Even with BJ vs Diego this card will still be dire. None of the other main card fights would make it to the main card of a US show. If we end up getting BJ then it’ll be one of the most anticipated bouts of the year preceded by the worst supporting card in living memory. Either way, the UFC wont be getting my money this time, first UK show i’ll have missed. Voting with my wallet, i’m fed up of seeing the same UK cans on every show.

Well maybe we will get both!!! Lol. I would honestly shit myself if that happened haha

Lol, no chance pal! The only other name you can look forward to be added is “The Oirish Handjob” Marcus Davis in a standup war against a fellow low level slugger. Lets face it, no British card would be complete without him.

Yea I know, if Dana thinks these guys like Taylor Kelly and etim are good enough why not put them on a us card? Fair enuff put on a couple of local fighters on each undercard but stop filling the whole ppv with them!!!

Exactly!

So true…Diego vs Penn will be a war, stack some great fights before there fight and make the card one to remember, i hate cards like this its just Dana trying to push the UFC overseas. If it ever comes to Australia i hope we do better than this! Randy is always good to watch but against Vera? No thanks…and as for Bisping not as exiting as he is made out to be IMO! Let this one suck and look forward to the next one i say! Dont ruin the Diego vs Penn fight be spoiled by a shitty card!

yahhhhhhhhhhhh because they would love to see hendo in the UK after what he did to Bisping haha

if sanchez penn was on this card then i wouldnt be complainging at all. but if bisping kang is the main event then i wont be going that would be ok to be a co main event. i dont mind seeing some british talent but not on every fight we need to have a decent main event ross pearson looked good on tuf and seemed a sound guy wouldnt mind seeing how he gets on

Agree with the general consensus here… BJ v Diego is a Main event, but how likely are we to actually have any ‘name’ or contender match up’s added to this card?

At time of writing there are 7 fights listed above, with BJ Diego that makes 8, and I’ve heard rumours of Paul Kelly also on this card.

So that makes 9 fights – 8 of which are Fight Night quality at best. What’s a general card now – 11 fights? So what are the chances of actually getting some compelling worthy main card fights to make up the other 2 fights?

Imo Bisping hasn’t proved exciting or capable enough to even be in the co main event position, and I’ve said to many times how I’m tired of ufc presuming I will mindlessly follow lower level fighters because I happen to be born in the same country as them.
These same crop of fighters that are appearing on every UK card were not the level of fighters I watched on TV and caught my interest and made me become a fan of the UFC.

I understand of course that local fighters will be on the cards in their country, as there will be fans and support for them, however I feel if they are not progressing then they should naturally be dropped from the cards, and now we are getting the new crop of UK Tuf ‘faces’ from the TV adding to the usual crop – I feel they should replace the old crop instead of adding to them, as we are now looking at a fight card with a solid main event but a very unbalanced undercard underneath it.
In every case though if a fighter is progressing and improving then they will of course move up ranks, deserve to be on a card, and likely become exciting to watch, recent UK cards seem to have the same crop of fighters in meaningless bouts seemingly pulling straws to see who fights who this time…
I’ve attended all the UK events since 70, 93 in Dublin, and I am happy to travel to the US to attend a good enough card, but I do not want to go to 105, even though it is about 90 mins from where I live…. And I find that a crazy situation to be in – I’ve waited all year for the UFC to come back to UK, I can understand people saying 95 in London was a good night of fights but I was still charged a premium ticket price for what was again in essence a Fight Night at best – and being a FightClub member In reality when I bought a ticket, I bought a ticket to an empty arena, only with strong rumours of Anderson Silva… well I’ve had my fingers burnt by the last few UK cards (which have gone down hill since the injuries of 85) so I will not be buying a ticket for 105 unless something more worthwhile is added to balance out the main event….
In this situation I think the UFC might need to have to replace some of their built up UK event fan base, and not add to it, as I am hearing a lot of UK fans saying the same as me… I wasn’t a fan of Bisping in the first place, so the only slight interest I have in his fight is if he loses to hopefully get him off the top spots on UK cards, this is something I thought would have happened with the Hendo knockout, cant believe we still have him in a prime spot after that – I could of excused the position when he was rumoured to be fighting Wandy, but that was for an opponent of Wandy’s calibre only..

