UFC 101 LIVE RECAP

First of all, let me thank Kevin for arranging this and putting forth alot of effort.

Let me tell you something : Kevin is a cool guy and most importantly : He keeps his word!

Nick from Philly, Dustin from MA, Rob from NY and Deuce from NC made it a great time.

I saw Coleman, Goldy and Arianny on Market St.

Coleman looked ancient in person. Father time is cruel.

Goldy literally had his hands all over Arianny. Discretion is not a part of his vocabulary. Can’t say that I blame him, though.

Glad to see that BJ rebounded from his last loss and DOMINATED Ken.

Now all of you BJ haters can STFU!

It felt nice to be one of the few people cheering for A. Silva while he was being bombarded by boos and insults.

It made the silence that much sweeter after he clowned Griffin. I loved it.

Bow down to greatness, b1tches.

Amir’s stoppage was justified. He was out on all fours and was lucky that Hendricks missed his follow up punches or he would have suffered alot more damage. Good stop.

Pellegrino impressed me with his control. Neer impressed me with his jits.

Leites and Sakara stunk out the joint.

McCrory took a step back. He should have kept it standing.

Philly was a nice time. Looking FWD to the next trip!

Great stories OJR. Did goldie have his “down with the kids” ripped jeans and flipflops on?

by attakdog on Aug 10, 2009 9:37 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL.

He had sunglasses, an Affliction or Ed Hardy monstrosity and some down w/ the cool kids jeans!

Spot on, k-dog!

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 9:50 AM EDT up reply actions

What a tit! That must be his everyday getup, someone needs to tell him he’s in his 50’s. I hate Goldie so much, he’s got everyones dream job and he’s rubbish at it. “IT IS ALL OVERRRRRR” Give it a rest!

by attakdog on Aug 10, 2009 10:41 AM EDT up reply actions

LMFAO!!! I have been saying that sense the day I heard his commentary!! I would kill for that job and he eeffing ruins it!!!

K-dog,

Agreed!

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Well,

Since I haven’t really seen a BJ headline, I will use this thread to eat some crow.

I called Kenny for a Split Decision win… and boy was I wrong. BJ proved again that he is untouchable at 155. When I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong… I WAS SOOO WRONG.

Congrats to BJ for coming in shape and getting back to his dominate self. For Kenny, I hope he gets right back in gym and gets back in line for more exciting fights.

by Cole on Aug 10, 2009 9:44 AM EDT up reply actions

Bj is still a whiny girl. He’s got mad skills but he’s the one that should STFU once in a while. I’m not a hater of his game, I’m a hater of his mouth. I don’t think he’ll ever get over the beating he received from GSP – but GSP is at a different steroid level.

by MikeD on Aug 10, 2009 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed MikeD. That phucker can’t even give a decent postfight interview with Joe Rogan. I almost fell off my f’ing couch when Goldberg called him and Florian two of the classiest fighters in mma. Maybe Florian but definitely not BJ Penn.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions

YEah I commented on that right away, BJ Classy!? I also laughed when Goldie said that BJ cemented the judges decisions in their minds should it go to a decision.. Rogan politely said “No’ no… there’s still 3 rnds to go” LOL.. I’m one of the few guys that really like Goldie on here despite his lack of knowledge n’ bonehead comments… that sh*t is funny!

Some chicks were getting it on during the course of the Shane/Riley fight.

A blond woman was fighting someone but the scrum was confusing so I could not make out the other person.

She got kicked out before the Griffin-Silva fight and was high fiving people on the way out!

What’s funny is that she was getting more attention and applause than either Shane or Riley!

Philly fans are unreal!

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 9:49 AM EDT up reply actions

Hahaha…i kept saying RUN FOREST RUN and he really did Run out of the arena. I feel sorry for him and hope he comes back stronger but for Anderson Silva he is absolutely #1P4P in the world. Let’s hear the dumb asses say somebody else.

by spiderfan on Aug 10, 2009 9:56 AM EDT reply actions

GSP would own Silva. Silva has no wrestling so he’s not well rounded enough to be #1 p4p. It’s amazing the way you supposed hardcore fans are so easily manipulated by the UFC machine. This is EXACTLY what the UFC wanted from this fight. A big name who comes in wildly aggresive and takes crazy chances for Silva to knock out. It’s not possible to get a KO like this unless your opponent has no defense.

by frosnt1 on Aug 10, 2009 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions

A. Silva would defeat GSP.

His size and striking would be too much.

His BJJ is good enough to hang w/ GSP’s GnP.

You are a bit biased, I think.

