Zuffa confirms UFC 105 for Manchester, England on November 14; will likely air free on Spike TV

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) UK President Marshall Zelaznik recently confirmed with Versus.com that UFC 105 will be held on November 14 from the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena in Manchester, England.

Zelaznik also confirmed the event would likely be shown for free on Spike TV.

UFC 105 could play host to a number of different scenarios based on what transpired earlier this month at UFC 100. There were rumors of a potential Michael Bisping vs. Anderson Silva middleweight title fight to headline the show, however Dan Henderson took care of that by toe-tagging "The Count" via second round knockout back on July 11.

With Bisping and his title aspirations currently headed to the back of the line, the UFC will likely stack the card with local talent including "The Outlaw" Dan Hardy and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 winners Ross "Real Deal" Pearson and James "Lightning" Wilks.

It will be the first show held at the MEN Arena since UFC 70: "Nations Collide" that featured one of the sport's biggest upsets when Gabriel Gonzaga defeated Mirko Filipovic via crushing head kick.

Star-divide

With UFC 105 in the works, that leaves a tentative date and line up for the next eight events, including:

UFC 101 from the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pa., on August 8, 2009, featuring BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian for the UFC Lightweight Championship.
UFC 102 from the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, on August 29, 2009 featuring Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
UFC Fight Night 19 from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Ok., on September 16, 2009, featuring a main event featuring Nate Diaz vs. Melvin Guillard.
UFC 103 from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on September 19, 2009, featuring a main event TBD.
UFC 104 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., on October 24, 2009, featuring Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Rua for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
UFC 105 from the Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, England on November 14, 2009, featuring a main event TBD.
UFC 106 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Nov. 21, 2009, featuring a main event TBD.
The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 5, featuring a main event TBD.

The promotion has not yet announced a date or venue for its annual year-end supershow, which typically brings together many of its top talents in fantasy matches much like it did for UFC 92: "The Ultimate 2008."

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more information on UFC 105 and other future events as it becomes available.

Hardy/Hughes and Wanderlei/Bisping, Dana! Make it happen. Or are those match-ups too risky for the British moneymakers? Is it time to work the UK market some more by feeding these guys cans?

I would like nothing more than to see Hardy KO hughes

by McArthur on Jul 16, 2009 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bisping/Cote would be nice too but I read today that Dana is planning on a Vancouver, Montreal, AND TORONTO show for 2010

I’ve been waiting a long time for the UFC to come to Vancouver. That would be sweet.

Didnt Ramapge “offically” annonuce UFC 107 in Memphis on his youtube clip with THREE SIX MAFIA???!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA. But no seriously, I think that will be the year end show…

It looks like 108 will be the big stacked year-end show on January 2. Rampage and Rashad get it on in December at 107.

I’d be happy with a Wandi-Bisping main event, at least I’ll get to cheer for one Silva to KO Bisping. Don’t get me wrong I like Mike but I’m a bigger fan of Andy, Wandi and Maia.

I don’t know whether Hardy is ready for Hughes, if Davis can control Hardy on the ground then he’s in trouble against Hughes, but he deserves top competition after beating Gono, Markham and Davis and protecting him and Bisping at this point is pretty pointless.

Hopefully this show will have a few of my favourites, even if it won’t be a supercard because of Hendo-Bisping. If Wandi is on the card then I’m already sold and the UK shows are usually entertaining even without the big fights, 80, 85 and 95 were all great shows.

by David W-S on Jul 16, 2009 1:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry McArthur, don’t think Hardy’s wrestling is strong enough to keep it standing against Hughes. See that being a UD for Hughes if it happens.

by WB on Jul 16, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hardy has zero ground game at all, Hughes would go old skool on him for a 15 minute wet blanket UD.

Couldn’t have happened to a bigger cock! I was standing up just repeatedly pumping my fist for about 5 minutes whilst shouting “YES” very loudly! That simply made my night, I loved it!

