UFC Quick Quote: Dana White pulls the plug on video blog series

"I made the decision not to do the blogs anymore. I am the one that took them down. They were fun while they lasted, and thanks to everyone for the support."
-- UFC President Dana White confirms via Carmichael Dave that his popular video blogging days are over. In addition, all of the old footage from previous events has been removed from YouTube.com. This is not the first time that White has made this claim -- he vowed to stop the videos after a profanity-laced tirade directed toward Sherdog.com reporter Loretta Hunt got him in hot water. However, this time it appears different with the entire library now no longer available. In fact, it has many thinking that it could have something to do with a future production deal with a major network. Nothing, however, in that respect is official at this time.

TUESDAY MORNING CONVERSATION
I had the night to think about it rationally and have flip flopped. At first when I heard the Nick Diaz news and read all the reports, I said well, it’s legal (he has a medical card), it’s prescribed to him and the commission supposedly told him it was ok, they wouldn’t test anymore. After speaking with a few maniacs and my wife about the situation, I now believe that WEED is a bigger problem for Diaz than he thinks. He has now had a win over turned, been suspended and is now losing a source of income with (I’m sure) a suspension to follow. I know that the camp he has up there is a tight knit group of guys that are all world class, I also know it’s similar to the BJ Penn training camp. Caesar is not only his coach, but his manager. Nick is also the biggest name he has to pull people into Caesar’s gym. Hence is Caesar looking out for Nick’s best interest or is Caesar looking into Caesar’s best interests? Someone close has to pull Nick aside and have a long heart to heart.
side note, just watched the Torres KO… WOW!

the governments of the US and Canada just need to legalize marijuana now and get it over with!! to have this so called “drug” illegal in today’s society is just insanity..

I’m not disagreeing, thats why I was on the fence on this topic!

They’ll legalize it when they can do roadside tests for it.
Pulling someone off the road for maybe being high while driving won’t hold up at the moment. When they can do a quick test and legally prove someone is impaired it will be legal.
Until then bust the hippy’s and stoners, I can’t have a rum and coke and drive or go to work, why should they be able to toke at will?
by Jas on Aug 11, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions
because alcohol impairs you and weed doesnt. There isnt much you can do drunk….but seasoned potheads can pretty much do anything High.
i went to %70 of my classes at drexel, high! I studied for mst of my tests while smoking. i ALWAYS TOKE BEFORE BASKETBALL, jits, muy tai, weights….and the weed doesnt enhance my performance, but it doesnt hinder me all that much. Lets see people do those activities drunk!
not to mention, after a long night of drinking, there is NO better next day hangover cure than POT!
Its so stupid that this fight isnt going to take place because Nick uses Marijuana in his spare time! what a joke! I wont excuse Nick’s actions because rules are rules, but the rules NEED TO CHANGE. I wouldnt give a damn f Nick smoked a blunt on the way to the cage. I wouldnt recommend it, but it sure as hell wont enhance his performance, and his immediate health wouldnt be at risk. Only sport that smoking pot can enhance your performance is competitive eating! lol
and for those crying thata he missed a title shot….who the Fock Cares about that! I am a huge fan of strikeforce, but in reality their welterweight title is worthless. I actually kind of happy that Nick wont fight for the title, because as welterweight champion, who would he defend his title against? Galvao or Mach, but thats all I can think of. Nick being welterweight champion would lock him in a division with NO quality opposition. Im pissed that I wont get to see Nick vs. Heiron cause I expected it to be a good fight…but I couldnt care less, if Nick has that paper title or not!

Speaking of Galvao…I would like to see the UFC sign him soon. THey need a ju jitsu stud in the welterweight division.
when is palhares fighting and who?

legalize it, tax it and that pretty much answers where we’ll get health care money from.

What happened when alcohol was prohibited? We had gangsters runnin illegal businesses, crime rates sky-rocketed. Alcohol is now controlled, where are the underground alcohol dealers? Gone.
Legalize marijuana and these drug dealers will go out of business, less crime. Control it and tax it.
by Stryker on Aug 11, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah but people would just move on to narcotics don’t ya think?? They would have to legalize all drugs for your plan to work.