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 10:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Wrong OJR. I’m not saying that it would be an exciting fight but he could definitely decision Anderson. Not saying a certainty but GSP has the perfect game to beat Anderson. He already said that he would take the time to pack on some serious muscle. They would fight at a weight in the range of 180-185 and the size/strength difference would be minimal. “His striking would be to much”. GSP would strike for all of about 30 seconds per round. Once on top nobody can hold his opponent and work position better than GSP.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Wrong Adam T.

I love GSP as much as the next guy but size will make a difference.

Sorry, bud.

Welcome to reality.

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

ANYONE who thinks GSP has a shot at Silva is out of their minds… Silva just DEMOLISHED a 205 pounder… which means he is a contender at 205… GSP walks around right at 170 all the time… he isn’t going to gain much weight to fight Silva… sorry but there is NO WAY GSP can overcome a 30 lb weight difference.. period… GSP is probably the best all around fighter in the game… but no way he even comes close to challenging Silva.. its just too much weight/strength to overcome… if I was GSP… after watching Silva destroy Griffen I would send Jon Jones home and start focusing on smashing someone else in the WW division and keep my eyes in my own division…

by sigpesal on Aug 10, 2009 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions

He can put on 10-12 lbs. of muscle and they can fight at 182. What 30lb. weight difference are you talking about? And the fact that he just demolished a 205lb fighter has absolutely phucking nothing to do in an analysis of a fight with GSP. ANYBODY (except maybe Lyoto and Fedor) that chose to stand with Anderson will get KTFO also. GSP will not stand with him. He will put Anderson on his back, over and phucking over again until he can either finish (doubtful) or the 15 minutes is up.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s what BJ fans thought vs. GSP

What Mir fans thought vs. Brock

Etc., etc., etc.

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m still waiting to hear about this 30lb. weight difference that sigpesal is referring to.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions

GSP is a dominant WW but is relying too much on his wrestling these days, he won’t be able to grab hold of Andy and take him down for 15 minutes because for once he will be the smaller fighter. GSP is a world class fighter but isn’t big or strong enough to bully a huge MW in Silva and Andy has proven that he can submit people off his back. If Dan Henderson, a bigger and stronger wrestler than GSP, couldn’t beat Silva then I don’t see how GSP can, and if it stays standing Andy will maul him, GSP doesn’t dare stand with great strikers these days.

by David W-S on Aug 10, 2009 12:55 PM EDT up reply actions

ADAM… either ur an idiot or you have no idea about cutting weight… ok say they do fight at a catchweight of 182… that means GSP walks in at 182 and that is as heavy as he is going ot get.. bc he had to gain weight to get there… Silva will have to cut pretty decent to get down to 182… which means after he rehydrates and has a couple meals after weigh ins he will be back up to about 200… and I don’t care who you are there is no way GSP can gain 12lbs of pure muscle in 3 to 5 months (about the time between when a fight is announced and the fight actually happens)… i see there being at least a weight difference of 18 lbs and a strength difference of at least 25 to 30…

by sigpesal on Aug 10, 2009 12:56 PM EDT up reply actions

You guys are so obsessed with size and don’t give any reason why it should matter. Question: If GSP can outwrestle Rashad Evans do you honestly think he can’t deal with Silva’s “size” and put him on his focking ass? The fact that he beat FOrrest Griffin in a kickboxing match isn’t impressive to me at all. If anything, being bigger and slower is a disadvantage in striking.

Welcome to reality, OJR.

by sigpesal on Aug 10, 2009 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Thank You frosnt1. Completely agree. I’m not saying that GSP would win just that he would definitely have a very good chance of taking Anderson down and pounding out a decision, much better than any light heavyweight (save Lyoto) would have at winning a standup fight.
There is no doubt that Anderson would be bigger and possibly a little stronger but that wouldn’t be enough to keep GSP from putting him on his back.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 1:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m not an idiot sigpesal. I know that Anderson would rehydrate and come in a little bigger than GSP. However, I don’t correlate weight with strength.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions

frosnt1-

“The fact that he beat FOrrest Griffin in a kickboxing match isn’t impressive to me at all.”

Your opinion is garbage.

REALITY.

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions

agree to disagree… on the fact that you are an idiot…hahaha.. jk… here’s my point… i can see where you say weight and strength don’t always correlate but where my eyes really opened up is when i realized that Silva’s strength is up there with the 205 pounders. Think about it this way, Forrest took some mean shots from rampage and stood with him the whole match… Silva knocked down forrest 3 times in the first round and pretty much made him tap from strikes… which means his strength is comparable to the fighters at 205…

consider this… alves was a BIG WW… and the whole fight he was able to stand back up with GSP due to his sheer strength… don’t you think Silva will be able to do the same considering he is a BIG MW? C’mon guy… stop washing GSP’s ballz and get real… GSP would get his face smashed…

by sigpesal on Aug 10, 2009 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Sigpesal I get yr point but GSP does not walk around at 170lbs he walks around at 190lbs maybe 195lbs.. he probably sheds at least 10-15 lbs water to make 170lbs.

