WEC 42 bonuses and awards for 'Torres vs. Bowles' on Aug. 9

WEC 42: "Torres vs. Bowles" from "The Joint" at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, has officially wrapped, which means that it’s time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get few extra dollars for their efforts.
$10,000 extra to be exact.
The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four out of the 22 fighters on the card. And it probably won't come as much of a shock whose wallets are leaving "Sin City" a little heavier.
If it isn't obvious enough already, Brian Bowles secured the "Knockout of the Night" when he became the first man to ever put previous 135-pound kingpin Miguel Torres down with strikes.
Danny Castillo's destruction of Ricardo Lamas certainly would have been worthy of the bonus; however, the new bantamweight champion shocked the world with a brutal finish.
In one of the most action-packed fights of the year in the WEC thus far, bantamweights Dominick Cruz and Joseph Benavidez went back-and-forth for three full rounds in the co-featured fight of the evening.
It was an opportunity to be called the division's next number one contender. And while it was Cruz who gutted out decision win, both fighters' bank accounts were winners on the night, as the entertaining battle earned the, "Fight of the Night."
And finally, by process of elimination, Rani Yahya, took home "Submission of the Night" honors with his first round north-south choke finish over WEC newcomer John Hosman. It was the only submission finish on the night.
Here are the special fight bonuses for WEC 42:
Fight of the Night -- Dominick Cruz vs. Joseph Benavidez
Knockout of the Night -- Brian Bowles
Submission of the Night -- Rani Yahya
Again, each fighter received $10,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.

can’t really argue with any of those bonuses! that was a sick knockout by bowles…some say late stoppage but that was definitely the ref knowing torres as a fighter and that he “usually” has an iron chin.
long story short, good stoppage.

No Doubt it was a perfect stoppage! If he had stopped it any sooner everyone would cry he stopped it to soon! Miguel would have popped up off the canvas and acted like he wasn’t out as he stumbles around the octagon. So forth, so on. Great fight though and doesn’t change the fact that Miguel is one of the best in the world. He just got caught. Silva’s day is coming!

Big difference between Silva and Torres, Miguel was already hurt and taken down, then got desperate and tried to do a Vitor Belfort but ended up getting counterpunched and KO’d. Andy is a much more technical striker, he doesn’t take unneccessary risks like Miguel and is a lot more patient and methodical in his approach. He bobs and weaves to avoid being hit and times his strikes to perfection.
If anything you should compare this to Faber’s defeat, as both Miguel and Urijah were the WEC’s posterboys and top p4p fighters before facing bigger, stronger opposition and getting KO’d. With their flashy styles it was always going to happen.
Fighters like Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida will take some beating because they don’t get hit whilst they have perfect timing in their strikes and they both look a step ahead of the opposition. Until someone can catch Andy or Lyoto, they aren’t losing anytime soon.

Silvas day is coming? Is there a new specimen that the UFC hasnt told us about? Because unless Jesus Christ himself comes back, NOBODY on this planet will KNOCK silva out!

Yea Anderson is so good that he wants to get into boxing but when he does sadly i feel he’ll get knocked out by a past his prime boxer and if andy does get ko’d than it makes mma look weak and it will lose a lot of its ahh power. anderson is great in mma but in boxing all that hands down come on handshaking he does will get him ko. it he wants to try something else i say anderson should go to k-1 and just she how good he really is standing up after a few fights there with no loses than try boxing but anderson should take steps to get into the boxing ring not just jump and say hes a big name in mma and go and get knock out by a pass his prime fighter!