John is right, It is the best cure for a hangover!!! You go from feeling like a$$ to feeling like a million bucks! If they really screwed with him than I have no problem with him smoking it. I love weed and don’t ever want to stop smoking it, but if I were in his position, I would just give it up!!! Like Kevin listed already what he’s given up. Start back up again when you retire.
by BOW on Aug 11, 2009 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions
Kevin, are you sayin Caesar should look out for Diaz’ best interests by encouraging him to stop smoking?
I don’t understand. How does this work? Does the card give him veto for MMA? If so, he shoulda just attended the drug test or he does he have somethin else to hide?
by Stryker on Aug 11, 2009 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions
reports I’m reading, Garcia (former commissioner) told him no more pot tests, new guy said it’s on the banned list and therefore is banned.
yes, someone should talk to him, but I personally am questioning Caesar at this point. He always makes excuses (weight because salt water) rather than address the problem. Maybe he feels if he gets on Nick’s bad side, his best known fighter and brother leaver and take a lot of students with them!
by kevin on Aug 11, 2009 1:16 PM EDT up reply actions
here is a quote that is a perfect quote from an enabler! this is a direct Caesar Gracie quote from yesterday!
.
"He fights every two months," said Gracie. "It’s too bad for Jay Hieron, but what can you do? If you take the test, what’s going to happen? What’s going to happen is he’s gonna not get licensed in California for over a year and not fight this fight. If you don’t take this test, you don’t fight this fight, and you fight next month, because you have time to flush it out of your system."
by kevin on Aug 11, 2009 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions
I gave a quote and explanation, hasn’t come up yet.
John, you’re a moron, rules are rules. It’s like saying PED weren’t illegal in baseball so it doesn’t matter. I do agree it doesn’t give him an edge, but who knows, maybe he feels less pain. Point is, it’s a banned substance and still illegal, period!
by kevin on Aug 11, 2009 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions
no kevin, you need to learn how to read my friend. I clearly stated that RULES are RULES so I wont defend diaz….but i went on to say that the rules need to be changed!
Read out load the 2nd to last paragraph and call me a moron again!
by john G on Aug 11, 2009 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions
so they need to make an illegal substance not illegal in mma? yeah that makes sense!
by kevin on Aug 11, 2009 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions
The only thing I want to comment about your comment is that he can’t get suspended…this was a test to get licenced, like the one for Josh Barnett, and Josh didn’t get suspended. You only get suspended if you are licenced, and neither of them are. Nick can clean up and apply for a licence and he’ll get it no problem.
by Vox on Aug 11, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions
right, which in my opinion makes it way worse, you skip a test a week before a fight because you know you can’t pass it… why schedule a fight then? why not be clean and ready to go? why not get better people around you to be sure you are mentally there, and when I say mentally ready, I mean ready to pass a POT test!

They were starting to get a little off topic with the stupid run a mile in 7 minutes on a treadmill bets. And the practical joke segments that last too long. The shock pen and farting noises in office, while funny, were dragged on for too long in both of those blogs. a minute or 2 of each would have done trick.
,
I like when they focus around the events, the fans at the event, and the fighters. Like the inside the locker room footage before and after fights, and the fight predictions from the fighters. Dana whites reactions during fights. This I feel is what we like to see. Also the behind the scenes stuff, like before weigh in’s, press conferences, or what he has to go through before he can go on a tv interview like with the make up ladies at TV stations and stuff and howthe studio is set up. All of that stuff is intersting and it remains on topic.
,
Who cares if Fat Pat is getting himself into shape?? I want to know if BJ is geting into shape or Rampage. Ya Know.

Could be there was a legal issue or D. White is looking for his own reality show? Who knows? There’s something D. White is not telling us.. I don’t think he was bored of it, seemed like a lot of fun for him.

Interesting, but I would be astonished if a major network picked up Dana’s video blogs. Some of them are so bad, that while watching them at work, I wish that I was working rather than watching Dana’s dumba$s blog.
Dana’s big ego will probably stop the Countdown series that features the fighters and instead be 45 minutes of a little camera following him around while he eats like a 600 lb man and films nothing of substance. Besides, Dana swearing was one of the few good things about the vblogs.
If the vblogs are on tv, then it is going to sound like a freaking tornado warning because all you’ll hear is a long annoying BEEEEEEEEP. Either that, or it would sound like morse code.

