nothing ojr, he called the silva KO and picked kenny

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Quick question for you Kevin (and the others who want to chime in): If GSP was a true middleweight do you really think that Anderson Silva would be able to keep him from taking him down and keeping him there for five rounds? In that scenario (lb for lb) I would bet GSP could and would take him down all night long. So then who is better lb for lb???

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I can def see GSP taking him down if he is willing to take some laser beams to the head…

but keeping him down? NOPE.

Again, SIZE and reach will be too much for GSP.

IF a blown up LW like Serra made GSP see stars, what do you think Silva would do?

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I just said if he was a true middleweight, same size einstein. Alves’ standup puts Serra’s to shame and how did that go for him?
He could definitely keep him down if the size wasn’t an issue.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 2:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Adam, if "GSP was a true MW’ as u stated, it doesn’t matter, Forrest is a true LHW, and landed 1 punch. go to compu strike. Yeah, gsp may take him down, he more likely would get hit in the face 6 or 7 times on the way in, not to mention a knee or 2. I respect GSP’s ability, but silva is on another planet
Silva/Rampage wouldn’t even be a fight (and I wouldn’t be picking Rampage!)!!!

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 2:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Silva’s striking is better than GSP’s and def Alves’.

The reason GSP went to GnP is because of the Serra loss.

Silva’s size and reach would still pose a problem for GSP.

Not everyone who lines up at the same weight has the same body frame.

Ok, einstein?

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The weakest part of Silva’s game is his wrestling/takedown defense. A middleweight GSP could take him down with ease. It wouldn’t have to be a perfectly set up shot. According to you OJR, Silva would have a strength advantage under any scenario. I think that’s bologna.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

See Silva vs. Ace 1 and 2.

See Silva vs. Hendo.

See Silva vs. Lutter.

3 different tactics, styles and strength (body frame).

All with the same results. Failure.

by OJR on Aug 10, 2009 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Anyone vs. Anderson Silva = Epic Failure. lol jk I think a true middleweight GSP could take anderson, but what does it matter cause it will never happen……………..

by Dragon on Aug 10, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i think a true welterweight GSP could take anderson, if lutter and hendo can get silva on his back and keep him there for a round, the best wrestler in mma will absolutely own him, just like the alves fight, as long as he can dodge whatever silva throws on the way in he will win that fight…

by brendan(formerly a bunch of names that no one cares about) on Aug 10, 2009 4:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I got to disagree Brendan (respectfully of course). Lutter has better jits than GSP, mounted silva and did nothing! Hendo got on top and, yup you guessed it, did nothing! I think Silva can beat every single LHW out there (maybe, thats MAYBE not machida) so a fight with GSP is for nothing except ppv sales and ends in 2 rounds tops!

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

General perception has been that the LHW division has the most talent and depth of any UFC division. Anderson Silva may singlehandedly put that to test and destroy it. While I still believe several LHW’s would show better than Forrest or Irvin, I am convinced Silva would win convincingly. Forrest absolutely stunk up the joint, but we need to remember he’s a guy that has competed at the top of the food chain in the division. Silva may render most of the top contenders in TWO weight classes irrelevant. Amazing.

by CL on Aug 10, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If GSP were a true Middleweight I’d still have to go with Anderson Silva, GSP is able to strike with guys at their own level or better before he takes them down. That would’nt be the case with Anderson Silva, if they got into any kind of exchange GSP would be hit on the button and KO’d before he could take a decent shot… HOWEVER, IF GSP ‘miraculously’ was able to take Anderson down early in each of the 5 rnds without getting hit on the button’, I don’t think Silva could escape GSP’s vicious GnP.

by DAVE A on Aug 10, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

this whole convo is annoying cause wrestling is not fighting, ok!.. GSP wouldn’t do sh’t to Silva, and even if he did take him down the whole fight i would just say that he’s a better wrestler, not a more talented fighter!… GSP relies 100% more on his physique than Anderson, Anderson is about skills and technique..

great post roberto

by kevin on Aug 10, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think that Adam T makes a good point and ts worth raising in the P4P debate.

Lets be honest about it all P4P talk is rubbish playground stuff because your talking about enlarging fighters to match opponants… but still,

I think if you plugged a socket into GSP and he grew to Silva’s size he WOULD be able to take him down, control him and beat him.

Lets not forget that his standup is good too. There is always that chance that he would eat one coming in but for sure it is a possibilty that he would win.

by Nick J on Aug 11, 2009 6:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Roberto: Wrestling is a big part of fighting. Do you think that Josh Neer is a better fighter than Kurt Pellegrino? By your reasoning you would probably say yes even though he lost the fight unanimously. It’s foolish to say that just because a guy uses his wrestling to defeat an opponent he is not a better “fighter”. That’s some dumb shit. It may not be the most exciting fight to watch but the fact is that GSP controls his opponents and takes away their offense.
“He relies on his physique more” Yeah, I’m sure all the guys on the cover of muscle and fitness could do that also. GSP’s BJJ is as good as anybody that Anderson has ever fought and he has the best takedowns in the business. There isn’t anybody of equal size (or close size) that can keep him from taking them down. I guess BJJ, wrestling and athleticism are not skills or technique. What a POS post you had.

