Brock Larson vs Mike Pierce added to UFC Fight Night 19 on Sept. 16

World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) welterweight veterans, Brock Larson (26-2) and Mike Pierce (9-1), are booked to throwdown inside that Octagon at UFC Fight Night 19 from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Sept. 16.

Larson recently defeated Mike Pyle via first round submission (arm triangle choke) at UFC 98: "Evans vs. Machida" back in May. It was his second consecutive win for the former number one WEC 170-pound contender.

The Minnesota Martial Arts Academy-trained fighter returned to the UFC after leaving for the WEC in late 2006, scoring a first round submission win (rear naked choke) over Jesse Sanders at UFC Fight Night 18 back in April.

With three straight wins, Larson could start to make some noise in the crowded division. And he’ll get the opportunity to do it against a fighter who is making his promotional debut.

Pierce recently toppled former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 cast member Paul Bradley via unanimous decision at RIE: "Brotherly Love Brawl." He competed once for the WEC, taking out Justin Haskins via technical knockout back in March.

He is currently enjoying a five-fight win streak. Getting number six will certainly be a major test.

"Diaz vs. Guillard" will serve as the lead-in to the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) and will feature a main event between hungry lightweight up-and-comers and former TUF grads Nate Diaz and Melvin "The Young Assassin" Guillard.

In addition, Roger "El Matador" Huerta will throwdown for perhaps the last time inside the Octagon as he tries to leave on a high note against the stifling super-wrestler Gray "The Bully" Maynard. Nate Quarry, Carlos Condit and Chris Lytle are also scheduled to compete.

Larson should be fighting better guys than this.

I still want to see Larson/Condit II.

by Cole on Aug 4, 2009 9:38 AM EDT up reply actions

thats eactly what I was going to say lester. He deserves better then a guy, a diehard like myself has never even heard of!

I would give this fight to Larson, but I have seen Pierce fight many times and he is for real. He is out of Braveheart gym in Portland Oregon (Team Quest’s rivals) and has been working his A$$ off to get this. Should be a good fight.

Larson has been impressing me lately with his standup. His left hand is getting to be very sharp and ends up being the factor in most of his fights. I cant wait to see him fight again.

I gotta go with Larson – we rep the same BJJ school(I’ve never seen him ever though, i just hear the other guys/instructor talk about him). Supposedly Camarillo is gonna give him black belt soon once he takes a private class with Danaher.

Yeah he should. Im a big fan of Larson. I want to see Larson-Condit 2!

you never know this thread might be like the one where keith jardine vs houston alexander was announced.

anyways i would also really like to see condit/larson 2 if larson gets past pierce.

This should be a very easy win for both Brock Larson and also anyone that bets on MMA. However, the odds will probably be around -500 so he’s most likely only good as an add in on parlays.

Although, at -400, I think I’d have to take the action.

by ViolentMike on Aug 4, 2009 9:38 AM EDT reply actions

I would take it as well. This is a lock! Baby Lesnar is a lot tougher than he gets credit for!

by john G on Aug 4, 2009 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Although I do agree Larson will win, a fight where both fighters combined record is like 35 & 3 means neither are slouches. I get what u guys are saying but I kno better then to count out a fighter w/an impressive record like both these gentlemen

good point but I cant see Brock losing!

by john G on Aug 4, 2009 11:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Larson is a good Gorilla Jits guy. At least thats what i think he calls his own style.

Cole- Didn’t Larson Condit II happen in the WEC? I thought Carlos got both wins, or maybe I’m dreaming. I can’t remember specifics which makes me wonder.

I see Larson pulling sub by sheer force in rd. 1.

by Big Zino on Aug 4, 2009 10:09 AM EDT reply actions

Condit pulled off a slick armbar on Larson back in 2007, and I believe Larson was going to get his re-match, but thats when then the WEC flipped its format and sent its WW-LHW to the UFC.

by Cole on Aug 4, 2009 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions

WEC dropped the LHW and MW divisions; I’m not sure why he never got a rematch with Condit. Maybe an injury or something.

by PW on Aug 4, 2009 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions

They need to book a muy tai WAR between any two of these fighters: Semxtex, Alves and Condit! any combo of those 3 would make FOTY candidate!

by john G on Aug 4, 2009 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed john, either would be FOTY’s or exciting quick knockouts, either way, I like it.

by James S on Aug 4, 2009 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Semtex vs Alves is interesting.

Condit has other skills so I don’t think he’d provide the same stand up war although does have the capability.

by Big Zino on Aug 4, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions

it dropped welterweight too, PW

by AzCombat on Aug 4, 2009 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

WW stayed on a lot longer than the MW and LHW.

by PW on Aug 4, 2009 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

GOrilla Jitz is not his own style.

by belfort_fan on Aug 4, 2009 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Brock is still on the undercard? Come on! Put him up against some better quality opponents. He has only two losses (Fitch & Condit) and is in his prime…. lets see what he can do! Maybe put him against Lytle, Karo, or even Condit again.

by Dan on Aug 4, 2009 11:05 AM EDT reply actions

Brock is far too ugly to lose to this guy. Brock should be fighting someone else who’s been hit with the ugly stick, perhaps Sean Salmon or Matt Lindland.

by Drake_Labatt on Aug 4, 2009 11:27 AM EDT reply actions

Jake Rosholt

by belfort_fan on Aug 4, 2009 1:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Fighting Leben won’t make him any prettier. CB “I Sniffed a Fart” Dollaway is pretty ugly too.

by PW on Aug 4, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Wouldn’t mind seeing Larson take on Rumble. It would certainly help narrow the title contender picture, although I would like to see GSP fight both guys.
Damn, there’s just far too many great guys in that division that each bring different skills to the table, and while I’d love to see GSP fight them all (and thus TRULY wipe-out the WW Division), I just don’t see it happening:
Kampmann
Swick
Larson
Lytle
Rumble
Condit
Hardy
Daley
Hazelett.
Le’s face it guys, there’s still plenty of fights left for GSP at WW, and while none of those guys might trouble him just now, after a few fights each, they will have improved and might bring something for him.

by HeroOfTime on Aug 4, 2009 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

I wouldn’t count mike pierce out i have seen this guy fight and he is a bad ass fighter that always puts on a good show. He will stand and bang and he will take his opponents down with a powerful slam.
