Forrest Griffin war wagon pulls into Philadelphia for Anderson Silva UFC 101 fight

Props: MySpace.com

Quoteworthy:

"In anticipation of the momentous match up between UFC® superstar and Team BSN athlete Forrest Griffin and Anderson "Spider" Silva at UFC® 101: DECLARATION on August 8 in Philadelphia, PA, BSN has produced a monument worthy of the occasion. Fans attending the event at the Wachovia Center next weekend definitely won’t be able to miss the 53-foot SYNTHA-6™ RTD semi-truck emblazoned with Forrest’s likeness parked out front! BSN has commissioned the truck as a symbol of support for Forrest, who faces arguably his toughest challenge yet in the Octagon®. The truck will be on display outside the arena at the Bud Block Party, allowing BSN to maintain an elevated presence throughout the proceedings while making our allegiance concerning the main event crystal clear!"

FORREST! FORREST!

I think I tend to back US. I usually tend to back the underdog.

by Bennie Blanco on Aug 2, 2009 1:37 PM EDT up reply actions

personally, i think silva is looking a bit too smug and would like anybody to beat him right now. i dont think forrest is the guy to do it (hendo yes), but i pray to someones god he does.

Im Brazilian and even I have to agree with you. Silva is getting a bit too cocky nowadays. he didn’t use to be like this.

by JJ on Aug 2, 2009 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions

lol . . . what is it that he has done thats so cocky, sounded to me like a guy gauranteed a forrest win (a guy that was supposd to train with silva) and Ano is taking it personaly . . . what are you talking about . . . and now it means Ando is gonna bring it, isnt that what you want in an Ando fight???? Guess not, rather havehim not care and just dance for 25 huh, figure it out.

by ( (Adam G) ) on Aug 2, 2009 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s finally realizing he’s the best ever. And with this win he’ll be greater than Fedor as he will have been a top 5 fighter across 3 weight divisions over course of his career.

by NameNotRequired on Aug 2, 2009 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Here is what Anderson said recently:

"Personally I am in a constant transformation, improving my technique and game constantly. I told Dana White I’m training to face the best guys, to make big fights, whoever it may be. I study my work and I don’t do anything at random… I see my fights every day and try to get better in all skills. I don’t worry about the outcomes, winning or money. I just thing on getting out of there the same way I came in, that is, in one piece with no injuries. And trying to keep myself so means I do not always get the knockout, that is something that just happens during the course of some of my fights.

I try to win through the mistakes of my opponents. It’s not interesting for me to expose myself and run unnecessary risks. I’m getting old and since I started fighting I never had a scratch or my face broken. Anyone who knows about fighting can see what I mean."

On Team Black House and Lyoto Machida:

“God forgive me for saying it, but we’re years ahead of some fighters. We can also make mistakes of course. When we study our performances we see them, however it doesn’t always appear to the untrained eye.”

sorry but Anderson isnt going to lose this fight!

i cant believe that there are Haters in this world that hate on Greatness like Anderson and Fedor. Regardless of their actions or what comes out of their mouths, how can people root against those guys? I just dont get it!

I guess you could argue that beating Forrest makes him a top-5 LHW, but it’s a tough sell. It’s only his second fight at this weight and Irvin isn’t even top-15. Anderson definitely IS a top-5 LHW in my mind, in the sense that he could, IMO, beat basically any LHW in the UFC – but that doesn’t necessarily get him the ranking.

And I suppose his winning streak at 167 back in the day earned him a top-5 nod in that weight class. He did hand Sakurai his first loss.

This is my favorite finish from Anderson at WW:

I dont like Anderson. Its actually pretty easy to not like him. Be a big Rich Franklin or Dan Hendo fan. He smashed Rich Franklin into Purgatory, and took the only belt Hendo had left. I root against Anderson almost every time.

