Scott Coker: Fedor Emelianenko vs Alistair Overeem 'should be an amazing fight'

Props: TapouT Radio (via BloodyElbow.com)
Quoteworthy:
"Although the deal with Strikeforce is an exclusive one, it’s far from a contract signed in blood as Fedor is currently contractually obligated to fight for Strikeforce for just one year. Basically it’s three fights over the next year, and we’ll start in the fall some time… The very first fight that Fedor fights will be on Showtime, and then the roll-out of television from there forward hasn’t been determined 100%, but his first fight will be on Showtime. [Fedor] and Alistair Overeem should be an amazing fight, and people that haven’t seen Alistair, you know, he’s an amazing fighter.. I think we should do a couple of fights and build that one up, and then let their champion fight our champion, and let’s see what happens. We’re hoping that Alistair will be ready to fight in the Fall, and we can put him on one of the cards with Fedor, and not fight against each other but fight against someone else, and let’s build that fight up."

It could be a good fight. But unless strikeforce starts signing some high quality HW there aren’t that many fights for Fedor. Maybe 2 or 3? I wish he would of signed UFC, he has at least 5 and the prospects there grow leaps and bounds.

I don’t understand. So Fedor has to fight a can before fighting Alistair? Why don’t they give the #1 HW in the world their best match up right away?
by Georges St. Penn'iere on Aug 4, 2009 10:52 AM EDT up reply actions
Cause they don’t have any depth in their division, either he’s fighting cans now or cans afterward, they can’t offer him top shelf competition all 3 fights cause the guys just aren’t there.

Alistair’s losses:
2 to Shogun (LHW)
2 losses to Nogueria
1 loss to Chuck Liddel (LHW)
1 loss to Werdum
1 No Contest with Cro Cop
Far from impressive resume.
by Georges St. Penn'iere on Aug 4, 2009 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions
To be fair, his bouts at LHW were before he was as big as he is now. He really was a 205er at the time those fights happened. Course he was still bigger than both Chuck and Shogun at the time regardless.

Basically Alistair Overeem is the consensus #10 Heavyweight in the world.
Bloody Elbow has him ranked #10 behind 5 UFC guys and 2 Strikeforce guys. Behind AA who got KO’ed twice in 2 fights.
2 Brock Lesnar
3 Josh Barnett
4 Frank Mir
5 Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
6 Randy Couture
7 Shane Carwin
8 Brett Rodgers
9 Arlovski
Sherdog has #10 also behind:
3 Brock Lesnar
4 Frank Mir
5 Nogueira
6 Couture
7 Rodgers
8 AA
9 Carwin
10 Alistair

No shit. If he was as big then as he is now he wouldn’t have been a LHW. And if he was as small now as he was then he wouldn’t be on the roids.

Wouldn’t it be hilarious to see Overeem give him the ole cro cop right to family jewels three times. I’d love to see Fedor keeled over holding his crotch and have Strikeforce’s BIG match up end in a DQ…LOL.

Fedor will fight Grim which isnt exactly a cakewalk!
Fedor only signed a 3 fight, 1 year deal…which means he will face: Grim, Overeem and Werdum (but thats not guarenteed because by that time they could sign a better heavyweight). affliction was having shows once a year, now we get to see Fedor fight 3 times over the course of a year! Music to my ears!!!!!!!!!!
This is only a 1 year deal and after that, maybe Dana will change his mind about co-promotion! Yes, I am an optimist!

Bad news***
A truly disturbing news. The StrikeForce VP was on radio not long ago, and apparently it’s possible that when UFC took over some Affliction contracts they wanted Mousasi, but he didn’t come… So now they are trying to force him to come or to stop his next fight…

I have my doubts that Alistair will even bother to show up at Strikeforce, he always seems to weasel his way out of fighting in the US. I’d rather see Fedor-Grim anyway, so if that and Alistair-Werdum is on the same Showtime card then I’ll be happy, though I have a feeling that Fedor and Alistair are going to be wasted on cans. If that happens it would serve Coker right if one of them lost, I like SF but building up big names in that way really winds me up and is the sort of tactic that is ruining boxing, give us the big fights now not later.
John, mixed reactions on Mousasi, I’d love for him to join the UFC and after the Affliction debacle he sounded keen on joining the UFC but I don’t want his fight with Babalu ruined again, it would be a very petulent thing for Dana to do and will show that he doesn’t care about MMA having the best fights, he only wants them in his organisation. I can’t stand it when egos get in the way of big fights.
by David W-S on Aug 4, 2009 12:29 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m willing to sacrifice Mousasi vs Babalu to see them both back in the UFC, it’s been in place long enough, they can lift their ban on Babs, and I’m all for having the UFC stamp out the competition and be the only high level MMA org in business. I don’t ever want to see a top 10 fighter especially the #1 fighter consistently matched up against #10 and below. I want the best vs the best and if the UFC is the only place to be than that can finally happen. LETS GO MONOPOLY !! GET EM DANA!

