Marcus Aurelio returns to replace Matt Veach against Evan Dunham at UFC 102

Former UFC and PRIDE lightweight Marcus Aurelio (18-7) will return to the UFC this month when he steps in to replace an injured Matt Veach on the preliminary card at UFC 102 from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon on August 29, MMAmania.com has learned.
Aurelio is hoping to erase the memories of his first run under the Zuffa banner that ended with back-to-back unanimous decision losses to Tyson Griffin at UFC 86: "Jackson vs. Griffin" and Hermes Franca at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote."
"Maximus" — a submission master — rebounded by knocking out highly-touted Chris Liguori at WCA: "Pure Combat" back in February and then put Joey Gorczynski to sleep at "Rumble at the Rally" this past June.
His first fight back certainly won't be an easy one.
Dunham, like Aurelio, boasts a slick ground game and has been perfect through eight fights. He comes into the August 29 bout after stopping Per Ecklund in his Octagon debut at UFC 95: "Sanchez vs. Stevenson" earlier this year.
UFC 102 will feature a main event between former champion Randy "The Natural" Couture battling former Pride FC champion Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira in a dream match up between two legendary mixed martial arts competitors.
Perennial light heavyweight contender Keith Jardine is also slated to throw down in a 205-pound slugfest against hard-hitting Brazilian import Thiago Silva on the televised PPV portion of the card, as well as a possible number one middleweight title contender eliminator match between Demian Maia and Nate Marquardt.

I’m going with Dunham on this. I thought Per Eklund was a lock on 95, and I was VERY surprised to see him get KO’d like that vs a newbie. I’ll ride his momentum here.

Glad to see Maximus back…Don’t let your hate for the guy cloud your judgement Syn. I’ll wait what NNR predict on this one, before making my pick.

I have no hate for Marcus. He’s a bit of a one-dimensional guy that hasn’t shown me anything but a BEAUTIFUL 16 second armbar since I’ve been watching MMA. I know his history and all that, but I’m going with this Dunham kid.

On paper, I love Maximus in this fight, but as a betting man, I wil stay away from this fight because this could very well be a case of the UFC needing a replacement and Aurelio trying to collect a paycheck…and NEVER bet on a fighter thats omy trying to colect a pay check. I got that same sense out of Kendall nleading up to the almeida fight and went and bet a nice chunk of change on Almeida…it seems like Kendall already had a pre-fight built in excuse ready for when he was going to loose to Almeida….and I capitalize on it!
Aurelio has the experience and ground skills, but will hiis herat be in it? His opponent will be much hungrier looking to take advantage of building a name for himself off a guy with a respected name like Maximus!
I wont touch this fight! I simply dont know enough about Veach! REAL TALK!

I’m going with Maximus, as long as he has fixed his cardio problem. He has all the tools to do well in the UFC, just gassed out in his UFC fights too quick.
