Might have to take a look at an Almeida, Leites, Neer parlay and maybe throw 50 bucks on a Griffin/Florian parlay just in case
by O damn he got caught on Jul 31, 2009 8:19 AM EDT reply actions
Almeida, Leites, Neer pays out 2 to 1, real risky though.. $50 on a Griffin, Kenflo parlay would pay out $440.00 but thats probably not happening.. hmm, John any ideas? Where to put my $$ at?

Im betting BIG on BJ. BUt thats just silly old me judging fighters on how they fight instead of what they say!
Only way to make money on this event is yu have to have the ballz to bet on the big favorites even though the odds are scray. bJ and Anderson wont lose their fights. Leites will easily win. Neer is going to win as well.
Best bet = BJ Penn! No doubt in my mind that he will beat Kenny!
by john G on Jul 31, 2009 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions
Betting on BJ = waste of money. Kenny is going to frustrate poor Penn into making mistakes and Florian is one of the best at capitalizing on mistakes. Too much hype around BJ’s boxing skills…he beat up a wrestler pretending to be a boxer with stumps for arms. Kenny has a slight reach advantage and he’ll mix it up on the feet and won’t be coming straight forward like Sherk did. BJ does have a great jab though and he’s got some nice combos to follow it up but Kenny has better footwork than BJ’s recent LW opponents. Kenny’s striking is underrated…he may not have KO power but he’s very technical and he’s more accurate than Sherk or Stevenson or Pulver.

I promise you buster that BJ wont lose this fight!

Interesting. Penn’s odds have improved since I last checked. Grove/Almeida and Sadollah/Hendricks are sooo tough to call.

I’m tempted by an Anderson, BJ, Leites parlay. I’m getting slightly better odds than listed above. Might stick around $70 on it. Returns about $170 so a nice $100 extra if it pays off.

Ive got Ken/Silva/Almedia parlay, risky but good odds.
Wht do people think about neer vs pellegrino? At +175 i think pell is a good bet. Any thoughts?
by Sparrow on Jul 31, 2009 8:33 AM EDT reply actions
Don’t see it happening; Neer has been impressive lately and Batman is going to have a lot problems with him imo. It’s a tough fight; this is a tough card to bet on, I don’t like throwing down a big sum on a huge favorite with a high risk/low reward return. It’s almost guaranteed money I guess if I throw down on A. Silva, but if by some chance he lost, I’d be pissed. I’m rooting for Penn, but as far as straight $$ on him, I can’t say that Ken Flo isn’t a threat. I’m havin a hard time getting comfortable with any of these bets.
by O damn he got caught on Jul 31, 2009 8:37 AM EDT up reply actions
I’m with you guys. This is a very difficult card to bet on IMO. The only bet I currently have is Leites parlayed with Cyborg (and was Fedor and Gegard as well) in a cross event parlay.
Anderson Silva/Kendall Grove parlay is quite interesting to me. As long as Kendall can keep the fight standing, he holds a nice advantage in the standup department. The problem is that you never know which Kendall is going to show up. Sometimes he looks like he has potential to be Top 10 in the division, and other times he looks like he belongs in Adrenaline MMA. I am only throwing a minimal amount on this parlay when I do place it.
Kenny is mighty tempting. If he hits better than +200 I will have to reconsider betting on the main event.
by ViolentMike on Jul 31, 2009 9:16 AM EDT up reply actions
When has Kendall ever shown he has potential to be a top 10 MW VM? His win over Tanner was nice but he hasn’t done much since winning TUF. I see Big Dog getting a hold of one of Kendall’s long limbs and tapping him in this one.
by Buster Bluth on Jul 31, 2009 9:56 AM EDT up reply actions
His win over Belcher was very impressive and he smacked the bejesus out of Jason Day. Being 6’6" in the MW division gives you a reach advantage over everyone. With that reach advantage and muay thai skills along with his pretty decent BJJ (but he lacks wrestling) Kendall has the tools to be Top 10 in the UFC MW division. However, he seems to lack the drive, determination, and maturity to actually be a factor in the MW division.
by ViolentMike on Jul 31, 2009 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, those were solid wins against decent strikers but he also got creamed by Cote and Rivera. He has some solid tools and his reach gives him advantages but you’re right about his wrestling being pretty weak and his drive is very questionable. I just don’t see him doing anything against the cream of the crop in the division like Marquardt, Okami, Bisping, Hendo, Silva, Wandy, Cote, Maia, Leites, Akiyama, Palhares…even Leben. That’s 12 guys that I can’t see him beating unless he shows me something in this fight to prove otherwise. There are more that could be added to that list. He needs to get the hunger…not the munchies.
by Buster Bluth on Jul 31, 2009 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions
THios event is easy to bet on. yOU odnt let the odds scare you, and you bet bj penn! SIMPLE AS THAT!
Sane can be said with Leites and Anderson, but I know for sure that bJ will win
I like almeida. He knows he has to improve his takedowns and his striking isnt as bad as it looked against Cote. Cote hits hard, almieda wasnt comfortable striking in that fight and I dont blame him. Kendall has good takedown defense, but I think Almieda will surprise us and show some craft ju jitsu trips in this fight. All else fails, pull guard.
I am surprised by the odds. Kendall has good value, but I have a feeling those limbs are going to get snapped!

