How much interest do people have in seeing this fight now? Four years ago I would have been all over this, but now, not so much. Both are huge, legendary figures in MMA, but they are both well past their prime.

My guess is the best way to hold on to two guys past there prime is to make them fight each other. Better they lose to one another then give them the chance to slow down one of there up and comers. Smart move on there part.

I wanna see this fight more out of curiosity than necessity, both are such shells of their former selves that the fight’s pretty meaningless.
That being said this could still be a number one contenders match. If Randy wins then Dana could milk the old man for one more big payday and it equals another safe defence for new number one cashcow Lesnar.
If Nog wins, it’s still another reasonably comfortable defence for brock over another named fighter and add yet more fuel to the Lesnar fire. I would have serious worries for Nogs long term health should Lesnar ever get hold of him though!

You guys are crazy, you act like Couture and Nog are at amatuer level and shouldn’t be fighting at a professional MMA level. In my mind those are crazy thoughts. BOTH of these fighters would TOOL and absolutley outclass and DESTROY all but 4-5 fighters in the HW division (if that). Get over it guys, and don’t deny it, Randy is one of the greatest fighters to EVER LIVE, PERIOD. Same for Noguera, they both deserve all the respect the sport has to offer; they are both legends and we are about to be treated to one of THE MOST TECHNICAL fights ever seen on a UFC PPV!!! I have no doubts when I say that this fight will deliver. I AM EXTREMELY EXCITED FOR THIS FIGHT!! Aside from Wandi, Couture is my fav fighter ever, between the two I can’t decide which I love watching compete more. The bad ass brazilian with a heart of still and an unbreakable will; or the old school american who continues to prove that age is just a number. I love both of these fighters and when either retire IT WILL BE A SAD DAY FOR MMA!!!! WAR RANDY, WAR NOG, WAR WANDI!!!!!

No-ones saying they’re amateurs odamn or weren’t once great, but those days are long, long gone! This would have been a mega fight 5 years ago but not now. I fail to see how either of these two would school all bar 4 in the HW division!

If Randy did fight machida, the only way Machida wins is striking from the outside. If Randy got inside on him hes dicked (Easier said than done I know)

Randy is a gamer. I’m not a big fan of his at all but I cannot deny the man can make a plan and stick to it. I’d like to see if Randy could come up with a plan to dominate Machida but then again giving him a shot like would light people up because there is no way he beats the top LHWs currently.
by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jul 16, 2009 10:38 AM EDT up reply actions
Why would they give Randy an automatic shot at the LHW belt? Why does he get title shot after title shot? Besides the obvious, He’s a legend?
by jay on Jul 16, 2009 10:50 AM EDT up reply actions
Who said I think he deserves an auto title shot. I was saying I’d like to see if he could come up with a game plan to beat Machida. But the only way we’d see that is if they gave him an auto title shot and that wouldn’t happen because he couldn’t beat any of the top five LHWs. I would assume he got his title shot for the HW division against Sylvia because the HW division was dead and needed some life. So jump off my nuts!

Not true, I think Machida would have a lot of trouble with Couture, he’s been making bigger, stronger, younger guys look like chumps and IMO Brock DID have to grab the fence to avoid a Couture TD!!! If a HW fighter that comes into a fight at 280+ has to grab the fence to stop Randy from taking him down, how is Machida going to stop that??? NOT HAPPENING!!! Sorry Lyoto nut huggers, if Randy has great success in his next two fights; a win over Nog and a win over whoever holds the belt at HW afterward, then the 205 lbs champ is in for a sh!t load of problems. Unless that champ turns out to be Dan Henderson and that IMO is not too far from being TRUTH! F*CK Machida, he is not the future, screw KARATE, it is not the future, WAR RANDY, WAR HENDERSON, WAR WANDI, OLD SCHOOL IS GONNA TAKE IT BACK ONE MORE TIME F ALL YOU HATERS!

That’s the only way Machida wins any fight! I disagree he’d be “dicked” on the inside. Randy would probably get the better of any up close exchanges but wouldn’t be able to keep him there long enough to do any telling damage.
by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions
I think Randy would take him down and keep him there though, Machida hasnt fought anyone that had the ability to take him down and keep him there, thats all im saying attak
by Dave on Jul 16, 2009 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions
I just dont see it Dave, Randy’s too slow to get close and Machida’s so elusive and has excellent td defence, he’d just properly f@ck Randy up!
by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 11:27 AM EDT up reply actions
Rashad could have, at least theoretically, taken Machida down, but he never tried. Or never got the chance to try.

Shaping up to be a great card. Hope they show the Gonzaga fight. Also looking forward to Maia/The Great and The Truth vs. The Hammer. Probably more so than the two main fights.

ENOUGH with the “where do you think the future of the sport is going?” question.
Hello? It’s been asked about 1,000 more than it should have already.