Not a network deal with his blogs…a network deal in general….silly.
by introvert on Aug 11, 2009 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions
Thats what I would think, but isn’t the UFC already on Spike? Aren’t they even on like NBC at 2:00 in the morning on Saturday nights or something?
What makes the next network deal so special that he can’t even have a video blog on the internet? That doesn’t make sense to me.
My gut instinct is that his has nothing to do with any sort of network signing.
He probably called someone a homo again or something and is now getting sued and the bvlogs are no longer worth the possible financial repercussions.
by ViolentMike on Aug 11, 2009 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, We’ll probably find out more in his next interview as interviewers ask the question. Some of the blogs were kinda’ lame but I would so much rather have them than not.
by DAVE A on Aug 11, 2009 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions
I am either confused, gullible, or both. I think the HBO rumor is for the UFC on HBO not Dana’s Vblogs. Correct me if I am wrong with a link and I would be a happy.
by halljam2 on Aug 11, 2009 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions
the network will not be showing the actual blog..the network is to be broadcasting a behind the scenes UFC show…not an actual dana white blog…it would be pointless to have this show along side the blogs…the show should be much better done, and will be alot better than just the blog
by newfie on Aug 11, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions
Thanks newfie. I thought that possibly the UFC was getting close to an actual network deal.

They actually started to get pretty boring…Like when they were making those farting noises during that meeting for 9 min. I mean it was funny for 30 seconds.
When him and Cordova were going at it, that was good stuff!
by robbyc on Aug 11, 2009 10:38 AM EDT reply actions
I would agree, it was interesting when he was actually doing stuff like talking to fighters or seeing the behind the scene of interviews and prep for a fight. I didn’t care to see him working out or pranking his coworkers.

$40 a month for HBO, what cable provider you got?
People are so cheap when it comes to shelling out like $10 a month for MMA, movies, excellent series, and skin-a-max style soft porn. Trust me fellas, its worth it!!!!!!!!! LOL
Actually, I currently have all of the movie channels on ATT uverse, but have been planning on dropping Stars, Encore, Cinemax… and just keeping HBO and Showtime. They both have shows that I watch (Weeds, Nurse Jackie, Entourage, Hung, Curb Your Enthusiasm…) and Showtime got MMA and they both got boxing and HBO got Mayweather 24/7!!
by ViolentMike on Aug 11, 2009 12:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I got them all too mike. most of the movies I’ve already seen, but series like entourage, true blood, big love (yes I said it) dexter are well worth it. All you got to do is call your provider (comcast in my case) and ask for deals. I got HBO free for a year, showtime for 7 bucks etc. what kills me is ppv and on demand movies. they are the same price as blockbuster so I rent them at home!
by kevin on Aug 11, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Obviously a HBO show would be a major production and directional upgrade.
I just want to see the UFC get a major TV deal so we have the UFC on TV minumu once a month and PPV once a month.
I also would like to see ESPN pick up there MMA news series with Florian!
by Badguy on Aug 11, 2009 10:44 AM EDT reply actions
Below is Bloodyelbows speculation why
“The UFC is known to be working on a behind-the-scenes show with major network HBO, with a working title of ‘Outside the Octagon’.”
“It is possible that it was felt there is too much crossover between the video blogs and the television show, in which case ceasing the blogs makes sense.”
by Puck Head on Aug 11, 2009 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions
I’m pretty sure they are talking about the UFC getting a network deal, not Dana White’s video blogs. If they signed a deal with someone like ESPN or HBO there might non-compete clauses or either items in the contract that Dana’s video blogs might violate.

This is bollocks! One of the things I love about the UFC and the blogs in particular is that you get to see the fighters close up, making their personalities accessible and reminding you that they’re just real guys. If this has been done to help a network deal, then the UFC will become the same as any other major sport, in that its stars will become anonymous. I dont know what its like in America but the football/soccer stars over here have become alien to the everyday fan because of their high wages and the lack of access to them. The blogs give you an idea of how the events and company are run which you just dont have in other sports! BRING BACK THE BLOGS!!
