Escudero lands a nice right hand and Miller responds with a stiff jab. Miller walks into a short Escudero upper cut but seems fine. Miller goes for a kick and Escudero catches it and punches him in the face, putting Miller on his butt. Miller gets up and the two are on their feet once again. Miller lands a nice right and Escudero fires back with a kick. Miller pumps the jab and the reach advantage is clear. Escudero closes the distance and scores a slam, but Miller is back on his feet fast. Escudero hits him with a short left that stuns Miller ... he backs up and then Escudero drills him with a straight right that puts Miller flat on his back. He follows it up with a few head bouncers just for short measure and Miller is OUT COLD! The referee is forced to step in and save Miller from further abuse. Wow. Not bad for a wrestler.

Final result: Efrain Escudero defeats Cole Miller via knockout in round one

-end-

Tomasz "The Gorilla" Drwal vs. Drew "The Massacre" McFedries (205-pound limit)

Round one: Drwal comes out with a low kick and McFedries whiffs with an uppercut/left combination in response. Drwal attempts a takedown and McFedries defends nicely. The fighters get hung up on the cage and exchange blows in close distance. McFedries misses with a lunging left. He's cut under his left eye. Drwal lands a low kick. McFedries connects with an uppercut, which forces Drwal to duck under and secure a takedown. McFedries gets to his feet quickly, but the Polish fighter is draped on his back, unleashing knees to the thighs. McFedries breaks free and the pair exchange leather. Now it heats up and the punches are flying -- both fighters are finding their marks. Great pace. Drwal connects with a left hook/right jab that appears to stun McFedries. "Massacre" appears to be very nonchalant. Drwal gets a takedown, then mount, and then McFedries' back as he rolls out of the dangerous position. That's how the round ends. McFedries looks gassed.

Round two: McFedries is just slinging punches with no defense whatsoever. Drwal capitalizes with a nice combo that stuns McFedries. He follows it up with a takedown -- McFedries has no answer. Now he has mount. McFedries rolls and Drwal gets his back. He sinks in a rear naked and McFedries spits out his mouthpiece. He's not even trying to defend at this point. McFedries taps ... that's it! He seemed to have nothing left.

Final result: Tomasz Drwal defeats Drew McFedries via submission (rear naked choke) in round two

WHAT????? This card is stacked!!! The return of “The Phenom” is enough to buy this alone, but Trigg back, Cro Cop vs Dos Santos, welterweight #1 contender fight!! You are ridiculous!!!

I agree this is one of those cards where they don’t have a great PPV star so they stack it to the teeth with good names.

by NameNotRequired on Aug 12, 2009 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Average to good at best…yawn.

by RedDog on Aug 12, 2009 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah good that it’s not ppv then if you live someplace good in the world.

C’mon guys, this card is stack from top to bottom. I for once can say that i’m interested to see all the fights. Am I dreaming or we got Matyushenko in the UFC now? How cool is that…

by Alpha Male on Aug 12, 2009 11:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is one of the better cards of the year, top to bottom. I see 7-8 very interesting match-ups. I prefer fight cards with greater depth, as opposed to those with a marquee fight at the top to sell PPV’s, followed by a huge drop off in quality.

by CL on Aug 12, 2009 11:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Anyone who thinks this card isn’t good is not a true fan I’m sorry to say!
The names don’t matter, styles make fights as they say, and there will be some good fights here without a doubt!

And Totally agree with CL….these cards are usually better than the ones with big names for the ppv sale

by ToeLock on Aug 13, 2009 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ToeLock, you can’t say that if a fan doesn’t want this card, then he ain’t a true fan. To each his own man. I myself don’t really have that much fanfare for 103, but would you not call me a “true fan”?

Well in any case, forget what i said in the 1st paragraph. I like this card ‘coz of my 1st ever UFC idol[Vitor Belfort]. Here are Syd’s crazy picks: take note of ’em ’coz you could earn money!

-Belfort[via blitzkrieg]
-Cigano[via right hook plus uppercut counter]
-Kampmann[via UD]
-Trigg[welcome back, I don’t like Kos]
-Jim Miller[I like the Miller bros]
-Dan Lauzon[he’s my friend on Facebook]
-Tyson Griffin[via KO]
-Escudero[he beat my boy Nover]
-Foster[i like upsets]
-Massacre[also a Facebook friend]
-Brilz[via “nitty-grittiness”]
-Matyushenko[I dunno his opponent]
-Dos Anjos[I dunno, I just feel him]

That’s a wrap folks!

how the heck could anyone say this is a bad card?~

im looking forward to this entire event bottom to top!~

i would have been fine watching hendo/frank headline too, but now we got the return of vitor! the cro cop/santos fight will be intense and the kamp/swick fight should be great..

the stink~mans pick go like this~

franklin
mirko
swick
trigg
hermes
cole
miller
oliveira
daley
mcfedries
wiman

im thinking of putting some action down on franklin~ mirko~ trigg~ and cole miller.. i have a good feeling about those fights~

by ricky~dooby on Aug 13, 2009 7:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow Negation. I actually have pretty close to the exact opposite of all of your picks.