Strikeforce and DREAM are expected to announce a partnership shortly that could see an exchange of fighters between the two promotions. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker revealed Monday night in a radio appearance on The Carmichael Dave Show that the No. 2 MMA promotion in America will enter into an “alliance” with Fighting Entertainment Group, the parent company of the No. 1 MMA promotion in Japan…
“We’ve talked about [the partnership] for a long time,” Coker said. “It’s finally going to happen now so maybe [Sergei] Kharitonov could fight Fedor at some point.”
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 4, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Wow!
You guys realize, we were all saying, “Kimbo Slice should fight Rogers to show us how good he really is”.
Fast forward about 12 months and now Strikeforce, and people are on here saying something very similar to “Fedor should fight Rogers to show us how good he really is”.
Sad, but I think that says more about Fedor than it does about Kimbo.

If I’m Dana, I wouldn’t want to damage Coker, but he might be collateral damage because I would do two things:
1. Aggressively counter program any event with Fedor
2. Try to sign any half-way legitimate opponent for Fedor even if I didn’t put them on TV in the UFC more than once.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Aug 4, 2009 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions
Yup Danna should do this, I’m dreaming but it would be great!!
Fedor’s first fight: Brock defends his Title on spike, while fedor gets showtime debut.
Fedor’s 2nd fight: Fedor fights another gimme and Spike shows Anderson, GSP and Florian(please!) defend their tittles.
Fedors 3rd fight: Dana delivers 5 tittle fight PPV plus Sanchez vs guida 2, Ortiz vs Lydel 4 and Carwin vs gonzaga
Then when strike force is Fawked, Dana can get Diaz, Babalu and moussassi. And the rest of the can’s can go fight in Japan where they can be circus bitches in a bunch of fixed non sactioned bouts.

I agree, Overeem has about 30-40 seconds to land a big shot and do some damage, after that they’re gonna end up in the clinch and on the ground.

STFU! Alistar is a great fighter…Its not Fedor’s fault that the ony HW alive that we can even think of giving Fedor problems is Brock! Alistar is GREAT, its not Fedor’s fault that he will outclass anyone!
If Alistar signed with the UFC today, you would all jump right on his nuts! Bandwagon Fockers!
I have a feeling this fight wil end via Fedor by TKO, g n P, one of those diving punches into his opponents side guard. Just how shogun Ko’ed him in their most recent fight!

No doubt it’s an interesting fight John, cause imo Overeem really COULD take him out, and has a chance (albeit a small one), but what about the spoon fed can they’re throwing at Fedor first? You really pumped up and excited about watching him fight chopped liver??

And you seem to be under the impression that he’s going to get Werdum, Grimm and Overeem in this three fight deal, up top it says he and Overeem are both going to do a couple fights so they can build them up. If Coker’s intentions are to “build them up” and build up a fight between them, I seriously doubt they’re going to be going up against credable opponents here.

john g, you STFU! Alistair is great? are you kidding me???? I am as big an Overeem fan as anyone, but only because he is exciting to watch… in no way, shape, or form is he great!! Fedor will take him down easily, and GnP his way to victory in the first round, same against Rodgers. You are right that its not Fedor’s fault there isnt great competition for him in Strikeforce, but it is his fault he decided to sign with them knowing all along there isnt good competition! Dana will definitely counter program every strikeforce event from now on. Just like Fedor did what is best for his business, Dana will also.
This is a war, and as for people ordering PPV it will be hard to turn down a stacked UFC card to see Fedor fight any of Strikeforce’s HW of which are ranked #8 and #10 HW in the world (according to Sherdog/Bloody Elbow).
Yes we will want to see the fight, but in the days of internet we can just watch the fight the next day online somewhere. Definitely not worth $50 for 1 fight. That is like ordering a boxing PPV that gives you only 1 quality fight.

