will LOOOOOOOSE.. lol. Actually, I think Shogun is one of the few guys who could give Machida a shot.. Not a big one, but more so than Rashad Rampage Franklin Liddell Forrest

by Synyster on Aug 12, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I am saying this as a big shogun fan- I wanna see if he can try to get it done on the ground because standing Machida will smash him out by the 3rd. Just like with Anderson said, their standup is just at too high a level for the rest of MMA right now so people should just start diving for TDs from the onset. I wish they could have built to this fight but fn TUF got in the way of other possible matchups. Still I like Machida in another shut out.

Only Forrest Griffin could beat Machida

LOL, Forrest would die!.. If the Shogun that showed up in the Chuck fight comes it’s gonna be a good fight!..

shogun~ shogun~ shogun!!!

i got rua via sub late 3rd~ kneebar or rnc..

by ricky~dooby on Aug 13, 2009 7:26 AM EDT up reply actions

I think Machida probably has a better jits game then Shogun. With His karate background, Sumo wrestling background, and jits I do not think Rua stands a chance. I see this being a one sided victory. More then a 1/4 of his ko/tko wins come by way of soccer kick/stomps. He has lost a huge part of his game coming to the UFC. Just my 2 cents though.

by Da Monkey on Aug 13, 2009 8:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Machida will make Shogun look like Forrest Griffin fighting Anderson.

Shogun will not be able to touch Machida and The Dragon will light him up as soon as he feels like it.

When the fight was first announced, I said that Machida should be a -500 favorite in this fight and got blasted for it. He opened at -600. Shogun little pansy trips will NOT work against Machida. Shogun does NOT have world clas takedowns (regardless of what John will tell ya) and even if the fight does happen to go to the ground, Machida is no white belt in BJJ. But the only time I see this fight hitting the ground is when Shogun’s unconscious head slams against the mat.

Everybody things Shogun is back to his old PRIDE form. WHY???? Because he KO’d the over the hill Chuck Liddell? In the last few fights, who HASN’T KO’d Chucky? (Wandy, I know…) Oh, maybe its that really impressive win he had over the other over the hill fighter in the LHW division – Mark Coleman. Both of these fighters are WAAAAAAY past thier prime. Machida is just BEGINNING to reach his prime. Shogun and his many nuthuggin fans are going to QUICKLY realize that the very loose Japanese rules played a big part in making the Shogun I loved in PRIDE.

by ViolentMike on Aug 13, 2009 9:51 AM EDT up reply actions

The old Shogun would lose too. He was always sort of wild and Machida eats that stuff up.

by frosnt1 on Aug 13, 2009 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions

The old SHOGUN will make a comeback, shock the world and dominate like he did in PRIDE FC. If not the new SHOGUN will get his ass whooped.

by TaPouT on Aug 12, 2009 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Old Shogun..Old Crocop..keep wishing. they’ll never be the same.

by Lights Out on Aug 12, 2009 11:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Shogun is going down….I think this will be similar to A.Silva Vs Forrest….but probably not quite as bad. Shogun is just not a technical enough striker to stand with the Dragon….but this is mma, anything can happen

I don’t think so.

Shogun lost to Forrest Griffin. Only Forrest can win this fight.

Machida all the way.

by DSmith on Aug 13, 2009 12:48 AM EDT up reply actions

Really Kev? If so, you better jump on Shogun now because he opened at +400. I believe he’s down to +375 or so last I checked.

