Adrenaline IV: Tim Sylvia next fight could come against Jason Riley on Sept. 18

Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia could possibly return to action against Jason Riley at Adrenaline MMA IV from the Mid-America Center in Coucil Bluffs, Iowa, on Sept. 18.
Riley recently spilled the beans via his personal MySpace.com page. No official confirmation from Sylvia’s manager, Monte Cox -- who also runs Adrenaline -- was available at press time.
If the bout does go down it will mark the return of Sylvia since a shocking 10-second knockout loss to 48-year-old professional boxer Ray Mercer back in June. Perhaps the only thing more shocking than the defeat was Sylvia’s scale-busting, coming in at a portly 310 pounds.
Prior to the Mercer debacle, Sylvia had been on the shelf since getting steamrolled by Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction "Banned" in July 2008. It marker more than a year of inactivity, which along with his weight, could be have been a factor in the fight against "Merciless."
The unsanctioned bout in Birmingham, Ala., put Sylvia on a three-fight losing skid. He was supposed to return against Paul Buentello at Affliction: "Trilogy" on Aug. 1; however, he was scratched after the loss (the event was eventually scrapped altogether).
In short, the former UFC headliner has now dropped four of his last five contests. He’ll need all the help he can get to ensure that he breaks out of his slump sooner rather than later.
And perhaps the relatively unknown Riley is just the opponent to help him do it.
Riley has certainly never faced anyone as high profile or experienced as Sylvia throughout his seven-fight professional mixed martial arts career. However, he has had solid success since his debut back in 2007, racking up six wins versus just one defeat.
He’s currently on a two-fight win streak, knocking out Justin Black with a punch earlier this year at NAAFS: "Caged Vengeance 4."
Stay dialed in to MMAmania.com for more on Adrenaline IV as the fight card develops.

by zzzzzzzzzzzzzz on Aug 11, 2009 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions
If Big Mirgilotta is reffing, Timmay won’t even be the second best HW in the ring.

Very f*cking nice P-Dub, seriously made me lol!! Everyone in the office is now looking at me strangely!!
by Dragon on Aug 11, 2009 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions
If he loses alot of weight, goes back to basics and hires someone to SHOW him a work ethic, Timmy might be able to climb back from humiliation.
by OJR on Aug 11, 2009 12:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Kimbo’s more likely to catch Fedor in an armbar.
by Stryker on Aug 11, 2009 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions
fuck it, Kyle Maynard’s got better luck catchin Fedor in a triangle.

I was going to accuse you of drinking a whole bottle of cooking sherry!

Its a shame because he was (at one point, anyway) a legit top 10-15 HW.
by OJR on Aug 11, 2009 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions
You don’t think top 5?? I mean he was the ufc hw champ. I know the competition was thin, but he was ko’ing mofos left and right.
by Dragon on Aug 11, 2009 12:58 PM EDT up reply actions
I thought that Tim was a top 5 hw (when he was champ) definitely not present though.
by Dragon on Aug 11, 2009 3:40 PM EDT up reply actions
Tim was good before he got his arm snapped by Frank Mir and before his loss to AA. After those two fights he got all gun shy and cautious and tried being a technical fighter (which he isn’t) instead of a brawler. Woulda lost eventually anyway with the brawling, but he woulda been a hell of a lot more exciting to watch. Monson, Vera, Assuerio Silva, rubber match with AA, all boring fights. Now that he’s consistently losing, and apparently not really even seriously training anymore, he’s 100% completely irrelevant.

