Sengoku 10: Antonio Silva possible for Sept. 23 return against Ron Sparks

It has been several weeks since the World Victory Road officials have named Antonio Silva as one of the participants in Sengoku 10. Now, the undefeated super-heavyweight prospect, Ron Sparks, has surfaced as his potential opponent, according to FiveKnuckles.com.
The announcement of Silva-Sparks comes at the heel of the confirmation of a series of bouts slated for Sengoku 10 that feature Nick Thompson, Ryan Schultz, and Dan Hornbuckle amongst others.
Sengoku 10 will take place on September 23 at the Saitama Community Arena in Saitama, Japan. It will air on HDNet in North America and is expected to see the MMA debut of 2004 Olympic judo silver medalist Hiroshi Izumi.
Silva last fought at Sengoku No Ran 2009 in January against Yoshihiro "Kiss" Nakao. The bout ended in an anticlimactic fashion as Nakao injured his knees in the first round, earning Silva a victory via TKO.
He is currently on a five-fight winning streak during which he captured the heavyweight title in now defunct Elite XC by defeating Justin Eilers in July 2008. His record stands at 12-1 and boasts ten wins via KO or TKO.
Ron Sparks, who fights out of Louisville, KY, is a super-heavyweight prospect with 5-0 record. He will be stepping down to the heavyweight division for the first time when he faces Silva. He has recently defeated a veteran fighter, Johnathan Ivey by unanimous decision in a Revolution Fighting League event in Hammond, IN.
He was also scheduled to fight tonight, August 22, against TC Shaw at a Vyper Fight League event in Louisville, KY. However, the event has been canceled due to Shaw's last-minute withdrawal.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com as more bouts for Sengoku 10 become finalized in the coming weeks.

I think Big foot might take the prize for the most disturbing looking son of a b*tch in all of MMA. He looks like King Kong.

Too bad this guy didn’t end up in the UFC. He would’ve shaken things up a bit! In the HW division, at least. Exactly what is his status as far as his suspension goes? Anyone know?

His suspension was suppose to be until July 09 if I’m not mistaken! He still have a fight 1 fight for Sengoku and then don’t be surprise to see him go to Strikeforce or Dream. It would be awesome if he comes to the UFC though. I believe that he can put a beating on Fedor for sure.

Don’t coumt on it. I’m pretty sure that he violated the terms of his steriod suspension. He competed in Japan while still on suspension and will most likely not be relicenced.

silva is like smith in brazil, and since there are lots of brazilians that fight then there are going to be a lot of fighters named silva

But why aren’t there a lot of Smiths in MMA for that matter, considering that most major promotions hold their shows in the northern part of America?

I dont know, hes really big but super slow. The UFC HW’s are getting faster and faster with size. He may do ok, but I don’t see him winning any big fights.
by Cantrim on Aug 23, 2009 6:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
UFC should get bigfoot. Skillwise I believe he is right now a top 10 hw. One word for Sparks at Sengoku 10-PAIN.

I think Sparks is gonna win Silva didnt look very good against Ricco, and I dont think he will take sparks serious. I would like to see a big ol country boy make a splash in the heavyweight divison. How awesome would him and Roy nelson in the commentator booth be. They couldn’t possibly do worse than goldie could they.
