UFC Quick Quote: Tito Ortiz 'came to amends' with Dana White (Update)

"UFC is not out of the picture.... There's a possibility -- I don't know. I had a conversation with Dana last week, me and him spoke ... we were really, really good friends at a point, best friends at a point, and everything got mucked up because of the fight game.... I wanted to be a man and squash things between me and him and wish him luck in his journeys and he did the same to me. So we kind of amended and squashed things, which is great. Dana showed the kind of person he is by apologizing to me and vice versa.... I'm very thankful for Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta from the UFC and I'm glad that me and Dana (White) kind of got to brush each other off. We may not still like each other or whatever but we came to amends -- which is awesome. I gotta thank Strikeforce for giving me an opportunity and I want to thank Affliction for giving me an opportunity."
--Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and current Zuffa exile Tito Ortiz tells TapouT Radio that while he still won't be exchanging Christmas cards with the UFC President, he and Dana White have patched things up after many years of back-and-forth squabbling. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" has always had a amicable relationship with the Fertittas -- is it possible that Lorenzo flew to Huntington Beach to reclaim the surgically repaired 205-pound star like his did last month with Mirko Cro Cop? And with UFC 103 still needing an opponent for rumored headliner Rich "Ace" Franklin, could they shock the world of MMA by pairing him up with a new and improved Ortiz? Opinions please.
UPDATE: White confirms that he and Ortiz did indeed recently smooth things over via Twitter.com:
"Yes tito and I made up. Doesn't mean he's back it means we aren't smashing each other anymore and we don't hate each other."
Let's see how long that lasts ... the soap opera continues. Stay tuned.

Who cares who said it, I just want to see Tito get man handled by the LHWs in the UFC and show him why he’s no longer a relavant force. Man Tito is just like herpes. btw this could all be Tito hype and he will probably not sign with the UFC. He will hold a press anouncment to let us all know he could be on the UFC 115 card and then never sign to be on the card. lol this guys still a chump!

Yea there’s no doubt, Dana’s sittin there on the phone with Tito sayin he’s sorry but he’s really thinking “Damn, I’d love to see Chuck knock him out again; I can’t get enough, yea come sign with the UFC again d-bag. You can be the catalyst to reinvigorating Chucks Carreer.”
And by his own admission Dana picked Machida for Tito fight knowing it was a bad match up for him, so does this mean that Joe Silva’s new job will be to pick fighters that match up well against Tito Ortiz??

Just like you called the Bisbing fighting for the title a year ago? How did that work out?
I am a fan of Tito and would love this to happen, but when you are dealing with 2 men that have emotional outburst on par with a 3 year old, I wouldn’t be so fast to say I told you so. BTW, hasn’t Tito said he will be fighting for every organization under the sun this past year? I will believe it when I see it.
by BNF on Jul 17, 2009 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
sorry BNF, but it’s a bad example. For Bisping to fight for the title, he had to win, I thought he would. This is from a business stand point (the Tito prediction) which I have a better track record in predicting! The business stuff is easier (for me) to predict than fights, usually I pick the fighter I like (pick with my heart not my head) where in the business predictions I predict what will make sense! It doesn’t matter, I was THE ONLY one to say this would happen, was berated and expected no one to say good call! You guys are like a bunch of girls who only pick out the few things I predict wrong rather than give me props! Hey, whatever makes you feel better at the end of the day right!

I’m also a fan of tito…he pressence in the UFC would be similar to Brock’s…he sells mostly because people want to see him lose. What boggles my mind is that all the Tito haters or “Taters” say they don’t care about Tito in the UFC but yet they can’t help but comment on how bad he is or how good he USED to be…Can’t wait to hear Intro’s take on this.

good post mac. No matter if you like him or not, he beat Rashad and almost beat Machida, pretty impressive considering the surgery he needed! I’m a fan, but think he needs to focus on fighting and not promoting himself so much! If he concentrates on fighting like he used to, the LHW division may have another contender!

Tito vs. Ace would be a sweet matchup. I would personally love it. I think Rich would have a real hard time defending Tito’s takedowns and GnP. But on the feet Rich has a good chance of ending Tito’s comeback in an ugly fashion.