No Penn vs Sanchez now. Seriously UFC if you cant ger AS to step up you’ve gotta can this show. With Bizzzzbing headlining you wouldn’t sell half the tickets for the MEN.

by attakdog on Aug 28, 2009 4:20 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I honestly think they should consider canceling this show, with the level of fights they have, it just isnt worth it. Anyone worthy of a main event is already booked up or have fought too recently to make this. Unlike most of the hardcore fans i actualy do like and support Bisping but quite frankly he isnt main event caliber especially after his last loss.

by Eagzy on Aug 28, 2009 4:34 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Anderson Silva is a possibility against Hendo aparently. That’d give the Bizzzzbing neanderthal fans a boogeyman figure they could boo at. If they cant secure that, then it should be cancelled. The MEN is Europes second largest indoor arena and unless the UFC slash their ticket price, there’s no chance of filling it.

by attakdog on Aug 28, 2009 4:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

How bout if it goes ahead with a shitty main event we get a group of us with a petition or something and let Dana see how we feel, that with an empty arena will surely get the message through and hopefully stop this farce happening again

by Eagzy on Aug 28, 2009 5:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Lol about the petition. Dana would get the message loud and clear with the empty arena, no petition needed my friend.

I dont have a problem with them putting these sh!tty shows on, just dont call them numbered shows as they bare no resemblance whatsoever to the North American shows. Just call them UFC British Fight Nights and slash the ticket prices accordingly (I suggest by two thirds at least) to reflect the poor quality of the fights. Then nobody will feel cheated as they haven’t paid premium ticket prices for a piss poor show.

by attakdog on Aug 28, 2009 5:55 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Thats actually a good shout, i just dont get how Dana can go on about having the best competition all the time then puts on a card with guys who really would struggle to compete in Lower level promotions ie Strikeforce. Even if they had Wanderlei on the card it still would have needed another big fight.

by Eagzy on Aug 28, 2009 7:05 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Well the problem is the UFC are putting on too many shows and they’re spreading their resources too thin IMO, I mean 106 is a week later, plus they’re putting together a card for the week before too, the UK’s got no chance sandwiched between those shows.

The situation’s gonna get worse before it gets better, with talk of the UFC wanting to put on five shows over here next year. That’s too many, the depth or the quality isn’t there for that. I’d rather one or two real quality shows per year over here than five fight night shows featuring the usual cans and TUF cast offs.

by attakdog on Aug 28, 2009 7:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

@attakdog – exactly mate, sell the event for what it is, a British/European Fight Night! I’d still feel uninspired to go to 105 as it stands right now though, even with ticket price slashed right down as they should be.

Eagzy – I agree, even with Wandy Bisping I still thought that was co-main event material too (only becasue of Bisping, Wandy the legend is Main event for me every time!!)

by JackScratch on Aug 28, 2009 8:06 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

As little as our voices, and small our opinions are, we as fans pay for the ufc to be what it is, what is an organisation without it’s fans…. We pay the premium ticket price to attend events live, we subscribe to channels (or pay PPV’s in US’s case) to watch ufc on tv, and buy into many other media and merchandise and money making avenues to feed money into the ufc… so every paying ‘voice’ is relevant. The fighters wouldn’t be able to dedicate their time to train and compete if there wasn’t a big stage to perform on and earn enough of a living from…. we all contribute to the funding and viability of such a situation..

There seems to be a growing number of UK fans voicing the same frustrations…

With that said in this fans opinion I feel the UK fan base is being disrespected and miss-sold with the type of events we have been seeing in the UK, and the ufc use spin doctor tactics and fight promoter bs to do it….
The ufc brand we buy into have not been putting on the kind of live cards we are being charged for… Sell it for what it is, we are not fools…
I would be happy to pay a respectable ticket price for a British/European Fight Night if it was marketed as such – we wouldn’t’ feel cheated by a so called numbered ufc card of much lesser quality and relevance – for 105 they are scrambling for a main event, a card should surely be organised around a main event, not the other way round.
IMO if it happens, Anderson Silva v Hendo is of course a main event quality fight, but it is a fight we have already seen, and as much as I would like to see Silva live, and as much as I like Hendo I didnt think it was competitive enough to excite a rematch, there are other fights I’d rather see first, plus I’m not a fan of the mouth smothering tactics of Hendo in the first round… and the rest of 105 looks so poor for the price they’ll likely charge for a ticket it still doesn’t sway me this time