Swine Flu’s still here holding on, nearly got rid. Lucky I’m asthmatic coz I got prescribed tamiflu and that’s really helped shift it. Thanks for the concern.

by Chris on Jul 16, 2009 4:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have a feeling this went from being a pay per view that they would probably hype as the biggest in England’s MMA history headlined by Bisping vs Silva. But now, it’s a free card on spike lol. Oh well… I’m looking forward to seeing Wilks and Pearson and how they have progressed.

by fightfan51 on Jul 16, 2009 1:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Don’t ever see it happening but if this was meant to be bisping vs silva just make it hendo vs silva? Give us uk fans two top names and let us cheer on silva and have a chance at revenge. Plus Anderson is already well liked even from his cage rage days. Probably be hardy in the main event tho

by eagzy on Jul 16, 2009 1:49 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Personally I would be PISSED if I got Hardy as a main event. Think the kid has potential, but he is no where near Main Event caliber right now.

Kinda sucks because all the champions are tied up and Dana is probably gonna want some of the bigger names fighting on the end of the year or Super Bowl weekend card.

Who does everyone think is the #1 contender for the LW belt?

by WB on Jul 16, 2009 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Diego Sanchez is the #1 contender for the LW belt. After that you’ve got Frankie Edgar, and, sadly enough, Maynard will be getting up there if gets through Huerta.

by Jeremyjackson on Jul 16, 2009 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ahhh, true – I forgot about Diego.

I think Frankie and Diego should fight because personally I dont think Diego has proved he is no doubt #1. Beating Joe Stevenson and Clay Guida doesnt do that much for me.

And lest us not forget that Maynard holds a win over Edgar JJ – however I would rank Edgar higher as well due to competition faced.

by WB on Jul 16, 2009 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think Diego’s earned it yet either, but it is what it is and Penn/Sanchez would be the biggest and most hyped LW fight ever. I would love to see that fight.

by Sparrow on Jul 16, 2009 1:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You’ll get B level British fighter, because that is the only kind of British fighters there is. You don’t have to pay for PPV so why does the UFC cater to you guys any way?

by jay on Jul 16, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

That’s probably the stupidest comment I have heard, they still need big names to sell out the arena. Didn’t Dana promise a title fight over here after last event? Maybe diego vs bj/florian?

by eagzy on Jul 16, 2009 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You guys would pay for anything with a UFC banner attached to it. What options would you have come over here or stay there and watch Cage Rage? It’s not stupid it is the truth, what do you guys do to up the bottom line for UFC? You don’t pay a dime to see the PPV’s. Why cater to free-loaders?

by jay on Jul 16, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I disagree, UK MMA fans have started to realise that we are part of the UFC expansion plan and as such we deserve big fights….not bisping vs leben (although i did still go :) )

by Sparrow on Jul 16, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What a ridiculous comment, the UFC makes a lot of money by coming over here as they always sell out and their merchandise is very popular. Right now MMA is a new sport in this country, even most of the fans call it “ultimate fighting”, so making us buy PPVs is not financially viable until the UFC can gain a mass following in this country, as it would have a poor buyrate and wouldn’t make any money, instead they are getting lucrative offers from subscription channels so that the UFC is available to a wider audience and they make guaranteed money from the contract.

The UK is a massive part of the UFC’s global expansion. In order for the company to grow worldwide, they need to cater to fans from other countries, not just the American fanbase. Until these markets become as big as the US, they are going to get better deals in order to attract a greater following. WWE have made millions from international tours and have built up a large following in this country, so their is a lot of potential to make money this way, even the NFL are having games in London because they see how important the British market is.

We pay a lot of money to go and see events as well as subscription fees to watch UFC programming, so we deserve some quality fighters to come over here and fight. The UFC won’t get any bigger over here if they always have the same British fighters (and Marcus Davis) on all of their UK cards because people will get sick of them, we want to see the likes of Anderson and Wanderlei Silva fight on these shows, since 80 there hasn’t been any title fights in Europe so we deserve a big main event. Unfortunately Bisping’s defeat cost us a huge main event but I’m hopeful that this card will still have some big names.