> No matter if you like him or not, he beat Rashad and almost beat Machida …
Kevin, get your facts straight. The fight between Tito and Rashad was a draw. If Tito had not had a point taken from him for illegally holding the fence for the 3rd time in round 2, Rashad would have won the decision 29 to 28. Tito squeaked by with a draw, and only because he clearly cheated. Rashad was robbed of that victory because Tito is a jackass.
He almost beat Machida? What fight were you watching? Machida didn’t take any damage in that fight whatsoever! Tito took plenty of damage! You may not like Machida’s style … but Tito was no where close to winning that fight.

Way to stand up to the Machine, Tito. He’s been talkin shit about the UFC this whole time. Sayin’ he’ll never return while Dana’s the prez and he wanted to stand up for fighter’s rights re: payments. Tito is fake, leave him with Strikeforce or Affliction. Let them sign him to a multi-fight deal and watch it bomb.

Tito almost beat Machida??
People hype that triangle as if Machida got saved by the bell or his head was purple. Machida can go a week without sleep and lay in Tito’s guard for another week and still not get sub’d.
I’d say that I prefer Tito not in the UFC because he is more than likely going to tie up the main event in more cases than not. BUT with the likes of Swick/Kampmann currently headlining the card, I suppose I can’t complain.
Its quite obvious that Rich will pick Tito apart on the feet. Like all of his fights, its going to come down to – can Tito get the takedowns.
I’ve been away for the most part since UFC 100. HOLY HENDERSON!!!!!!!!!!

why risk it…what if Tito starts winning…Dana would rather suffer through Tito’s wins/losses rather than chance another org gaining ground…Smart business and anyone with 1/2 a brain here will agree

Why does everyone want props? especially in this case when Tito DID leave the UFC and is now coming back… maybe. Can you tell me when the UFC is going to break into the Japan market? How about if Affliction will fold? and when? Seriously lets look at the things that count here, and Tito didn’t beat Rashad. When you grab the cage like a chump afraid to go to the ground then you are preventing the other fighter the chance to beat you at his game. Tito is a chump and deserved the point deduction. I really hope he lands in the UFC and is ktfo by Rich!
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jul 17, 2009 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Violent Mike. Tito had Machinda in a tight triangle, it’s a fact. Machida admitted it was real tight. If you see the fight, Machida was floppin around like a fish out of water. If Machida wasn’t in trouble he would just sit there and wait it out. Jon Fitch has been in some chokeholds and he just sits there cuz he’s tough to choke.
by Stryker on Jul 17, 2009 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
ZED, my facts are straight, and I realize it was a draw, due to a point deduction, hence my assumption that tito won minus 1 point which made the fight a draw. Yes, I see your point, but I was referencing that fight to make my point.
He did almost beat Machida, I didn’t realize almost beating someone was based on damage done! I’ve seen plenty of chokes and arm locks used to win, yet the winner looked in a lot worse shape after the fight…did they really win or was I in some type of bizzaro world?