Back is good, picked his boy kendall to win (of course), picked forrest to last about 2 minutes with silva and get knocked out, picked florian and said it was his time to shine. And he wants to fight in nov. against coleman then on the new years card. Looking forward to (hard to type) a rematch with Machida.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

honestly not much new to report buddy…he wants Coleman in Vegas in November, and he picked Kenny to win, he was pullin for Kendall, AND get this…he predicted Forest would be KOed in 2 minutes…came off good again imo…its nice when you don’t have to listen to him go on and on about $$$ or Dana

by McArthur on Aug 10, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

he loves fighting in the titleship rounds! hahaha, classic tito

by ---Caesar--- on Aug 10, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, he comes up with the best words ever.. nice prediction on the Forrest fight, you really had to be a big Forrest fan or don’t know alot about the sport to think that Forrest would win..
War Tito!

by DAVE A on Aug 10, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like tito but how phucking long are we going to have to listen to the fact that he put Machida in a triangle? That fight was a beatdown. He needs a couple of very impressive wins to even be thought about for title contention.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 1:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

in his defense he was asked that question…he seems happy to be back and excited to fight

by McArthur on Aug 10, 2009 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

True. But he seems to bring it up in every interview I see him in. When he’s 60 he’ll still be talking about how he almost subbed the legendary Lyoto Machida.

by Adam T. on Aug 10, 2009 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

To answer a question that was asked by a different guy in a different interview at another time, yes I did almost get a triangle choke on Machida. And due to those 15 or so seconds of almost greatness, I deserve a title shot.

by PW on Aug 10, 2009 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was his last fight and Machida is the champ now, so what is your problem really? chill the f out, and think..
Oh and btw, if that was a beatdown you’ve never seen a fight! Anderson on Forrest was a beatdown

by RoBerto on Aug 10, 2009 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Then you’ve never seen a fight either.
Penn v Stevenson was a beatdown.

by KS on Aug 10, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah i know, but Anderson vs Forrest could’ve been if Forrest hadn’t given up.. Tito v Ken the first fight is as much of a beatdown as you can get!

by RoBerto on Aug 10, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree that he needs to put something together first. He’s got a handful of guys ahead of him in line for a title shot. If Rampage beats Rashad, he’ll probably be next.

by ballhawkdawk on Aug 10, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I would love it if Tito and Machida rematched, and Tito’s whole gameplan were to catch Machida in a triangle, LOL…

by ARodOfIron on Aug 10, 2009 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Interviewer: How you feelin’ since the back injury?
Tito: Good… blah blah.
Interviewer: What fights are you looking forward to tonight?
Tito: Grove/Almeida (Grove is a friend), and the two main events. He was pulling for Kenny and picked Anderson via KO in the first.
Interviewer: When can we expect to see you and Machida again?
Tito: I dunno.. I gotta get a couple fights in first. I’m hungry to fight again. Last time I tested him.. next time he won’t get out so easily.

TITO!! TITO!! TITO!!

Tito has no shot against Machida and no shot in LHW division either. The talent is too stacked and too great now for him. Move on.

“titleship rounds” ?

oh tito.

by killer on Aug 10, 2009 2:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, Tito fought Machida before he had the desire to finish fights. I think a rematch would be Rashad/Machida part II. Tito getting KTFO while still talking shit.

by Miketsi on Aug 10, 2009 2:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hey Tito,

You don’t get to brag about stuff that you ALMOST did. That’s like saying," I almost picked up a model at a bar the other night but I didn’t."

In fact, it’s more of a sign of failure that you didn’t finish the triangle. You also threw a punch at Chuck…did you almost knock him out? No, you got TKO’d yourself.

You don’t deserve a shot a Machida until you get a significant win. I can even remember when you last won against someone not named Ken Shamrock (who is a shell of his past glory).

Give it up. You are a gatekeeper.

Wow.

Hard to argue vs. this post.

I’m not a tito fan, but I do appreciate the guy. Like him or hate him, his fights are always entertaining (you either want him to win or get KTFO), he’s a huge draw… And every time he opens his mouth, you know something comical is coming out (even though it’s never intentional).

This guy was the reason i started watching Mma & im not embarrased to say that.

I remember when i was like 11 or 12 years old watching this guy. He just appealed to me as a kid.

The problem with Tito is that he’s still stuck in his one-dimensional style.

Hopefully we see a new Tito on his comeback.

I agree….cuz the same old “Chito” is a POS.

