As Rampage would say “we takin over”. He was referring to the wolf’s lair after his ko of wandy. We all know how that has turned out. I’m referring to mma taking over.

Floyd’s fight is going head-to-head with the UFC on the same night. He wants to discredit the sport he’s going to lose buys to. That said, I’m sure his fight with Marquez will outsell the UFC. Dana knows it too, which is why he’s half-assing the card to save his big hitters for events where they won’t be sharing the spotlight.

If you guys are implying that he’s just saying this nonsense for a reaction it also means his opinion is totally compromised and invalid. It means he’s a sell-out. And by sell-out I mean someone with no worthy opinion because he says fabricated rubbish for a reaction, someone who has no substance, someone who’s opinion should never be considered again because he says fabricated rubbish just like a fraud or liar would.
On the other hand, if he’s saying this rubbish because he believes it, and I believe he is, then it’s a tragedy that someone so opinionated as he is can be so dumb. It’s proof that despite being a ‘fighter’ he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He might know about the industry of boxing and the technical aspects of it, but he knows nothing of the real world outside of that. And he certainly knows nothing about MMA. His statements are as ridiculous as that Bob Reilly fool’s (or whatever his name is).
He’s pretty much saying that MMA is a gimmick-sport created to distract people from boxing because all the blacks and Hispanics have taken it over. That is the DUMBEST thing I’ve ever heard.
He’s implying that because boxers earn more money that they’re more talented and better fighters. That’s the second dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
I’ve also noticed that the borderline retarded use the cage analogy, that it’s like human cock-fighting, like animals. They’re so narrow-minded. They look at a cage and think “men locked up like animals” but neglect to think of the strategic elements of the arena, just like tennis has clay and grass and all the shit. MMA also takes place in a ring by the way.
This guy from hereon should be seen and not heard. He has a 14-year-old mind in a thirty-year-old body. He’s as sharp as a marble.
I’ve lost respect for this guy. I really hope he gets knocked out.

I’m a boxer and I don’t have anything against other fighting moves, mayweather is just talking shit for publicity to get people morexhyped up about him and sell more tickets for the days of his fights. use ur head nextime before you speak shit u ain’t know nothing about. let the talkers fall while the fighters rise.

in mma the boxer.. they have KO power with gloves 4x the size, if mayweather fought an mma guy they better shoot for a takedown and hope his handspeed is not that fast because 1 and you are done
by randy murders on Jul 17, 2009 3:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
the large gloves vs mma gloves makes no difference. fight science ran the comparison and they decrease the strenght of the punch by almost the exact same. I think it was like a 20% decrease for both.
by James S on Jul 17, 2009 4:56 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’ve been hit by both, and I can assure you … the gloves make a difference. The science probably doesn’t take into account how the larger surface area transmits the force of the punch over a larger target area, thus lessening the overall force of the blow – and shit like that.
by Jeremyjackson on Jul 17, 2009 5:00 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The larger surface area of the boxing glove also causes the entire head to absorb the blow, not just the area getting hit. This results in the brain getting rattled around more than it does with MMA gloves while the fighter isn’t hurt as badly. Therefore, the brain takes far more abuse in boxing than in MMA, leading to elderly boxers devolving into drooling morons.

by UltimateSquint on Jul 19, 2009 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Swamp Thing Sylvia tried to stand up with Mercer. That led to his undoing. If any MMA athlete goes toe-to-toe with a world class (or even previously world class) boxer, it’s lights out for the MMA fighter.
The MMA fighter needs to be intelligent and utilize the tools that make him a superior fighter: the distance advantage of kicks, takedowns, wrestling, jiu jitssu, and a more evolved clinch game.
Even the Spider would get KO’d by Roy Jones Jr. if he chose to stand up with him. The professional specialist almost always wins a specialized fight. But an intelligent and humble MMA fighter almost always wins a vale tudo fight.
by whatev on Jul 17, 2009 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
in the early days of MMA they use to match up strikers (boxers) vs grapplers… strikers were immediately taken to the ground where the fight ended. It happened over n’ over… nowadays it pays to have a well rounded game in MMA. But any MMA guy should be able to beat a boxer in MMA (via takedowns, GnP, clinches, kicks, dirty boxing or knees) so many ways to win other than boxing or even takedowns. The only way a boxer could win for sure is in a boxing match.