In the case of your example, I would have to say that someone who punches someone really hard and rocks them almost beat the guy. But I don’t think anyone sees it that way. Unless I’m missing something, almost is not quite and is never a reason to consider a fighter. The question you have to ask yourself is could he put Machida in that position again? When he fought Rashad it was a joke match and Rashad wasn’t expected to win, yet Rashad still made Tito look silly as well. So do you think in a rematch Tito could beat Rashad? Actually I’m pretty sure if Tito gets into the UFC again we’d get to see him fight AND lose to Rashad convincingly. So your points are moot and Tito is Mr. Irrelavant.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jul 17, 2009 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Kevin, unless you’re a massive Tito sackrider, if someone asked you what happened in the Machida/Ortiz fight, you wouldn’t reply “Oh, Tito almost beat Machida”.
You’d say something like, “Tito was completely out-classed for 14 minutes and got dropped and almost KO’d with a sweet flying knee. He didn’t land a strike on Machida the entire fight and, amazingly, was even out-grappled. Then in the last minute, Tito almost secured a triangle, but Machida escaped.”
by Jeremyjackson on Jul 17, 2009 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Definitely know what everyone’s saying, but I’d say Tit ALMOST beat Rashad but he got his a$$ handed to him by Machida with the lone exception of a desperation sub attempt off his back in the final minute of a completely one side fight.
Belcher almost beat Akiyama.
I wouldn’t say Thiago Silva almost beat Fitch. I’d say Fitch dominated him with the exception of being stuck in a choke for most of the first round – which Silva won and he landed multiple strikes. That is more than Tit can say against Machida, he didn’t win a round, and he didn’t land multiple strikes. I think he might have connected once.
Also, when a fighter almost beats another fighter, logically that would mean that they would have a good chance at winning a rematch, since they almost won the first fight.
Jacob and Machida could fight 100 times and I would take -300 odds that Machida goes 100 – 0. Tit has nothing to offer against Machida. No one has been able to connect cleanly on Machida and Tit’s standup is awful. Go for the takedown? Everytime he did, he got tossed around like a gradeschooler.
by ViolentMike on Jul 17, 2009 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
guys, I’m far from a “tito nut rider” i’m just stating facts. he got dominated for 14 minutes by machida, yet was seconds from victory! He beat Rashad (except for the point deduction) and would do it again! If tito comes back near 100% hell be a good fighter. I remember the last time Tito was healthy, he held the title a long time, I’m not predicting he’ll do that again, but cmon guys, love him or hate him, he’s a cardio machine, great at GnP, and overall still relevant in the UFC LHW division…if healthy!
by kevin on Jul 17, 2009 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Have you ever considered Ortiz would have lost the round if he would have given up takedowns to Rashaad into of holding the fence? He hasn’t won (Draws and almosts don’t count) since 06. And two of those wins were against Shamrock. Come on, what makes you think the guy has a shot to win against top 10 LHWs when he hasn’t won a fight in over 3 years?
by jimmy on Jul 17, 2009 5:05 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No way that Franklin could knock out Ortiz. I’d bet that any day. Tito hasn’t fought in over a year so that is a long layoff for him. I would hope that he comes back stronger than ever. It would be nice to see him make waves in the lhw division. Tito stated that he would be able to fight by August of 2009. It would be crazy to see him step back into the octagon.

nobody in the UFC’s LHW division would knock Tito out and certainly not Rich Franklin if anything Tito would knock him out with his brutal GnP, you have to be high as a mountain to think that Rich could even hurt him…

Well, gentlemen, I love to watch Tito fight! He’s clearly my favorite fighter! He does come across as a jacka@@ most of the time. But, behind every jacka@@ is a Jenna! The guy has a big heart and does a lot of cool stuff, especially for kids. Keep in mind, Tito’s strong suit was always his ability to take someone down and keep them there while pounding the sh1t out of them. I’ve had lower back surgery and personally, I have no idea how some of these guys can even train hard much less fight, with an injured back! It’s core strength that enables you to use your stregth and balance to do nearly anything! Especially, take some down or throw ko punches, kicks, etc. If he is fixed, I expect great things from his fights!
by Dana's a CrossDresser on Jul 18, 2009 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know what you mean, Kevin, I think it’s just the contrast between getting dominated for 14 minutes and “almost beating Machida” that doesn’t seem right.
Machida seemed like he was in trouble but the thing with submissions is you either get submitted or you don’t, and he didn’t, so I wouldn’t say he almost beat Machida.
For example, if you say Fighter A almost knocked out Fighter B, it would imply that Fighter A connected and rocked Fighter B and almost won because of it; but if Fighter A threw a haymaker which would have knocked Fighter B out if it had hit him, but Fighter B ducked it, then you wouldn’t say Fighter A almost knocked out Fighter B because he missed entirely.
Submission attempts are almost the equivalent of a punch that misses. Although the difference is that submission attempts should accrue some points at least (if the judges aren’t f—king retarded).
That’s the way I see it anyway. I could throw up more examples but this frickin post is long as it is.
by Kobajack on Jul 18, 2009 11:08 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Now, don’t flame the f—k out of me for comparing a submission to a punch, of course there’s a difference, I’m just trying to put it in context.
by Kobajack on Jul 18, 2009 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It’s not like tito attempted to get him in a submission and it didn’t get locked in. He had the submission tight. Lyoto flopping around is more equivalent to being rocked by a solid punch over a fighter throwing a haymaker if you ask me.

