Strikeforce Challengers: Tim Kennedy vs Zak Cummings set with Evangelista 'Cyborg' Santos scratched

Tim Kennedy will meet Zak Cummings in a featured middleweight bout at the next Strikeforce Challengers event at the SpiritBank Event Center in Tulsa, Okla., on Sept. 25.

Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos was originally scheduled to take on Kennedy; however, a knee injury sustained in training forced the Brazilian out of the main event. The promotion today confirmed that the Kennedy-Cummings will still headline the show.

Kennedy recently opened up several eyes with a dominant performance in his most recent appearance, stopping Nick "The Goat" Thompson via second round technical knockout back in June. It was his second consecutive win for the Army veteran since losing to Jason Miller via unanimous decision at HDNet Fights: "Reckless Abandon" in Dec. 2007.

He'll look to make three in a row against Cummings, and in the process, snap the undefeated fighter's perfect 10-fight tear.

Cummings is perhaps best known for his split decision upset win over UFC veteran Terry Martin at XCF: "Rumble in Racetown" earlier this year. He most recently punched out Dominic Brown in the first round at an FM Productions event in Missouri three months ago.

Strikeforce Challengers is a proving ground for up-and-coming MMA fighters. The series is designed to provide today’s top prospects with the opportunity to step-up their level of competition and demonstrate their ability in a nationally televised event.

This event is slated to begin on Showtime at 11 p.m. ET (tape delayed on the west coast) on fight night.

You will know who cummings is after this fight. Ive seen him in two fights. This guy is smart, quick ,and strong as a bull. He seems to always be replacing someone at the last minute fights and wins. I think a better name for him would be the REPLACEMENT KILLER.