Lauzon, Griffin and Dos Anjos are the only ones that I agree with.

The odds to most of these fights should be pretty close.

So true. This is one of those cards that while lacking in talent or name, has a lot of good match-ups that can make for an explosive event.

by Pat on Aug 12, 2009 11:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Its got quite a few interesting match-ups but Vitor’s return saved this card lets be honest.

by Jakizzle on Aug 13, 2009 7:34 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Vitor will lose. Rich Franklin’s striking is to clean.

by Ray on Sep 19, 2009 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Robotic,

How the HELL can you call this card “WEAKSAUCE”

i am SOOOO amped for this card!!

-Franklin/Belfort is DREAM match-up
-Cro Cop/Dos Santos has KO of the Night written all over it
-The return of Twinkle Toes in a ABSOLUTE STELLAR match-up
-Kampman/Swick decides the next WW contender and has FOTN
-Franca/Griffin means alot for LW standings + FOTN potential
-THEN you add in the MILLER BRO’s, KO artist Drew Mkfedries, and Dos anjos/wiman..

CAN NOT WAIT

i’m hoping for:

Franklin
Cro Cop
Trigg/KOS i’m a HUGE fan of both
Swick
Griffin
Mkfedries

frankilin by points
santos by ko
kampmann by sub
kos by tko if he goes back to using some wrestling (really, what is it about wrestlers who think they are boxers but only use overhand rights, im talking about you too rashad)

Efrain vs Cole Miller best make the live card. Tyson Griffin is supposedly an exciting fighter but dude bores me to death with his inability to finish a fight. Hermes return is nice but a bit tainted with his history of steroid abuse. Put the Escudero/Miller fight on the main card asap.

fu to the guy calling this card weak, he’s obv an idiot

The last Fight is ROB EMERSON VS. RAFAEL DOS ANJOS (UFC OFFICIAL)

Matt Wiman was injured

Franklin and Belfort is great. I’m eager to see that. But its a catch weight. holds no value.

They are giving santos Cro cop to destroy, which I’m happy about.

Swick should be a decent fight.

Trigg is old news.

This is an ok card. Compared to all the others lately, I still think this is weak. There are going to be so many boring fights. I’m surprised that you guys are peeing in your pants about this.

Martin "Hitman" Kampmann vs. Mike "Quick" Swick is the only fight that holds any value to future events. Its all fillers with good names. But it got your attention I guess.

by Robotic on Aug 12, 2009 10:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

so you dont want to see any fights involving crocop, gonzaga, herring, liddel, tito, vera, wandy, franklin, etc because none of them will ever be in belt contention again. how about just seeing fights for fights sake?

by Egads on Aug 12, 2009 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Speaking of Gonzaga, what has he been up to lately? I can’t remember when he fought last. I was really hoping to see him improve. Seems like he’s got so much potential.

Take a good look at Koscheck and Trigg because the loser of that fight ain’t coming back.

by 2TimePennConqueror on Aug 12, 2009 10:44 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Really? Even if Kos loses, I see him staying – even if this is the last fight on his contract (I don’t know if it is).

And even with a Trigg loss, Hughes seems bent on not retiring and putting him in there against any of the Top 3 WW’s would just not be fair to the aging legend. BUT, him and Trigg have a ton of bad blood and already fought twice. However Hughes did win both times which makes the 3rd less atrractive. Luckily thier 3rd fight was one of the greatest, and Dana even calls it his favorite fight ever.

I heard from somewhere that the UFC signed Dennis Hallman. It looks like the UFC is lining up Hughes’s last couple of fights.

by ViolentMike on Aug 13, 2009 9:22 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They need to make the 195lb catch weight into its own division already. Fighters like Frnaklin, Henderson, W. Silva have all expressed interest in this possible weight class.

Why does every fight have to be either a

Super fight
title fight

  1. contenders match
    ranking or title implications

what happened to just enjoying some damn good fights 2 warriors in the cage putting it all on the line. Why does it always need some title or ranking implication?

do you care about ranks that much

Belfort looks like a wrecking machine at his new lighter weight. I think he will be way to fast for Franklin. I’m expecting a first round blowout.

by erba on Aug 12, 2009 11:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I like how angry everyone is at my honest opinion. Maybe I should just say FIRST BITCHES!!!!!!! EVERYONE AFTER ME ARE LOSERS!!!!!!

I’ve been watching and buying these since 96. I love mma, I love watching fights. Even the crappy ones. I go to the local cards that have nobodies. I just feel the UFC set a standard. And they should provide what they promise. We have the best fighters, we give the best fights.