You guys act like Fedor is going to fight a can like mike Pyle or something…Fedor vs, Grim is going to be the main event on the fall card. yOu call Grim a can, then Fock you! Personally I would also like to see Fedor vs. Arlovski 2. Alistar wont fight a can either. He will probaby matched up against someone like Buentello so stp your crying.
Instead of appreciating the fact that we will see Fedor fight top 15 competition 3 times a year, you guys are bitching that he is in the UFC. Bitch at Dana for not cross promoting! Dont bitch at Fedor. Is it that unreasonable or Fedor ask for cross promotion? He is trying to plug his business by using his GOAT status. Doesnt sound so unreasonable to me considering he has gotten what he wants from numerous organizations in the past and now M-1 Gobal will get to splatter their logo all over Showtime and eventually CBS. Why would Fedor accept the Ufc’s offer when he can get exactly what he wants elsewhere?
by john G on Aug 4, 2009 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions
Is it unreasonable to ask any business man to shell out 95% of the cost and split the profits in half? Really, Fedor is it. Who else do they have to cross promote with? So let me get this straight, If we were hanging out it would be reasonable for you to buy appetizers, dinner, drinks, the movie, and popcorn, but I’ll pay for dessert, deal? That is what people want Dana to do. Cross promote means more then offering Fedor. He is a crappy US draw to begin with, but Dana should cover 90% of the evening and M1 will just bring Fedor and all the sponsors gear. Find a business man willing to do that and you have found a business man that won’t be in business real long!
by Da Monkey on Aug 5, 2009 12:56 AM EDT up reply actions
Great post monkey. I been argueing the same myself. What M1 are doing can no way be described as “Co-promoting”. Leaching, spongeing, hijacking or piggybacking are better words to describe the arrangement.
by attakdog on Aug 5, 2009 4:31 AM EDT up reply actions
To answer your question, YES it is completely unreasonable for M-1 to ask for cross promotion with the UFC when they aren’t even in their league to begin with. I don’t blame Dana at all, he is protecting his brand, and he/UFC should not be expected to hand any % of their profits over to M-1 for any reason, that should be a deal between a fighter and a company, not 2 company’s and 1 fighter.
by M1Globalcansuckmyballs(Formerly ODHGC) on Aug 5, 2009 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions
Attack I had seenyou arguing that earlier and could respond from work…It is amazing to think that money and business aren’t the driving force here. I don’t care what promotion it is. Everyone says Dana doesn’t care about mma it is about money. Of course it is about money, how can he continually bring you the best of the best month after month, sometimes twice a month, without making about and making sound money/biz decisions. Brand is everything! Every mma company out theres ultimate goal is to make the most amount of profit while putting out the most marketable(BEST) fights (product). M1 offers 1 product in a catalog full of items. Yeah it maybe one of the best things in the catalog, but nodoby is going to order it if it unreasonably priced or doesn’t perform the way it is supposed to.

BREAKING NEWS
Muhammad Ali is coming out of retirement for one last hoo rah, some say he can’t do it, some say he’s too old, some say the parkinsons has set in too bad, but “The Greatest” isn’t having any of it! The kicker? He’s jumping right into MMA to face Fedor Emelienanko! Here’s more from Scott Coker:
“This really could be the greatest fight in MMA history; we’re looking at a man who is pound for pound the greatest boxer on the planet; Ali hasn’t fought in a while so I expect a little ring rust, but the man is in terrific condition. Parkinsons? Never heard of it; anyhoo; this is going to be the greatest challenge of Fedor’s carreer, if he can beat a legend like Ali, who’s only slightly past his prime, than he truely is the greatest fighter on the planet!”
by O damn he got caught on Aug 4, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions
First, Strikeforce hasn’t announced Fedor’s first fight, so assuming it’s a “can” is just that, an assumption. Second, I can’t believe you guys are talking about Strikeforce hyping up fights when the UFC had most casual fans thinking that Frank Mir was arguably the best HW in the world before UFC 100. If anyone is good at hyping fights at any cost it’s the UFC. That’s why most of you thought that Alves and Penn were going to beat GSP, while some of us knew there was a very slim chance of that happening. I bet there are some people posting above that were actually really impressed when A. Silva beat "Super feared, devastating striker JAMES “THE SANDMAN” IRVIN" to help cement his spot as UFC’S proclaimed “best fighter on the planet”. Remember what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
by Diceman on Aug 4, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Well Diceman, as far as the posts up top about hyping up a fight, it’s just for fun, havin a couple laughs. Imo, winning against Nog earned Frank is Title shot against Brock. I’m not sure how thats part of the argument though, if you’re opinion is that Mir is complete garbage and not a top fighter then thats your opinion. As for Fedor’s situation it says up top that Coker wants to build him up to fight Overeem. So by default at the very least he’s gonna go up against someone that isn’t considered/recognized as being good as Overeem. Then the whole “build up” thing, leads me to believe Coker has a pre determined outcome that he’d like to see come to fruition. Maybe they didn’t throw around the cash that the UFC did in aquiring Fedor, but he’s got to be their high dollar guy. I don’t see them risking him against a dangerous guy other than Overeem or Brett Rodgers, so imo this next fight will be a gimme.