There aren’t may bettter betting situations than truely thinking a fighter is going to win and getting him at +400. Usually, betting on a guy that is +400 means you think he has better than a 15% chance at winning (didn’t do the math, just estimated) and think the odds are favorable

by ViolentMike on Aug 13, 2009 10:02 AM EDT up reply actions

If the Rua from Pride comes out this could be a classic I’m just not sure the Chuck KO was enough proof he is there yet? Hope he proves me wrong!!

by Beaver on Aug 12, 2009 9:19 PM EDT up reply actions

im with you brendan I want shogun to win (prob wont happen though) I was the biggest shogun fan during pride when he lost to griffin I almost shyt my pants I bet my friend 100 bucks just to loose, I think shogun has the biggest chance to beat him besides Anderson Sliva and maybe even Randy if he can implement his takedowns, but Lyouto just seems to be on another level like silva
war Shogun!!!!

by Nor Cal Mexican (formely Philicutioner) on Aug 12, 2009 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

His pride performances are over, quit living in the past or you’ll lose money!

by Merk on Aug 12, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

yea as of now, shogun is the only one i can see whos style has a chance of giving machida a chance…not page, franklin, jardine, chuck, forrest, or any other top contender…shogun is the only one left who’s well rounded enough on the feet and the ground to have a chance…

a rematch with rashad would be interesting…especially now that shad knows he cant stand with the guy…

mike brown walked through faber easily the first time…they had a great 2nd fight….penn walked through uno the first time…they had a great 2nd fight…bowles just walked through torres, i bet they’ll have an incredible 2nd fight…

cant always judge a 2nd fight by the way the first one went..

but yea, im definantly looking forward to machida shogun…if shogun is 100% this is gonna be a fucking classic

Machida and Carwin, by death.

by Miketsi on Aug 12, 2009 9:18 PM EDT reply actions

I’ve been pumped to see Carwin fight again I think he’s the real deal! His ground game has been stated by Jackson & their camp as being great if so Cain one of the best wrestlers in the HW division should test Carwin and we should all be able to judge for ourselves.

by Beaver on Aug 12, 2009 9:23 PM EDT up reply actions

If you believe what his camp has to say……….

by Khaos_Warrior on Aug 12, 2009 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I will never be sold on Carwin until i see him fight past the 2 minute of a fight. I mean this is still a 275 lbs man. Regardless of how much he believes in his cardio, until it’s tested – it’s zero to me. I also don’t like that he doesn’t react well to getting hit – he goes autopilot really quick when guys start putting shots on him. Haven’t decided on who wins though.

by NameNotRequired on Aug 12, 2009 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions

I know but because he has deafeted his opponents so fast and easily with his powerful striking and you know his stand up is good!! Even more so than Rampage is known in the LHW division if there is even half truth to how good his cardio and ground game is said to be he would be a great fighter that stood a chance at least being the #2 or three ranked HW if and if it’s as good he will give Brock one hell of a fight? I can’t see anyone in the world HW divisions that would want to trade five strikes for every one of his!?

by Beaver on Aug 12, 2009 11:36 PM EDT up reply actions

shogun is my bet, then i hope we see silva/shogun for a decent fight, then silva can send some 205ers to different weight classes, poor franklin = )

Whos your master?

by Ktown on Aug 12, 2009 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

Shogun had a really rocky start, but it looks like he’s back to his former self. Once he gets that belt, i dont see anyone taking it from him for a long time. Anybody that thinks shogun is the underdog in this fight is simply delusional

by maestro on Aug 12, 2009 9:32 PM EDT reply actions

lol? U mean like the betting odds? aren’t they like -700 Machida or something? I think the betting odds aren’t doubting Silva as much as reflecting the greatness of Machida

by frosnt1 on Aug 12, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry said Silva meant Shogun

by frosnt1 on Aug 12, 2009 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

everyone is only looking at machida’s past two fights (which i admit are impressive), but what has he done before that? Thats why the odds are so ridiculous -700 give me a break. Shogun has been knocking out good fighters for years, and he is only 27. Machida is good but not great, he shouldnt even be mentioned with anderson silva and fedor.

by maestro on Aug 12, 2009 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions

YO YO MA!!!!

by McArthur on Aug 12, 2009 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Isn’t shoguns style pretty suited for Machidas counter striking? I see Shogun being Machidas Forest.