Guys that act like they are just throwing around cash on fights (and underdogs, huge underdogs!) in this economy, and act like they have tickets to every event (when they are bank to buy and travel to etc) while they sit on here all day and apparently dont work, sound ike and look like fools. It use to be “i like this guy, i like this guy, see you guys on here after the fights and good luck with your picks, yep you too.” now its “anyone wanna buy all these tickets i baught in advance for these luxery box seats and im throwing down 1,000 on the biest underdog of the year against a guy on the p4p list since 3 fights into his career . . .” GET REAL!!! WE DONT BUY IT, OR AT LEAST I DONT, YOU DONT hAVE TO ACT LIKE MR’CASHINSTIEN TO IMPRESS US WHEN WE ALL KNOW YOU CANT EVEN AFFORD THE PPV AND ARE WATCHING IT ON JUSTINTV . COM. WEENIES!

hahahaha so what you are saying is that if i would have said i was betting 5 dollars on bj that would be ok, but the fact i’m betting more on kenny , it’s not??? i agree with the luxury box seats and dropping thousands on dumb bets, but this is not a dumb bet! Kenny is on a 6 fight win streak and holds a record of 8-1 !! he is not at all a bad fighter, he is the legitimate #1 contender for a reason!! yeah bj is good, but his head is to big, his ego is what kills him, despite the odds kenny has a very good shot at taking this one! Forrest/silva just depends on how crazy forrest gets if he fights the smart fight like against rampage he will win, if he just goes out swingin like against bonnar/jardine he will get dropped rather quickly!! Silva hasn’t really had a “fight” in awhile , so it will be interesting to see how well he does against someone who isn’t just gonna lay on his back the entire fight!! this bet is not that far fetched in my eyes!!
by TheDragon on Jul 31, 2009 11:40 AM EDT up reply actions
well shall see ladies we shall see i know kenny will win, forrest if he stays smart can win too , he just can’t get to aggressive and attack with no regard !!

if my previous post ever comes through i meant bj is 8-1 in ufc LW and kenny is 9-2 in the ufc

add ludwig and gomi to that . . . what is he now?
by ( (Adam G) ) on Jul 31, 2009 12:20 PM EDT up reply actions
and besides he’d be 8-1-1 dude, do some research. 10-1-1 in the LTWT division. Beating guys like Sherk, Pulver, Gomi, Ludwig, Thomas, Stevenson, Serra, Uno . . . Beating Sherk/Gomi is 10 times the work Kenny has ever put in at LTWT and if BJ wasnt bust persuing bugger and badder dudes for most of his career im sure he would have racked ’em up at LTWT including Florian by now. Get real.

well when kenny wins next week we’ll see who should do their research!! and if you’re sons mom is dating a tool now , what’s that make you?? a bigger tool!!!