I now feel scared to buy a ticket to a UK show on the strength of the UFC brand alone because of the last few events. In the beginning I bought tickets through FightClub membership the second they went on sale… however I’ve learnt my lesson now…

80 in Newcastle, fair enough it had a poor undercard but it had BJ title fight, and it was a good night of fights, and because of location wasn’t too expensive to attend, plus as it was still relatively early in the UK events it wasn’t such a bitter pill to swallow seeing the same UK fighters you’d seen on 75 and 70.

85 in London was plagued with injury, we were originally scheduled Chuck v Shogan, that’s a big fight, but it turned into the most cursed card in history, and thought the event wasnt great live either (that’s just my opinion, im not saying someone else couldn’t enjoy it) We had to watch Marcus Davis yet again, and the most exciting part of that fight was the Mexican Wave that went around the arena many times! Werdum v Vera was probably an early stoppage that received a lot of boo’s, Nate v Thales was a messy fight I thought, and the main event looked like one guy fighting another from a weight class 2 above him… 85 started out looking great but couldn’t be helped by the unfortunate injury problems..

89 in Birmingham was awfully NON-Main evented by Bisping v Leben, Pitter Patter counter punches running backwards, when Dana said in the 89 program we would see no such thing – two guys meeting in the middle until a hand is raised etc..
The most worthwhile fight on 89 was Machida v Thiago, injury again prevented that fight from going ahead, but instead of finding another opponent for Machida, or another same quality fight they removed the fight and provided no substitute..

95 started out and imo opinion stayed a joke (in the respect of calling and charging the ticket price for a numbered card)
From 95 I think ufc now thinks UK fans will mindlessly buy any card with ufc on – for 95 they were selling us an empty arena, and just were scrambling for fights for it – We had strong rumours of Anderson Silva, and even Chuck Liddell in the first instance.. 95 was handled horribly as far as marketing goes, tickets were rushed out the very next week after it was first talked about… I wonder if 95 is the reason ufc haven’t been back to UK all year, maybe they are hoping fans will forget what happened..
In a similar situation to Bisping Kang 105 now, I think Diego Stevenson was originally spoken of as a co-main event…Plus Dan Hardy was Co-main event against a no name in his 2nd ufc fight… hardly the calibre of fight card we pay to watch from US… I wont argue that 95 wasn’t enjoyable night of fights for people, my argument lies with the premium ticket price UK fans are being miss-sold for UK Fight Nights…. sell it for what it is….

by JackScratch on Aug 28, 2009 8:57 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Looks like we are gonna get Anderson at least anyway, I think against Maia if he is impressive on sat or against hendo if he isn’t. That may persuade me to go if that’s the main event. I will shout u guys a drink before the event if that’s what we get. Hopefully whatever happens they will learn from this whole mess, I’d like to beleive Dana when he says he listens to the fans and gives them what they want, so cmon Dana it’s time to deliver!!!!!

by eagzy on Aug 28, 2009 12:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree with all the above regarding being sold BS from the machine that is the UFC regarding events here in the UK; however, if we decide to vote with our feet and wallets, Dana White will only move on to other places (france, mexico, etc) and they would at least get UFC events live.

by Pete on Aug 28, 2009 6:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I dont think so, Dana wants the UK market and hasn’t invested this much brass to simply walk away. It would be a kick up the @ss for them to put on better quality shows. We in the UK have shown in the past that if the quality is there we will pay a premium to attend these live shows. But we wont just pay blindly for any old rubbish. Nobody in the US would pay a dime to watch the shite we’ve had lately.

Any more ideas who might be scrambled to headline this card??

