Great interview. That guy seems really intelligent.

I like Strikeforce even more now!

and peeps wonder why the ufc doesn’t cross-promote?, this is why!!

all these other org’s that ‘claim’ they are all about cross-promo, and helping put on big fight or helping eachother~ is all bullshit..

at the end of the day, you care about your own investment, not someone else’s!

by stinky~fingers on Jul 30, 2009 10:06 AM EDT up reply actions

fedor! just take the money and whoop some ufc hw butt!~

please, just take the deal!

by stinky~fingers on Jul 30, 2009 10:08 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe Finkelchtein has something over him. Maybe it’s the Russian mafia or something else. Why wouldn’t he take the deal otherwise, because he doesn’t like the UFC? This is BULLSHIT!

Although, if Fedor does fight in Strikeforce, it would be a minor consolation.

by Kobajack on Jul 30, 2009 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions

strikeforce can offer him the same contract, minus the 5mill a fight~

the cross-promo thing is the lamest excuse i have ever heard!

he can wear all the m1 gear and m1 get ppv %~ thats basically cross-promo!

i want to know what the fock is going on~

no way coker will pay him that much! he said it right in the vid about fighter pay-rate..

so if it’s not cash? then then what?

by stinky~fingers on Jul 30, 2009 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Finkelchtein probably threatened his family or something . . .

by Kobajack on Jul 30, 2009 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions

I really hope Fedor has the mind and will of his own. Otherwise he’s the latest Frankenstein’s monster, or more precisely — Finkelchtein’s monster.

by Kobajack on Jul 30, 2009 10:19 AM EDT up reply actions

Finkel-is-einhorn or whatever his name is has Fedor’s wife and kids bound and gagged in his cellar. I aint joking, he must have for Fedor to have this crook as his manager! He aint looking out for Fedor’s best interests, he’s holding the guy back from fulfilling his true potential.

by attakdog on Jul 30, 2009 10:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Fedor “Finkelchtein’s Monster” Emelianenko.

It’s time to join hands and cry.

by Kobajack on Jul 30, 2009 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions

All that’s missing is the bolt through his neck!

by attakdog on Jul 30, 2009 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe that’s what it is. Finkelchtein did in fact create him; a veritable composite of Ivan Drago, Stalin, a bit of Lenin, a tiny bit of John Lennon too, attached Rasputin’s prodigious member, and added a dash of Anastasia (from the Disney movie).

And here we have . . .

Fedor.

IMO, it’s a done deal; he’s not ever fighting in the UFC and this will go down in mma history as one of the worst examples of mismanaging a fighter/running a business we will ever see. Right next to Elite XC and Affliction; M-1 is surviving because they’re small, but they’re never getting any bigger riding Fedor’s coat tails. What are they gonna do when he retires?

by O damn he got caught on Jul 30, 2009 10:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Totally agree odamn.

by attakdog on Jul 30, 2009 10:54 AM EDT up reply actions

The reason he won’t fight in UFC is because there is a very significant risk of losing. As long as he has his perfect record intact he can command ridiculous sums of money and concessions from various promoters. As soon as Lesnar beats him down Fedor’s asking price goes way down. He is no longer the unbeatable MMA legend, just another dude. And being just another dude is not good for business.

by PW on Jul 30, 2009 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

I wonder if the mangers of Fedor are actually trying to keep him from the UFC, they might be worried that he will lose to a UFC heavyweight anf the myth of Fedor would be over, just a thought

by jet99 on Jul 30, 2009 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions

He’s apparently carrying their entire company on his shoulders as well. Why don’t they have Fedor fight in a main event at an M-1 show then?? What does it matter if thats their only goal; to grow their business. They don’t even use the guy, obviously they aren’t capable of putting on a show that will reach enough people to make it relevant on their own. They’re milking him for every dime they can get out of him, then they’re going belly up after he retires. Watch.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 30, 2009 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

I happy you posted that PW cause I agree and not really upset over this…a 6 fight contract is a long contract…As much as I like Fedor I enjoy the mystery/legacy more…he’ll still get good fights but my gut tells me that if he were to lose 1 or 2 fights in the UFC his stock would drop as would his $$$…and remember that he says he doesn’t care about being the best and doesn’t even watch fights…I understand how many of you are upset and rightfully so but I for one can’t blame Fedor

by McArthur on Jul 30, 2009 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Great post odamn, why haven’t they used him on one of their own shows??

