wanderlei.

the fight will start theyll each throw a few kicks than jardine will clock thiago and get the ko! face it thiagos got a worse chin than jardine

by Jared on Aug 23, 2009 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

well, from what i’ve seen, jardine is better than thiago. thiago’s record is padded. dude almost got taken out by antonio mendez if anyone cares to remember. silva leaves himself too exposed all of the time and in machida, he got caught with it.

and yes, who they’ve fought matters.

by JB on Aug 23, 2009 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions

it isn’t that thiago silva is great, it is that jardine is terrible.

by shamo84 on Aug 23, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions

jared ur smoking crack, silva did’nt get dropped by alexander, he did’nt even tough him..

by guyverbob on Aug 23, 2009 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah, and Jardine has never thrown kicks like the ones Mendes threw at Silva.. It was more that Silva lost his balance from the power of those kicks than he was hurt…
Jardine is terrible, he posseses zero technique and is gonna get tagged standing and when Silva takes him down it’s over!

by RoBerto on Aug 23, 2009 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions

and if you think a fight is decided by who has the best chin then your a walking joke.. Silva has a good chin, the knockout punch Machida landed would have knocked out any fighter in the UFC…

by RoBerto on Aug 23, 2009 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Roberto you’re sounding like a walking joke talking about it doesn’t matter who they’ve fought. So you mean to tell me that fighting top tier fighters doesn’t better prepare you for the next fight than fighting lower-level fighters? How do you figure that? Jardine is not terrible, he’s not great, but he’s no joke.

by Diceman on Aug 23, 2009 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

well Diceman, think of me when he knocks Jardine’s sh!t out this saturday.. how is getting knocked out by top guys gonna improve your game? truth is that Jardine is not a top guy so it doesn’t really matter who he fights… Thiago’s style matches up real well against Jardine’s too!

by RoBerto on Aug 23, 2009 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

just watch and see

by Jared on Aug 23, 2009 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn’t say Jardine was going to win first of all. All I was saying was that who you fight does matter. Anyone with any type of sports IQ knows that going against top competition makes you better at anything that you do, especially fighting. Whether or not that’s enough to carry him over Silva is a different issue. I think it’s a bad matchup for him stylistically, but I still think he’s a good enough fighter to knock someone like Silva off.

by Diceman on Aug 23, 2009 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions

you don’t get knocked out badly in other sports, and the problem with Jardine is that he’s looking the same in every fight…

by RoBerto on Aug 23, 2009 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions

let’s put it this way, the Sacramento Kings starts playing the Lakers every month do they become better?
you make it sound like Thiago’s a newcomer, he’s not and he’s training at a great camp too.

by RoBerto on Aug 23, 2009 11:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with diceman here Rob, your blatant hatred for all things Keith is making you irrational. Keith aint my fave but the guy’s a warrior who is constantly fighting top 5/10 fighters. To dismiss him as “terrible” and having no chance of winning just makes you sound ignorant, which you’re certainly not.

by attakdog on Aug 24, 2009 5:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes RoB, the Kings would definitely get better. Trust me, you don’t get better playing against people you’re better than. You learn the most playing/fighting against people that are as good or better than you. Jardine has done that a LOT more than Silva. Do you really think if the Sacramento Kings played the Memphis Grizzlies every month they would improve as much as if they played the Lakers every month? Surely not. When you’re getting beat up you find out what your weaknesses are and what you need to improve to take your game to the next level. When you’re cruising along against easy competition you don’t have those eye opening experiences.

by Diceman on Aug 24, 2009 11:09 AM EDT up reply actions

There’s a lot of cash to be made on this card. Nog, Thiago, Rosholt, Krystoff and Maia are all worth dropping some bucks on.

TFK

by TFK on Aug 23, 2009 12:21 PM EDT reply actions

Id bet on all the favorites, except Jardine and maybe Vera.

And i can’t help but to laugh at anyone who thinks Maia will sub the Great, Maia will get knocked out harder than Bisping in the first.

by Lester The Pimp on Aug 23, 2009 12:39 PM EDT reply actions

roshholt at +125, uh…yes please.

by day1er on Aug 23, 2009 12:58 PM EDT reply actions

its prob been asked a billion times, but i figure i get legit answer from some of you on here. is betus.com even legit and worth placing bets online?

by heato on Aug 23, 2009 1:12 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah, which website can we go to that accepts people without credit cards[if that’s even possible, mine’s maxxed out]…If not, which are the legit ones that do accept? And how do you guys get your money? Is it cold cash, or just credits?

by Syd on Aug 23, 2009 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Totally not on subject, but saw this this morning and thought, in light of silva wanting to go to HW you guys might like it.

by Sky on Aug 23, 2009 1:19 PM EDT reply actions

Krystoff is good value….I’ll take some of that.

by Rico on Aug 23, 2009 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

I’m going to do a parlay bet on (in order of most likely to win):

Couture
Brandon Vera
Gonzaga
Nate
Jardine
Rosholt

And another parlay bet on safer, fewer bets.