Great post Dave.

by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

British UFC fans are nuts. I include myself in that. I have spent over £1000 since UFC 70 in manchester on tickets, traveling, accomodation, alcohol etc. I havent missed one event in the uk since then. Im sure many other brits can own up to an obsession with the UFC. Free loaders….. Get real. I have certainly spent an awful lot more on live UK events than a huge percent of you guys have on PPV buys. Jog on.

by Matt on Jul 16, 2009 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe but they dont give the tickets away to the f@cking arena’s d If I’m paying £125 for a ticket I wanna see top fighters and not the same UK cans we get at every show, Hardy, Etim, Taylor, Kelly, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, boring!

Great post sparrow, I’m from England too and I couldn’t give a sh!t about two bums off the ultimate fighter either.

This card has the potential to be as sh!t as 95 now its free on spike. I just hope Dana isn’t cheeky enough to palm us off with Dan Hardy in a main event coz that would take the p!ss.

LOL. Solid gold.

I do try double J.

by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

After we were given a main event of Stephenson vs Sanchez, I believe Dana thinks he can give us anything and we’ll be happy.

What p!sses me off is tickets go on sale next week and we have no fights announced as of yet, just the usual UK cans, yet when UFC went to germany, practically the entire card was decided before tickets went on sale.

This is gonna be 95 all over again only worse! The days of us having title fights are long, long gone.

by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Whaaa, the tickets aren’t free. We pay the same amount for tickets and only get one event a year within driving distance. We pay for all PPVs. That trumps anything you whiners have to say about what you deserve. Bunch of wankers.

Wow you sure told us jay, very mature.

by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jay’s going for a record of dumbest posts of the day I mean seriously nobody is moaning about the price of tickets to live events and if it wasn’t for the time difference then all of us UK MMA fans would be quite happy to buy the PPVs, but 3am live events of a new sport isn’t financially viable at this point. We don’t get free shows we get them as part of our subscription packages, the price depending on what each provider is offering. Right now the UFC will make more money by putting their shows on TV than they would from PPV buys plus they are able to attract more fans this way, so when the time comes there will be enough people that buy PPVs for it to be worthwhile.

The only thing that any British fans on this thread have asked for is decent cards with the occasional title fight instead of FN or TUF Finale level main events. Look at the criticism of 103, that is the sort of card that is constantly put on in the UK yet it continues to sell out, so we would like to see some bigger names and fights than Sanchez-Stevenson or Bisping-Leben.

Your bitter anti-British crusade is even more pathetic than your copy and pasting of an old John post.

David that post was a week or two old, I found it while looking for something that McArthur had mentioned about War Machine. If I thought he was going to take offense to anything he said I wouldn’t have copied it. Also don’t complain about the cards you get, I was at 97 and saw that Leites and Silva crap. Just saying until you pay don’t complain.

by jay on Jul 16, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

FFS jay, just coz we dont pay for PPV’s doesn’t mean we dont have the right to complain when the live shows we attend are sh!t. I’d watch Silva in a dance off with anyone over yet another f@ckink Mick Bizzzzzbing borefest!

by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Can’t agree with ya Dog. The Silva-Leites fight was the worse thing I’ve ever seen. What does FFS mean? I saw Bisping and talked to him at 83, loved him. I am also a fan of Hardy and busting balls, you guys just made it way to easy today. Shift is almost over so we will have to do this again tomorrow.

by jay on Jul 16, 2009 4:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry Jay, read it today then your daft posts in this thread so I ended up reading several daft posts from you today.

I’m just glad that a PPV is in the North of England, I’m suprised so few events have been done at the MEN as until the O2 it was easily the biggest arena in this country. Manchester’s close to where my parents live so a show there or at Newcastle, where I go uni, are really convenient for me.

I just want to see some of my favourites and I’m annoyed that Bisping’s poor performance cost me the chance to see Anderson Silva. I still blame the 90 and 97 debacles on Cote and Leites so Silva’s fights still excite me. However, if Wandi is on this card then all is forgiven. Nobody is bashing the card, UK fans like me and attakdog are just hoping for a higher profile show than some of the last English shows as it seems to be the same people fighting over here.