by DAVE A on Aug 10, 2009 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions

You are off my man, for sure. Being a Canadian, I love GSP like he is family but I don’t think he has the ability to overcome the boxing of Spidey. Georges takedowns are the best in the game, while Spidey has the best hands in the game. Is the takedown ability enough to overcome the striking? I don’t think so. Fight a couple of lesser MWs first, then test yourself against the Champ for a challenge. A Silva is great and he is the clear P4P king.

by DH on Aug 10, 2009 1:02 PM EDT up reply actions

IF GSP was a true middleweight do you really think that Anderson would be able to keep him from taking him down and holding him there?

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions

GSP could not stand up with Silva for long, he’d have to shoot shoot shoot… eventually Silva would catch and KO’ him… If GSP was extemely fortnate and managed to take Silva down in the beginning of each of the 5rnds and manage to hold him there, that would be the only way he could win… I don’t see that happening and really don’t want to see Silva vs GSP.

by DAVE A on Aug 10, 2009 5:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe Adam, but he’s got to get up to a comfortable 200 lbs or more to be a true MW. Even then, I feel like its a toss up. Hendo is a great wrestler who had him on his back, and Hendo didn’t finish too well in that fight. I see Georges taking Silva down (hopefully without taking damage) but I don’t see him finishing the fight there. Therefore he has to take Silva down 5 times in that fight without ever allowing him to get up, and he has to get him down without getting rocked. Can Georges to that? Yes. Is it likely/guaranteed? No. I give Spidey a lot of credit as one of the top 2 best stikers in the game. When either guy does what he does best, they ain’t no joke. Set Georges up with Gouveia, Okami, Wanderlei first for a taste of what he can do against MWs.

WTF cares Daniel. Some dumbass drunk idiots getting into a fight in the stands. You know a fight won’t break out on the floor because one of the UFC boys in attendance would lay them the phuck out. I don’t have any respect for thugs like those.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions

this is the “golden age” of UFC champions: the elite of the elite, the creme dela creme, the best of the best:
(1) BJ Penn – the most talented mmartist in the planet.great boxing, superb bjj, freakishly amazing flexability and balance granite chin..
(2) George St. Pierre – the super athelete and hands down the most complete fighter in mma today..endless gas tank, fast and light on his feet, best takedown in the bussiness..
(3) Anderson Silva – the deadliest man on his feet, surgical precision hands, ala matrix reflexes, and possibly the pound per pound king in the group..
(4) Lyoto Machida – the most elusive man in mma,the karate master, the enigma..
(5) Brock Lesnar – the real time human hulk, the most imposing dominant figure on mma today..
pretty damn good line up..beats the era of sherk – hughes franklin – lidell – slyvia era..what you think guys?

good post jace!

by jet99 on Aug 10, 2009 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions

GOOD CALL- I dont think Sherk was even part of that era. The 155 belt was all over the place back then. I must admit tho I started watching UFC around UFC 50..so I still have respect for all those fighters from that era.

by robbyc on Aug 10, 2009 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Pretty good analysis. I only disagree w/the statement that bk Penn is the best mmartist. I have GSP as that as well. And as great as bk is, I just dislike his lack of respect and non stop new reasons why GSP beat him. I can’t help but jump the next contenders nuts n hope for Diego to beat him now. Tho Diego starts strong and wears later rounds too. Should be great tho to watch.

Well said overall tho. And I still h8 Brock too. Come on carwin!!! Plz!!!

by Daniel worby on Aug 10, 2009 10:51 AM EDT reply actions

I love how everyone on this site is on Brocks dick now! After his first fight 95% of the people on this site talked nothing but shit about him! And GSP is a vagina….he is scared to move up to fight anderson cause he feels he is too small, that shows right there he doesnt have the HEART of a fighter only wants to fight guys his size? But BJ has NO problems being outsized, cause he is a TRUE champ…ditto on Anderson….SO GSP grow a pair, u sisssy ass canadian!

by nastydiazbros on Aug 10, 2009 10:59 AM EDT reply actions

AGREED. GSP NEEDS TO GROW SOME BALLS. BJ HAD NO PROBLEM FIGHTING HIM.