The guy can’t even put a sentence together and he expects fight fans to take him seriously??
I know this argument has been played out to the nth degree but man, it’s so freaking obvious. Boxing is ONE fighting discipline of MMA. One. Mayweather may be very skilled in this one discipline but who the f—k cares? If all you can do as a fighter is punch and block you aren’t a true fighter. Period. Its like saying the rims on a car are better than the entire car itself.
Boxing is done. Its boring. There may be a couple good fighters that are worth watching like Pacqiao, but it really isn’t even close to the entertainment value that MMA brings. Floyd can say whatever he wants but he knows his sport is dying and will say (or try to) whatever he can to bring MMA down.
BTW Floyd, those “beer drinkers” you’re referring to used to be boxing fans until we found something far better. Oh yeah, and white people don’t dominate MMA you ignorant fuck!

mayweather is a beast. he’d own anybody standing up in MMA. send him to ATT for 3 or 4 years and he’d run through anybody. the guy has won 6 boxing championships in 5 different weight classes. nobody at 155 in the ufc could hang with him. aside from boxing skill, the guy is a cardio freak. with solid takedown defense and submission defense, he’d run circles around everyone.
by lefthook187 on Jul 17, 2009 4:08 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
He could, he would, he should. STFU. That’s like saying that if you take any grappling/submission world champ and teach them standup they will become world champ and “mow” through anybody. The most well rounded fighters are the best fighters in the world. Mayweather is a boxer. I don’t give a f*ck what you think he could do. Let me see it.

NO because they don’t care about boxing, no one does. When this crop of “stars” retires no one will ever watch boxing again. (spelling?)Anyways boxing should cool it with revenue talk and give the fans some true champions and not 30.

what an ignorant mother fucker this guy is.
Here’s a simple solution……Let’s put Floyd in the cage against an average MMA fighter and see how long he lasts. Then let’s put them in the ring, and see how long the MMA guy lasts. In the cage, the MMA guy will make Floyd tap. In the ring, Floyd will whoop ass on the MMA guy, but i bet he wouldn’t knock him out. The fact is, the MMA guy will last a lot longer in the ring as Floyd would in the cage….and Floyd is the best fighter in Boxing.
I still can’t get over how ignorant this dude is………what a dipshit.

by skelow on Jul 17, 2009 4:20 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Ricky Hatton’s done well in boxing, Klitschko bros., Kelly Pavlick just beat down a top rated black guy, not once but twice, Arturo Gatti was Italian which is considered white, Micky Ward was a tough SOB …not to mention, White’s have always dominated wrestling, which in a street fight, like MMA is much more useful than boxing.
Yes Floyd’s hands would be fast in MMA with four ounce gloves, but how fast will they be when he has to defend head kicks, shots, elbows, knees, dirty boxing the clinch? That dude would be so scared of getting taken down that his hand speed would be irrelevant. Can you imagine what a couple of hard Thai kicks would do to his scronny little legs?
And to argue the conditioning level of boxers v.s. MMA artists is just retarded. Grappling is much more physically demanding than standing and banging, and anyone who has ever thrown a hard kick at a pair of focus mits knows that the kick takes a HELL of a lot more out of you than a punch. Shoot, punching the focus mits is BY FAR the easiest part of our workouts…the wrestling, sprawls, clinch, knees and kicking is what really gets me tired, I could box 20 freaking 3 minute rounds.
BTW, the top 10 PPV draws, most belong to Mike Tyson, two belong to Oscar, the only place you see Floyd’s name is next to Oscar’s and it was a helluva lot more to do with Oscar than Floyd.