By the way FFS = For f@cks sake, it’s something we say when we get frustrated.

by David W-S on Jul 16, 2009 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know there are very few top tier British fighters, i cant see any of the current crop challenging for a title tbf. But Jay to expand the UFC they need to get British fans interested enough so that people will pay for a ppv, it just seems lazy to me that all they do in Britain is put on local talent and Marcus Davis.

by Sparrow on Jul 16, 2009 2:03 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Great post again Sparrow. I’ve argued on here this same point for months, I’m sick of seeing the same British bums plus a fake Oirishman at every show. The UK shows we’ve had recently bare no resemblance whatsoever to the American shows.

PPV’s never gonna take off here anyway. How can you charge us £20+ for shows that start at three in the morning?

I’d love to see AS here, Wanderlai Silva, Chuck Liddell (we’re owed a chuck fight dana), Randy or Big Nog. Just some different faces and a few big names, I think we deserve it after the cr@p we’ve had lately.

We’ve had one at 75 and 80, why not for 105??? He’d have given us Mick Bizzzzzbing vs AS so why not just give us Hendo vs AS. It’s not like AS sells any PPV’s in the states anyway.

by attakdog on Jul 17, 2009 5:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

From a pure time line point of view the only title fight you would possibly be getting are a) BJ b) Silva or c) Couture.

BJ is a main draw and no offense, think Dana will save him for end of the year or Super Bowl weekend.

Silva your best bet. He’s got the following from Cage Rage, so what he’s not fighting Bisping. Maia or Marquart will have 11 weeks in between their fight in Portland and this event. Not an overwhelming amount of time but more then enough for a solid camp (believe training camps are between 8-10 weeks? someone help me out here?) and Hendo will have plenty of time.

If Couture beats Nog, than there is a possibility he will face Lesnar. Doubt Nog will face Lesnar if he wins but Randy makes sense because it will be his last fight – remember you can’t leave the UFC if you have a belt. Once again though, think Lesnar will be saved because he is the biggest draw out there right now.

In my humble opinion, no Silva = no title fight.

by WB on Jul 16, 2009 3:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

and I realize Couture doesnt have any belt right now, I was saying that would be the only possibility I see of Lesnar fighting.

and I also realize BJ could lose at 101. In fact I would love it if he did, but a KFLo-Diego fight would DEFINITELY not happen outside of the US.

by WB on Jul 16, 2009 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

There is no way that BJ-Diego will happen at 105, BJ always takes a while off in between fights so a title defense on relative short notice against a big threat in a foreign country isn’t going to happen, I would love it if it did like. We have a better chance of getting Kenny-Diego 2 as Ken-Flo doesn’t like to take much time off, I know he hasn’t fought since 91 but that’s because of GSP-BJ 2, if it was up to Kenny he’d have faced BJ ages ago.

Anderson Silva defending his title over here would be huge, but I gave up on that happening when Bisping got KO’d. If he faced Maia at 105 then I’d go wild, they are my favourite two fighters and this is the fight that I have been hoping to see ever since Demian destroyed Herman. A card with Andy-Maia and Wandi-Bisping would be a dream card for me, no matter who else is on.

by David W-S on Jul 16, 2009 7:39 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Some Smaller names have made great cards before, and big ones Great ones, thats the risk you take when paying/staying up all night/driving miles to ee a sport of any kind. Whats the point in seeing a big name if they don’t perform.

Personally I’d like to see the same english guys and TUF winners but against some actual quality opposition, I wanna know if Etim could be that good, that Hardy’s Markham K.O was no fluke (davis is a spoiler) Hardy will never be a top ten welter, maybe Hardy Koscheck or Thiago.

TUF winners……… Wilks can’t survive at welter take the money and run, packed division and severly laking talent in the TUF house.

by Chris on Jul 16, 2009 4:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I could definately see Silva as the main event. I think he pulled 350,000 PPV (the lowest of any of the current champs) at his last defence and I think UFC can afford to give it away, especially with UFC106 ppv the following weekend. It would not be the first time they have given a Silva fight away for free.

I would definately give the title shot to Hendo, he has fought in Europe a few times now and is well liked even though he just knocked out Bisping.

Im sure hardy will also fight too…maybe agains ben saunders or someone like that. I’ve heard wandy’s next fight may be agains akiyama. no way dana is giving away a free title match. no way couture will be next to fight brock when dana said winner of carwin and velasquez at 104 gets next title shot