At time of writing, BJ v Diego is no longer on the card, Anderson (or his manager) doesn’t want Henderson or Marquart yet, Henderson doesn’t want Marquart and only wants Anderson next at 185, so Hendo v Marquart would have to be forced if it was to be made…. I wouldn’t be shocked if Bisping Kang did become main event as I think I remember Diego v Stevenson was only meant to be the co-main event of the last card in UK (95) and then became main event….. is that right, can anyone else remember that?

by Jack Scratch on Sep 2, 2009 4:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m pretty sure you’re correct about Diego/stevenson JS. I have no idea who they could get to headline, looks like Bizzzzbing vs Kang.

by attakdog on Sep 3, 2009 4:11 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There are three fighters and four different scenarios that could redeem this card from being free on Spike. That is if 2 of these happen. 1. BJ vs Diego for the LW belt. 2. Anderson vs Henderson for the MW belt. 3. Anderson vs a formidable 205er (but I don’t know who would fight him). 4. GSP in his first fight at 185.

I know that BJ doesn’t want to fight in London, but he also said he didn’t want to wait too long and this is probably the last card he could main event this calendar year. Of course, this is already being scheduled to be on Spike.

What type of card could they put together for the third event in November? Some kind of Friday Night Fights arrangement?

Will they try to squeeze in 108 before or just after NYs or will it be the Super Bowl event? Will that be when BJ/Diego and Anderson/Henderson 2 takes place?

by Figtin on Sep 2, 2009 8:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Gsp fight is pure fantasy, BJ/Diego is happening the week before 105, AS’s manager says he’s in no rush to fight again. None of your scenarios will happen unfortunately.

Tickets on sale friday september 11th for FC members and 14th for General sale.

The price range of the tickets will be £40, £65, £85, £100, £150 and for the floor £250.

Looks like prices have been reduced from 95 and definitely from 70 when they were last at the M.E.N.

Likely Card:-

Main event:

Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang

Co.Main Event

Dan Hardy vs Don Hyun Kim

Main card (Televised):

Matt Brown vs. James Wilks
Lil Nog vs Luiz Cane???

Under card:

Terry Etim vs. TBA*
Ross Pearson vs. Aaron Riley
DaMarques Johnson vs. Peter Sobotta
Roli Delgado vs. Andre Winner
Paul Kelly vs. Dennis Siver
Paul Taylor vs. TBA

This means we’re still light two fights. No doubt the fake Oirishman Marcus Davis will take up one spot in a “standup war” probably against a British loser from TUF, seeing as his career so far has been defined by beating up on low level Brits.

That will probably leave Mustapha Al-Turk, John Hathaway and Neil Grove to fight it out for the last remaining slot on the card.

This will be the first UK show I’ll have missed attending live and I wont be sorry one bit. I can honestly say I’ve attended better cage rage shows than this shower. For this to be called a numbered UFC event is a sick joke for British fight fans.

I urge anyone wanting to attend this show to think long and hard before they throw away their hard earned on this rubbish, and lets send a message to the UFC that we will not stand for such inferior quality shows.

by attakdog on Sep 4, 2009 9:04 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I too will be doing the same.. first show I will voluntarily miss. Prices way to high to reflect the kind of card rumoured at present, and no main event stated yet.
I fear that if a main event isn’t announced come next week and ufc manage to sell tickets anyway, they will just bump Bisping to main event.
I hope there is enough educated ufc (ufc as the global fighting championship I have come to love) fans to vote with their wallets and show that we will not purchase expensive tickets for a fight card of much reduced quality than numbered cards.
Bring the prices down, promote it as a British Fight Night and I would have nothing to complain about, and could make an informed decision to attend.

by JackScratch on Sep 4, 2009 12:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Living in the UK and being a fan of ufc before they started their big push with live events here, I compare it to being a football(soccer) fan, and being mesmerized by the skill level and ability of the top players involved in games in the World Cup, only to be charged a ‘world cup’ entry price to go and see a lower division league match with the World Cup banner above it…
Yeah you can and will support your local teams, and enjoy the experience of supporting them, you would gladly pay your relative entrance fee and enjoy the game for level it is… you would then be most fed up if the ‘world cup’ or premier league came to your area, which you bought an expensive ticket for, only to be given a match of your local league teams.. you would feel very dishearted and cheated….

