i was kinda tired to hear all this talk about gina is the best and this and that.. cyborg just beat her and thats how everyone who doesn’t want to F#$k gina predidcted this.. cyborg will not be beatin’ for a while as long as she doesn’t relive she is a he!

This fight makes no sense. Marloes is great but she’s coming off of a loss. Nobody else knows her either, she needs to be built up on TV. Toughill needs to get the first crack, hell they had her on reserve in case one of the girls didn’t make weight. Very low Coker!

Well with all the other shit that went wrong with this card i don’t blame him for having a plan B.

Sorry but they need to keep the beauty and the beast fight to keep the interest of fans. This new chick is beautful but she will probably lose as well. This only further shows how weak womens MMA truly is. For everyone who watched Gina gas after two minutes and how sloppy both women fought they know its a complete joke. I will tell you how every single womens MMA match goes down. Onc chick punchs the hell out of another chicks face while she turtles up cause she doesn’t know what its like to get punched in the face like that. This was the closest thing to an even match that Womens MMA will ever come up with.

Proof that you’re wrong about every women’s bout being a mismatch and not technical:

I can give 5 of these for every sloppy women’s fight you can name.

Good well Carano and Cyborg alone I can give you ten sloppy fights. and after I look up the cans they fought I can find you another 20 sloppy fights. Good luck trying to find me 100 good womens mma fights. Not to mention your just going to give me wrestling matches anyway. When in a match if one woman starts throwing punches the other woman turns sideways or throws a leg up and her hands in front her, its pretty pathetic. Whatever though, you continue to watch womens MMA and because its usually a pretty safe bet. Always bet on the power houses, because women can’t take getting punched in the face. Your first video is the only one I could watch and it was neat none the less but look up both of those women and you’d be suprised that they don’t normally fight like that. Why? because they felt safe knowing niether had true KO potential and they could just do a submission clinic without getting riled in the face.

Gina was an underdog on LV betting, I don’t think people thought she was the best, just the best woman to have an MMA spotlight on… she was/is the one to bring the spotlight to woman’s MMA, Cyborg is the one to beat… she’ll draw attention now, not as big as Gina, but definitely an known name.

cyborg did fight guys in brazil. she went 3-1

if they can come up with 1 good womens match on every mma ppv card….it will increase this sport perhaps 30% world wide!! Especially with classy Women like Carano and Coenen!!!

i think they’re gonna keep making matchups of pretty girls vs not so pretty ones to keep people interested. Or at least until haters see that there is no such thing as Women’s MMA. It’s not a different sport. It’s all MMA and there is no reason to hate on the females.
by NameNotRequired on Aug 16, 2009 4:10 PM EDT up reply actions
Then let them fight with males, if they need a different division all together there is a difference. First ever 5 round 5 minute fight for a womens title and Gina gases in under three minutes, so weak.

lol, you would be. a fan of sloppy shitty fights where a woman gives up the most dominant position to stand when she was clearly getting dominated on the feet! What exactly is to like about women’s ma? I can’t find a thing. Gina “the face of women’s mma” gave up and quit 45 seconds into the fight
by kevin on Aug 16, 2009 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Dude you just fricken sound sexes. That fight wasnt anywhere near shitty and a whole lot more exciting then some fights i even seen in the UfC.I think Gina probably was a little suprised by Cyborgs strength and how relentless she was but i think all in all it was a very exciting bout that i wouldnt mind seeing a rematch to.Cyborg was super aggressive but i think Gina would be prepared for that next time and that fight would go a lil longer if Gina doesnt find away to take it to the ground and finish with strikes. She had Cyborg in trouble a few times and during some of the takedowns she got some good reversals to ground to position.