Hes a good fighter, has mad, sick skills, but I dont like him.

by McArthur on Aug 2, 2009 5:55 PM EDT up reply actions

I like Anderson and he’s going to beat Forrest who is a fighter i don’t like… Liking someone just because they’re good is not my thing… I root for the person more than the fighter

by RoBerto on Aug 2, 2009 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions

i never once said i disliked silva, but sometimes success breeds arrogance. thats what i see in him right now, and a loss might make him a more dangerous and devastating fighter out of him. maybe he’ll become more aggressive like he used be before he became superman. you know, back when he was fun to watch. and dotn tell me you were at all excited during his last 2 fights.

by Egads on Aug 2, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions

34-35 is an age where you’re basically done at in any other sport, the motivation is gone and your body is starting to say no… Anderson could stay in the sport but he’s too good and he’s already accomplished everything!

by RoBerto on Aug 2, 2009 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I kinda agree JJ. It’s all about the scalps on the resume not potential. Though IMO the only LHW who gives him a run is Machida. I guess maybe one more superfight at LHW might secure him that GOAT status.

by NameNotRequired on Aug 2, 2009 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Jizz Head, your posts were good, I kind of agree. But RoBerto, I agree with you more precisely.

Jizz Head has repeatedly pointed out that he likes fighters based almost exclusively on their fighting, which typically translates to liking the best guys. That to me shows signs of a serious wagon jumper. But to prevent himself from jumping off their wagons when they lose, when he decides he doesn’t want to, he makes up some kind of excuse for why they lost.

“Regardless of their actions or what comes out of their mouths, how can people root against those guys? I just dont get it!”

That tells us when they start losing a few and your excuses have run dry, their wagon is gonna be minus one Jizz-obsessed fan. I hear what you’re saying, and I partially think the same thing, but that’s not the ONLY reason why I like them. And you’ve admitted several times that it’s pretty much the only reason you follow them, although you’ve said it less directly (but directly enough).

Fighters aren’t robots. They’re people.

A fighter, in my eyes, doesn’t have to be a constant winner to garner my respect and approval nor does he have to keep winning to maintain it. There are many variables for why I like a fighter which is more than just his excellence. It’s a lot of things.

by Kobajack on Aug 2, 2009 9:33 PM EDT up reply actions

For instance, I once asked a question here regarding a fighter’s personality, and you scoffed at it because it seemed almost fanciful and juvenile to you. And your point was, “Who cares?”

I wasn’t offended, because even when I disagree with you, you still usually have an interesting perspective. But they’re not robots; they have personalities and characteristics which are both appealing and unappealing to us. The infinite and unique differences add to the quality of the match-ups, and for me, it’s all about the match-ups. And then it’s all about the fight, which of course means it’s always about the fighters.

Interesting fighters — which doesn’t necessarily mean flamboyant or colorful (i. e. Fedor. I don’t find him dull or boring at all; the opposite in fact) — make interesting match-ups.

But there’s always an element of interest in the best, for example, GSP. I don’t find him boring or lacking in personality, but one of the reasons I like him is because he is the best and I want him to continue to be the best in his division. If he started losing, I admit, I would probably be less interested in his fights (but not altogether disinterested; I will always be interested in GSP) because his fights wouldn’t be as interesting. But as I said, I don’t hold that view for every fighter. It’s not exclusively based on excellence either.

My point is, I agree with you Jizz Bomb, but you’re the equivalent of an extreme right winger, whereas most of us, the more balanced of us, are not so close to one end of the spectrum.

by Kobajack on Aug 2, 2009 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

My second post is in moderation. I didn’t swear or abuse anyone. This is annoying. Fair enough, the other day I said something sick regarding wrapping Tito’s hand wraps around my c0ck and my post never appeared, that’s reasonable, but why does it do it sometimes and not others?

by Kobajack on Aug 2, 2009 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

You’re not alone, Kobajack. Sometimes Reverend Walt sees fit to keep me from really putting the hammer down on some assbag. I like moderation the way retarded kids like haunted houses.

Haha. Yeah, it’s odd.

by Kobajack on Aug 3, 2009 12:28 AM EDT up reply actions

Kobajack, I say all the time… there’s a difference between who your fan of and who you think will win. Some people have trouble separating those. I don’t. When, comes to who you like, personality counts. When comes to who you think will win, it’s time to think of them like robots.

I like Kenny and wish he would win, but I think BJ takes it.

I like Forrest and would love to see him pull it off, but I think Anderson destroys him

I hated Brock’s guts, but I put wasn’t about to bet on Mir.

