nate better be training alot of tdd, from shoots to pulling guard!

maia is very dangerous, and usually has no problem getting the fight down to his world..

when the fight hits the mat~
i give nate 30 seconds[max] and maia will have him tapping..

that is unless nate can get a quick ko before they hit the ground~

i got maia via 1st round sub~

by stinky~fingers on Aug 19, 2009 7:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Stink, I really dont see this great jits that everybody is talking about from Maia. He had Mcdonald in a few subs and was having trouble finishing him. I think the only reason Maia is being hyped is cause hes training with Wandy. Nate is going to dominate Maia, and if it does get to the ground, Nate has enough defence to stay out of subs.

by JV on Aug 19, 2009 7:45 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

demian maia has the sickest ground game in there at the moment, i would l;ove tyo see him and vinnie from TUF
Did ifc release him ? sorta rings a bell

by apex103 on Aug 19, 2009 7:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is what i’ve been saying!! He had McDonald on the ground for a very long time but could not finish him quickly. Nate is bigger, a much better striker and is also a black belt in bjj i believe. I think Nate is skilled enough to keep this on the feet and out-strike him. Maia might just get exposed in this fight. Only fighters like Jacare would have other fighters tapping in 30 seconds!

by Silva_Rampage on Aug 19, 2009 7:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Should be a good test for both fighters the winner should earn the next chance after Henderson.

by Puck Head on Aug 19, 2009 5:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Unless he is eating an upkick by Mousasi…

by The Negation on Aug 19, 2009 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is what i’ve been saying. Nate is VERY strong for middleweight and if Maia struggled 2submit McDonald, he will have fits with Nate!! Nate will likely keep this standing and expose his low-level striking.

by Silva_Rampage on Aug 19, 2009 7:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

the reason everybody is talking about his “great jits” is because he has 10 pro fights with 8 sub victories!

the man will straight up pull gaurd to go to the ground..

i definitely think nate has a chance of winning via tko or something.. he would have to hurt or ko maia standing cause nate won’t want to be on the ground..

by stinky~fingers on Aug 19, 2009 7:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dude you’re dreaming, Nate said it Monday night that he don’t give a flying f@ck of Maia ground game.

by Alpha Male on Aug 19, 2009 8:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Silva Rampage. Agree Nate is a beast at that weight & will be hard to take down. In any way this is gonna be an awsome fight.

by neeko on Aug 19, 2009 8:05 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maia is a world-class bjj player and that’s about it he’s not a good fighter and Nate is gonna force him to fight in this one..

by RoB on Aug 19, 2009 10:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

sorry if its a stupid question, but is nate still training at jackson’s camp?

by an 8yr old boy on Aug 19, 2009 12:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yes.

by DSmith on Aug 19, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maia would strangle blackbelts, so the king of Pancrase won’t be a problem. Maia by strangulation! This is one of the most intriguing match-ups in the card, besides the Couture-Nogueira battle of course. We pretty much know what to expect with the Jardine-Silva match, blood!!

by The Negation on Aug 19, 2009 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with JV, JMac was able to survived on the ground with Maia, so I don’t see Nate getting tap in 30 sec. The proof that Nate doesn’t care of Maia BJJ is that he already confirmed his place at ADCC in Barcelona.

by Alpha Male on Aug 19, 2009 7:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

jmac has better jj defense and jj in general than nate does..

jmac is also quicker~

by stinky~fingers on Aug 19, 2009 8:04 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

C’mon Stink, you cant be serious, Jmac… really?

by Alpha Male on Aug 19, 2009 8:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

and 30 seconds might be over exaggerating~

but if it goes to the ground it shouldn’t take too long for maia to tie him up~

by stinky~fingers on Aug 19, 2009 8:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

alpha~ if we’re talking better jj in an mma fight, then yes!~ for sure!!

by stinky~fingers on Aug 19, 2009 8:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow, if you say so stink… I don’t see it the same way. Don’t forget that Nate was king of Pancrase while Jmac was Queen of Alberta. Nate is a more accomplish BJJ game than Jmac, for sure!

by Alpha Male on Aug 19, 2009 8:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

"" Don’t forget that Nate was king of Pancrase while Jmac was Queen of Alberta.""