1) You can’t bring up sloppy women’s fights while posting anything ever about marcus davis, chris lytle, huggie bear guida, etc… There are dozens of $hitty men fighters taht don’t deserve card space in the UFC but i don’t see you complaining. I don’t know if this might shock and blow you away but just as with men, women can have crappy fights too.
2) Just like with men if you wanna see technical fights there are dozens of women’s MMA bouts that would match any excellent men’s bout that wasn’t about standing and banging. You just have to find out who the great women fighters are and which fights to watch.
3) This was a mismatch for anyone with any sense or who knows anything about the women in MMA but still I found this better than for example forrest-silva because everyone who wasn’t delusional knew that it was a murder being set up. Here gina had a better shot than forrest.

absolutely there are sloppy boring mens fights, what do they have to do with the topic at hand? Yes, I complain about them too! How is me commenting my OPINION on yesterdays fight sexist? I heard the Hieron/jt money fight was a snoozer too, I haven’t seen it yet, but when/if I do, I’ll say the truth about what I thought.
The Legacy, you would want to see a rematch of that fight? It was a total mismatch, and Gina quit in the first minute, what would be different in a rematch?
One thing I did notice, Cyborg (compared to the first time we saw her) is a lot less muscular, I’m assuming off the juice.
Some of you guys crack me up, so let me get this straight, because itt was two women fighting, I’m supposed to keep my opinions to myself (for fear of being called sexist)?
Leites/Sakara was a sloppy boring fight, but it’s ok for me to say that?
Gina had full, tight mount and she stood up… what was she thinking?
by kevin on Aug 16, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s not about the comment but the fact people try to base the entire sport on one fight. You said you can’t seem to find what’s to like about women’s MMA. The same can be said about men’s fights using the same criteria that you used to judge.
Throwing around juicing comments without any proof other than what you “notice.” I’ve seen her fighting ever since she was double kneebarred in her first fight and she seemed bigger than before for this fight.
Gina didn’t stand up. Cyborg rolled to her side and back into half guard after locking up gina’s right leg. Once she lost mount then she bailed which was a good move. I am disappointed because i know you’ve watched enough MMA to be able to notice that.
by NameNotRequired on Aug 16, 2009 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions
she wasn’t thinking.. women aren’t supposed to fight, it almost brings tear to my eyes seeing a woman get busted up like that.. Gina was manhandled by a woman
by RoBerto on Aug 16, 2009 10:15 PM EDT up reply actions
“What’s exactly is to like about women’s MMA? not a thing” That’s pretty accurate, for an MMA purist. That’s not exactly a vision of what/where women’s MMA could be 10 yrs from now. Remember where Men’s UFC was in the 90’s? Women haven’t been raised on MMA, but they will be in time and u will eventually see skill/power/courage that will be impressive, for now it’s a sloppy cat fight, much like sloppy fighting for men in the early years. I guess I’m sexist, because I don’t expect women’s MMA to be where men’s MMA is currently at, but I like what I see so far, Cyborg is the woman to beat… bring on Tara Larosa!!
by THORAZINE on Aug 17, 2009 1:56 AM EDT up reply actions
Thorazine, you should check out the links i posted up above once it gets out of moderation. You seem to be open minded about this whole “women fighting” thing. You’ll definitely see that high level women are the same as high level men. I’ve gotten to see some incredible performances for sure.
For some reason this topic bugs me a lot because this is pretty much what MMA was dealing with in the early 90s from uneducated people but this time it’s from people who supposedly know and love the sport. If your problem is that you don’t like women in combat sports then fine but don’t claim that it’s this or that and completely different than men.
by NameNotRequired on Aug 17, 2009 2:30 AM EDT up reply actions
It is completely different than mens, man why do you keep trying to say we are the same. I’m starting to think your a women who wants equal pay but more rights. Its ridiculous to think that Gina and Cyborg are considered the top two womens fighters but niether were really that impressive. Cyborg was dominating Gina from beggining to end. The only time she really put herself in danger was when she kept trying to hip toss Gina and Gina just rode her to the ground. All the sloppy fighters you named off can handle fighting sloppy because they have jaws made of steel. I’m telling you flat out right now if a womens fight makes it past 3 rounds we will se the ugliest slowest fight in the world when two gassed out women don’t know what to do because they’ve never trained past 9 minutes.