I’d like one or 2 fights of a card to hold some significance yes. But I guess I am spoiled. Since other cards fail to defend the titles at all.

Instead of everyone calling me a name and telling me how stupid I am, share your wisdom and tell me why I should care about any of these fights. I like these fighters, These should be good fights. I just think its sub par to what has been the trend. But I guess I’m just a big moron and have no knowledge of anything. I’m a big fan and practice the art. Looks like I’ll never be in the cool kid forum group.

I am willing to listen and hopefully learn something other than how to insult posters.

by Robotic on Aug 12, 2009 11:10 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m not gonna give out bout your lack of interest on this card. For me personally it’s gonna be a great card
Swick/Kampmann = no.1 contender
Franklin/Belfort = Belfort’s welcoming and possible straight title shot with Silva or Franklin showing he can handle the top fighters still besides Silva
Trigg/Kos = Trigg’s welcoming and sending Kos to 155 or Kos re-vamping himself and going back to what brought him to UFC
Santos/Cro Cop = next in line for a Brock/Carwin/Carwin destruction or winner of Couture/Nog
Miller/Efrain = Miller is looking to become a big name in 155 and this is Efrain’s opportunity to skip a lot of others

All in all I love this card and would hope to see one of these Miller/Efrain, Daley/Foster & Lauzon/Oliveira fights

LOL! Robotic, that is the society we live in now. Everyone wants to get angry…..while driving, or at the grocery store, or at work, or while discussing politics. God forbid that anyone enjoy the process of debate- we should just hate anyone who doesn’t agree with us! Ha!!

And for the record, cool kids are over-rated. Geeks are where it’s at!

This card is amazing.. It got so much better after they scrapped the hendo/Franklin rematch. I don’t understand why people are saying otherwise. like someone said earlier 2 heavyweight contenders in Dos Santos and cro cop. #1 welterweight contender fight of swick and kampman. tyson griffin always puts it on the line. Kos vs trigg amazing..

Off the topic a little you guy’s remember Spike and the UFC is putting on classic Pride fights below is the article pasted with a a list of names from Pride that will be on the show, you might be surprised to see one or two that you thought were not…..

One of the most popular MMA organizations in the world during its ten years of operation (1997-2007), PRIDE Fighting Championships, based in Japan, featured world class mixed martial arts artists in some of the most dramatic bouts in the early history of the sport. Spike TV will re-broadcast the best of these bouts in “The Best of Pride Fighting Championships,” premiering Sunday, January 11, 2010 at 11pm ET/PT.

Hosted by Kenda Perez, the series features past and present UFC® champions among the legendary MMA combatants that includes Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria, Dan Henderson, Mirko Cro Cop, Wanderlei Silva, Fedor Emelianenko, Josh Barnett, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Mark Coleman, Frank Trigg, Hidehiko Yoshida, Akihiro Gono and Takanori Gomi.

“As the destination for the best mixed martial arts on television, Spike TV is always looking for ways to give fight fans more of the incredible action and competition they crave,” said Kevin Kay, president, Spike TV.

Pride held more than 60 mixed martial arts events during decade of operation including the largest live MMA event audience record of over 70,000 people in August 2002. In March 2007, Pride was purchased by the owners of The Ultimate Fighting Championship® brand.

You know Dana wants to show the fans the what they want thats the kind of man he is “a owner & spokesman for the UFC but an even bigger fan” But he probally also believes the fans are smart enough to see how much better the fighters are now day’s and how much improved and evolved and only some from Pride days have adapted in the evolving sport and how some have not and how some we are not sure of lol.

They should have called it KO night, here’s why:

Belfort by KO rd 1
CroCop by KO rd 2
swick/kampmann not sure but by TKO
Kos by KO
and……(i’m gonna get flamed for this)
Griffin by TKO-he’ll finish this one just gotta feeling

UFC 102-Nog all the way

Dunno how people can make fun of this card.

It is going to be great.

Then again I am the kind of guy who watches Sengoku live at 3AM.

I never really understood why everyone always gives belfort so much praise! I have always enjoyed watching him fight, but I personally think franklin will outwork him.

Well this card is better than ufc 101 to me over all, they only had 2 good match ups on that one.

