BJ! BJ!
A CONDITIONED BJ IS ONE SCARY INDIVIDUAL!

too bad we have never seen bj in shape in his previous 20 fights and we won’t see one at 101

I think Solva/Griffin could be one of the best, most exciting fights this year!
by kevin on Aug 1, 2009 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree Kevin, that and the Florian/Penn have potential to be two of the best fights of the year. I got Florian by decision, and the Silva/Griffin is just too hard to pick! I love fights like that. Wish I was going with you guys!
by allamerican on Aug 1, 2009 5:45 PM EDT up reply actions
And you may be thinking how will Kenny make it through all 5 rounds? Easy, he’s adapting Machida style and will use it in this fight just like he did in the Huerta fight. BJ will get frustrated, and over agressive and lose the fight himself!
by allamerican on Aug 1, 2009 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions
People can imitate Machida’s style, but never duplicate it. That style is the result of a lifetime of training a specific style under a master, combined with natual genetic talent. It’s like saying you’re going to imitate GSP’s takedowns and athleticism. Good luck.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 1, 2009 6:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Very true JJ. But we all know that Kenny is trying his best to become as elusive as possible, and imitation may work. I see your point but still I think that Kenny can make it work!

i think Neer vs. Pelligrino has a chance to be one of the most exciting fights of the year.

by allamerican on Aug 1, 2009 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions
If Kenny survives the first two rounds he will win by throw of the towel because we all know Penn is a little bitch with no cardio. Jumping out of a pool is one thing. Fighting for five full rounds is another.
by WereGonnaGoToTheDeath on Aug 1, 2009 12:24 PM EDT reply actions
Lol.
Penn is in shape.
WHAT OTHER 155 LBS GUY COULD GO TO BAT WITH GSP FOR 4 ROUNDS?
GSP just owned Alves for 5 rounds and Alves was bigger at 185 lbs PLUS!
What lightweight could last 5 rounds with GSP? Kenny would get owned in like 2 or 3 rounds if GSP wasn’t trying to be friendly.
IN FACT, They would NEVER EVEN DO THE MATCH UP because everyone knows Kenny would be destroyed. BJ has at least won a couple rounds off GSP.
by Bennie Blanco on Aug 1, 2009 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions
BJ won ONE round against GSP. Years ago. Thanks to an eye poke.
And we have heard this same song and dance from BJ about taking trainng seriously many times. I’ll believe it when I see it.
That said, I agree that no other LW would have lasted as long as BJ did against Georges, and I fully expect him to roll over Kenny next weekend — but Kenny is no joke and BJ needs to bring his A-game.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 1, 2009 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions
well seeing as how gsp cant finish a fight to save his life, i beleive that any lightweight could last as long as bj did.
GSP in no way dominated alves, alves held his own very well and didnt use his tools like he should have but taking nothing from gsp he did win every round, but didnt dominate
by UltimateSquint on Aug 1, 2009 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions
thats eye oke affected the nose of GSP before the eye poke occured, crazy strikes from Penn huh, break a nose due to an eye poke 30 seconds before the eye poke happened. You dont spend the night in a hospital because of an eye poke, my 2 year old son just poked me in the eye and i walked it off . . .
by ( (Adam G) ) on Aug 1, 2009 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Just because that was totally boring and painful to watch does not mean that GSP didn’t dominate. The closest thing Alves had to any offense in 25 minutes was standing back up a couple times.
by PW on Aug 1, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions
Adam, please tell me you didn’t just compare an eye poke from a two-year old to that of a professional fighter. And yes, you do spend time in the hospital from an eye poke, Mr. Einstein.
An eye poke is one of the most painful and debilitating injuries you can recieve in a fight. Ask Anthony Johnson. It is agonizingly painful and causes your body a great deal of damage stress. It also screws up your vision and depth perception, leading to getting hit in the face more.

Mania, this post deletion crap is getting really lame. I’m reading stuff where guys are openly calling other guys ret@rds, but you hold my stuff back? Whatever.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 1, 2009 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions
I like Alves and believe he may be able to beat Gsp one day. That said, he got taken down 10 times in that fight. Getting taken down 10 times in one fight is being owned.
by Kdog on Aug 1, 2009 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions
Thank you Kdog. Alves was owned.
I also like him and think he could win against GSP one day, but the guy got owned.
Winning 5 rounds is getting owned. 50-45 is owned. That means you didn’t even win 1 round!
Think about this, did Alves even win 1 minute of the 25 minutes? 1 minute? I don’t think so.
And give me a break, NO LIGHTWEIGHT COULD LAST 5 ROUNDS WITH GSP. Kenny could NOT. Frankie Edgar could not. MAYBE Shrek the steroid man could. No one else is well rounded/strong enough to fight GSP 5 rounds in the LW division.
by Bennie Blanco on Aug 1, 2009 5:54 PM EDT up reply actions
A roided Sherk already fought GSP and got his nose smashed in and lost by TKO in the second round.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 1, 2009 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions
And I should add that the GSP that destroyed Sherk is but a shadow of the GSP that we see today. Today’s GSP would destroy the GSP that made Sherk scream out loud in pain and quit.