Rashad would absoultely destroy Tito in a rematch. Rashad came in that fight in awe of Tito…similar to when GSP fought Hughes the first time and he came out flat to begin with. Had Tito not held onto the fence multiple times in the 2nd round…Rashad would have won that round by taking him down and doing what he did in the 3rd which was landing some nice elbows to end that fight.

tito had a spinal and a knee injury in that fight.. if rashad is as good as people say how did machida absolutely demolish him? he landed a lucky shot on chuck and forrest broke his damn hand..
tito will destroy rashad after rampage does, then he will bring back rampage, bring in bisping, and add a couple of other friends to train with and be a force again, sure rampage and bispings own camps will be in the UK for there fights but they will do a double camp setup and watch tito comeback and be a legit contender..
i see tito beating franklin,he’ll dispose of cane easily, and slaughter in brutal fashion thiago silva, and keith jardine.. so now does that not make him top10? i bet he makes it top5 again by the end of 2010 and gets a title shot

Either way this is a good move for both the UFC and Tito.
Tito is a total head-up his ass cock face at times, but bottom line is, he brings PPV buys and he can actually fight. I like many other thought he had Rashad beat… and had Machida on the run his entire fight, and lost another close decision to Forrest. 3 LHW champs.. Along with the fuel tossed on the fire about Tito vs. Rampage.. there are atleast 5 totally blockbuster fights that will get sick PPV #s.
But I think Robbyc has it… Tito vs. Franklin would be a huge attention getter.

Tito needs a tune up fight! Any fighter should have one after a long layoff and serious surgery! But, after that, I think the most entertaining fight would be against Rampage because of their styles.

Probabaly not, but Dana is a smart business man. He knows if Tito goes to Affliction or SF that is money lost. Business is Business, its nothing personal. I think Tito has got 3-4 years left anyway.

Tito is a big name but what does he think he will get done in the LHW division? The Champ destroyed him already does he really want to come back and suffer that kind of a beating again?
by TheDragon on Jul 17, 2009 12:43 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
he’s not getting a title shot…I’d pick Tito to beat 50% of the LHW’s in the UFC
by McArthur on Jul 17, 2009 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He might have a shot to finally take Liddell. No chance on Machida, Shogun or Rampage. Next to no chance at this point against Rashad. Slight chance against Forrest or Jardine. Better than average chance against Bonnar or Coleman. Possible chance against T. Silva. Not much against Bones. Bottom line — Tito is at an age where everything starts declining, and he is coming off back surgery. He’ll still be able to sell PPVs, but he’ll never be more than a fringe contender for the title, if that.
by PW on Jul 17, 2009 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Mac I say more than 50. Give him Liddell again, I bet Tito beats him this time.
by jay on Jul 17, 2009 1:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Slight chance against Forrest. Considering he already beat him its better than slight. Shogun would have a tough time with tito as well. Tito would maul jardine. Bonnar would have no chance at all with tito. Tito would outwork coleman.

There is absolutly nothing in it for Chuck to fight him again. I highly doubt that will ever happen.
If Tito was really fighting hurt for the past few years and the back surgury really did what is was supposed to do. Maybe he comes back reinvigorated and tears it up?

Forrest, Rashad, Jardine and some of the younger fighters are all getting better and are different fighters from the first time they faced Tito. Tito is the same old dog he’s always been, only now after back surgery and a long lay-off. That’s why Tito’s chances of beating those guys is significantly lower than before.

Didn’t everyone laugh at the announcement of Lorenzo leaving his position at Station Casinos to be involved in UFC operations full time? The last year has been great for the UFC. With the news of resigning Cro Cop and the possibility of Ortiz back, it is obvious that the man at the top above Dana has the intrest of the UFC first over his own personal agenda.

Tito vs Franklin would be a perfect fight for Tito. Franklin is a very good striker, but Franklin dosent have the power in his hands that Machida, Chuck, and Rashad do. If Tito actually trains for this fight I could see a similar fight to Tito Tanner.

