DREAM 11: Joachim Hansen vs Shinya Aoki rematch set for Oct. 6

Japan’s Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG) has announced that WAMMA lightweight champion Shinya Aoki is set to do battle with DREAM 2008 lightweight grand prix winner Joachim Hansen for the promotions lightweight strap at DREAM 11 from the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan, on Oct. 6.
This will be the third showdown between the pair.
Their first meeting would go down at Pride Shockwave 2006 which would see "Hellboy" succumb to the ground game of the "Tobikan Judan" and become part of the ever growing highlight reel of Aoki’s by being victimized via gogoplata.
However the second encounter would go a little differently.
They would end up facing off again in the DREAM Lightweight Tournament Final at DREAM 5 in July of 2008.
Aoki was trying to work his ground game as usual, when Hansen decided he wanted no part of it and got back to his feet and threw a earth shattering left punch to the jaw of the still grounded Aoki. This would leave him dazed and prepped for more punishment courtesy of some nasty strikes forcing the referee to jump in and save the helpless victim.
Now a rubber match is in place for one of the combatants to get the upper hand on the scorecard.
Hansen hasn’t competed since his last clash with Aoki in the summer of 2008.
He was set to throw down with highly regarded lightweight standout Gesias "JZ" Calvancante in a non-title bout at ‘FieLDS Dynamite!! 2008′ on New Years Eve until Hansen failed pre-fight medicals and was forced to pull out of the fight with a mysterious "head injury" just hours before the event.
He was apparently back to full fitness and ready to scrap at DREAM 10 which took place earlier today and was set to face off against Aoki. The bout was officially announced, but Hansen was abruptly pulled from the card by DREAM officials and inserted in his place was Vitor Ribeiro, who Aoki managed to garner a decision over.
Now it appears whatever problems between Hansen and DREAM have now subsided, though it wouldn’t be at all surprising if they re-emerged and more mysterious shenanigans take place before we reach October 6.
DREAM 11 will also play host to the conclusion of the featherweight grand prix, the "Super Hulk" open weight tournament semifinals are also set for the event.
Here is the current line-up for DREAM 11:
DREAM Lightweight title:
Joachim Hansen (19-7-1) vs. Shinya Aoki (21-4)
DREAM middleweight title:
Jason Miller (22-6) vs. Ronaldo Souza (10-2)
Featherweight grand prix semifinals:
Joe Warren (2-0) vs. Bibiano Fernandes (5-2)
Hiroyuki Takaya (11-6-1) vs. Hideo Tokoro (22-16-1)
"Super Hulk" open weight grand prix semifinals:
Hong Man-Choi (2-2) vs. Ikuhisa Minowa (42-30-8)
Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (6-4)
Non-tournament bout:
Zelg Galesic (9-4) vs. Andrews Nakahara (2-1)

Aoki went to Thailand prior this morning fight! He showed improving MT today!

Yea he has done that a couple of times. He’s been really working on his neck wrestling and clinch work to set up his takedowns and flying subs/guard pulls because a lot of guys are becoming savy about defending the body locks or can straight muscle him around.

Yeah I remember have seen a video of him working his clinch game with Lamsongkram in Thailand!
Hey NNR did you know that GSP is confirm for the ADCC?

No i did not but now it’s more interesting. Especially after the work he’s put in with John Danaher, i give him a much better shot this time at a good showing. Maybe he might even get revenge on Leo whom i belive is confirmed. God i can’t wait. Maia is still a question though isn’t he? Especially with Hendo fighting at 103, the winner of Marqy-Maia gets the title shot so i bet he opts out.

Yep Leo’s been confirmed. That’s the buzz…to see if they are both gonna fight again. Also confirmed GG and Marquard. So i’m thinking that Maia will probably be there also since their fight is one month before and them and Silva will have fought in August. So the UFC won’t set up a title fight before Nov. or Dec.

Nice but i don’t wanna get my hopes up for Maia it would be too much of a letdown. Man i still get chills watching him hit that sick armbar on flavio in the championship last time.

Hansen seems to blow hot and cold, but I’ll go for him in this one.
Also, UFC 103 – Franklin vs Henderson at 205

yeah serious, just saw it on ufc.com. had to double take when i read it, guess it means no 185 title shot then.
in all honesty i dont know if this fight really offers either of these guys a great deal.
by nick on Jul 20, 2009 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Wow…I totally agree.
-On another note tho Hansen’s sleeve is the most bad ass tat in MMA.

Pretty good card so far should be interesting to see what Aoki does differently this time.Gotta say though Joe Warren (2-0) vs. Bibiano Fernandes (5-2) and Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (6-4)are the fights i want to see the most.
by Khaos_Warrior on Jul 20, 2009 6:43 PM EDT reply actions
Aoki’s fight this morning sucked big time, only reason I sat through it was to see the finals of the grand prix tourney.
by Woody on Jul 20, 2009 7:02 PM EDT reply actions
This is shaping up to be a great card, 2 title fights and the final rounds of the FW tourny.