Fedor speaks.
He says he has 3 fights left on his M-1 deal, then “who knows after that”.
I guess it’s no different than the Randy Couture thing when he was trying to fight Fedor…just roles are reversed.
by introvert on Jul 31, 2009 9:51 AM EDT reply actions
Here’s my take on what the UFC should do….
You offer Fedor a deal that pleases everyone. A 6 fight deal that hinges on winning his first 3 fights. Co-promote with M-1 for the first 3 since Fedor is under contract with them for 3 fights. You put him in with Brock right away. The ratings will take care of most of the profit loss that they would have to hand over to M-1 anyway, and we as fans get the fight we want.
If he wins, then obviously people are going to tune in to watch him defend his title, and PPV numbers stay up. If he defends the title twice, then the next 3 fights kick in and he stays under UFC contract without M-1 involvement. The UFC now has their guy, and M-1 has made their money, and got their marketing exposure they are looking for. The UFC is happy…M-1 is happy…and we are happy.
If he loses to Brock, the UFC has established that they indeed have the #1 guy in the world at HW and they no longer have to answer the “what about Fedor?” question at every single press conference or television interview. Then for his 2nd and 3rd fight you match him up against Couture, then CroCop which would both be HUGE fights…once again ratings take care of most of the money lost to M-1. Then Fedor is free to go if he so choses. Once again…the UFC is happy…M-1 is happy…and we are happy.
I know I’ll take some flaming for this…I’m prepared.
Peace.
by introvert on Jul 31, 2009 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions
Id just wait, tell fedor to fight the next 3 sooner than later, probably by the end of 2010 which is just a year (not that long seeing as how its been like 8 years of wanting him and not getting him) then say f*ck m-1 and keep all the profits for yourself, NO M-1!!!!! Thats probably what dana thought as soon as he figured out that this guy aint no “owner” he just has a fiht contract, thats easy to wait out, that guy fink isnt being rude about the ufc in his vid interview cause he knows fedor is gonna leave and hes gonna be out in the cold.
by ( (Adam G) ) on Jul 31, 2009 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions
i guess my point is, why take a profit loss when you could wait a year and make as much as your 5 most popular ufc’s combined, and settle up on this "best fighter in the world issue . . . without Stink/M-1.
by ( (Adam G) ) on Jul 31, 2009 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions
I don’t disagree with you, Adam. But under your scenario, there is no control of the situation. You’re assuming Fedor will sign after the 3 fights are done… that’s a bog assumption and leaves someone else holding the trump card.
I would think Dana White would pay 5 million dollars out of his pocket right now and give it to anyone if they somehow had enough power to stop everyone from asking him “what about Fedor?” at every turn.
JMHO
by introvert on Jul 31, 2009 10:49 AM EDT up reply actions
Does M-1 even promote fights??? Or do they just call themselves ‘promoters’ to force legitimate promotions to ‘co-promote’ for the right to have Fedor on the card? I guess my big question here is what HWs are under contract to M-1 that Fedor could fight in a M-1 event?
by PW on Jul 31, 2009 10:50 AM EDT up reply actions
They are promoters, and yes they promote fights. How do you “force” people to promote fights for you? Does Oscar De La Hoya “force” fighters to get in the ring with his fighters? Co-promotion is the norm in boxing and has been done forever…it’s kind of masked in American MMA because the UFC so steadfastly refuses to do it. Other than the UFC, most (if not all) other promotions do it. It’s not an M-1 only type of thing.
by introvert on Jul 31, 2009 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions
big assumption lol.
Although maybe it’s a bog assumption too.
by introvert on Jul 31, 2009 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions
lol, thouht the same thing, “did he mean??” “could be either i guess, both have a share of truth to them lol”
by ( (Adam G) ) on Jul 31, 2009 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions
To me a true co-promoted event, say between Srtikeforce and Affliction, means each side splits the production costs, each side provides 3-4 fights, then at the end after the fighters and bills have been paid each side takes an amount of the profits proportionate to the amount they invested. M-1 just sounds like they’re saying ‘you do all the work, you front all the money, we’ll take half at the end in addition to Fedor’s salary, and in exchange you get Fedor on the card.’
Reports from Kevin Iole say M-1 knows nothing about how to promote an event. All they want to do is use Fedor to try to hold real organizations hostage and collect a ton of cash for doing nothing.
by PW on Jul 31, 2009 11:49 AM EDT up reply actions
nice to know he has a contract for fights and not a co-owner like fink makes it sound like, that guy is full of sh*t and Fedor looks like he knows it when he speaks about m-1. . . oh, and no sh*t he is goin to be “one” of the main characters on that game . . . LMAO, the only character! If he would have signed with the ufc im sure the game would sell 3 times the units cause of his exposer in the Lesnar fight, EA probably banked on that pending exposer too, Fink probably said they were nearing a ufc american deal then it all fell through so jumping the gun to get him before they couldnt get his gaming rights sure backfired, enjoy him.

Babalu, Mousasi, Frank shamrock, and Randy Couture are in the game as well. (just off the top of my head)

…I think you are underestimating EA Sports. They aren’t at the top of the heap in video games for nothing, and they will produce a great game and market the shit out of it.
by introvert on Jul 31, 2009 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions
maybe, i just dont see it. And none of those fighters (besides randy) have much star power here in the USA, like fedor. Frank kind of, pretty popular after Le and diaz kicked his *ss, they’d have better luck with Ken as far as marketing him here. the ood thing is that the USA isnt the only place they play video games so theres a plus . . .
by ( (Adam G) ) on Jul 31, 2009 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions
They don’t have to market the fighters if their video game is the shit.
I’m no expert, but the majority of video game players are probably not guys that buy a flat of beer once or twice a month to watch UFC PPV’s…they’re guys who live in their mom’s basement with headsets on while playing whatever fuking video game they can get their hands on…they play the best game.

Sakara has the best underdog ratio. I can see him being either submitted or knocking thales out which I’m sure most people wouldn’t mind.
by PACO on Jul 31, 2009 9:51 AM EDT reply actions
I can’t knock anyone for betting on Florian. Personally, i think BJ wins this fight, but there’s a lot of value in a bet on Florian. I do believe Florian is an underdog, but i would expect him to be somewhere in the +130 to +140 range. There’s value in Florian +180.
I agree with John G, the best way to make money, especially on this card, is to have the sack to throw down big on the favorites. I think a BJ to Anderson parlay is a lock, it’s just a scary amount to have to risk so much for the minimal reward….it’s all about having the sack!!