NNR, I’m open to women’s MMA… I was an ex-wrestler that was away from wrestling for a long time until my nephew entered the sport and I became a part-time coach in wrestling. Girls wrestling? I was a disbeliever, until I had the opportunity to coach a few that were giving it their heart n’ soul. When female wrestlers begin entering MMA you’ll see a whole new level of conditioning and spirit. What male wrestlers dedication did for MMA so will female wrestlers.
by THORAZINE on Aug 17, 2009 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions
I watched the video’s that was pretty good at making your point NNR. I think the transition from grapplers working to learn standup and standupfighters working to learn grappling is a transition that will take a few yrs of growth, it’ll happen, for right now I think we’re only going to see small groups of women fighting in StrikeForce as this transition takes place… right now they seem to be focusing on standup fighters.. Coenen, is just another pretty face to keep the Gina formula working, to match up with the beast Cyborg… Coenen will get demolished.
by THORAZINE on Aug 17, 2009 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions
Thank you for at least peepin the vids Thorazine. You can clearly see the intracacies what needs improvement but as far as ground work and technical abilities, you just don’t see that dynamism that often with men. Only high level BJJ guys yet these 120lbs japanese women seem to roll like it’s the end of the world. As far as Coenen i think she has a shot simply because of her grappling talent and size. She’s been in this thing for a decade so experience and number of fights go to her for sure. However if she can’t get TDs then she’s goin to burn herself out trying to get the fight to the floor and get murdered.

Noone is going to care about female MMA moving forward. vaGina was the poster girl, and she got flattened. I don’t really care to see that freak or nature (and science I have a feeling…).
This was the one fight that everyone was excited about. I’m sure there are tougher fights out there for Cyborg, but noone cares.

That MMA interviewer always bothers me, not sure why. I was at the HP Pavilion Center for the Strikeforce event and I was definitely impressed by the excitement in the arena leading up to and during this fight.

by Sky on Aug 16, 2009 1:29 PM EDT reply actions
ADCC is no joke but womens MMA is, she isn’t going to submit a beast punching her in the face, she is going to curl right up into a ball an tap due to strikes.

That being said, how many people will buy a PPV with Cyborg vs Coenen as main event? Not me.

There are quite a few women who are attractive competing in mma and grappling. Trannies like Cyborg are rare.

why isnt tara larosa being considered? is it because shes a 125er? santos, carano and larosa share have victories over alot of the same people. she was forever considered the top female fighter, then, while still beating tough opponets, she started losing stature. strikefore needs to bring in this chick and let her try and tap cyborg out.
by Bobby on Aug 16, 2009 3:25 PM EDT reply actions
Maybe Larosa against Gina and winner gets winner of Cyborg Marloes.

Toughill first then this girl after she gets herself a win or 2.
People need to stop with Tara Larosa she would get smashed by Gina or Cyborg the girl is at least 20lbs lighter weight does make a difference even in womens mma.

by dia mette on Aug 16, 2009 11:55 PM EDT reply actions
Megumi Fuji fights at 115 lbs. Way too small to fight Cyborg. Also, Larosa fights at 125 which is a bit small too. For now it’s Coenen and Toughill as challengers, for better or worse.

Anything to do with the making weight for Gina gassing??? She usually seems to have pretty good cardio so it makes you wonder. Yeah after 2 minutes mouth wide open gasping for breath and we all know she has struggled to make weight previously. I dont believe there are any weight classes in female MMA just that one 145lb class is that correct?
by Steve on Aug 17, 2009 4:27 AM EDT reply actions
Average at best.
Though I’m sure the fight world will try and pump her up as the next Gina Garano, the new face of women’s MMA blah blah.