by Miketsi on Aug 12, 2009 9:36 PM EDT reply actions

Shogun has random striking
I dunno how machida will counter that.
In the chuck fight he showed good defense so it’ll be interesting to see his gameplan now.
We know shogun has a good chin if it goes to ground I think slight advantage for shogun with all his rolls and slick sweeps.
Both balckbelts
Machida to take down will be tough. Chuck is extremely tough to take down, shogun did it.
I hope its a great fight. FOT status

carwin ftw. cant wait to see carwin and lesnar go at it. not to overlook cain. but size will def be a factor. guys like cain and couture are the reason they need a 225# division

If anyone wants to take shogun(pride nuthuggers) I’d put my house on the line. Just be ready to back it up kids. Carwin also, 2 rd tko.

by Dman08723489 on Aug 12, 2009 9:51 PM EDT reply actions

Are they forgetting about Mirko Cro Cop?? Sure he’s 2-2 since he’s been in the UFC but he’s the #2 heavyweight IMO over Brock. I wanna see Brock vs. Cro Cop! He will work his way back up for sure..

by Adam on Aug 12, 2009 9:56 PM EDT reply actions

Are you serious? Mirko would get steamrolled by Brock. He will be lucky to make it past Junior. Cain and Carwin are also way to good for him.

by Miketsi on Aug 12, 2009 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL yeah those kicks to the head or legs won’t work against Brock one kick and Cro Cop would be flat on his back with Brock on to of him!!! GAME OVER
                             THANKS FOR PLAYING

by Beaver on Aug 12, 2009 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Kongo with absolutely no ground game owned Cro Cop! What in the hell is he going to do when he has 280# of angry hillbilly Div. I wreslting all over him? If he does not land his first head kick, Brock gets the takedown and pounds him out faster then a virgin loosing his virginity to a playboy centerfold….

by Da Monkey on Aug 13, 2009 9:07 AM EDT up reply actions

I gotta tell you, im not surprised. Everyone has been high on Machida ever since he murdered Rashad, AND beaten every other fighter he has faced convincingly, yet I read all your comments and you are all still calling for the Shogun win, when Lyoto frankly hasnt given you much of a choice by his results in the octagon but to clearly call him the favorite. Juat analyze the last two years of both fighters careers and it is clear Machida is the favorite. Now I understand alot of you are Shogun fans and it is really more wishful thinking than anything else, but it really does surprise me to see so many people picking Shogun in this fight when in all seriousness Machida should win this fight.

Possibly submission for shogun catching machida in like a guillotine or somethin

I’m going woooo
Who all is gonna go?

by phenomenal angel on Aug 12, 2009 10:34 PM EDT reply actions

i was thinking about going but i dont know man, i dont want to shell out like 300$ for a decent seat, and i dont want nosebleeds because ive seen the view from those and its terrible, dont know how u could enjoy the fights from the 50-100$ seats… probly just watch it on the old 42" for the PPV price split between 6 or 7 people

by brendan(formerly a bunch of names that no one cares about) on Aug 12, 2009 11:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m only spending 400 tops for a seat. I never been to staples center but ppl tell me anywhere u sit is pretty awesome even nosebleed due to screens everywhere., but 400 should get me where seats start curving up and u see straight into cage.
And another reason is I live 45-60 mins from LA so beats the drive to vegas.

by phenomenal angel on Aug 13, 2009 1:04 AM EDT up reply actions

ok everyone take a deep breath and listen…and please dont cry, just read…

shogun….isnt much of a factor anymore, bullshit titleshot, dont pull the he knocked out chuck bullshit, rashad knocked out chuck and he also beat griffin, something shogun failed miserably to do, and well we saw what happened to him.

he will come forward only to hit the hell out of nothing while taking a crisp left to the dome.

now dont get me wrong, i dont beleive that machida is the mma god people hype him up to be but shogun is only a cool highlight video now.