I have been a Fight Club membership subscriber for the last few years to get first chance at UK event tickets, after the fiasco of 95 in London – buying tickets to an empty arena with no fight card, and now with 105 I feel like that membership has been a waste of money this last subscription year, and I see no point to renew my membership next time if this is the way UK cards are going… I wont be buying tickets at all for this show as it stands let alone rushing to purchase them through Fight Club pre-sale…

by JackScratch on Sep 6, 2009 10:00 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m deadly serious about this, the UFC should sign British “cage fighter” and Jordan’s boyfriend of the month Alex Reid to headline 105. He is easily the most famous “cage fighter” in Britain, a hundred times more famous than Bizzzzbing, and he would pack em in at the MEN. All this talk of Lil Nog fighting there, who better to give him than the “Reidanator”. It’s win win. The UFC get a sell out and we get to see Lil Nog cave that pr!ck’s face in and watch him make human origami out of Reid on the deck. Joe Silva make it happen!

Wow guys, now we’ve got the following added:

Paul Taylor vs John Hathaway
Alexander Gustafsson vs Jared Hamann
Matt Riddle vs Nick Osipczak

This card is just breathtakingly appauling and the worst numbered show in UFC history. This looks like a Dave O’Donnell promoted card you’d find on Nuts TV not something from the premier MMA org on the planet.

No main event on earth could make up for the dire undercard matches on here. Brock Lesnar could be booked to take on King Kong and I wouldn’t go!

Are the UFC actualy charging for tickets to this???? Anyone attending this and paying needs their head examining.

Nothing wrong with that mate, I’m sure you’ll have a great time, live UFC’s are fantastic experiences!

Just not worth the money for me this time, and it pains me to say that with Randy the legend on the card, I enjoyed the UK fighters bouts first few times, but it would be about the 7th or 8th time seeing some of them again, so I would prefer more fresh global fighters.

For a first time you’ll love it mate im sure…

This card is crap. The 2 most ridiculously boring fighters in the world as a main event and Bisping? Put The Count in a fucking prelim, there is no need to televise that overhyped jackass. The Dan Hardy fight is the only main card fight that’s appealling with the Matt Brown one being only remotely appealling but still more than Couture/Vera or Bitching/Kang.

They’ll still get buys in the afternoon even though it’s free on Spike at night. They always do.

It is free – it’s on Spike TV at 9pm. UFC 106 is the following week

Thank God Randy’s fighting and that this one is going to be free because this is just a pitiful fight card.

by Vern on Sep 26, 2009 2:02 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

so is this free in the US? Might be Randy’s last fight if he loses

“Dana and his judges suck never again. Order pay per views.”

You must want Dana to get richer. Are you his accountant or something?

Decent fight card – for free. This card is designed to take away the boxing PPV of Pacquiao vs Cotto. Don’t think for a second that Dana just wants to give back. Like the free fight on 104 = please buy the PPV.

Rua beat Machida. The judges were wrong again. And I’m a Machida fan, but he lost that fight.

As far as this card. It is free on Spike, why is everyone complaining. No its not worthy of PPV, but still solid fights.
Couture is 100 years old but is still tough to beat. Vera is solid, Bisping -Kang should be a good fight. And the winner of Swick-Hardy is getting a title shot.
Then they throw in some TUF guys and some locals, sounds good to me.
I’m ready

While I agree that this card is weak, there are two major subplots. This could be Randy’s last fight. If he loses badly to Brandon, it could he be in the same position as his good buddy Chuck. It will be his third loss in the three fights he has had since coming back to the organization. I don’t see him headlining another card unless it would be against Tito or Chuck, and I doubt whether he would be interested in fighting on the lower portion of the main card. It looks as though Zuffa is setting up the winner of this fight (they hope it’ll be Randy) to fight the winner of Tito/Forrest2.

Then, there’s the Swick/Hardy fight which will supposedly decide GSP’s next opponent. This seems to be similar to the Henderson/Bisping fight where there more than likely is an undercurrent of favortism for the Brit to win and face the champ. I don’t think either of them has much of a shot against GSP.

Not sure why people are hating on this card. It’s free and if you live in Canada you get the show at 3pm for free. Watch it free and then you have the whole night to do what you do.
