...Gegard Mousasi in an exhibition sparring match.
"The Last Emperor" and "The Dreamcatcher" are scheduled to touch gloves for the upcoming M-1 Global: 'Breakthrough' event from Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 28.
From the M-1 Global press release:
"We were blown away by just how popular Fedor's exhibition vs. Aoki in Japan was. Fedor and Gegard have sparred many times together and the sessions have always been intense. Now fight fans watching on HDNet and those attending live in Kansas City will get a rare glimpse at two of the best fighters in the world sparring each other."
Mousasi is set to battle Renato "Babalu" Sobral for the Strikeforce light heavyweight championship at the upcoming 'Carano vs. Cyborg' event on August 15 from San Jose.
Emelianenko, who recently clowned lightweight grappler Shinya Aoki in an exhibition grappling match last April, is expected to make his Strikeforce debut later this Fall against an opponent to be named.
Fans will be able to see all the 'action' go down live via HDNet on fight night.

I can’t wait until someone just totally destroys Fedor, then I will not have to hear about how great he is anymore. A sparring match? Who gives a shit? Fedor has the most padded record of anyone that is in the p4p discussion. His best wins are against 2 guys who have not done well at all against UFC fighters. I will watch him fight on Showtime, but it will be a freezing day in hell before I buy a ppv for Strikforce. He will never fight the best, so he will never be the best.

I agree with you and I dont care whoever Fedor fights against I will be rooting for the other guy.As much I liked the guy I want him to lose now. The point is that we hear all this about how Fedor is so great and I do not think anyone would dispute that he WAS one of the top Heavyweight in the world at one time. But when you run scared and will not fight to show you are the best what does that make you? Sure not the best anymore!!! At least BJ, GSP, Anderson, and Torres fight the best. Not a fckn SPARRING match against a fight not even in your weight class.
This just goes to show you what M-1 and strikefarce have to offer. Sweet sparring partner matches. I bet everyone in the world can’t wait for this one.

I’m getting sick of this crap! Look at this from this point of view:
Shane Carwin vs. Brett Rodgers (both have similar records with only 1 quality win, and that’s being generous to Carwin, who also looked in trouble for most of the fight, have same KO power, same size).
Randy Couture vs. Josh Barnett (sure, Couture is more popular and Barnett is on roids, but who beat whom in their match up? Not to mention, Barnett is younger by almost 15 years and is far more dangerous)
Frank Mir vs. Fabricio Werdum (Mir lost to guys like Vera, and Werdum is much more better at bjj)
Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva (Silva would probably murder Cain)
Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem (Overeem has imposing size and dangerous all around game, unlike Brock. His days of being an underachieving LHW are over).
UFC has money-making match-ups, but any fan of MMA would know that the better list of opposition is outside the UFC.

Carwin vs Rodgers, my money on Carwin. Same power standing but Carwin has a ground game.
Couture vs Barnett, I’d go with Barnett but he’s never going to fight outside of Japan again so is irrelevant.
Mir vs Werdum, quite close, but if the Werdum who fought Fos Santos shows up then he’d get beaten.
Cain would destroy Antonio Silva.
Lesnar would destroy Overeem. The guy was sh!t at LHW and juicing up 40 lbs woud do nothing for his suspect stamina. Lesnar would take it to the ground in under 5 seconds and pound out overeem with ease. Unlikely Overeem would get past a drug test also so again could be irrelevant.
The real competition is all in the UFC!

Silva and Barnett won’t fight in the US again, Silva blew it by fighting in Japan during a suspension and Barnett is failed one too many drug tests, the latest one causing a promotion to fold.
Overreem hasn’t fought in the US for 2 years and doesn’t look like he will anytime soon.
Werdum is coming off a disappointing spell in the UFC where he put on a poor display against AA and came in out of shape and was destroyed by the unknown Dos Santos, taking away his good performances against Vera and Gonzaga.
The only HW outside of the UFC that I am interested in seeing Fedor fight right now is Rogers, but after what happened to AA, SF seem wary of putting Rogers up against their HW posterboys. I’d much rather see Fedor-Rogers than Fedor and Mousasi fooling around in an exhibition match.
With the likes of Brock, Randy, Cain, Carwin and Dos Santos, as well as legends Cro Cop and Big Nog, the UFC HW division is the strongest in MMA and Fedor showed a lot of disrespect towards the promotion and its fighters by turning down their offer then publically insulting it and the UFC. After that I’m done sticking up for Fedor and he can finish his career having fake fights and freakshows for all I care.

