So is it a given that the winner of the BJ/Kenny fight will have Diego in their face in Philly?

by OJR on Aug 3, 2009 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I know typical Sherdog, Diego dominated that fight and made it exciting, all Huggie did was some typical Clay and Pray and take a beating for 15 minutes.

Diego deserves the next shot, he was set to face Alves in a 170lb title contender fight before getting injured, so beating two top 10 LWs in impressive fashion (I know he didn’t stop them but he made Joe Daddy look like an amateur and beat down Huggie for 15 minutes) and is the most marketable contender.

Edgar’s hampered by the Maynard defeat whilst Lay and Gray doesn’t have the fan base or the big wins to justify a title shot and only BJ would be a somewhat marketable opponent because he coached Gray on TUF and it would be the first coach v contestant fight in the UFC. I say make Gray v Edgar II to see whether Frankie can step up, unless Gray is upset by Huerta.

I want to see a rematch between Florian and Sanchez.. I don’t see Deigo beating Kenny @ 155. I don’t see Kenny beating BJ.. It would be a scrapy type of a fight.. BJ is too much @ 155.. for both Ken Flo and Sanchez.

by PhilQNY on Aug 3, 2009 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Speaking of crap, HOLY CRAP!!! Its Phil!!!!!!!!

Bro..VM!! my dude! I’m hanging in there.. Lost my j.o.b. in May.. so that’s how I was getting on Mania.

Now I’m the twilight of making a move.. from NYC.. to NJ soon.

Periodically I would just check mania via my cell phone just to check out the threads.. it’s not how I would perfer dropping a comment.

I’m here now.. saying what’s up. I hope the MMAMANIA OG’s are doing good.

This past week I was chillin with BJJ Legend / Grand Master Rigan Machado.. as he did a seminar at my school and belt promotion. ( Rigan is MAD cool ).. shared with me so many beautiful stories growing up in Rio de Janerio with his family.

Awesome Phil, I’m happy to hear that everything seems to be going good with you.

Feel free to him me up via email, if you don’t still have it, it is carmelo327@yahoo.com

I want to find out what you think about all this mma craziness the past few weeks.

Bj will spank florian, then diego.

Honestly i dont see anyone in the Lw division that can stop bj.

Thats the thing, you don’t see much when youre a fanboy.

by Lester The Pimp on Aug 3, 2009 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

its not a biased statement.

give me 1 lightweight in the ufc that can beat bj?

by Pretty Boy on Aug 3, 2009 2:46 PM EDT up reply actions

If BJ has a bad day and Kenny has a PERFECT day than it is very possible.

I dont think Diego deserves a title shot yet, just my opinion though. 2 extremely underwhelming performences, I say give him 1 more fight to get his cut just right.

by WB on Aug 3, 2009 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Diego will beat him….

by RoBerto on Aug 3, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

diego will beat bj

by chiko on Aug 9, 2009 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

If anyone is calling for Florian to win, they need mental help. And Deigo better start finishing some fights if he expects to get any respect.

by Julian on Aug 3, 2009 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

Please. Huggie Bear was in survival mode for the last 12 minutes of that fight. Diego was kicking his stupid huggie ass all over the cage.

by PW on Aug 3, 2009 4:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Diego better start finishing some fights if he wants some respect

by Julian on Aug 3, 2009 2:45 PM EDT reply actions

Why does everyone forget Frankie Edgar? He just handled Sherk, who is a tougher opponent than Guida. I don’t think Edgar would win, but I think he’d make a fight of it.

by yohnstoppable on Aug 3, 2009 3:00 PM EDT reply actions

And on that note, Maynard.

by yohnstoppable on Aug 3, 2009 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Maynard has come to my mind too. But bj would sub him on the ground i think.

by Pretty Boy on Aug 3, 2009 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Edgar probably is right behind Diego (even though Maynard beat him). Think Maynard-Huerta will be very interesting to see considering Huerta was losing to Guida before Guida got caught, and Guida put up a decent fight against Diego.

by WB on Aug 3, 2009 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions

I Still think sherk has the ability to beat frankie edgar. he just went in there with a bad game plan.

by Pretty Boy on Aug 3, 2009 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

His game plan was to knock him out via alligator-arms, and i’ve yet to see that work for anyone.

by kg on Aug 3, 2009 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

As posted on the Maia thread, he being very likable – on the other hand Dirty Sanchez is is 100% the most unlikable guy in MMA – hes just a cock.

by Insain on Aug 3, 2009 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

Diego/Penn is just avery marketable fight and the UFC doesn’t want to screw it up by chancing a Diego loss against another top guy like Edgar/Sherk/Maynard. Not that he would necessarily lose to any of those guys, but it would be close.

No one needs to complain about Diego getting an early shot. He was on the doorstep to a WW title shot and now has come down and put on two very solid performances (and the first round vs. Guida was awesome).

Of course, there is the unthinkable (Florian beats Penn) and then you have a natural re-match of the first TUF finale. Good move positioning Diego first for the shitle tot.

by revjames13 on Aug 3, 2009 4:08 PM EDT reply actions

i just don’t agree with those that say Diego doesn’t “deserve” this title shot……it’s not even about that. Brock Lesnar didn’t “deserve” his title shot, but it was a very marketable fight, as proven by everything it’s produced (whether it’s good or bad.) Also, I don’t think you can just dismiss what Diego did in the Welterweight Division, and it doesn’t look like the powers that be in the UFC have dismissed it either. Whether it’s Penn or Florian, you can’t tell me that Frankie Edgar or Gray Maynard would make for a more interesting or marketable fight over The Nightmare. I’m a huge Nightmare fan so i realize i’m biased, but even if i wasn’t, i wouldn’t have a problem with him getting the title shot. It’s even more compelling if Florian wins (but i don’t see that happening.) I know there’s a lot of people that hate on Diego, and they think he’s an idiot and a weirdo and all that which is fine. Hell, I think BJ is one of the biggest dickheads in MMA, but I love watching the dude fight cuz he’s a badass. You can pretty much guarantee that a fight with Sanchez will be anything but boring, so sit back and enjoy watching Diego get weird.

by kg on Aug 3, 2009 4:15 PM EDT reply actions

cant wait until after the penn florian fight. you know diego is going to be all up in there face, with his little angry boy face.

by day1er on Aug 3, 2009 8:15 PM EDT reply actions

HA!

I totally agree. My kid makes that face.

by Harry Johnson on Aug 3, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmmm interesting, Diego seems to talk alot more ‘normal’ in this video.