Never really liked Tito and he comes off as sort of a dick, but then so does Dana. There is no denying that Tito helped build the UFC into what it is today. He deserves to be treated better than he has by them. Dana always talks about loyalty but didn’t blink when throwing Tito under the bus.
I am not sure how long he has left as a relevant fighter, but I would to see him back in the UFC. Lesnar needs some lessons in what an MMA badboy really is.

Yes I love the idea of having Tito and Chuck Trilogy!!! That would be a good exit fight for Chuck since he has Tito’s #. Franklin vs. Ortiz would be an okay fight, stylistically it could be a boring match though.

I think they should give Tito vs. Houston Alexander, Tito hasn’t fought in 14 Months, and hasn’t won in 3 years, he won’t be able to beat Franklin, Shogun, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, Rashad, Machida, Luiz Cane, Rampage, Thiago Silva,
Besides most of those guys are fighting other people except Jon Jones and Franklin.

Tito say whatever about him he is a headliner and it would be smarter for him to go and sign with the Ufc if he ever wants to be in the hall of fame ! and test himself to see if he still got it cause everybody says he’s done specially after back surgery! good Luck Tito Hope to see you back in the octagon with the UFC and beating Rich Ace would put you again on the map !

Well, if Tito actualy trained all that time and focused on a serious return to MMA i would say yes this could be that New and Improved Tito Ortiz. But lately i dont get the feeling that he is actualy training these days.
dont get me wrong, i would love to see tito back for sure!! BUT!! i DONT want him to either fight cans and get beaten by some slightly known name because of his age OR to be a steppingstone for one of Dana’s new poster boys “Dana: look he beat Tito ortiz – told ya he sucked!” so his status will be ruined forever among the fans and beyond.

“Dana White’s decision to drop Tito was the best decision the UFC ever made” = stupid
One of the highest draws in MMA, fought and win/lose/draw to the most recent 3 champs, and beat washed up Ken in 3 grudge matches. How is it a good decision to let him go? Because you don’t like him? Dana’s never heard of you and neither of most of us btw.

On MMAConnected here in Canada on Monday, they showed an interview taped after UFC 100, and Tito said he would never return to the UFC. He said they gave him tons of money to fight but he said if he went back to the UFC, he would lose all of his dignity. I dobut much has changed in the past week.
by Johnny on Jul 17, 2009 2:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I saw that too and thought ’that’s all spin’. Tito loves to run his mouth and make himself seem important. Maybe the UFC offered large cash, maybe they offered little or none, who knows. Regardless, him saying that came off as little more than saving face and building himself up.
Pride was the main reason for him not returning, both his and Dana’s. If they found a way to bury the hatchet (again) then it goes back to a money issue.

I would like to see Tito face against Rich Franklin at 103 seeing as how that would sell and it would fill an empty main event slot.
Also I would like to add that a lot of people were saying that Tito is irrelevant and Machida destroyed him, but Machida tooled Rashad Evans much worse than he did Tito, but he is still relevant too isn’t he? And Tito is claiming that he hasn’t been 100% until now after his surgery so maybe this will be the second arrival of a newly established Tito Ortiz.

Tito going back to the UFC is a perfect example of why fighters are treated like shit. Recently EA wanted to buy rights to use UFC characters for their MMA game. Dana White said he would fire anyone who attempts to sell their rights to EA. So let me rethink this. Chris Leben makes around $20,000 per fight, not enough for anything. And Dana refuses to let Chris Leben get any money from EA or THQ? Come on!
Tito is a sneaky, fake, money hungry moron. He doesn’t care about MMA. He doesn’t care about other fighters. He just wants to cum in Jenna and make money. I remember this monkey last year saying shit like, “I am going against Dana and the UFC because they are sucking the juice out of fighters! I think it is wrong and I am stepping up on behalf of all the fighters. Fuck Dana.”
And look at this moron. He is going back to the UFC! It is not like UFC changed its policy of milking fighters. UFC still milks fighters. They won’t even let them get money from EA!!!!
I never believed Tito.