WHY would Zuffa do as you suggest? Why? There is NO POINT. The MMA World agrees that Zuffa has signed the best fighters in the world. Maybe not all of them, but 90% or so of them. So what would be in Zuffa’s favor to even participate in an event to showcase rival organizations fighters to prove what the vast majority already agrees? That is free publicity and free RELEVANCY to these organizations that Zuffa did not have to extend to them. The smart business move is to trash them and let the majority agree that they are nothing more than poor upstarts. End of story.

You realize that Fedor has not really lost a fight. Randy Couture has barely ever won three straight fights and he is a Hall of famer. Randy is 2 – 6 againist UFC champs. Fedor is 7-0. Brock Lesnar has fought a total of 5 times. He beat an old, small couture, lost in 30 seconds to Frank (not the face) Mir, an won a rematch. Brandon Vera also knocked out Mir in 30 seconds and Vera is a bum. Lesnar is a bum, he will get knocked out by another bum named Newlon. You must realize that the three best heavies in world are not in the UFC (Fedor, Babyface, Fabricio). Any of them and many many others would beat your pro wrestler in a munute or less. Go watch wrestling you hicks. MMA is for intelligent fans who prefer Dream, Strikeforce, and Pride reruns. We do not prefer stupid shit fighting inside a cage ( once again WWE-like).

A little slow – its Monday. And I opted to watch Hung, Entourage and Megan wants a Millionaire all before watching WEC. So I didn’t get to start watching WEC until 12:30. I was falling asleep a bit during the Curran fight and was planning on going to bed and watching the rest in the morning. Cuz you can’t come to Mania with the event on your DVR! But, since there was only the main event, I opted to fight thru my heavy eyelids. The fight ended and I was SHOCKED! From the first time Torres got dropped I was completely awake. Then I couldnt fall back to sleep till 4:55 (thanks 4:20) and then had to be at work…

Before this weekend I thought Anderson Silva wouldn’t stand a chance against Fedor (like GSP doesn’t against Silva). But after seeing Silva’s power at 205 on 2 occasions. I think he’s BETTER at 205!! I know Silva walks around at 220 and Fedor walks around at 230, I think this would be a great fight! I know Fedor’s punches are way more unconventional than Forrests so Anderson wouldn’t see those coming as easily, so I got Fedor still winning. FEDOR PLEASE SEE THE LIGHT AND GO TO THE UFC. If not, Silva should forget about Roy Jones Jr. and fight Fedor after his UFC contract is up.

Wrong sir. He may have been the best a few years ago but now he just another big fish in a little pond. You have to beat the best to be the best. Strikeforce does not have the best HW’s in the world so we won’t know if Fedor is still the best until his contract is up and he actually fights a worth HW. Guess we’ll just have to wait another year or 2 and see if Fedor can eventually find his nads during that time and then fight one of the best.

ok so beating sylvia and arlovski doesnt qualify as wins against some of the best. lets see, sylvia just came off a fite with nogeuira and was a top 5 heavyweight at the time and so was arklovski. both are former ufc champs, and yea i know they got beat by mercer and rodgers but they were no joke when they fought fedor. i dont think fedor would probably beat lesnar due to the size difference. fedors frame is probably more suited for lhw but he’s probably just too lazy to cut the weight.
fedor as taken on the best and beaten them all, he would have beaten barnett as well most likely. i wish he was in the ufc too but at least enjoy the guy fighting somewhere. maybe he’ll come to his sense one day and want to come to the ufc

He has said all along that he would fight in the ufc if there was a joint promotion. ufc wont budge, this is something he believes in give a guy a break!! and lets be serious anyone who watches MMA you think kongo, Mir, Cain, Carwin, Brock would really give Fedor a challenge. As for anderson, i cant wait for hendo to fight him again or GSP or a light heavyweight that is legit. Forrest was the worst matchup ever. He has no knock out power, he goes forward against a counter puncher, and his chin is suspect. Dumb matchup. This was just to get peopleback on the anderson train after his brutal fights against cote and leites.