Jizz man does get a little crazy with his favorites when it comes to behavior though. If he likes a guy, he jumps on their side and fights “to the death” even when they are obviously in the wrong. He’s like that only-child Mom who will not believe for a second that her child could be wrong. I try not to do that. For example, I love Dana White, but I call him out now and then when he goes too far.

by Kobajack on Aug 3, 2009 4:28 AM EDT up reply actions

Ovary Man, I’ve posted several times about the difference in who you’re rooting for and who you like; you’re preaching to the choir, dawg. :)

I didn’t include it because it’s kind of irrelevant, my man, because I was talking about liking fighters, not who one thinks will win. I understand how it could be seen as relevant, but I have talked about that enough to not bother with the people who can’t tell the difference.

But it was my fault for not being clear. I just felt like a rant.

But I’m glad you see things the same way. :)

You can keep it. Now, are you going to be a man of your word and shove off or do you plan to stick around and call me names all day? Having a thirteen-year-old fool like JRE compliment your site is not the best recommendation. LOL. Of course I wanted to go to Cagepotato afterwards because I read the other day where you said that you pride yourself on not editing posts and I thought that was really cool, — and then you delete mine and edit them! Hypocrite. So you ruined any trust. It means nothing to you but the readers are what makes your site. That’s low, man. You could have at least said, “I didn’t do it or something,” and I would have apologized, but you immediately couldn’t care less and told me to go. That’s shallow, dude.

__

I’ve never changed or edited a single post in three years — why would I start with yours? The only posts I ever deleted were either spam or had something stupid like the N-word in them.

And I think the fact that I allow the posts that say "Jesse is a fag, Jesse blows, blah blah blah is evidence of my policy on posting. Say what you want about the evils of moderation — it’s controlled by the system and not a person — and you still won’t find a more lenient site for opinions on the net.

__

Now, if you’re going away, then go. If you’re sticking around, get back to the important stuff — like MMA.

Jesse, if you don’t edit posts, I apologize for the accusation, but every single one of mine was being moderated and then someone used my name. And one of mine was deleted too. I thought it was you. But you didn’t even care to explain it. I wouldn’t have said about leaving the site to just be an @sshole or presume to think you would give a shit, I said it out of frustration, because if you edit posts, well you take away our freedom to express our thoughts about the subject.

__

I understand your frustration and I hope you can understand mine: Moderation is in place — by the system — to keep the site comment friendly, meaning that you can post without having to sign up for an account or type in those ridiculous hieroglyphics with every comment.

I don’t know what causes some posts to be flagged while others sail through, but I try to get to them and clear them out as fast as I can — in between keeping the news flowing, typing up stories, etc.

I can’t speak for Mania or his trigger finger but I can tell you he, like I, never change what a person says. He might be more apt to delete a comment — but never change it. Sometimes the comment section can be like the Wild West and all we can do is run to catch up.

Now let’s forget about this stuff and get back to the business of MMA — I hear they’re looking for you in the Amir Sadollah post.

Okay, Jesse, sorry. Maybe you’re not that bad after all. And it’s understandable if people complain about your site, about leaving it, how it would irk you, or more precisely, provoke you to encourage them to leave.

But I assure you, I didn’t mean it like how I’ve seen other people say it. I meant it as if to say, “Well if they’re messing with my posts, I suppose I better leave.” That’s why I got cut afterward.

I said something retaliatory to another poster earlier on and it got deleted and then every post, even a five word post, got moderated and I thought someone (you or Mania or whomever) didn’t want me posting anymore or something.

Screw these other fools like JRE, OJR, Adam G and Kevin, there are worthwhile posters here like Jeremyjackson, Ovaries, Dragon, Attakdog, etc. who actually have some intelligent insight.

To be honest, I don’t know why I care, but I like this site and have been coming here for a couple of years now (I think) and hope you can see where I’m coming from and that although I’m immature at times, I’m not a morally void piece of shit like JRE and OJR.

By the way, despite posting as Dragon, unfortunately I am not the screen bandit. I was going to joke to Dragon as “TheDragon” in the amir thread but inadvertently wrote “Dragon” instead.

I was getting totally jacked by the screen bandit though. So, sorry for the confusion.

Also, I apologize to OJR. I think we were misunderstood. Please accept my apology if you see it.

And I also didn’t say those things as “Dragon” in the Amir thread. It was JRE. You can tell by the lack of grammatical ability. I didn’t get a chance to do it there (my TheDragon thing) because I was too busy writing my apology to Jesse, hehe. Plus, I wouldn’t do that to my man Dragon.

So, Dragon, I didn’t do that shit.