LMSAO!, alright u have convinced me!

but i do think they both have good mma jj..

by stinky~fingers on Aug 19, 2009 8:31 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That is hilarious alpha.

by James S on Aug 19, 2009 9:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with JV, when I see an impressive sub, I will be convinced. I still think Nate will take this one by GnP.

by neeko on Aug 19, 2009 8:03 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree with Stink. It does really matter if Nate is scared of Maia or not. Not being scared isn’t going to keep him out of a sub. Nate better hope for a quick ko, otherwise he will be tapping by the end of round 2.

by Cole on Aug 19, 2009 9:15 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am thinking the same as you JV. Ricardo almeida was getting this same hype about his jits and how he was going to be the biggest challenge for A Silva and it never panned out. Granted, maia’s jits is top notch, so far he has only beaten some mid tier guys. Very interested to see how this fight goes. It will be the real coming out party for Maia, or the end of the hype. This is the most exciting fight of this card for me.

by James S on Aug 19, 2009 9:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

JV: you have said some really stupid things in the past, but that might have been one of the worst posts that I have ever read on this site…TO make it worst, you are a regular that has been watching mma for a while….what the Fock is wrong with you dude?

Get your eyes checked, or head examined, cause there is something seriously wrong with you.

Since Maia doesnt have great Jits, I would like to hear who does in your twisted opinion! at first I used to just think you were a CAREER-LONG Hater, but I hate to say it…now I am starting to think that you are just dumb!

I dont blog as much as I used to, I dont have the time anymore….so I dont like to waste what few time I have to blog responding to idiots or attacking them personally, but I just couldnt over look that RETARDED statement!

JV, I guess not everyone can have Forrest griffin type jits. LMAo! Being naturally dumb, and having hate in your blood is a terrible combo….and unfortunately for you JV, those arent things that you can just change overnight,.

I feel for you man! I really do!

by john G on Aug 19, 2009 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

People are acting like Maia’s jits is undefensable. If the fight hits the ground it’s over, and blah, blah, blah. I think what JV is getting at is it’s not a given that he is going to finish the fight once it’s in “his world”. Nate is no slouch w/ submission and take down defense. Maia is going to get torn up and it will make him better. He’s not well rounded yet.

by LJ on Aug 19, 2009 1:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Marquardt won’t have any problems with Maia on the ground…if it makes to the ground. Nate has way more MMA experience, far superior striking, great sub defense and if Maia doesn’t watch out Nate could sub him. Nate wins this by second round TKO with Maia in the fetal position and Nate standing over him dropping bombs.

by Gurthee on Aug 19, 2009 9:08 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i also think mcdonald has sick jitsu

by apex103 on Aug 19, 2009 7:49 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Loser of this gets Bisping and possible the winner fights Silva as a main event in Manchester with Bisping being co-main event. I hope and predict Maia gets a beating and then fights Mike who he called out many times remember.

by Tony on Aug 19, 2009 8:11 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hendo already has the next shot at Anderson. I have Maia via sub not sure which round. Winner of this fight will have the winner of that fight or maybe a fight with Vitor after he beats rich franklin. Maia jits is off the chain

by ralphie on Aug 19, 2009 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I laugh at all you tools who think Nate will be submitted … do not get my wrong, I love Maia and his subs but Marquardt is on another level when it comes to MMA … I see Nate knocking Maia out with a huge knee in the first or wearing Maia down and winning by TKO late in second.

by DownUnder on Aug 19, 2009 8:23 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nate definately has really good sub defense…i mean look at his fight with Thales Leites! 2be honest, considering the camp Nate is coming from, i anticipate a flawless gameplan that ends in Demina Maia getting his head knocked back! Anyone remember the crazy combo he unleashed on Wilson Gouveia at the end of their fight?? Shit looked straight out of a video game!

by Silva_Rampage on Aug 19, 2009 8:46 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

maia tooled sonen who has a lot of mma sub defense experience (fihlo’s bjj isn’t to shabby). maia is evolving into a great mma jj guy and i will be surprised if this goes the distance without a sub by maia or a tko by marquardt.

by kneetotheface on Aug 19, 2009 8:48 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

agreed. i don’t think it will last 15min~

by stinky~fingers on Aug 19, 2009 8:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

sonnen has no sub defense. granted he’s a great wrestler, but he has nooo sub defense, that or just chooses not to use it. nate may not be as technical a wrestler, but he makes up for that with being a great jj guy himself being strong as anyone in that devision, having at least decent wrestling, and on top of that is an amazing striker. marquardt by tko second round

by connor on Aug 19, 2009 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

kneetotheface he completely stayed away from filhos ground game, and that was the second fight, first one he was tapping. most of his other losses are from subs, nate is on a whole other level in terms of sub defense

Maia by sup in the 1st 2nd or 3rd!
beleeeede dat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

What’s a sup? Are you referring to a suplex, offensive move used in wrestling?

by Alpha Male on Aug 19, 2009 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

HAHAHA – yeah those SUP’s are real sweet LOL

by DownUnder on Aug 19, 2009 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ALL MAIA!! the only guy capable of beating SILVA- by sub in the 1st.

by MMAKILLA on Aug 19, 2009 9:18 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Who do u guys think has better BJJ, Jacare or Maia??? i think Jacare…am i right?

by Silva_Rampage on Aug 19, 2009 9:20 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That’s a tough call, I was hoping to have the answer in September but now b/c of his contract with Strikeforce we wont have the conclusion on this question.

by Alpha Male on Aug 19, 2009 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well now, is it really a surprise that a man who fought Anderson Silva, a guy that can kill you @ any chosen moment, and he’s not scared of maia?