jj i can tell by your posts that you really know your mma, much more than any one that posts here. your analysis is right on, and most evryone else that posts here, like adam or kevin are clueless, they let who their favorite fighters are influence their decision making. saying all that i cant believe you think bj will beat kenny. kenny has evolved tremendiously, i see kenny winning easily, and bj wont win more than one round. i also predicted prior to the bj2 and alves fights with gsp, that neither one of them would win a single round of gsp. i will also be right in this prediction, kenny will dominate bj, watch.
by dtoto on Aug 1, 2009 6:20 PM EDT up reply actions
Well I appreciate the compliment dtoto, but I’m sticking with BJ. I like Kenny, I know he has evolved bigtime and my heart is rooting for him, but my brain insists that until someone proves otherwise, BJ is the man at 155. Hey, this is a case where I’d love to be wrong.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 1, 2009 6:24 PM EDT up reply actions
JJ, like gsp said, i dont think bj will have any answers to what kenny will bring to this fight. kennys overall standup is better than bj, yes bj has better boxing, but its not a boxing match. i think the majority of this fight will be standing, kenny has great muay thai, he will pick bj apart with his longer reach, and leg kicks, and fight similar to when he fought huerta. they will both neutralize each other in the ground, even though bj has better bjj, neither of them will submitt the other. working with gsp will make this fight seem easy when he fights bj. lets see who is right, but im predicting total domination by kenny, i see bj winning one round at the most.
by dtoto on Aug 1, 2009 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Kenny definitely has the better kicks and should use them to keep distance from BJ’s hands. But BJ just has some of those intangibles that don’t show up on paper, like toughness and a great chin. I think he has something to prove as well. Anyway, let’s wait and see what happens. Man, I can’t wait for both of these main events.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 1, 2009 6:55 PM EDT up reply actions
LOL! Total domination by Kenny?!
I guess everyone, including Vegas doesn’t know what you do(dtoto). BJ is the favorite in this fight AND BJ is in amazing shape, the best of his life. He will bring pain on Kenny. Kenny will not be able to hang. Yes, Kenny has some good pitter patter strikes that he can hit and run with BUT does that last in a 5 round fight? I don’t think so.
BJ doesn’t even need to have a good chin against Kenny “No Power” Florian. BJ is going to OWN Kenny in every way. You must understand that BJ just came from a devastating loss and his ego was bruised.
He will be stronger and more focused than we have ever seen him.
by Bennie Blanco on Aug 1, 2009 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions
blanco, we will see who is right, my predictions are usually dead on, and i would be willing to bet my winning percentage of calling winners is right near the very top. Some people also thought the same thing when i predicted long ago, anderson, would finish hendo, the man with the iron jaw , or that machida would be champion. I also predict for at least the next 3 yrs, not only will machida not lose a fight, he will not even lose a round, yes those are bold predictions, but time allways proves me right.I also predict evans to beat rampage, machida destroys shogun, anderson destroys forrest, and kenny easily dominates bj. its great to like bj, by the way i hate florian, but i think he has taken it to the next level. lets make a smple bet, if kenny wins like i said, and bj doesnt win more than 1 round, just admitt that your analysis is not up to par with mine.

I doubt that Forrest will dominate Silva. He might pull of an upset, but no way does he dominate!
by allamerican on Aug 1, 2009 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions
see thats the problem. to me forrest winning would not be an upset, forget the odds. forrest is bigger and stronger. the former lw world champion. i dont think silva would be picked as favorite against rampage or mauricio and forrest beat both of them. im taking forrest for the win in dominate fashion. he has got more to loose. i think this will be the best forrest we have ever seen.
i’ll stop right there at risk of sounding like i have a man crush on forrest.
by day1er on Aug 1, 2009 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions
haha…I wouldn’t be the one to say you’ve got a man crush, but I can’t speak for everyone! I suppose saying it would be an “upset” is the wrong way to put it because your right, Forrest will have a size and strength advantage in the fight. And I myself picked him to win in both the Shogun and Rampage fights so I guess an upset goes out the window with Forrest no matter who the opponent!
by allamerican on Aug 1, 2009 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Silva will be 215LB + when he steps in the ring for his 205LB, when he fights at 185 he’s around 205LB for the fight I believe? What is Forrest weigh when he steps in the octagon?
by Beaver on Aug 1, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Forrest will be a solid 225. 230 at the most. LOL at Forrest ‘dominating’ Anderson Silva. And yes, Anderson would definitely be the odds favorite against Shogun, and probably against Rampage as well.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 1, 2009 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions
mark my words jj. forrest is going to have his way with silva.
by day1er on Aug 1, 2009 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Forrest has more to lose . . .? he has nothing to lose, thats the point and the reason he shouldnt hold back. Anerson has his streak, p4p status, future at 205, possible title shot next or eventually (maybe) etc etc etc . . . No one expects Forrest to win so PLEASEEEEEE explain one thing he has got to lose? Thats like saying Kenny has got it all on the line in his fight against BJ . . . actually even Kenny has more to lose than Forrest, a loss means a long wait for a 3rd title shot, but Forrest??
by ( (Adam G) ) on Aug 1, 2009 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions
adam g, listen bro. forrest is the big guy. who wants to get their ass kicked by the little guy. if forrest looses thats 2 in a row. for most fighters that would mean go get some wins & work your way back. if anderson looses big deal he went up in weight class. he still keeps his mw title (well until dan takes it) he still is a dominant middle weight. seems to me more pressure is on forrest. but thats ok he is going to beat that ass!