now pay attention because im calling it now, no explinations now but soon, the future champ of the LHW division is…..QUINTON “RAMPAGE” JACKSON…just hate and watch son, hate and watch

by UltimateSquint on Aug 12, 2009 11:46 PM EDT reply actions

well youve got an opinion, thats about it… what are you reasons for thinking shogun has no shot? care to provide any? and your reason for thinking rampage will be new champion?

by brendan(formerly a bunch of names that no one cares about) on Aug 13, 2009 12:18 AM EDT up reply actions

dude u cant call shogun a bullshit title shot…first of all no one else was available…ok, in your opinion, WHO SHOULD BE FIGHTING MACHIDA IN OCTOBER INSTEAD OF SHOGUN?? who?? who????

rampage turned it down, forrest was tied up with silva, shad just lost, jardine is busy with thiago silva, rich was coming off a loss with hendo

there was NO ONE available to fight in october…everyone else was busy…shogun was all that was left…

rampage was supposed to take the fight, he turned it down…all the other top contenders i mentioned above had prior engagements…ufc made an executive decision…

so if u think shogun doesnt deserve to be fighting machida in october then i would like to hear your alternative

by HellaHectic on Aug 13, 2009 12:29 AM EDT up reply actions

That is one of the worst comments I’ve ever read. How is Jackson gonna beat Rashad, much less Machida? And on Shogun’s title shot he was the only option really after Rampage ducked Machida.

Rashad by UD or maybe ground n’ pound tko. I wouldn’t advise driving in the Memphis area after UFC 107.

WAR SHOGUN BIA BIA!!!

This will be a great fight… I don’t give a f what Anderson Silva said about Machidas fighting… Bottom line everyone has got there fav fighter and mine is Shogun not because he just came into the game, but cause he has been kicking butt since he was a young buck… He is a smart fighter and so is Machida, I rutt for Shogun and will not talk crap on him, but it will be an explosive fight on Shoguns end… Shogun fans, I watch the Liddell fight over and over again and the mother look damm impressive. Especially how he faked chuck with with a right then came up with a left and knocked him off of his feet… Rashad got lucky with a one punch knock out with chuck, however Shogun skillfully took him apart… With that being said, rashad was not a valid title holder… He knocked out a forrest whos in a MMA fan will know he is an okay fighter… He beat Shogun but then again Rogan and White know it was not a healthy Shogun… Machida has a fight coming… Shogun will beat him skillfully as he did already even though the fight has not took place. Machida will be running I’m sure just as he was in everyone of his fights… I’m sure, Shoguns camp will see how to take the f in runner out of his game…

WAR SHOGUN BIA BIA!!!

by N1SHOGUNFAN on Aug 13, 2009 12:53 AM EDT reply actions

Rashaads KO’ing Chuck was not luck. He has faster hands and was not afraid to sit in the pocket and exchange with him. Therefore speed+power+not being afraid=Chuck asleep like his TX TV interview. Rashad won the majority of the few exchanges that took place in the first, cut chuck in the first, and won all the exchanges in the second easily before KO’ing him. So where was the luck? He did exactly what Shogun did, with the exception the takedown. Maybe he didn’t get into as may big exchanges as Shogun, but that is because he is slick and has great hit and run speed. I hate Rashad personally but it was not Luck that beat Chuck. Shogun aggressive, moving foward style is going to play right into Machida’s counter punching style. Iron Chin or not I can’t see Shogun winning.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST….Half way through the first round shogun realizes “The Dragon” is on another level…..Ninja distracts the ref by calling RAPE from ringside…..While the ref’s head is turned and Wandy jumps in the octagon and hits Machida with a chair……SHOGUN BY KO

The good thing about Machida as champ is that he now must fight 5 rounds. What if the Tito fight had been 2 more rounds? I see Machida defending the belt 2 or 3 more times before he has to fight Anderson Silva.

Let Anderson abandon the 185 belt if he beats Hendo and go fight Machida