he looks like turtle from entourage in that pic.
by chris on Aug 11, 2009 11:53 AM EDT reply actions
He’s a bum and will finish his career doing small shows like this. Even if he wanted back into the UFC it would be hard because he is too fat now.
by Cantrim on Aug 11, 2009 11:54 AM EDT reply actions
I’m going to hijack this thread because nobody cares about T. Silvia.
Anderson Silva may have a limited number of fights left in the UFC, I say they use them very wisely. No more rematches for anyone he’s already beat. Only very top fighters: GSP, Machida, Jones (down the line).
Hell I’m trying to figure out in my head a way to match Brock up with AS, I know freak show but I think he could do it.
by kibbled_bits on Aug 11, 2009 11:57 AM EDT reply actions
I was thinking about this too. The only guy I can see him fighting is Henderson. I know he’s beaten him already, but he’s the only guy available this year. Rampage and Rashad are set to fight later this year, and so is Machida and Shogun. Besides, Anderson WONT fight Machida, they’re friends, and Dana’s not about to kick Anderson out cuz he wont fight a friend. GSP is gonna need a year to put on muscle to fight Silva. They wont do Brock-Silva, we’re not in Japan.
by Stryker on Aug 11, 2009 12:02 PM EDT up reply actions
A. Silva v. Rampage
A. Silva v. Rashad
A. Silva v. Jardine
A. Silva v. Shogun
A. Silva v. Chuck
A. Silva v. Wand for the 185lb strap *(first fight I would book)
by OJR on Aug 11, 2009 12:17 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree with Wand first OJR. That’s a big money spinner due to Wands popularity and he’s tailor made for AS, he’ll just keep lurching forwards like Boris Karloff play’s the mummy, and get spectacularly KO’d Forrest style, and help put over AS.
by attakdog on Aug 11, 2009 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions
OJR, most of these guys are booked. C’mon Jardine? Chuck??? Are you crazy? Wanderlei would sell tickets, but he’s like 1-4 in the UFC.
by Stryker on Aug 11, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Jardine’d be a good warmup for him should he need one and Chuck Liddell would be a massive draw.
by attakdog on Aug 11, 2009 12:55 PM EDT up reply actions
Dude,
Jardine is a beast. He is a notch below the elite fighters. Besides, AS fought Irvin and Griffin. Jardine is better than those 2 clowns.
Chuck would still bring in the $$$. Again, Chuck is better than Griffin, last time I checked…
Wand = $$$. Nuf said.
by OJR on Aug 11, 2009 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions
OJR, im a fight fan…i don’t care about fillin seats. Jardine’s a beast?? He got ko’d by Rampage, Wanderlei, and Houston. He did beat Griffin, but I’d say Griffin takes it 2 out of 3. So, Griffin is a clown because he lost to Anderson? just like everyone else.
Why do you care if Chuck and Wandy brings in the money? I want to see good fights. The UFC making a shitload of money doesnt keep me watchin fights. Chuck is better than Griffin??? WOW.
I want to see Anderson fight TOP guys, not guys who bring in the drunk blood-thirsty uneducated fans (OJR?).
by Stryker on Aug 11, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions
He did not get ko’d by Rampage, are you stupid?
He almost won a decision over him.
by Lester The Pimp on Aug 11, 2009 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions
my mistake, but almost won a decision? c’mon.
by Stryker on Aug 11, 2009 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions
lol. so I’m stupid because you can’t win an argument. Let me guess, Chuck Liddell is the best fighter in the world. Right? Since nobody else can touch Anderson, lets give em Chucky. Dummies.
by Stryker on Aug 11, 2009 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Nope, your posts are stupid.
" Jardine’s a beast?? He got ko’d by Rampage " —-Wrong
" Chuck is better than Griffin??? WOW." - Yes
" Let me guess, Chuck Liddell is the best fighter in the world. Right? " - I never posted that.
" I want to see Anderson fight TOP guys, not guys who bring in the drunk blood-thirsty uneducated fans (OJR?)" - Ask the fellow Maniacs that went to w/ me Philly if I fit either one of those categories.
by OJR on Aug 11, 2009 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions
you could have stopped at “jardine’s a beast.”
I’m sure Houston Alexander is too right? lol
styker, i got a casear gracie quote in wec thread above for you
by kevin on Aug 11, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions
Speaking of WHO? Houston Alexander should be on this card as well. He got permission from the UFC to have a fight with a small organization since he lost 3 in a row.
by ViolentMike on Aug 11, 2009 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions
Tim needs to fight Ken. I’d like to see who could out lose the other.
by Ognitinoc on Aug 11, 2009 11:58 AM EDT reply actions
Tim reminds me of Ben Stillers character in Dodge Ball. At the end, he ate himself through his depression and now he looks like a tub of lard. He knows he doesn’t have a career choice now that he got cut from the UFC so he’s not motivated to train.
by MMA ANALYST on Aug 11, 2009 12:06 PM EDT reply actions
Yeah, he was in the UFC when the HW division was completely worthless.
Throw in the towel Timmay. Go work in a factory or something.
by Miketsi on Aug 11, 2009 12:46 PM EDT reply actions
Timmy should just skulk off to Japan. They love a fat worthless freakshow out there, loads of opponents for him – Mighty Mo, Butterbean, Bob Sapp, Zuluzinho, the guy who only fights cans, now what’s his name……. oh yeah Fedor.
by attakdog on Aug 11, 2009 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions
was?

Chuck Norris counted to infinity – twice.
Chuck Norris does not hunt because the word hunting infers the probability of failure. Chuck Norris goes killing.
If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you. If you can’t see Chuck Norris you may be only seconds away from death.
by McArthur on Aug 11, 2009 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t even know what to say about Timmay anymore. He’s like the fat kid of MMA. We keep him around, but only for shits and gigs. I can’t wait to see how he can phuck his career up a little more.

i still wana C a rematch between tim & ray mercer!!!
by d*locc on Aug 11, 2009 2:01 PM EDT reply actions
Honestly, who really gives a f*ck about Tim Sylvia anymore, perfect waste of space on an otherwise entertaining and informative MMA site!!!!!
by KMac on Aug 11, 2009 2:10 PM EDT reply actions
Houston Alexander is also fighting on this card. He was not going to be given a fight in the UFC until December so they negotiated to let him take this fight to get back on track. No opponent known yet.
by BTay on Aug 11, 2009 2:22 PM EDT reply actions
I hope he gets viciously KO’d, that way on track is back to Nebraska unemployed!
by kevin on Aug 11, 2009 2:40 PM EDT up reply actions
Actually Jason might be just what Tim needs to lift his spirits up from the floor. Riley has only fought in local organizations and in some NAAF promotion/organization at 6-1. The guy is lacks the money to get a good trainer and has never fought elite fighters, yet his record and regional stout is enough so people can call him a tomato can.

Amazing how irrelevant the Milletich camp has become……i remember when they were the top shelf in MMA……whose left at that camp besides Spencer Fisher?