To hear some people talk on this site, you’d think Fedor had the fame of David Beckham, Michael Jackson and Jesus H Christ all rolled into one in his native Mother Russia. If that really was the case M1 would be using him to sell 100million ppv’s every month in Russia. The truth is the guy just aint that big of a draw anywhere outside of Japan and M1 are just minnows on the world stage and wont ever get any bigger!

Scott Coker seems like a decent businesman, but not a true fan of the sport. Coker doesn’t know if Fabrico Werdum fought Fedor or not, and asked the interviewer to correct them if the have!!!! WTF?

DAVE A that’s excatly what I was thinking. Talk about now knowing your own product. This is exacatly what dana always sees he know more about the FIGHT business than anyone else. I’m sure dana knows who fedor has and has not fought.

OD – I totally agree. Great posts.

And if this alleged deal Fedor has been offered is legit, and Fedor has turned it down …

Well, I don’t know what to say then. I am a huge Feds fan and have always supported the fact that he did things his own way and all – but I always figured he’d find his way to the UFC, and I’m starting to tire of his dogged reluctance to fight on the world’s biggest stage.

I’m not going to pass judgement yet and jump the gun, because I have no idea what’s actually going on. But this doesn’t look good for Fedor’s ultimate legacy. I am very disappointed right now.

Did u guys c the UFC’s offer? I’m not sure if what I looked up was correct but it said 6 fights, 30 million dollars. That’s 5 mil a fight, like mainstream sport money there.

by Jared on Jul 30, 2009 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah, and it would have been too much for a guy like Fedor if he gets that then Brock who actually sells should get 10 mil a fight!… F Fedor he’s russian they get enough of money in Russia, that’s why he doesn’t need to do anything

In University I had a russian landlord.
All this talk of Mafia this and that… might have something to it. I heard about absolute HORROR storys.

Does M1 want to have it’s b-levels fight on the same card against UFC talent? News flash – the UFC is only interested in Fedor and thats it. If I’m ordering the Filet Mingnon I don’t want the owner of the restaurant trying to upsell me on on buying the free bread.

Face it, if what has been reported is true the UFC has offered everything and more then it really should.

the cross-promo thing could work IF m-1 is able to get ufc shows put on in eastern european n former soviet block countries. IF m-1 could guranatee the ufc help in getting their brand and shows in that part of the world, that’s a big chunk of money to be had in those countries. M-1 might be the company to help the ufc do that. hell the ufc sure is having a hard time doing it theirself. a few shows in the UK n one in germany is hardly european expansion, to say the least. No, the ufc doesn’t need m-1’s help in North America, but last i checked, a very small percentage of the worlds population is in North America. it could be a win/win for both org’s. maybe make a stipulation,no co-promo’s for stateside events, co-promo’s for european events that involve fedor and/or other m-1 fighters.

by mikeybear on Jul 30, 2009 10:55 AM EDT up reply actions

That’s a great idea, someone suggested something similar on yesterdays Fedor post. Re-sign Werdum, also Overeem, Lashley, Rogers then leave Fedor nowhere to go except Japan to fight a trilogy against Bob Sapp every new year till 2011. It’ll be a far cheaper option than signing Fedor!

by attakdog on Jul 30, 2009 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, Dana could probably sign every other legitimate HW for less than he was going to pay Fedor alone. Then let Fedor fight his super duper sambo tournaments and cans.