Strikeforce has been searching for the #2 fighter in the world to take on the world’s #1, Fedor Emelianenko. After a long negotiation process and contract dispute, Scott Cokehead got the deal done. But Fedor’s opponent also needed to get his job done, and he did!!! Jason “The Punisher” Lambert needed to add some weight for the CSAC to allow the worlds undisputed #2 fighter to take on Mr. Emelianenko. What better part of the body for Jason Lambert to add weight other than his sausage tits? Jason has been eating smorgasbords of premium Italian sausage and lucky for him, all of the weight has gone straight to his man boobs. Now once Fedor takes Lambert to the ground, he won’t know whether he should ground and pound him or suckle those big fat titties!

I think it’s a bit presumptive to say that because Coker is trying to build a fight up that this will necessarily mean that they are going to fight cans. I’m just saying that the UFC tries to build fights up too, but nobody wants to say anything about that. Which is why I said what’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

At UFC 103 we bitched at the main event what did UFC do? We got Belfort. But really Strikeforce only has one or two other fighters and I’m sure they don’t want to throw there star Rogers in right now against Fedor?
by Puck Head on Aug 4, 2009 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Yea but realistically the competition in the UFC between the two combatants is closer to a level playing field. Mir did beat Brock the first time around and there were a lot of people given his skill set that thought he could do it again. And a lot of people that thought Brock was gonna smash him. I just mean the build up to that fight was realistic, either guy coulda won that fight. I’m just not sold on the idea that marketing Fedor vs TBA #?? HW fighter as a legit fight when you’re obviously bias towards building one guy up is the most exciting thing out there.

Let’s see, you have the best fighter in the world for 1 year and 3 fights and you are going to wait 2-3 months to get him a fight, when he is ready now, and that fight will be agaisn’t a can. I wonder who the genious is who thought to handle it that way? Strikeforce or Fedor?

It is odamn. Fedor turns down the UFC and a guaranteed first fight for the belt, to fight two cans then Overeem in Strikeforce. Talk about testing yourself to the limits!

Th co-promotion, thing is the dumbest thig they could have done, Strike Force has gotten some momentum lately and their going to bring it to a halt with this move.
Fedor has just been fighting UFC outcasts, and it doesnt look like it will be changing anytime soon.
Overated overeem, is a joke. The Fact that fedor gets a couple of can fight prior the match-up make even more laughable.
I want this clown taken off the best P4P list all together.
Nick Diaz do not sign with Strike Farce after this contract PLEASE!
by RoJ on Aug 4, 2009 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions
To be fair Diaz has been given some big fights in Strikeforce and the WW and MW divisions are their strongest right now. I’ve enjoyed his catchweight fights and he’s doing well for himself in SF, it’d be great to see him and Shields in the UFC but right now I’m happy for both of them to be fighting in SF.
It’s the HW division that is the weak link because Overreem never even fights in the US anymore, he doesn’t even look like the same guy that destroyed Buentello for the belt. Fedor-Overreem would be a good first fight but it’s going to get put off because Coker must know that Alistair isn’t coming back and other than Grim and Werdum (who hasn’t even fought in SF yet) there is nobody else for Fedor to fight.

Fedor isn’t fighting top competition.
His career was phenomenal but now seems limited and a bit sad. No sports icons have ever done this, I don’t see him as an MMA icon any longer. He was but since he is in the prime of his career we would like to see the best fights of his career.

I have to admit I didn’t know to much about Overeem, so I watched a couple of his fights from the pride days. 2 fights, two losses and im not sure he will last 2 minutes with Fedor. The guys has a terrible ground game and opens himself up to so many subs and gets pounded from all angles on the ground, but its easier in pride to ground and pound with the knees to the head. He looks like a body type for lightheavy, but maybe just bulked up now, not a true heavy. Hits ok, but gets hit too. Weak chin and I didn’t see a great deal of heart. He should have beaten Chuck, but didn’t have the heart that Chuck did and just gave up agianst Arona. Im not going to be excited to watch Overeem become another notch on Fedor’s little girl bed post. I will watch the highlights and pretty much see the entire fight im sure.

Three fights over a year against Werdum, Rogers, and Overeem would be good. Its not the UFC, but they are interesting match-ups nontheless.
Does anyone know who many fights Couture has left on his contract? If he losses against Nogueira and is through with his contract, I could definitely see him signing a 1 fight deal with SF to face Fedor.

I have to move on and accept this, but part of me really lost respect for Fedor on this. It screams padding of record, ok he is a great, awesome fighter and beaten alot of great fighters (ages ago) and appears to be a top guy. But i think he is scared of the brut that is Brock Lesner. I never wanted Brock to beat Randy, i then didn’t want Brock to beat Mir. After that i just wanted Fedor in the UFC to shut that clown up. But now i’m fully behind Brock and in my eyes is the most dangerous HW about.