Lets see how your Fedor assesment stacks up; Renato is LIGHT HW, Herring + Coleman + Cro Cop have not done anything in the UFC heavyweight division, Tim Sylvia was released for sucking Ball$, Nog is off and on, beat Herring & Sylvia then lost to Mir who WAS DESTROYED BY LESNAR, so that leaves you with ONE MASSIVE NAME THAT I WOULD AGREE WITH, ARLOVSKI. So he beat 1 guy that might do ok in the UFC right now, NOT IN THE PAST.
NONE of these fighters are near the top 5 heavyweights in the UFC, look at all of their track records.
Top 5 UFC; Lesnar, Valasquez, Carwin, Mir, Couture, with Dos Santos on their heels…
Fedor would have a very tough time with all 6 of these fighters.
Anderson, beat Marquardt, Henderson, Franklin, all 3 are easily in the top 10, demolished Griffin whos in the top 10 LHW, and will be soon to fight Belfort or Okami which both of these guys are top 5 or close to it. All current standings.
So I think the only way to validate this dispute is have Fedor come to the UFC, oh wait he won’t because he is a SCARED TO GET BEAT…!

There’s some angry UFC fans here. Maybe because the best fighter in the world is not fighting in UFC? Thank Dana for that or then again maybe it was a great move for UFC fans so you won’t have to pay a high price to watch the best in the business. I know you look up stuff on paper and stats and who he beat and what were there records, but how many of you have actually seen him fight??? I cannot stand fans who sit there and redicule a fighter when they have not even seen the guy fight before. It is like my buddy who has an opinion about everything that has to do with sports, but he rarely actually watches the actual sporting event. He simply just looks at the statistics and listens to other peoples opinions and pawns it off as his own. It’s not like the UFC is just overwhelmed with great heavyweights. The heavyweight division in the UFC is by far the weakest weight class In the UFC as a whole. So Fedor wants to fight in his backyard for a little while, it’s understandable. You know he is going to fight lesnar eventually. Who would win? Who knows, but you cannot sit there probably wearing a cute little affliction shirt that is two sizes too small for you roided out arms that you just bought in the past year claiming that you are a ufc fighter;If I had a dime for everytime I heard that now-a-days haha and tell me that you would bet a large sum of your own money against fedor no matter who is standing in front of him.

To everybody who’s dissing Crocop and Nogueira because of Fedor… Look, if you don’t like Fedor, don’t bring other fighters into it. They aren’t destroying people in the UFC like in Pride because they’re out of their prime. Their time has passed. But believe me, Crocop and Nogueira are no pussies. And neither is Fedor.
As far as fighting Lesnar, I think it would be a great fight, but I don’t think Lesnar would stand a chance. At least not yet. I don’t like him, but I do respect him. And he IS dangerous, but as the past has proved, being bigger, stronger, a world-reknowned submission specialist, or having the deadliest head kick in MMA hasn’t brought Fedor down yet.
And if you read this and still think Fedor is a pussy, let Kevin Randleman suplex YOU on your head, and still have enough of your wits about you to reverse and submit him. Let Crocop kick YOU in the head, and then go on to beat the shit out of him and win a decision UNANIMOUSLY.

vitaly i totally agree people really have know idea what there even talking about. pride had the most of the best fighters yes the ufc had lots but why did the ufc buy out pride… because the comp was to much when they moved over to america to start doing shows they would have won the ufc so dana bought them out and got most of their fighters. to name a few, wandy, rampage, hendo, silva and silva lost in pride actually. vitor, coleman when he was good