God, it looks bad, making a double post as Dragon, but really, I didn’t. I promise. Why would I bag you? If anything I only had reason to bag Adam G, Kevin, JRE, and OJR (although OJR is decent I suspect, we just misunderstood each other).

Mania never misses out on an opportunity to flog BSN crap. What else is the purpose of this thread? If you guys like NO-Xplode, try Gaspari Nutrition’s Superpump 250 or Dymatize Xpand. More complete formula without OD’ing on caffeine and getting the jitters and losing sleep. If you take X-plode before training at night you will probably have trouble sleeping, and that much caffeine is straght-up bad for you. That being said, none of these products are good for you. They are loaded with artificial substances.

How does Forrest get nervous for big fights, he won the world championship against Rampage

by kickbox on Aug 2, 2009 5:58 PM EDT up reply actions

every pro athlete will tell you that they’re nervous.. It’s good that means you’re ready to do something big!

by RoBerto on Aug 2, 2009 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Or in Forrest’s case, get hit with something big.

by Jeremyjackson on Aug 2, 2009 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

not me.. i like A silva in this fight to get back to his old ways winning impressively

by aj on Aug 2, 2009 12:56 PM EDT reply actions

I can’t wait for this fight 101 will be twice as good as 100. I mean Anderson Silva and Forrest don’t even have top billing.

Bud Block Party? Can someone please tell me what that is. I mean I have heard of the MMAMANIA partayy in eagles lot k20-k22 from 2-6(plug).

anyone in your crew wanna come to dinner with the rest of the maniacs on fri night 730 Ruth’s chris (plug)!

by kevin on Aug 2, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea I know you set up the trip. haha. I have read numerous occasions about it, but I am from Philly and am just hittin up the Q&A/weighins and then Raw lounge later that night. I wanna get down there earlier rather than later on saturday bc of the Phils Marlins game + UFC. Both are sold out I believe so the parking lot will be packed by 430-5

how does one find out about parties, im gonna be at raw for some pre party, but what other parties are there? furthermore, where can one find his favorite fighters while they are in philly? i saw bjs vblog and i have no idea where he is, northeast?

by an8 yr old boy on Aug 2, 2009 1:28 PM EDT reply actions

Silva is the better fighter by far; but I haven’t liked his recent arrogance, nor some of his statements, of late. Silva has got his mind on many unrelated things, including this proposed boxing match with RJJ. He doesn’t seem fully focused on Forrest, and probably thinks he’s going to go right through Forrest.

Still picking Silva to win; but wouldn’t be too surprised if Forrest pulls the upset.

by Fred on Aug 2, 2009 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

Forrest might need to bring that truck to the octagon and run Anderson over with it. only chance of him winning in my eyes. i say vicious KO in the 2nd or 3rd. i thought Rampage would beat Griffin too but this is different, Anderson possesses alot more tools than alot of the fighters Forrest has faced. I think the better match up would be Rashad or Rampage vs Anderson but this is still a good fight. i think if Forrest tries leg kicks like the Page fight hell catch a nasty James Irvin treatment from Silva. might not get him the first time but i see Forrest tryin to brawl and paying dearly for it.

by JakeAnd on Aug 2, 2009 1:54 PM EDT reply actions

yo Freddy if the UFC gave me fighters that were much less talented than me to fight i would dog it too. he can still win when clownin the guy. not sayin i agree with it but i see where Andersons comin from. he wants to fight the best plain and simple. he shows up to fight everyone he thinks is a challenge. Cote and Leites arent exactly the biggest threat to his throne. Give him Maia or Nate again or Hendo and im bettin hell represent why hes one of the best in the world. PPV buys are important to how much a fighter is getting paid in extras or whatever. nobody wants to see Anderson destroy guys that arent as good as him. we want fights like this and so does he.

I’m on front seat of the Silva wagon, waiting in anticipation for him to smash Forrest’s into the hospital. Anderson’s going to shut up all of the doubters next week, Forrest’s getting KTFO guaranteed.

Anderson needs some humility knocked into him and I think Forrest is the guy to do it. He’s too big for Anderson to overpower, and he’ll bring the fight to him so Anderson can’t sit back and pick his shots. Lets just hope he doesn’t get rocked like in the Jardine fight. But way I figure it anyone who can go 5 rounds with Rampage can take a punch.

by Jason H on Aug 2, 2009 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed, but the only chance he has of winning is to wear silva down and grind out a decision, or a late round sub, ala griffin/shogun imo. I hope forrest wins this, as I am not a silva’s biggest fan, but I would not be supprised to see forrest get ktfo’d.

