I owuld like to talk about someoone relevant like JOn JOnes:
“We’re going to be working with Greg Jackson of course and the entire team that works with Georges St. Pierre will be working with Jon Jones. I expect a lot from this kid man. This kid is the real thing. I trained with him this morning and I’ve trained with a lot of fighters; this kid is the real thing. I see a lot of St. Pierre in him.”
Firas Zahabi, commenting on the newest member of Tristar gym, Jon Jones.-BE
FYI: JOnes would BASH TITO!
by john G on Aug 5, 2009 6:17 PM EDT up reply actions
Sweet, Jones is at Jackson’s camp now? The LHW division should be worried about that.

by JoW on Aug 5, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Nah, Jones is with Firas and GSP, but Jones will get to train with Jackson’s camp as well
by john G on Aug 5, 2009 6:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Johnny Bones is a good guy. But is he training primarily out of Tristar or Greg Jackson’s? I dont know if he’d get much out of training out of Tristar most the time, then a few weeks at Jacksons. I’d rather he stay full time at Jackson’s and only train with Firas when GSP comes down.
Off topic from the topic that is currently off topic (did I lose you there?) — Anyone hear about Ed Herman replacing Irvin vs Willy~G? I dont know how accurate that is, but I seen it on MMAPlayground
by Synyster on Aug 5, 2009 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, my mistake. The Jackson camp guys come up to Tri-star once in a while. Cool.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 5, 2009 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions
Ah, John you answered my question there. A young guy like Jones will improve no matter where hes at, but the quality of training partners is SO much better at Jackson’s. Training with GSP is great, but thats about it. Cote, Loiseau, and whoever else they have is great for the current stage that Jones is at, but he should definitely move to Jackson’s full time with Shad, Jardine, Marquardt, Carwin, Cerrone, Garcia.. (granted the last 2 may not help as much, but talent it talent)
by Synyster on Aug 5, 2009 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions
If that is true Synyster that sounds like a gimme for Wilson and it definitaly won’t help his fight get promoted to the main card. Having that dude on the undercard should be a crime. I would bet he is way up there on the list of most Fight/Sub/KO of the night honors. Wilson ALWAYS brings it, when he doesn’t gas. ;-) War Wilson!
by BNF on Aug 5, 2009 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions
There’s no question that Bones will be dominant, I just hope he stays exciting.
by rockwell on Aug 5, 2009 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Synyster you are right about TriStar, but Firas & his brother are one of the best trainers out there hands down. As a trainer Firas can do wonders w/a new cat like Jones. I am sure Jones will be a top 5 eventually but still has a lot of work to do. He’s a young cat that is already impressive bu so was GSP when he got KO’s by Serra. I need to see Jones a couple more times before I start praising him.
by neeko on Aug 5, 2009 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions
Firas hasnt proven anything! The only fighter he trains worth a damn is GSP, and GSP was aways great! If Firas can take a guy like JOnes to thhe next level, then we can start calling Firas GREAT!

Firas is a good guy and excellent trainer. I have no prob with you since you seem to like Arlovski, but I don’t like when people talk shit about someone they don’t know and have never met or have ever worked with.

I think Tito is like a shark with a sense of blood in the water when the old timers are put in front of him. I would like to see him fight Forrest again or Rampage, I think he would beat Rampage but lose to Forrest. Both would have the potential to be very close fights and they would be BIG draws

I saw an interview where Page was told that Tito said he would fight him if the money was right. Page had this look of shock and hurt and said, “Oh uhh I din’t know he said that.”

And so were Liddell and Ortiz back in the day. Look at what happened, hehe!
by Syd on Aug 5, 2009 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions
Well he’s always been cocky, and in all honesty Coleman is definitley a tune up fight; but given his time off, the surgery, the ring rust factor and the fact that Coleman’s actually not doing all that bad lately; he could get upset if he’s not careful. Coleman might be an old man but he’s not going to get rag dolled like Ken Shamrock, 2 completely different people.
by M1Globalcansuckmyballs(Formerly ODHGC) on Aug 5, 2009 3:23 PM EDT reply actions
Yes. Tito always talks trash, but it’s not in his best interest in this case. He is coming off a long layoff and is going to look like an ass again if he struggles against Coleman. He should keep the disrespect to a dull roar until he sees how well this fight goes, IMO. I guess if things don’t go as expected he could always get back to selling sweat-soaked handwraps to mongoloids.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 5, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions
Tito didn’t disrespect anybody much less Mark Coleman. He said that there aren’t any warmup fights in the UFC and that Coleman had good fights against Rua and Bonnar. Also, that he was a friend who tito really liked and got along with. I would hardly call that disrespect.
by Adam T. on Aug 5, 2009 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m saying he shouldn’t START talking trash in this case. And if a fight is arranged with Coleman, he invariably will. It just seems like Tito is bitching when he’s matched up with Chuck and Machida, and whining if the guy he’s fighting isn’t a big enough name. I am impressed with his demeanor so far though.