Same here, Tito got me into MMA so did chuck btw.
That moment (in the vid) he got a bit anxious about fighting again gave me the feeling he is really up for it now. so lets just hope he comes back to fight and not for anything else.
im happy he is back and not in some other “organisation”

I want to see Tito get obliterated by Machida, that would be fun. I vote yes.

Kind of torn, like Tito, but now I have to listen to Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg talk about heaven on earth, BIG BEAR, BIG BEAR, TRAINING IN BIG BEAR, ALTITUDE, BIG BEAR CAMP, BIG BEAR.

Goldie, “Joe, Tito looks great and in shape”

Rogan, “Well, Mike, training at Big Bear, a great camp at Big Bear, Tito is in shape”

Big Bear, Big Bear, Big Bear. The next time I hear Big Bear, I better be in the woods on a hunt with a cannon shotgun

I’m surprised he even remembers fighting in “titleship” rounds. The last time he made it to round four was in 2004 when Randy was throwing him around like a ragdoll.

He will never see a round 4 again….why, because he will never fight for a title again, at least in a real promotion.

What an alternate reality he lives in. He actually believes that he is still a title contender. He’s not even top 15 in the division.

“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy”…does that mean that he purposely doesn’t wear sunblock? What a bad boy.

I can’t wait to see his “World Record contract” when his fighter salary is published after his next fight.

I would bet he doesn’t even have the highest paycheck on that card, let alone in the UFC, let alone in the world. Amazing that he doesn’t mention that anymore.

Tito: (weeping) Dana, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I tried to get money from other promotions but they just won’t give me money. I don’t understand. I need the paycheck. Trump has turned his back on me. Jenna is thinking about going back to, sob, work. The twins will starve. Can you help me out for old timesake?

Dana:There, there. Nobody wants to see Jenna to go back to work. You can fight in the UFC. You can even pretend you are a factor. I won’t stop you from pretending to be a contender.

by Gibbroni on Aug 10, 2009 4:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Gibbroni, make no mistake, Tito has a nice fat contract. Much like the biggest stars in the UFC he gets a % of PPV and a nice fat bonus for signing. True, he had no where else to go really, but the UFC has been increasing the pay scale this year and it was worth it to Zuffa to keep him happy and quiet!

by DAVE A on Aug 10, 2009 7:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dave A,

Where did you get your info? No matter how big of a draw he used to be, he wont be getting a world record contract. No way.

Zuffa doesnt need to keep him quiet and happy. Where do you get that idea?

I’m also not too sure he gets a % of PPV. Where do you get that info. I could be wrong about the % part but that still wont be the biggest of all time. And why would they give him a signing bonus?

Just curious where you get your info.

by Gibbroni on Aug 10, 2009 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He IS a big draw still.
They needed to give him a big contract as a sign of respect for the money Tito’s brought and will bring the UFC!
He’s def gonna get a % of the PPV, that’s for sure.
OFC they gave him a signing bonus, that’s what you do when you sign a guy you really want.

by RoBerto on Aug 10, 2009 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lets see some numbers that prove he is still a big draw. His more of a side show now. They didn’t NEED to give him a big contract. Where else was he gonna go. Strikeforce obviously didnt offer him the contract that he imagined he was worth, that’s why he had to eat crow and make up with Dana White. Affliction never had plans to put him on a card or else they would have at least had him on Affliction 3 before they folded.

“He’s def gonna get a % of the PPV, that’s for sure.”
Well that sounds like hard evidence, I’m convinced. Your shipment of fail has arrived. How about a source that shows he gets a % of PPV…anyone….anyone. I will accept it if I’m wrong, I could be. I just haven’t seen anything and he hasn’t brought up the size of his contract since he resigned which he was sure he was going to get.

As for a signing bonus, the UFC doesn’t need him. They have a stacked division at LHW. He will never get another shot at the title so he will be just hanging around doing sideshow fights. Not really worthy of a signing bonus. But again, you have no source to back up your claim that a never again contender is so hot of a commodity that he warrants a bonus just to say he is in the UFC. But you seen sure….wow, someone on the web is sure of something they have no source to support. Again, I’m convinced.

1) No disrespect to Tito but the Lyoto of yesteryear is much different than years ago (like Paquiao)…. Tito destroyed… bad move….

2)Fedor needs to step up to the plate ala GSP Anderson Silva Lyoto Machida BJ Penn Mike Brown and Miguel Torres (RIP)…. duckin and dodgin doesn’t get you more respect from long time fans like myself.

3)If Anderson goes to 205 and doesn’t fight Machida, then it’s all pointless…. he is the only person that will beat him, plus the friend thing. I say let’s see it, that would be the best matchup in the Mixed Martial Arts world as of yet.

4) MMA rules, all of it… it has morphed into the greatest sport I think I will ever see…. ohh, and Manny Pacquiao, he’s amazing