Well, its that time again. UFC 103 looks to kick off again tonight @ 7PM, with a new twist, as our friends at zuffa have provided us with 3 free fights, off the preliminaries on spike tv. This was a direct action to entice some ppl to stay away from the flloyd mayweather fight tonight (who by the way says mma is for white inbreds that drink Beer and watch nascar). Ok so he’s half right but that’s besides the point. The real action gets under way on ppv @8PM. And here’s the predictions. Keep em close. Look for koschek to run thru trigg while putting on a wrestling clinic, tho I’m still calling for a surprise tko from Josh as trigg is old & one out of UFC for 4 years. I see hermes franca falling @ the hands of Tyson Griffin, in which will most likely be the boring fight of the night. Griffin by decision. Look for the hungry up and comer Dos Santos to unleash on the yet UFC unproven Crocop. Although if mirko can whether the storm I think he’ll prove to much. Still calling for Dos Santos by ko. Kampmann will try to stand with late replacement Paul Daley, which will prove to be a bad idea, if he realizes this before its too late? He will take it to the ground and win by submission. And in the main event? Wow tough call! Again vitor looks slightly out of shape @ weigh ins last night, but has such heavy fast fists. If he gets too many on ace, he’ll send him to the sandman. If ace can stick and move, he’ll take it by decision. Well that’s it folks! Have fun out there tonight, and make some money! -Mmaworby

I think that might be a little overboard, the only thing he did was those five punches that ended the fight. I don’t think you can call that relentless. The end of the Franca/Griffin fight you could consider relentless.

by Miketsi on Sep 19, 2009 11:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Kampmann should have definitely took him down. Semtex kept looping that left hook and drilling him. Shitty part is that Semtex could probably tko gsp if he got a hold of him but once it hit the ground he’d get tooled. Kampmann should have went with something he had over Daley, the ground. At least Kampmann is out of the picture. I still wonder if Swick will get his shot or if he’ll have to prove himself against another game opponent before he gets his shot.

by elltwilightiott on Sep 19, 2009 11:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

swick and daley should go at it for the number 1 spot.

Swick should have to beat alves to get a shitle tot IMO. Man I would love to see Semtex and alves go at it that would be wicked, man that guy can land bombs, Kampmann definitely fought a dumb fight by going toe to toe with that guy. Gsp will sub Semtex within the first minute if they ever fight.

I’m hoping cro cop puts up a fight. I don’t care who wins this fight, I just want it to last more than the first round. Cigano has a lot of ko power but not sure about his conditioning. Someone’s getting put to sleep or tko’d. Probably a controversial stoppage unless Cigano blasts him with a flying uppercut again!

Mike Swick just signed on to fight Matt Hughes in early 2010. i think he will knock hughes out though. matt huges trying to get the take down on Swick will look very much like Tito trying to get the takedown on Machida when he fought him. kinda of a big height difference.

Mirko should have stuck with more leg kicks. I think he was apprehensive due to Cigano’s power. Either way, I think he was definitely on the way out by KO if he kept doing what he was doing.

On a side note, Joe is pretty open about talking about balls and gonads tonight. “There’s a fight in the audience” – smiling like a little kid. Gotta love it!

This is probably the best UFC card in terms of fight finishes in a long time. I’m pumped that Tyson finally got a real nice tko.

by Muffin Stuffer on Sep 20, 2009 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dancing with the stars lol you fucking idiot. Mayweather is a defensive boxer just like Machida is a defensive mma fighter. I understand you guys hate Mayweather for how he acts and I don’t approve either but you can’t deny Mayweather is the best defensive boxer ever and after this fight he will go on to beat Pacman and prove he is the best boxer ever. Most of boxing is boring but when Pacman and Mayweather fight they make this shit fun to watch.

by rydinlow on Sep 20, 2009 12:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fuckin idiot I am not. His attitude has nothing to do with it. I like Brock Lesnar as a fighter. Mayweather will throw a punch and get in the clinch. Granted I dont follow boxing as much as MMA, but from all i hear from sportscasters and others, Mayweather will throw a few punches until he has a secure lead on the cards then stick and move, but not stick again. He did it against De La Hoya and Hatton (yes I know he KOed him.) And if you really think Mayweather is gonna beat Pac-Man.. whoa! But you are correct, I do believe the that fight will be a very hyped up and anticipated fight ala Ali/Frazier III.

Rich Franklin must have taken fight throwing lessons from Forrest Griffin. Something is starting to look ridiculously suspicious in the UFC.

OMG will you guys get off of this throwing fights BS. A. Silva is the best in UFC and Vitor is one of the best MW fighters. Franklin is not that great against great boxers ala A. Silva and Vitor.

Oh and BTW Mayweather just put on a boxing clinic.

I alway think everything MMA is legit and on the up and up. Its not boxing, but I couldnt help buy to be suspicious immediately afterwards. I made my comment at 23:14 right afterwards. It wasnt to the degree Ironside said it, but Frankin is one of the UFC posterboys that would do just about anything for the company. I dont know what they REALLY have to gain by it, but damn it looked suspect.

Guys, I was there for this event, and it was awesome! My first UFC event. rich Franklin did not get hit full on with any of the punches while standing, but on the floor he got nailed! It was legit. Vitor is an animal, he has great hand speed and punching power, so much so that a punch doesn’t have to land square to hurt you.