Not a stretch to me. I’d much rather risk getting sub’d then ktfo!!!

by Daniel worby on Aug 19, 2009 10:07 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Great guy, great fighter. I definitely feel that he should get a rematch with Anderson if he wins this fight. His win over Willy G. was very impressive. I’m very surprised that the UFC has not announced the Henderson/Silva fight. I was hoping that the fight would happen fairly quickly seeing as how both guys came out so fresh from their last fight. If Machida defeats Shogun there really isn’t a solid fight at light heavyweight for Anderson seeing as how Rashaad and Rampage are scheduled to fight.
Also, I still laugh my ass off at the last mma live when Rashaad did the impersonation of his mother about Anderson. She told him “Rashaad, Anderson is a beast. If the UFC tells you to fight him you tell them no Rashaad.” That was friggin hilarious.

Nate will do plenty of damage when he is on top, but sooner or later, I think Maia will flip Nate, get on top and then it will be over. Besides, isn’t Demain the son of Lucifer?

I’m going Nate the great. But still think Spider untangles him when it comes time.

UMM UFC 102’s card is stacked …..gonna be a good night of fights. Jardine is never boring, two legends fighting , and then this fight!

Nate’s standup is a ton better than Maia’s ….but when it gets to the ground, you gotta give Maia the advantage. Although they are both black belts, I think a black belt from Brazil holds more weight.

Either Nate via TKO or Maia via armbar (I cant see nate getting choked or caught in a triangle)

by robbyc on Aug 19, 2009 11:01 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

oh, yay. what another exciting fight to be determined once again by size, and not skill.

maia will fight at 185ish like the division allows.

marquardt will fight at around 205 because, well that’s apparently how you win fights these days.

just ask georges if he would have beat BJ at 155, or ask lesnar if he would have beat mir at 255.

by callin the shots on Aug 19, 2009 11:11 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Now we are knocking fighters for their ability to cut/make weight? That makes no sense at all. Let Damian try to make 170 then. That being said, BJ Penn, lb for lb is as good as GSP and I’m not even a fan of his.

by Adam T. on Aug 19, 2009 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

nor should he be scared of maia. If your scared going in the fight you already lost. it’s great he has that mindset that even if he gets taken down he has good enough jitz to whether the storm or even submit him. Marquardt is one of the few all around great fighters. he’s a great wrestler, has good submission skills, and can stand with anybody. so i can’t wait for this fight. im startin college in a week so i have to meet new people to watch these fights with lol bit mma maniacs are pretty easy to find and get along with so i won’t have any trouble at all with joining the jui jitsu club and everytihng so can’t wait!

by hamsterwheel on Aug 19, 2009 11:47 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Nate is the second best MW in the world, IMO. He’s a giant for the weight class, is good everywhere the fight can go and trains with the best camp in the world. Maia is gonna be at a huge disadvantage standing and Nate is gonna be very, very difficult to take down.

Maia does have a chance at winning because his jits is second to none. It might come from Nate taking him down for some GnP and making a split second mistake that Maia capitalizes on. I like both guys, so this is a win win fight, but I think Nate has a better chance at taking it to Silva.

I think Nate is the only guy with a complete enough game to trouble Silva. Hendo, despite his power, is too easy for Silva to dismantle on his feet because he just stalks with that big right hand. Nate’s got an all around striking game. Hendo has a great clinch takedown, but like last fight, I don’t see him doing much on the ground.

I give Maia about a 15% chance of pulling this fight out. If he does, more power to him, but this is Nate’s fight to lose.

by revjames13 on Aug 19, 2009 4:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

nates fight to lose??

by hamsterwheel on Aug 19, 2009 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That means that he should win if he fights his fight and doesn’t make any bonehead mistakes, ie: as long as he doesn’t f-up he wins.

by revjames13 on Aug 19, 2009 5:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

For some reason I would love to see maia knocked out cold stiff on the canvas for some reason. I think he has the best MMA bjj I’ve seen yet, and hes fun to watch but for some reason I don’t like his personality, and just want to see him sprawled out on the canvas.