I can tsee the video, what is the whole “selling out Brett Rogers” thing about?

by jet99 on Jul 30, 2009 10:05 AM EDT reply actions

He just said when he got the call from affliction saying they wanted to use Brett, that he called Brett’s manager and asked was Brett training. Brett’s manager said he was only training at the very minimal if any. So he asked Fedor and affliction to put a rematch clause in the contract if they were to fight because Brett had not been training and was out of shape. Affliction would not do it. So he said he would be selling out Brett rogers if Brett was force to fight and not ready with no chance of a rematch. It makes sense to me.

by lance2576 on Jul 30, 2009 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

He was says that throwing Brett Rogers into the ring with Fedor on such short notice (since he apparently wasn’t remotely ready to fight) would have been selling him out.

Also, he basically said (though not in so many words) that it makes no business sense for Strikeforce to have its current top HW to go into a fight like this, and get discredited – at the least, they’d have wanted some sort of rematch clause, so Rogers could stay relevant, but it wasn’t going to happen.

Fedor is officially scared of losing. He is no longer the baddest man on the planet. How many offers does this guy turn down? You can’t tell me that UFC didn’t give him one sweet offer. He obviously is picking and choosing easy fights so that his mystic can carry on. Dana should just forget about this guy because I think it is a lose lose situation for Dana. If he gets Fedor it will be for a huge sum of money and then Fedor wil definately get beat by Lesnar. He may even get beat by some of the other UFC heavyweights…Randy, Carwin, and Mir to name a few. Now all of a sudden you have a guy that you paid a mint for that is losing. Nobody would even want to see Fedor then. He is not main event material. The only main event that the UFC could sell is Lesnar-Fedor or Couture-Fedor. What do you have after that? Dana just needs to ask him, “Do you want to be a fucking Ultimate Fighter or not?”

by CaptainAmerica on Jul 30, 2009 10:12 AM EDT reply actions

I don’t think fedor’s scared of losing at all I think it’s just his management. I really doubt he’s thinking about how tough his fights will be. Besides Strikeforce has some good HWs too. Anyway, not signing this deal with the UFC tarnishes his legacy and damages his so-called mystique. I think he turns down this offer out of misplaced loyalty and Russian pride.

fedor would put randy couture in the hospital. randy is not great, and has never been great! he’s just average, and a very game fighter. he’s nowhere near fedor’s level. nog will show u that when they fight. mir is barely top 10, IMO. i see heath herring dominating frank mir if they were to ever fight. mir has lost to some absolute, bonafide NONAMES. lesnar n carwin r different beasts all together, but why should fedor, randy, or anyone for that matter have to fight guys that outweigh them by 40 lbs. r so. we don’t ask bj penn to fight for the title against machida do we. the weight differenc between lesnar/carwin n fedor is about the same weight differenc between LHW and LW. a fight between a 205er and 155er would never get sanctioned in the states, but a fight between someone 265 and 225 does?!?!?! Tell me how this is?? someone, anyone??

How does a fight between a guy weighing 350 and a guy weighing 250 get sanctioned? You sound like a Fedor apologist who has a ready-made excuse for why Lesnar kicks Fedor’s ass before it even happens. Unfortunately, it won’t happen because Fedor and his management team are a bunch of cowards.

I like coker. He seems like an intelligent and humble guy and he really seems to know what he’s doing without over extending himself. Hearing him say “you know” before and after every other word though was well annoying. It was like hearing a teenager use the word “like”

At this point, the whole Fedor thing is starting to get a little out of hand, and honestly I’m starting to care less about it. As much as I’d love to see him fight in the UFC, him and his so called “manager” are playing a little hard to get. Quite frankly, it’s starting to seem like they’re giving excuses.

Regardless of Fedor’s current stock value, M-1 is 1 man and 1 man alone, FEDOR. M-1 wants to co-promote and piggy back onto an empire of fighters and marketing genuis called the UFC.

The deal offered to Fedor has not been made official yet, but 6 fights 30mil and M-1 brand sponsoring is light years ahead of any fighter in the market right now. I mean, yeah, I want fighter to make a ton of money too. It’s about time they did. But he’s litterally 3-5 years ahead, if not 5-7 years, of any other fighter being offered that same amount. Fedor is a spectacular fighter, but the fans of MMA, his management, and himself need to realize that he is not one of a kind in the timespan of sports. Someone new that hot, better, and more marketable always comes along.