Day 1er-
How ’bout a friendly wager? Screen name change for a month, perhaps? The only problem is that nobody ever honors those bets.
by Jeremyjackson on Aug 1, 2009 4:54 PM EDT up reply actions
im in jj. we’ll need to hammer out the details but im def in. are you taking anderson just for the win, or are you thinking stoppage? im not betting forrest to finish, but def a convincing win.
by day1er on Aug 1, 2009 5:36 PM EDT up reply actions
I have forresto n this one too. Forrest!
by Bennie Blanco on Aug 1, 2009 5:55 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m definitely thinking stoppage, but let’s just say whomever’s guy wins the fight wins the bet. If Anderson wins, you need to change your screen name to JJ™_is_God for a period of one week. If Forrest wins, I will change my screen name to day1er_is_God for a period of one week. Kind of lame, I know, but I can’t think of anything better right now with this hangover. I am open to other name changes, but they must be determined now.
One important stipulation: the loser MUST POST under this new handle in the results thread and MUST POST at least once a day in a relevant thread (on the front page) with said handle for that one week period (until 12 midnight eastern time Sunday August 16th). The reason for this is that dudes have a penchant for disappearing for a while when name changes are involved.
You know I post more often than you do these days, so you’ll be getting your money’s worth. :-) And you can rest assured that I honor my bets. I expect the same from you.
Cyber-shake on it and we’re good to go buddy. Cheers.

Anderson Silva callin’ Robert Drysdale an idiot is just like the equivalent of sayin’ Travis Lutter’s ground game doesn’t really worry him much. WE just don’t know if Forrest could manhandle him on the ground. His body type seems like a puff of cotton candy compared to Anderson Silva’s rock-solid frame…

LOL, JJ, I wouldn’t fight John, I like him and respect his opinions and don’t want to hurt someone I like!
Actually, unfortunately, I haven’t heard from John in a while! He used to text with me daily (in april), then he stopped! He came on here (when event was first announced) and said me and him were going to set this trip up, invited me to stay with him! He hasn’t helped (except for getting me in touch with one of his “buddies” who bought a ticket), he hasn’t bought a ticket or even attempted to contact me about it! Anyone else and I would have stopped chasing them months ago, but I was looking forward to meeting and watching an event with such a hardcore fan like John! Perfect Preparation Prevents Pathetic Performance. At a high level, fighting with emotion may increase fighting ability. When a person can sieve the right aspects from their emotions, and is ‘in control’, not allowing the emotions to overwhelm and cloud judgment and action. I believe such a fighter is Anderson Silva. Marcus Davis should know about being overwhelmed with emotion

Forrest has the heart of a lion and I think he’s GREAT but I think Anderson has far more technical skill and is a much better striker than Forrest. Look at it this way… Anderson is simply better at what Forrest is really good at. Forrest’s strength is his striking and his determination. Anderson’s strength as fighter is that he’s one of the best strikers in the sport. Skill against skill, Anderson wins that one.
Forrest has improved his strategic approach to fights but I think he’s going to feel pushed to stand and strike against Anderson and I think he’s going to lose at that game. Anderson’s pinpoint accuracy & speed will just be too much. If he stands and strikes, he’s going to get peppered & I think the eventual result will be that Anderson will land a shot that dazes Griffin and then you’ll see Anderson rush in and finish Forrest in devastating style.
If Forrest tries to get inside I see the fight ending like both Rich Franklin’s fights. If Forrest goes to the ground, he’ll be in dangerous waters and risking getting submitted.
Anderson, Round 2, TKO due to strikes
BJ vs Florian
This is a tougher one for me but I give advantage to BJ. If this turns into a war of attrition, I give it to KenFlo.
Strength Comparison?
- BJJ = BJ.
- Take Down Defense = BJ.
- Striking = draw
- Cardio = Florian
If BJ is to win, I think he’ll do it emphatically within 3 rounds. If it goes beyond 3, I’ll give it to Florian by decision.
by mmajunkie on Aug 2, 2009 2:54 PM EDT reply actions
i think that bj has the edge when it comes to power and jiu-jitsu skill. i can’t see kenny beating bj in any other way unless he out conditions hium and takes him the distance. in my eyes that’s kenny’s only chance. when it comes to silva and griffin, i give the edge to silva in overall ability to finish a fight. i can’t see griffin finishing silva, but silva has a lot of tools with the capability of finishing the fight.