Strikeforce seemed to be on the right track until this. When its all said and done, I will be curious to see how much Strikeforce had to cough up to M1 to Co-promote just to have Fedor. I think this may kill them after a year.

Overeem would be a great fight but that would be a warm up in the UFC. imagine
Fedor Vs Brock
Fedor Vs Randy
Fedor Vs Carwin
Fedor Vs Mir
and the greatest one of them all………………..
Fedor Vs Kimbo (sorry that was a joke)
But each of the 4 above i would rather see, infact i thought UFC were thinking about signing Overeem. If that could happen it would be awesome as Strikeforce really wouldn’t have any CAN’s for fedor to feed on.
by Dixon on Aug 4, 2009 11:08 AM EDT reply actions
This is not a good move IMO! For a number of reasons!
First it is the best fight they can put on right now. Funny how you need to build the worlds #1 fighter up. Too much to risk! Either could lose in any one of these fights. Overeem also fights in Japan alot so how long of a wait can there be, there is also the chance he could get hurt over there.
I could see I guess
Fedor Vs Rogers
Overeem Vs Werdum
But either could lose it is possible thus taking away there really only big fight the mass media may draw too.
there best bet would be to put on there biggest fight possible to gain as much attention as possible after signing Fedor!
Also put on the soaring Rogers on the same card, who has the ability to pump fights up, He has a certain brash, thug, or badguy attitude, that would do well Vs Fedors quite demeanor! Build Rogers up, he has already disposed of AA. I’m not a fan of easy fights, but he is young and Strikeforce is desperate for big fights for Fedor!
Then while all of this is going on put on a 8 man tournament over 9 months.
1. Yvel
2. Buentello
3. Werdum
Sign a few of the up and coming HWs that the UFC hasnt, (which by the way the UFC has been gobbling up young HW talent)
Maybe a
4. Kharitonov
5. Shilt
6. Roger Gracie
7. Alexi Oleinik (M1 guy)
8. Damien Grabowski
And the winner can fight Fedor in his last fight on his contract. This
There are 3 sure fire ways to build stars in MMA!
1. Win in dominating fashion in title fights (Machidas star is rising fast, alot more fans cheer for this guy now)
2. Win wars (fights fans talk about all yr long)
3. Win tournaments (see the old day the winners were instant stars and see TUF)

SF already have Roger Gracie, he’s fighting on their next show. Hopefully he’ll live up to the hype on the big stage because he has the potential to be a threat to Fedor and could be what SF need to build up their HW division.

Every UFC HW other than Lesnar is a “can”, if you put him in with Fedor.
At least Fedor has three decent fights in Strikeforce.
How many fights does Couture have remaining on his UFC contract?…..hmmmmmmm.
by introvert on Aug 4, 2009 11:11 AM EDT reply actions
Really what about
Carwin (as big and as strong as Brock)?
Junior Dos Santos (beat Weldum)?
Randy? (Still got it, giving Brock his best fight)
Mir? (Ground game is awesome)
I think each of those 4 excluding Brock would give him a better fight then any of the Strikeforce guys. But i’m very interested to see how far Brett Rogers can go.
by Dixon on Aug 4, 2009 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions
Carwin has beaten nobody as of yet to even consider him a threat to Fedor.
Dos Santos….same thing.
Randy needs to beat Nog, and even if he does…Fedor beat Nog twice…and the Nog he beat twice was an “in his prime” Nog.
Mir….ha, even Mir stated not so long ago that Fedor would beat him up.
Nog…I love the guy, but Fedor owns him.
I’m not saying that the UFC guys are outright “cans”, but you put them in with Fedor…they are “cans”. That’s not Fedor’s fault.
After a Lesnar fight….there’s nothing left in the UFC for competition that is any better than Strikeforce.
That isn’t UFC “hate” either…that’s just fact.
by introvert on Aug 4, 2009 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions
Dos Santos has beaten Weldum, and Weldum is next in line for Fedor??? Rogers only big win is against a backward stepping AA so that doesn’t count. Kimbo would have had a chance that day
So Carwin is a can just becasue he hasn’t fought anyone in the top ten. dont think he can be classed as a can just on that basis, inexperience maybe. But he would hang in there with the best of them. He also beat Gonzaga who is no can, so for me he would destroy Overeem. Plus Overeem record isn’t great
Agreed Randy does need to beat Nog, but even one of those two would ask fedor more questions of fedor then any of the Strike force guys.
If there isn’t a HW in the UFC for Fedor to face ALL other HW’s around the world are worse then cans because all UFC HW would beat the others out there. So going on your theory Fedor should just fight Brock then retire.
Who has a better HW division then UFC? Don’t be bias
by Dixon on Aug 4, 2009 12:13 PM EDT up reply actions
I should know better, but o well here goes..
Dos Santos KO’d Werdum, thats probably SF’s #2 or #3 HW; Overeems been KO’d/destroyed by LHW’s in his carreer, thats their #1 HW and Grimm is still too green to be considered a credable threat to Fedor. Sh!t I’d give Herring a 50/50 shot at beating Overeem; and as far as Cain Valasquez and Shane Carwin, they’d kill any of those guys, maybe Werdum could play the sub game off his back and make somethin happen but doubtful. To be fair, I don’t really know about Rodgers, maybe he is the real deal and will prove to be a great HW fighter, but right now a 30 sec flash KO on AA doesn’t tell me enough about his all around game to make a judgment.
Anyway, it’s clear the better competition is by far and away in the UFC, unlike you guys who just assume Fedor is going to own anyone they put in front of him, I’d actually like to see it happen first before I just write everyone else off. And I’d like to see it happen against the BEST the division has to offer, not the second best set of HW’s in the #2 org. If you can call what they have in SF a division, cause seriously, outside of like 4-5 guys who else is there??