Fedor should be realistic here in realizing that this is a historical offer here that changes the payscale and opens up doors for many other potential superstars after him. And also realize that making 30mil in probably a span of 2.5 years is a much more lucrative than co-promoting a mma promotion in which no one would know if it weren’t for his name.

As much of a great fighter Fedor is, it’s internet blogging like what we’re seeing in the last few days, that has really created this mystique. Back in the day when Fedor was fighting top contendors, not as many as people even knew how to pronounce his last name or who he was. I really think if this opportunity passes for him, not only will his reputation suffer greatly, but die hard fans will never get to see any of those dream fights…

It’s now or never Fedor. This is the moment that defines you, and the timing couldn’t be any better buddy.

The relevance of Fedor is fading quickly in my book. Yes, he has an amazing record against some good fighters. But if you remain an active fighter and don’t continue to fight the best, you will no longer continue to be considered the best. If the UFC offer that I saw today is for real, and Fedor and his team are turning it down, he will lose a lot of respect. Who out there is better than the current top fighters in the UFC’s heavyweight division?

Josh Barnett. Allegations aside, clean or dirty, Barnett beats everyone in the UFC right now.

Has anyone else noticed there are no kiss ass Fedor fans trying to defend him in any post yet saying shit like hes too good for the UFC! They realise hes been offered a monster contract and has no excuse not to sign it but is turning it down coz if he gets beat then all the years of people saying hes not fighting the best is proved right!

Hope he signs and gets smashed by brock!!!!!!!!

I like Coker, he seems pretty down to Earth and like he’d be a good guy to work for.

Here’s to hoping Strikefore sticks around for a long time.

I have to admit i’m probably in the minority but I’m a bigger Strikeforce fan then UFC fan. I love the way Scott Coker does business and I believe he will be around promoting MMA for a very long time. He does not overpay talent so if Fedor comes in I guarantee someone else will be picking up on the majority of his bill IE: Showtime, CBS, M1.

If Fedor goes UFC, Strikeforce, Dream, whatever the case may be, its not going to effect my life in any way, I see so many people on here getting all bent out of shape over this guy and it just amazes me.

Strike Force HW division is barely existant, their top guys imo is Overeem, Werdum, and Rogers. But Rogers got a KO over a guy who can’t take a punch, Werdum got KOed by Santos, Overeem really isn’t top 5 in the world imo, and I don’t think he defended his title yet so he’s really not a true champion yet eiher. All of these guys are under top5. I much rather see Fedor fight Couture, Lesnar, Carwin, Anderson Silva even.

Robbo I’m a kiss ass FEDOR fan. But like I said in my post above I can’t justify this. Its bullshit. He’s really pissed me off! (like that matters lol, watch out FEDOR I’m coming). But for real get a FUCKIN clue buddy n get to ufc. How can ya turn down 5 million a fight. Either he’s scared or he isn’t allowed to drop his manager cause of Russian mob related stuff. There’s no other answers

If you go back to the last blogs I have been saying all along Fedor would never sign with the UFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT and this is a huge BUT do you ever wonder if they ACCEPTED THE CONTRACT and are just saying what they are saying to make this a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT. I am starting to think with everything I have been hearing about how he is not signing and how quiet Dana has been that he is in fact signed sealed and delivered they are just waiting for tomorrow to make this historic announcement. Just my opinion.

THE UFC FIGHTERS SHUD SHOW UP IN A FUCKIN TANK AT THE STRIKEFORCE
EVENT LIKE THE WWF DID TO THE WCW BACK IN DAY!!!

by d*locc on Jul 30, 2009 12:13 PM EDT reply actions

dude… I hope your not serious… ‘cause thats f’in’ retarded…

1, ufc doesnt cross promote, no need to give your competitors more attention.

2, WWF/WCW/Pro Wrestling, is FAKE, its all planned and staged, its like watching a really crappy soap opera or movie. You think anyone can drive a tank in a city and not have the military point rifles with armor piercing rounds at it?

3, Showing up in a f’in’ tank, would destroy MMA as a sport. Do you see the Lakers driving a tank into Orlando? Would it make any sense to do that? F’in’ no.