HE’S JUST MAKING EXCUSES NOT TO FIGHT ANDERSON.

by *PrettyBoy* on Aug 10, 2009 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I’ve never said a bad word about Brock, ever since he announced that he was going into MMA I have been looking forward to seeing him fight. After the first Mir fight he proved that he had a lot of potential and since then he has gone from strength to strength and has become the biggest star in the sport with his dominating wins and entertaining interviews.

by David W-S on Aug 10, 2009 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions

As much as I hate BJ Penn for all of his post fight antics were GSP was involved, I will say he looked real good against KENFLO. Kenny looked averagely bad in that fight. Im not sure what his game plan was but it clearly did not work. BJ completely owned him everywhere in that fight. I think Kenny played it way to safe, he needed to be more agressive but Im not sure that would have changed the outcome, BJ was a machine out there!!!!!

by Spyder on Aug 10, 2009 11:00 AM EDT reply actions

Attakdog, ojr, its very true and very stressful at times the amount of fake/unknowledgeable posters on this fight. I’ve already seen a few today. The most annoying are the supposed ‘HARDCOREs’ that say “oh I can’t watch the main event this time cause blah blah” but then weigh in and expect me to respect it.

There aren’t any any any excuses to miss it. Unless its a last minute death in the family. Today one poster said,“hey where can I watch the end of the Torres fight? I missed the last minute.”

Ummm really? You missed the last minute? How the hell did you manage that? Flipping back n forth between the main event and the hills? Liar. Just come the site and say “hi guys I’m new, but I heard I missed a real impressive ko and I’m trying to get into the sport, can you guys help me out on where I can see it?”

Much better. And then i’d remember his screen name down the road n help him out in future posts

by Daniel worby on Aug 10, 2009 11:02 AM EDT reply actions

Why is it that BJ has NO problem moving up to fight GSP, but GSP makes nothing but excuses when it comes to moving up to fight Silva? Because GSP is scared to finally fight someone his own size, it is the french in him, grow a pair, step up and be a fighter, till he does that BJ definetly deserves the top spot GOOD JOB!

by nastydiazbros on Aug 10, 2009 11:04 AM EDT reply actions

you honestly think GSP is the same size of anderson? do you have down syndrom? GSP belnogs in the WW div. he would be SMALL even if he put on some muscle for the MW

He won’t stay at 205… he has already said that is Loyoto’s belt… he is butt buddies with Loyoto so they probs won’t ever right… he just fights at 205 bc there is no one left at 185 for him to smash on and he wants to finish his UFC contract so he can go smash some faces in boxing…

Wow ur a smart cookie hey? When did he mention he was scared again? The interview where he said that he would fight Anderson after swick/kamp? Or the one where he said, he has no problem if Dana asks him to as long as he is allowed the time to properly train @ a heavier weight? Cause I missed the one where he said no? Maybe you can steer me to this fake interview you decided to puke upon us w/ur lack of knowledge?

by Daniel worby on Aug 10, 2009 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions

BJ isn’t smart enough to know better as evidenced by his beatdown at the hands of GSP. I wouldn’t even call the Penn/GSP thrashing a fight. His cornerman had to throw in the towel for him, probably so that BJ could say that he never did himself or that he never tapped out to strikes.
GSP isn’t scared of anything, he just said that he would need some time to do it right. Time to pack on some size.
Pardon him for actually being intelligent and thinking out the situation. You must be a huge diaz brothers fan.

k above just checking if this is working. i usually just sit back and read all the hilarious stuff people say but i gotta say something man. so i guess im not the only person who thought this fight could have “possibly” been fixed. im not saying it was, maybe like 5% chance or it being rigged. man i love anderson silva he is THE best fighter, (bruce lee too wahhh) and my favorite too but daaaammnn man he made this fight look waaaay to easy to convince me that there isnt a miniscule chance it coulda been rigged. the reason i say that is just because forest looked so outta game. i mean i know he aint dont got that much technical skill, it was gonna be a repeat of the leben fight, but it didnt even look like he was trying. he was throwing kinda sloppy even from the beggining before he got hit. maybe he was just scared of another ko james irvin style i dunno. but then again thats what silva does. his skills are so good it sometimes looks like its rigged cuz it just goes way to easy for him. if it was rigged tho i think it would be cuz some dumb ass**** fans cant appreciate what a great techinal fighter anderson is and completely forget what hes done to his first seven opponents and then bit** because he has two amazingly beautiful technical fights that he didnt finish. Selfish bastards how dare they boo. but yeah since stupidass fans cant appreciate technical fights maybe dana gave forrest a little under the pocket to make it look easy, show off andys skills, and take the fall, not like it woulda made a difference but just as a precautionary measure, but griffin ended up making it look really rigged if it indeed was (bad actor haha). and then with that people will want to watch andersons ppvs again because now, to them, he is “exciting”. of course this little conspiracy is probably just a defence mechanism my mind created to cope with the mind raping anderson did to it with his performance. (my mind screaming/crying in the dark): not like this andy!! not like this! With that being said, anyone find what henderson said hilarious? i started rotfl. “Im gonna beat him up” anderson will rape him in the face a minimum of 3 times if he tries on anderson what he did to bisping. spider vs.fedor vs. chuck norris!!