Truth
by introvert on Jul 17, 2009 5:02 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I disagree. They started their own sport because there was interest in seeing what a no-holds-barred all-styles-allowed martial arts fight would look like, and which styles would assert supremacy over others.
If baseball came along before football, would you argue that the baseball players who invented football weren’t good enough at their sport, so they made up a new one that better suited their skills? Even if they did, would it change the awesomeness of football today, or lessen the talent of its athletes?

Well of course. That would be a matter of money though. Brock Lesnar even stated that he considered MMA way before his pro wrestling days but the WWE gave him the opportunity so he took that instead. That doesn’t mean that people who couldn’t make it in the WWE are making their own sport in MMA.

WWE is fake…just so you know.
Boxing isn’t just popping pills, weight-training, and reading a script…it’s hard…damn hard…too hard for most of the first (and still most now) MMA fighters.
Nothing to get pissy about just because Floyd said it. Ask any old-tim MMA fighter from back in the day, and I’m sure they’d tell you that they would have rather been boxing for tens of thousands – hundreds of thousands, than fighting in the UFC for a few hundred – a few thousand.
Again…don’t get pissy about it just becasue someone you don’t like said it…it’s truth.
by introvert on Jul 17, 2009 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree. Like I said. That has to do with money. The fact of the matter is, Royce was talented in BJJ. Not boxing. Tank Abbott even had a college wrestling background. This also has nothing to do with boxing. It’s not like everyone involved in MMA had failed at boxing. This sport is made up of all of the various disciplines and therefore attracted the fighters with these disciplines. This has nothing to do with being unable to compete in boxing.
And I am well aware of the WWE being fake. I find that to be highly irrelevant to the topic at hand however.
I agree that boxing is very difficult but so is MMA. MMA fighters would struggle at transitioning to boxing just like a boxer would struggle in transitioning to MMA.
Many fighters began wrestling in high school and pursued MMA because wrestling was a big part of the sport. There may be more money in boxing if you are able to rise to the very top of the heap, but otherwise, I don’t think so.

It’s the same as when white people invented hockey because they weren’t dominating football. They even have referees and divide the game into equal time periods like in football, but they only have 3 of them instead of 4, so clearly you don’t need the same level of stamina for hockey as you need for football.

This guy has and always will be a complete mental midget (physically a midget as well). The best boxers are typically from the same location – ghettos.
Why?
Becuase no where else on earth can a 7 year old child never go to school and walk down to the local gym and fight all day. In the real world, where responsible adults live, education is the priority. Not in the ghetto.
Look at all the great boxers. Where were the majority from? The ghetto. They have very little education and spent the majority of their childhood in the local gym.
Look at it this way, by the time a child that takes up boxing in the ghetto reaches the age of 18, he probably already has 10 solid years of fighting under his belt. By contrast, a non-ghetto 18 year old boxer is probably still a complete newbie at the sport.
This would all fly right over Mayweather’s tiny little head (which sits on a females frame).
Boxing is a sport of the past. It will never reach the popularity it had during the 80s – not even 1/10th that level. I was a huge boxing fan in the 80s. I know nothing about it now. In fact, I’ve only seen 2 rounds of Mayweather’s fight (B-O-R-I-N-G!).
MMA all the way!

Heavyweight Boxing Champ. White. X3
Cruiserweight Champ. White
Light Heavyweight Boxing Champ. White
Super Middleweight Champ. White
Middleweight Champ White. x2
He is right about one thing. MMA fighters will never make the money he does as long as they fight for someone other than themselves. People and Dana say boxing is bad or going away. Boxers are making more money to day than ever. That is because of one reason. Promotions and bid purses. There are no organizations in boxing. The best mma fighter in the world will never make what the tenth best boxer will. Sad

Mayweather is living on what past fighters made for him. The fact he even has something to say about MMA shows boxing is in trouble. Why you may ask is boxing in trouble because they have to keep paying the fighters more money than they are making is one big problem the other major problem is the fights now days are boring and Mayweather is one of the main problems…..stick and move does not sell PPV.

