Despite losing his WEC bantamweight title, Miguel "Angel" Torres was the bread winner on the night, pocketing $25,000 for his main event first round knockout loss to Brian Bowles. The new champ, on the other hand, took home $18,000 for his efforts.

Scheduled under card fighter Leonard Garcia hauled in the second biggest paycheck of $24,000, earning every penny of it with a hard-fought split decision win over Jameel Massouh that was bumped to the Versus telecast at the last minute.

Yeah…his lights were DEFINITELY otu!!!

What a shame….the BEST 135 fighter in teh world winning the main event of a televised show ONLY makes $18,000. And it would of been ONLY $9000 if he had lost

I still can’t believe I get to watch these WEC cards for free! Amazing fights! I think I enjoyed it overall more than UFC 101. I hardly ever see a boring fight on WEC and they did not disappoint last night.

Torres is (or was) one of the P4P top fighters in the world and rolled in 25K ..something wrong with that

by robbyc on Aug 10, 2009 4:30 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

no, smaller show, no ppv revenue and lighter weight class. He makes most money on gyms and sponsors. It’ll be just like what strikeforce pays this weekend, it’s not UFC guys!

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no shit, 25k for being top 4 in p4p?.. i understand its wec, but still, where else can he go? japan? ufc has no bantamweight or featherweight classes… thats kinda crappy..
wonder how much urijah pulls in?

by miggz3000 on Aug 10, 2009 4:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

not much more, go to last wec thread, I’m sick of googling for you guys!

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Use the search feature. Took 10 seconds to find. Brown vs. Faber 2
Mike Brown — $25, 256 (Includes $13,000 win bonus)
Urijah Faber — $25,790

by halljam2 on Aug 10, 2009 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wow $2000??? I think I will keep my dayjob……….

by Dragon on Aug 10, 2009 4:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

do the math guys 20k times 3 fights a year is 60k…
add sponsors, bonuses etc he’s making 6 figures.
why do we have to have this discussion after every event.
6 figures doing something he loves, how many of us can say that?

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 4:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I believe he was commenting on the guy that only pulled down $2000.

by Chalkbot on Aug 10, 2009 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

lol

by brendan(formerly a bunch of names that no one cares about) on Aug 10, 2009 7:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Also 6 figures suffering permanent brain damage, and with few job prospects after retiring from fighting. No way he has enough to live on without working again, and he doesn’t have a good resume to get a good job later in life.

by frosnt1 on Aug 10, 2009 6:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

not to mention taking a significant hit to his attractiveness with those disgusting ears =P

by frosnt1 on Aug 10, 2009 7:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

frosnt1, so opening 4 or 5 gyms isn’t a great source of income? I really get a kick out of some of you guys man!

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

For some reason, I have trouble believing that every MMA fighter opens 4-5 gyms in retirement. It just seems…kind of impossible.

by frosnt1 on Aug 10, 2009 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

really, so how many big name guys have gyms in chicago?
Nick Diaz has a gym with his brother, gracies all have their own gym.
if you have a brain, you can market yourself!

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 11:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

So…smaller fighters, smaller paychecks?? Torres getting 25G is b.s.

by Big E on Aug 10, 2009 4:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Thats some shitty salaries.

by Lester The Pimp on Aug 10, 2009 4:52 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Not much money but the WEC probably doesn’t pull in a lot of cash either. Although I usually enjoy the fights more the most of the UFC fights.

by elotsip on Aug 10, 2009 4:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

$2-3k a fight is crazy. That’s hobby money.

Fuck, people make more bowling.

by Miketsi on Aug 10, 2009 11:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

this made me sad.