There’s like 4-5 guys in the SF HW division for god sakes!! come on…

You’ve got alot of “maybes, if’s, and’s, probably’s, and but’s” in that post, O damn.
The fact is that the Strikeforce guys (outside of Fedor) are interchangeable with the UFC guy’s (outside of Brock…and even he is “green”)…you can all do the math and write all the scenarios you want…..as long as every fighter that Fedor faces is an underdog, it doesn’t matter who he fights right now.
Brock is obviously the fans choice for an opponent, but even if Fedor beat him in 30 seconds, you’d all be saying “wait until Brock is better…then we’ll see”.
It’s a lose, lose for Fedor no matter what he does…it’s lonely at the top.
Like I keep saying…Fedor has 3 fights left with M-1. It would be everyone’s best interst to let Fedor rid himself of those contracted fights in Strikeforrce since the UFC won’t let him do it with them.
Fedor ain’t ducking a guy with 4 or 5 pro fights. He’s at Strikeforce becasue he is contractually obligated to fight 3 fights under the M-1 banner…simple as that.
You can all believe whatever Mr. Potty Mouth White feels he needs to say about Fedor, but the fact is Fedor has a contract with M-1 and he didn’t sign with the UFC, becasue he’d be stuck in litigation…just like Randy Couture was a years ago with the UFC. Where was everyone with the “Randy is ducking Fedor” talk when he didn’t go ahead with his fight with Fedor? It wouldn’t make any more sense to say that Fedor is ducking Brock right now than it would to say that about Randy back then.

Grim wouldn’t break UFC top 5
Weldum was dumped by the UFC
Overeem is ok, and would pose one good (ish) fight for Fedor but other then that i would rather see Kimbo fight Fedor. If, maybe, might be, could be, hope so, what if, fingers crossed!!!!!!!!
Dana is a hot head but we have to thank him for the continual existence of MMA and its massive growth. But as a business man i exactly know where he is coming from with this. Why Co-Promote when the UFC have it down to a fine art. Fedor has disrespected his fans here, they want him to fight the best and that is in the UFC (if it was outside the UFC then fair enough). He has chosen money over fans and his career. TW@T
Also please explain why green (your words) fighters don’t deserve a shot if Dos Santos does Cro Cop (having Weldum and Cro cop on his record) he would be up there with Carwin and Cain. Sorry there was an If there because i couldn’t jump in my time travelling machine to see what actually happens

At least the UFC was going to put him in a title fight right away and not try to “build up” the supposed best HW in the world. Why in the world would they need to do that? They only have him for 3 fights. BTW, how do you know he will have 3 decent fights? They never mentioned any names. At least in the UFC you knew who he would fight. Randy has 1 more after Nog I believe. So it could have been Lesnar then Randy. Which is a lot better than Can then Alistair IMO.

I am not assuming Randy will win. There are a # of scenarios where those 2 fights could have taken place.
Also you are assuming who Fedor will fight. Did Croker ever mention any names besides Alistair? So who knows? They just matched up Werdum with a LHW, so their match making is questionable. Hopefully Brock’s run as HW champion will come to an end soon. I think carwin has the best chance to do it. Brock would destroy Kongo, Dos Santos, and Crocop by just taking them down. Nog is past his prime and has been for quite some time. Cain is too small to be effective.