I like mma more. But truly you can not even compare the two. They are two different animals. Boxing is not trouble. People say that because there is not an American Heavyweight Champ.
Mayweather’s 10th-round knockout of England’s Ricky Hatton to retain the welterweight championship Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas generated a whopping 850,000 domestic pay-per-view buys and $47 million in television revenue, HBO PPV’s Mark Taffet said Monday. (espn) No ufc has every generated this kind of money on one fight. They have had more ppv buys but they never generated that much money of television revenue. You buy boxing for one fight. You buy mma for several fights. You take away ever fight but the main event of the ufc and it would not sell 150,000 ppv.

It’s time one of the sycophants surrounding him informed him that modern MMA begins as we know it with UFC 1. An event put on to showcase Gracie jiu jitsu. The Gracie family happens to be BRAZILIAN.
Not white people who couldn’t hang in boxing. Fun fact: the only boxer in the original tournament was Art Jimmerson, he happens to be Duh, Duh, Dun…Black!
If only he’d get in the cage with Miguel Torres. I know the WEC would never pay him enough. He’s too much about the pay day.

LOL what a joke he is , A boxer would never make it thru first round with an MMA guy , I hope that this guy someday joins UFC and get his ass kicked. Than he will understand that MMA guys train as hard as boxers do if not even harder.
Boxers just has to worry about there hands while mma guys has to train hands , legs , elbows , takedowns YOU NAME IT

Dana should offer him 10 million to fight BJ in an mma fight put it on ppv and shut his mouth permanently as BJ would spank his ass. I doubt Mayweather would take the fight, but he might for that kind of money.

Boxing must be dead lol. The only article here that challenges this one is the Tito one, and Tito’s an overrated has-been too right? lol
You guys are so funny.

A lot of comments has nothing to do with whether boxing is dead or not and neither would it if there were just one.
It’s the fact that he made not just one retarded comment but several in succession, about MMA. This is about MMA more than it is about boxing. Although I never made any comment about boxing being dead.

Jose Aldo would kill Floyd Mayweather Jr. I would say in the 1st round. Jose Aldo would show Floyd Mayweather Jr how a real man stands and fights. I would like to a see Jose Aldo .vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. would never take that fight because he would get raped.

Hmm Miguel Torres and Anderson Silva are two of the greatest fighters on the planet! What a fucking idiot, why bring race into it? I love watching boxing but he just exudes the fear that all people in boxing hold, due to the knowledge that MMA is taking over!

Well, let’s not forget that Dana White told Mayweather that he would organize a fight with Mayweather and Sean Serk (UFC champ).
Mayweatehr’s response? A complete apology telling the world how much he respects UFC fighters and how he didn’t want to fight a UFC fighter. He sure wanted to put that offer to rest REALLY fast!
Funny thing is, I can’t even tell you who Mayweather is fighting next, couldn’t care less. Boxing is so boring.
MMA all the way!

I might be wrong, but I think boxing still pays a bit more for starter fighters. Superstars in boxing also make more than superstars in mma. That is what drives hispanics and blacks toward boxing. I also don’t think there is that many MMA schools in these two communities. Trust me MMA will take off in these communities, but it will take time. Dana has some people that can help that. Miguel Torres, Jon Jones, Anthony Johnson, Diego Sanchez, Rampage, Kenny Florian, Anderson Silva, Cain Valazquez…etc will help.

I remember the Mayweather/Sherk proposal…. he backed down real friggin quick after Dana pretty much told him to “put up or shut up”.. Mayweather’s a great fighter, but he would get his head beat in or his arm broken if he ever stepped foot in a cage…. I’ve seen Mayweather fight on PPV, and that’s the last damn time that’ll happen…if MMA’s not on his level, why don’t his pussy ass prove it…

He’s a sad, angry, frail, black man… Nobody comes running when they see him, nobody cares. MMA has taken over his dream of deing a houshold name… Nobody cares.
He’s fading quickly and MMA is rising quickly.
Not sure what else to say.