Hendo is going to be the man to beat silva at 185. Hopefully he has at least one more big right hand left to put upside the head of another cocky bastard!

by tylerS on Aug 2, 2009 6:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Forrest didnt really take any big shots in that fight. maybe a couple good ones but nothin big. he had a good gameplan and he made Page almost immobile with the leg kicks. took all the power outta his punches. now that people kno what Forrest can do i think hes kinda easy to figure out. look at what Rashad did to him and Shad looked bad that night for the most part in my opinion. i think Forrest can take a punch but he doesnt react as well to it as he should.

by JakeAnd on Aug 2, 2009 3:02 PM EDT reply actions

10 of those things arent going to help him against Ando, wish they could though, ill be hoping for Forrest but bankig on Ando. He’ll be taking this as serious as a Rich Franklin bout, you dont treat Griffin like hes Cote, you take out a threat at first chance to, if Ando comes to dance . . . Forrst could win each round that he does by controlling the octagon, but even Silva dont dance for 25 minutes and when hes done prancing, he’ll being and evd the slaughter in seconds, like the Franklin bouts.

If Lionheart did pull it off though, and Shogun yanked machidas chain har enough, that would set up a reat rematch. But id rather see silva get forrest and then get shogun if he beats machida . . . too many great matchups in this division especially when you add silva to mix . . . thank you Mr. White.

im on the wagon, up front saving a spot for JJ. better hurry theres not much time left. war forrest bringing the right gameplan to win. he will not press forward, allowing silva to counterstrike. jabs, footwork, and leg kicks, and well timed combos will win the standup. forrest gets the takedown seasons him with some nice gnp. forrest is strong enough to control him. silva will not be able to manuever. should be a great fight, if forrest keeps his head and fights smart it will be a bad night for silva.

by day1er on Aug 2, 2009 5:21 PM EDT reply actions

Forrest will have a hard time keeping his head — on his shoulders, that is.

;-)

by Jeremyjackson on Aug 2, 2009 8:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Forrest is a tough & smart fighter I’m sure he’s going to look at what Henderson did his first round against Silva and use similar tactics, even though Henderson lost in the second it was clearly from bad cardio from the weight drop and we all know Forrest won’t have those issues this fight. Forrest is just coming off a loss and knows how huge this would be for his career a win could put him next against Machida and a loss would put him against Jardine in the future. I’m taking the underdog forrest in this one not only is he tough and smart he’s the biggest top rated fighter Silva has faced.

by Beaver on Aug 2, 2009 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think cardio had anything to do with Hendo losing that fight. I think it was mostly due to getting smashed in the face by the shin of an infinitely superior striker. And Hendo’s chin makes Forrest’s look like glass. Goodnight, sweet prince.

top rated with virtually all heart and no skill…

by gaara on Aug 3, 2009 3:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Both Silva and Forrest have nothing to lose in this fight. I can’t see this being anything other than a total destruction of Forrest… kind of like what happened to Leben and Franklin. I’m glad to see Silva going into this fight a little cocky, his last two fights he had too much respect for his opponents strenghts and played it way to safe. Silva won’t be thinking of defending any streghts when he’s Forrest, well maybe a leg kick. Also there won’t be any B.S. about Silva wanting to take it to 5 rounds and prove something. Forrest size and heart won’t matter in this one, look for Silva to end this quickly and put on a real good show.

by MXN on Aug 2, 2009 9:02 PM EDT reply actions

I can’t wait to see Forest do his famous victory dance with his arms flapping on both sides like a super excited school girl who just unwrapped her first Barbie doll on Christmas morning.

by 2TimePennConqueror on Aug 2, 2009 10:32 PM EDT reply actions

anderson might be too fast. if forest can find a way to deal with that then i think he might be able to win a decision. i don’t think that forest can finish anderson, but you never know. i hope that forest wins so he can get back in title contention. anderson can stay down at 185 with his cocky attitude.

Forest will win. Silva just seems to have lost his motivation. Also,it doesn’t matter where Fedor tries to hide while dodging the UFC, Dana will send Seth Petruzelli to knock him out in the first round.