Jardine will most likely take the fight by decision. Rosholt has a chance to do the same thing (using his superior wrestling) as long as he stays sharp and away from Leben’s big shots (and doesn’t get sloppy and right into a submission).

by Xad on Aug 23, 2009 2:18 PM EDT reply actions

it may not be a high profile fight, but people should be getting some money on justin mccully. that’ll be a great pay day for whoever puts it out there.

by JB on Aug 23, 2009 2:51 PM EDT reply actions

i think alot of the marquardt supporters here might be surprised that maia could win that fight but i wouldnt be. his bjj is top notch, even nates pancrase experience and good wrestling could fall victim to it. that being said i think nate as the favourite is correct, he should win but i think its like 60/40. so i will be parlaying a card that looks somethin like Sozynski or however its spelled, Maia and Thiago. from a trying to make money standpoint that makes a lot of sense.

by JakeAnd on Aug 23, 2009 3:09 PM EDT reply actions

can someone explain the betting lines to me. i dont knw how they work. is -180 a huge favorite or not that much.

by djhbv23 on Aug 23, 2009 3:17 PM EDT reply actions

180 is a slight above average favourite. average is around
-150 id say and anything like -350 is a huge favourite. some fights like gsp vs matt serra was like -650 or -700 for gsp if im remembering correctly.

by JakeAnd on Aug 23, 2009 3:20 PM EDT reply actions

You’re going to do a parlay bet on 3 underdogs? Even though you think Nate’s going to win?

Vera’s coming in with his new(old) kill mentality, nate’s not getting subbed, nor is the fight going to go to the ground unless nate wants it there and Thiago has a chance to win, however, i think Jardine will be looking to outpoint him and get the decision whereas Thiago will always try to attack even if it means getting hit.

Should be interesting come fight day as i’m going with the complete opposite to you, lol.

Don’t mean to brag (well kind of) but i won $4000 on my ufc 101 parlay bet of $400. Not that that means anything here, i mean it is mma, so who the heck knows what’s really going to happen.

by Xad on Aug 23, 2009 4:06 PM EDT reply actions

I agree about Jardine. I think he’s going to back pedal the whole fight and counter. If Thiago hasn’t learned his lesson from his Machida fight there’s a good chance he’ll get out pointed or KO’d. Thiago is a great fighter but his style puts him at risk, especially against someone who’s playing off it.

by H.I. McDunnough on Aug 23, 2009 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions

i know whats going to happen. nogs standup is crap and couture is going to out point him or even tko, he wont be dumb and get caught in a sub. if the houston and wandy fights show us anything its jardine cant handle power punchers who push the pace, thiago by lots of pain. and pure jits guys have no place anymore in the ufc because everyone at least trains in defending it or avoiding it, nate by destruction. i think vera, even as a pacafist can at least outpoint krystof and is too good on the ground to get put in krystofs super kimura.

by Egads on Aug 23, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Marquardt’s fighting Nog?!?!? Oh I get it. You did such a great job formatting that I got a little confused….

by Youtaped on Aug 23, 2009 7:12 PM EDT reply actions

Looks like good value on Nog at 1st glance but in reality he only has one way to win, that being to hurt Randy on the feet and try to get a stoppage from GnP or a sub if Randy is really hurt. Randy owns every other advantage and every other scenario. His sub defense is too good to jsut get tapped from straight grappling. I dont like Roshalt cause his stand up defense is/was so bad and he may not have the stamina to go 3 hard rounds with Leben. Maia/marquardt is impossible to forsee as is Krsz/ Vera . I did throw down on Thiago early cause it was +185 a couple months ago. I like A-train. He’s so fast amd better everywhere than Herman. I like Couture for reasons already said and I think Leben can use his power and veteran skills to whip up on Roshalt. Oh and I like Russow (NOT Russo as is listed above) So how about a Russow,Leben,A-train, and Couture parlay?

by naturalist on Aug 23, 2009 8:57 PM EDT reply actions

Nogueira YAAAAaaaaawwwwwn ZZZzzzzzz. I’ve paid for every UFC fight for 3 years and here’s finally a card that doesn’t excite me. Is Dana White making a big mistake with the next two events that have no championship fight? Do we now pay for cards with no championship fight? I’m not. Nogueira basically lost to Tim Sylivia, basically lost to Shogun, and then Lost horribly to Mir. Why would I pay Yaaawn to see Nogueira fight? He got lucky with Tim Sylvia who was kicking his ass like a baby, and Shogun foolishly gave the fight away when he had him already knocked out. Nogueira is washed up and Couture is going to make easy work of him. It will be lucky if it makes it to the second round. And Jardine’s needs to shave that goatie so that the crowd can at least look at him seriously. Maybe Houston Alexander can shave it off for him.

by Mike on Aug 23, 2009 9:26 PM EDT reply actions

wow i never know nog fought shogun what event was that?? sounds like your describing the herring fight to me but hey anyone who opens his cooment with such a fancy yawn must be right

by rylie on Aug 24, 2009 1:43 AM EDT reply actions

Krzysztof Soszynski and Tim Hague… these I’ll bet on!