Ill never understand the ignorance of all the posters on this site. I’m EXTREMELY disappointed that FEDOR isn’t in ufc but, this isn’t only his fault and I choose not to blame him. They weren’t candid in saying it has to be a cross promo, it was no secret. So don’t offer 30 mill. Seems they could’ve offered 80 mill n got same result. We’d have him if we offered 5 mill and cross promo.
Now there was no need for Dana to do that so I get that too. but, its not like FEDOR was lying, the instant STRIKEFORCE offered to cross promo we got this. So its clear truth to me. He doesn’t care if ya offer him a billion, he’s not doing it w/o m1. Like it or not. He clearly respects the company.
Go FEDOR! Run thru STRIKEFORCE and Dana now has 12 mos to decide if he wants to cross promo or not. I’m fine with all this now, and look fwd to a great month in mma.

Dude you’re nuts, you’re favorite fighter (I’m assuming thats Fedor) is fighting some TBA B-C level opponent in his first fight with SF; then he’s going up against Overeem assuming they can build the fight who’s ranked #10 HW in the world if that. This is exactly the same garbage you see in boxing all the time; #1 vs #10 instead of #1 vs #2. It’s crazy to praise this turn of events at all. It was bad enough he didn’t sign with the UFC, now he’s in SF; THEN instead of getting right down to business and fighting they’re top guys he’s going to tune up against even lesser comp? Realistically he’s probably going to be fighting a guy thats not even in the top 20 and you’re excited about this Insane..

No he isn’t my favorite. Gsp is head n shoulders above. He is my favorite. Spider Chuck rampage and jardine are all just behind. Now make fun cuz Chuck is semi retired and jardine isn’t a sure thing. I don’t just cheer for the winners. Anyways you guys will never read w/o bias. I understand both parties. And FEDOR WILL NOT DO IT W/O CROSS PROMO! Seems really hard 4 you guys to grasp. I don’t mind all of u non respectful ingrates bitchin @ me.
He’ll sign when they include his company. Nothing wrong w/including who you respect. He claims they’re great friends too kinda like Dana and the fertitas. He wouldn’t go back on them they helped him get where he is.
I would bring my buddy/co worker/boss along for the ride too. I’m not saying this was the right thing for FEDOR to do, I’m just saying I understand it.

Daniel you ready to see my #1 fighter in the world take out Anderson? I like you dont necissarily go for the champions or the sure things. For pete’s sake my favorite lightweight is Clay Guida. I will look forward to posting Saturday after the fight.
I agree with everything you said about the whole Fedor situation, but you left out where M1 wanted half the gate…I could be misquoting but i thought that was what they were looking for. If I’m Dana im not touching that with a 10 foot pole

I understand it, I’m just not very excited about seeing him fighting guys he should be beating anyway. Where’s the excitement? Where’s the build up for an epic clash between two elite warriors that could end eachothers night at any second of the fight? No, it’s a one sided beatdown instead, barring an insane upset happening there’s no mystery as to the outcome of these fights. It’s lame.

Ha ah ralphie I’m with ya on guida he is too sweet! The carpenter wins best nickname to besides Mcrory who has barn cat locked down as best overall! And ya I’m still anti bk Penn!
And as for m1 wanting half the gate? That’s not bad. That’s not ppv remember, the gate stands to make 5 mill. Big deal. And I am not helping here but they were offered a % of ppv too but the deal was 30 mill from including/working with the ppv/gate intake. So it wasn’t quite as juicy as a flat out 30 mill + +. Never the less go kenflo! Bk no!

I would not be surprised if Overeem got the call from the CSAC to come in for the pre fight piss test and he realized he wasnt going to be able to cycle off that quick and decided he was better off getting an imjury!

Fedor said himself that he has fights left on his M-1 contract. If I were a bigtime UFC fan I’d say “great, get those tune-up fights in at Stikeforce…then when your three M-1 fights are done…welcome to the UFC”
Fuck, it’s only a year from now.

Fedor is stipid or very worried about comming to the ufc b/c he knows he will have real fights in the ufc and i hope Overeem kos him in 1st that way everyone will be done with the so say top p4p fighter thats afraid to fight real top p4p fighters

I made a comment yesterday that I beleive Scott Coker made a bad businees decision by signing Fedor. Fedor is a great fighter but without the proper marketing he is not profitable. I don’t think that Strikeforce has the tools to market a Fedor fight. Recent comments by Scott Coker prove this to be true. It seems as though Coker will try to build up to a Fedor vs. Overeem fight by placing them on a card together to try and generate more interest in the fight. This spells major disaster for Strikeforce. They risk everything putting Fedor up against a “can.” Let’s assume that “can” is Brett Rogers. Rogers has a punchers chance against Fedor. Now let’s imagine that Rogers beats Fedor. Then what? You’ve got nothing. Dana White and the UFC have the right idea concerning who Fedor would fight first. The current champion. Granted the Strikeforce champion probably doesn’t have a chance against Fedor he is still the champ. You can’t risk Fedor losing to a chump.

