Strikeforce paydays and salaries for 'Carano vs Cyborg'

MMAmania.com (www.mmamania.com) has received the fighter payouts for Strikeforce: "Carano vs. Cyborg" from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) for the Showtime event held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, on August 15.
Gina Carano was the big earner of the night. Despite getting stopped by Cristiane Santos in the first round of their main event bout, "Conviction" banked a cool $125,000 for her efforts.
Her opponent, "Cyborg," took home $25,000 and female bragging rights.
Gegard Mousasi matched Isaiah Hill and Zak Bucia as the lowest earner of the event. Despite handily defeating well-known veteran Renato Sobral in just 60 seconds, "The Dreamcatcher" banked a mere $2,000 for his efforts. Pittance by today's standards.
Expect that level of compensation to increase exponentially after last Saturday's performance.
Here are all the Strikeforce: "Carano vs. Cyborg" payouts:
Cristiane Santos: $25,000 (includes $5,000 win bonus)
Gina Carano: $125,000

Keep in mind the salaries listed above do not include fight bonuses, sponsorships, percentages and other unofficial payments. It also does not include deductions for expenses such as insurance, taxes, etc.
The total base fighter payroll for the event was $468,500. 13,976 spectators packed the HP Pavilion for an approximate live gate of $735,710.

I double and triple checked with the commission — 2k for Mousasi. But there was likely a compensation deal already in place from M-1 heading into the Affliction bout.

So much for hoping that Mousasi’s next opponent would be Lil Nog – he just signed with the UFC.
In my opinion, that is a pretty weak addition to the UFC LHW division, especially when compared to the impact he would have had on the Strikeforce LHW roster.

Must be apart of the Fedor rules the world plan. What’s he getting paid for that exhibition fight with Fedor? 2 goats and bag of rice? Good thing he didn’t sign with the UFC-they don’t treat their fighters right.
:/

Come on guys, are you kidding me. You guys actually think he’s gettin paid $2000. His affliction contract alone was $80/$80 which dana and joe silva said they would honor if he came over. He’s definitely the highest paid guy on the card.

Well, I’m just gonna assume that Mousasi made a fortune off M-1 even though I haven’t seen any #‘s besides the 2k there and have no idea; but the UFC offered Fedor a crap deal for sure; must have been peanuts by comparison (even tho I didn’t see any actual #‘s there either.) I’m not bias at all.
by O damn he got caught on Aug 18, 2009 2:34 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
M-1 probably took in about $2 million for their co-promotion efforts. Minus all the expenses they put up, that leaves them with $2 million. So Mousasi should get his chunk out of that.

well if she sign a multi deal contract she will prob get that for every one of those fights she signed for thats great for her, no wonder she took a little longer to sign she was negotiating the best deal, I mean she deserves it having to to fight wandi in a wig, at least she did better than Jardine against him

well that was a big match up for the women’s division, and as many people have said on here, after that fight, who is left for these two girls? not really any big match ups that will generate as much interest as this one did, thats why im thinking her pay goes down after this fight
by brendan on Aug 18, 2009 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

125K for a sloppy women fight is ridiculous.

The dudes on the under card are making more Mosassi? That is the saddest pay I’ve ever seen. He would have done better in some exhibition in the midwest. No wonder he was so ‘nonchalant’. I wouldn’t give a shit either.

by brendan on Aug 18, 2009 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Its pretty obvious considering the demise of Affliction that they probably already paid his salary as that fight was due to go ahead on the Affliction 3 card and had obligations to pay him anyway.
If you think he would fight at the highest levels in the USA (outside of the USA) for a title for only $2000 then you gotta be dumb.
by Ca$z on Aug 18, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That is shocking, Gegard leave M-1 now. Anybody who complains about what the UFC pays its fighters has lost all credibility, it is a disgrace that a world-class fighter was only paid $2,000. Sickening to be honest. He better have been given a lot more by M-1 but man that is still a dreadful payout.

by Ca$z on Aug 18, 2009 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not one to complain about fighter salaries, but Mousasi is grossly underpaid. His manager should be fired. I suspect he’ll be getting a significant raise soon enough, but $2,500 for a title bout is pretty paltry.
by HamishCampbell on Aug 18, 2009 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Isn’t mousasi coming to the UFC? Isn’t he only contractually obligated for one or two more fights?
by StuckinMod(FormerlyFedorfightscans,Sp00ner1234) on Aug 18, 2009 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
most likely moussasi was paid by affliction or even dream. everyone knows he made at least 50K for this fight. I wouldnt be suprised if his total purse for the fight broke $100K. Dana would probably start him out at $60/$60 in the UFC.

they don’t? I know fighters who get paid to train at the gym (and bring in clients), the sponsors pay them. It’s like people that get paid bi weekly or once a month (real jobs), it’s called a budget. What!?!? I hope there’s a good reason for this pitiful payout.
I’m guessing that M-1 Global is the big winner in Mousasi’s contract. But I bet they made him a 5% partner in M-1 for his trouble.

Dear Kevin,
Clearly the internet is to much for you. Please stop talking and reading bullshit.
It’s M-1 that pays Gegard Mousasi. (and Strikeforce that pays M-1) The 2K is just a formality because of the Athletic Commission. Anybody who does not see that is a complete retard.

Gegard must have had some sort of lucrative signing bonus – that’s where the real $ would be. The fact that he was paid only $2k for working the card obviously means there’s monies that were not reported to the athletic commission.

GM actually made between $60,000-80,000. M1 pays him not strikeforce. They have to show some kind of payment for tax purposes hence the $2000. Im not gonna bash anybody that didnt know that, but anybody that knows anything about mma or M1 at that should have known he made more. Hopefully he’s in the UFC when his contract w M1 runs out.

If you look at Cyborg’s face during the interview afterwords, she didn’t look happy or joyous like a women who won. Kinda like a regretful look in her face. I wonder why. Watch it again for yourself and see.

Yep, I believe Mousasi did get some more income from M-1 or whatever.
Anyway I don’t really understand how could somebody say Gina didn’t deserve the 125k.
“Maybe” the reasons aren’t 100% correlated with technical value, but no doubt many casual fans were brought by Carano and hadn’t even eard before of Mousasi or Werdum (let alone the others). Like it or not, it’s just how business works.
I’d be curious to see what kind of numbers of viewers Strikeforce could get in an event without Carano nor Fedor.