For sure. Shammy and the Hammer are night and day.
Coleman has weapons but Tito is getting fed the right opponent for UFC re-entry. Tito has some real risk against a Jon Jones (creative striking and wrestling galore – lil’ experience) or Bahna Cane. These guys could give him a tune up but with the risk of getting KTFO.
Coleman not so much. But he is tough and experienced.
Just because I know it would stir up a lot of debate I’m hoping for Vera vs Ortiz by next Feb pending they both win.

Tito is ok in my book, even though I can see his BS a mile away, he was a good TUF coach and that goes a long way with me, any card he’s ever fought on has been a great card and Ive never missed a fight, now having said that. I think it’s the casual fans that really think Tito is the sh*t because of his name recognition. IMO he’s just a gate keeper and anyone with great hands and good takedown defense will beat the living hell outta him.
by DAVE A on Aug 5, 2009 3:45 PM EDT reply actions
Completely agreed Dave A, especially about the TUF thing, I really had a lot of disdain for Tito until I saw what a dedicated coach and human being he was for those TUF fighters, call me sentimental I guess. I don’t know it’s probably just me hoping but, I would like to think Tito has started to evolve and can do more now with the back surgurey, cmon we saw him almost complete a triangle against a BJJ black belt. It’s weird I don’t know why I hope that he is evolving because I do not really ever root for him either haha.
by Edgecrusher71 on Aug 5, 2009 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions
‘Sentimental’ (agreed! lol) yeah with the exception of Couture, Liddell fights, I secrectly root for Tito most of the time (dont tell anyone). Titos hands have gotten somewhat better over the years, but his footwork sucks. I think his conditioning will be better without the back pain which is a major key for his style of fighting… he should be able to handle Coleman. Both are sentimental favorites for me, don’t know who I’m going to root for yet… ’’arrrgh’’

Welcome back Tito, the one thing I can say about Tito is he’s a smart business man, he puts the differences aside and he knows where the $$$ is at and where the competition is at. Good luck against Coleman.
by Ed C on Aug 5, 2009 3:54 PM EDT reply actions
Surprisingly Tito actually has bigger balls than Fedor.
by UFC Champ on Aug 5, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions
I think Tito is better than a gatekeeper at LHW. Stephan Bonner might be a gatekeeper at this point. But if you look at the most recent LHW Champs (Machida, Rashad, Griffin), Tito basically gave Machida his only scare to date in the UFC, went to a draw with Rashad, and beat Griffin.
I think he is a little limited by his lack of great stand-up, but I am curious to see how much better he can or will be with his back 100%. He should be able to wear out Coleman. After that there are a number of interesting match-ups: Jon Jones, Rua if he gets beaten by Machida. If he looks good in these fights, the rematches with Forrest/Rashad loom.
Glad he is back and he is a factor. Would not be totally surprised if he works his way back into contention. Would love to see him fight Rampage, but it won’t be for the title because no one is beating Machida any time soon.

Tito says the same thing about Rashad and Griffin but the difference is, I think Rashad and Griffin really improved when the won the belt and Tito can no longer handle either of these guys, they would win… decisively.

i agree dave, it annoys me wen tito says he beat rashad and that he can hangwith the big dogs, its a joke..
by guyverbob on Aug 5, 2009 6:00 PM EDT up reply actions
Bonnar would have to win fights to be a gatekeeper. See in the WW division Marcus Davis is a great example wins 2 loses 1
wins again. I like Bonnar but he needs a W in the worst way.
Tito vs Rampage would end badly. If tito had insomnia that would be a good fight for him.
by Big Zino on Aug 5, 2009 4:05 PM EDT reply actions
Bonner’s takedown defense looked like a Junior Varsity Wrestlers level. Bonner’s not gate keeper status right now, he’s trying to workup to that status. Bonner was off for a long time I think the UFC will give him a couple of more fights at the very least, hes one of their posterboys and needs time to get back into the fight game much like Mir needed time.
by DAVE A on Aug 5, 2009 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Oh there you are Adam G. You said this on an earlier thread:
“do you make up quotes all the time or what. watch penn say tonight on the countdown "Im not looking past Florian, not at all, BUT im gonna beat him, im gonna beat the next guy, and the next guy, and if GSP’s still around, we’ll see, what goes around comes around . . ." . . . . . . Sounds exactly like "I am never going back up to 170″ huh, exactly the same . . . tard! ODHGC is fooling me to, friggin panzy”.
Go to Youtube and search for the video called: “message to Kenny” and you will hear your little brat of yours say exactly that: “I am never going back to 170”. After that you may come back here and apologize for your ignorance and stupidity. It’s not my fault if your little man says one thing and the contrary the next day.