He should be the fighting the number 2 guy not 10 but I think Overeem will put up a good fight. I will lay some money on him if hes a big enough underdog.

How legit is Rogers or Fedor in the HW division based on their fights in the States? They both destroyed AA. What does that prove? Fedor destroyed The Maniac. Big deal! Overeem is way overrated and Strikeforce has all of 3 other HWs in their organization (Buentell, Sapp and Verdum)! They better hope that they can either sign Lashley or get Barnett eligible to fight him, because there really isn’t any legitimate contenders for Fedor. It’s as if he is using Strikeforce as a self-promotion vehicle until M-1 finally does submit to Zuffa.
One final point, Zuffa/UFC would be stupid to do any co-promotion with M-1 Global! Who are they besides Fedor and the WEC of Europe?
by figtin on Aug 4, 2009 1:44 PM EDT reply actions
Dude, I think Allister has a great fucking chance at beating fedor. The guy knocked out Badi Hari. And he’s definitly one of the picks to be dangerous to fedor.
by SASAS on Aug 4, 2009 1:51 PM EDT reply actions
hmmm judging by Fedors last few fights Overeem may have the best chance out of them but I don’t know he has lost to Arona & Rua both much smaller opponents? The best fighter Overeem has beat is Belfort the best HW he has beat is Buentello? If he does beat Fedor I would be laughing my ass off.

When he finishes his 3 fights with M-1 and becomes a true free-agent (which he wasn’t in the past couple weeks, even though everyone pretended he was), and signs with the UFC (clear of M-1)….you’ll be buying the PPV’s and I’ll call you a liar.

I don’t know. I watched Overeem back in pride, and he’s big, tall, muscular, agile, and smart. But he always seems to go the same route— starts out looking real powerful, then after a bit, get caught by something, almost like the AA did on the AA/Fedor fight recently.

intro alls u do on this site is bicker and argue with people.grow the fuck up.yes fedor is under contract with m-1 but he has the right to tell them to go fuck themselves if he really wanted to fight the top competition in the heavyweight division.m-1 didnt need to b apart of the deal.fedor is just using this as his excuse to dodge the ufc.first it was the sambo bullshit and dana called him on that and when he ran out of excuses now he uses this.after the strikeforce deal is done he will come up with another one.he doesnt want to lose and knows he will in ufc.i hope he loses in strikeforce to grim.but it would b even better against the dude that knocked out kimbo.id much rather see that fight than overeem cause everyone knows overeem is gonna lose.at least seth proved he can knock someone out.even if it is stepping backwords

I read through most of these post, and didn’t see what I thought the minute I read Coker’s statement. When have you ever seen Dana “build up” fights. The one thing you have to say about the UFC is they always try to put the best fight available in front of you. Dana already said, if Fedor came to the UFC he would get 1st shot at Lesnar. When Randy Couture came back, he didnt face Congo, etc, he fought Lesnar (the fight the fans wanted). You think Dana ever “protects” his guys by avoiding fights of future stars? Joe Silva has to be laughing at this statement from Coker. I watch strikeforce because I love MMA, and they have some good fights. However, I hate their production, their broadcasters, their over hyping, and everything else outside the fights. I used to think monopoly was bad, but the truth is, none of these other organizations are even close to the UFC, except the WEC which is owned by Zuffa. This whole Fedor shit is getting old. Why does the “#1 HW of the World” need a build up? Its Ridiculous!! Give him the title fight, and let everyone else chase him..is it that hard to figure out? That way, if Grim loses, OH WELL, he lost to the champion. This is crap!
by jk358 on Aug 4, 2009 9:51 PM EDT reply actions
Just a thought, maybe we should start a petition to boycott renting the strikforce payperviews therefore forcing strikeforce and affliliate m-1 global to take a bath and close there doors. In return you get your beloved fedor fighting for the only other organization that could possibly bare the financial load that is fedor the UFC. This is an extreme request and extremly greasy……like gsp greasy or KFC greasy.
thoughts or insults?? lol

I also just read Ranallo will be doing the commentating on the EA sports MMA game. That alone is reason enough for me not to buy it. Here is a list of the fighters available on the game:
Along with Emelianenko, other fighters who will be appearing in the game include Gegard Mousasi, Renato Sobral, Randy Couture, Frank Shamrock, Jay Hieron, BenjI Radach, Tim Sylvia and Tim Kennedy.