I have been a fan of Tito’s for a while, which put me in the minority. I appreciated his ability to talk a great game and put himself over. But his legacy of injuries, outside distractions and lack of evolution will prevent him from being an elite fighter these days. He doesn’t really have to prove anything but there are some interesting matchups for him yet.
by Drake_Labatt on Aug 5, 2009 4:53 PM EDT reply actions
Fact: Tito came the closest to beating Machida of anyone
Yes, he lost 99% of the fight…but he had Machida in a DEEP triangle, and should have finished but he sucks at BJJ
Fact: Tito BEAT Forrest and Rashad
People clown Tito, but they forget how he did against some of the division’s “elite”. He whopped on Forrest, and he beatdown Rashad (yes, I know it was a draw…but only because Tito grabbed the fence, he beat Rashad 2 rounds to 1 easy though).
Tito will do some damage…anyone with wrestling as good as his, will take guys down and his GnP is some of the best in MMA
by The Truthster on Aug 5, 2009 4:53 PM EDT reply actions
Tito got lucky with the draw. If he had gone down instead of holding onto the fence he would have lost the fight. He cheated and still only managed a draw.
by NorthStar on Aug 5, 2009 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions
Tito whooped on Forrest for one round. Then he got owned in the stand-up. He will always be a tough out but he will never again be a top-5 fighter. Saying he “beat down Rashad” is ridiculous. If Tito doesn’t grab the fence he gets taken down and probably controlled for the rest of the round. I love it when people act like that rule exists for no reason.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 6, 2009 1:54 AM EDT up reply actions
If you beat a guy in the last couple years, you beat him. We all know that Forrest and Rashad have improved, but so what? Perhaps Tito was not at his best when he fought them because if his back issues.
I’m not some big Tito fan, but a lot of people act like he’s a scrub or something when all recent evidence shows that he’s not. Machida has decapitated his last two opponents (Thiago Silva and Rashad) and made it look easy. Before that he fought Tito and it went the distance and Tito came within a c-hair of subbing him. Granted, Machida was winning that fight handily, but no one else has even made him break a sweat.
I think Tito is lacking the complete game that will get him the belt back, but in top condition he is absolutely a factor in the division. He’s got W’s over Wandy, Belfort, Griffin, and let’s face it he beat Rashad.
The only guy I see owning him is Machida. He is a factor against everyone else, whether he would beat them or not.
by revjames13 on Aug 5, 2009 4:59 PM EDT reply actions
Word!
The only thing I’d disagree on is that Machida owned Ortiz. I don’t think anyone’s going to take my back on this but here’s the way I see it:
The UFC is supposed to be scored on "effective striking, grappling, aggression and octagon control". Regardless of how you score the striking and grappling, I’ve got to give aggression and octagon control to Tito (and most of Machida’s opponents). Machida’s style is to backpedal, make you constantly come forward then counter as soon as you throw or enter the pocket. Rashad is the same but Machida’s a little better at bouncing in and out of the pocket once in a while with a nice jab.
I understand Machida’s style and it’s smart, you tend to take less punishment than the sluggers. And if the UFC judges are going to give you points for running laps backward around the ring then you can’t blame Machida for it. But the way I see it, aggression and octagon control are demonstrated by the guy who’s coming forward and initiating the fight. In Machida vs. Ortiz this was 99% Ortiz. Ya Ortiz took more punishment but sometimes that’s the price you have to pay for initiating contact. I’m not saying Ortiz should have got the decision but if aggression would get scored a little higher by the judges then that fight gets a lot closer. As it stands now, the UFC needs to change the catch phrase to "effective striking, grappling and who’s face looks better after the round"
by H.I. McDunnough on Aug 5, 2009 8:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Thiago Silva, Rampage, Shogun, Machida, Henderson at 205. All these guys would kill Tito. Id throw in Rashad too as his striking is much better now.

Hopefully Tito gets back to the top. He’s a showman and people remember him. He’s one of those people that stands out from the crowd, so he’s good for the sport of MMA. He’s especially good for the UFC. If he comes back as an evolved fighter and trained with Greg Jacksons came and ATT, he will definitely get the kind of training he needs to take his career to the next level. Hopefully he doesn’t just train with a bunch of scrubs and think he’s going to win fights in the UFC. He needs to learn from GSP. Train with the best so you can become the best.
