Hey NNR: When you get the chance, fill me in on the interview you were talking about Couture, when he completely overlooked Nog!

tOday is my last day in ROME. Its going to be really sad to have to leave my family and go back to Philly.

Any fans of world traveling that havent been to Rome….shame on you! Rome is like NY but with culture, and the nicest people you will ever meet. THE BEST FOOD, AMAZING woman, and some BOMB ASS HASH (but weed is very rare in Italy). This was the 20th time I was in Rome, and it never gets old. Believe it or not, UFC is pretty damn popular in Italy!

Soccer fans: Last trip to Rome: I arrived the day Italy beat France in the World cup….Best day of my life….Italy was just 1 big party

here’s a snip of it

"I am certainly capable of beating Brock, but it isn’t going to be easy for anyone to beat him. He surprised me standing in our fight. I didn’t judge his range and his speed of punch correctly and that’s my failing. I would have to be smarter with the stand up, and make some adjustments to my timing, but I feel I can beat him standing up."

"I also believe the winner of my fight with Nogueira [at UFC 102] should get the title shot against Brock. The winner of that should be the No.1 contender."

by McArthur on Jul 16, 2009 7:50 AM EDT up reply actions

and more regarding Machida

“He’s got a very unique style, very unorthodox, he stays true to his karate background and makes it work,” Couture said. “I could certainly go back down to 205 if that was something they wanted to see. I’d be interested in competing against him. He’s a tremendous competitor and somebody I’d like to fight.”

by McArthur on Jul 16, 2009 7:51 AM EDT up reply actions

if he were to fight Brock and Chida his record would probably end up being 16-11…hardly a record worthy of the name cap. America…big fan here but just sayin’

by McArthur on Jul 16, 2009 7:55 AM EDT up reply actions

RANDY! RANDY! RANDY! Tell em Cap; he’s not overlooking Nog, who in their right mind would? Randy’s too smart for that; he’s looking ahead at possibilities. I don’t know that theres anyone else after Carwin/Valasquez that should get the title shot; so I see no prob with the winner of Randy vs Nog getting a shot. It’s a little too soon for a Randy vs Brock rematch, but it’s not like Couture has a lot of time left, so if its gonna happen it’s gotta happen soon. As far as Machida, IF Randy could make another miracle comeback, beat Nog and then win the HW title back, I’d say he’s deserving of a title shot at 205. If not then no way should he be allowed to jump down from HW straight into a title fight at 205.

by O damn he got caught on Jul 16, 2009 7:59 AM EDT up reply actions

You are probably right, but you can never count couture out.

by Dragon on Jul 16, 2009 8:00 AM EDT up reply actions

And on a side note, that would be the most awesome way to go out, if Couture beat Nog, then went on to win the HW belt back, then moved down to 205 and won the LHW belt. Insane.

WAR RANDY!

by O damn he got caught on Jul 16, 2009 8:00 AM EDT up reply actions

what worries me is that he’s got 2 fights left on his contract…remember what happened last time he had 1 fight left. Not that I think that’ll happen again but it would be nice to see him go out with a win and not 2 losses to Brock and Chida.

by McArthur on Jul 16, 2009 8:03 AM EDT up reply actions

anybody else read what War Machine had to say about the death/funeral of Michael Jackson

by McArthur on Jul 16, 2009 8:08 AM EDT up reply actions

THanks McArthur!

What worries me is after Nog, Randy has 1 fight left on his deal. If he beats Nog, I expect him to get a rematch with brock. Lets face it, Dana loves having brock as HW champ because he is a cash cow. The only Heavyweight popular enough to compete with Brock as a draw is Couture, so If Brock is going to lose the title, I would assume the UFC would prefer it being against Couture.

I really believe that the UFC wants to match Randy up with Brock after the Nog fight because its a win/win for the UFC:

Brock wins, Randy becomes more irrelevant, his UFC title aspirations would be DONE in the UFC…and in case Randy leaves the UFC to chase Fedor again, He will have 2 losses under his belt making the fedor fight less important from a historical stand point.

If Randy wins, the UFC is left with the only HW who could compete with brock in terms of being a ppv brawl. Randy would be UFC champion, thus the champion clause in his contract will kick in, and Randy will be stuck in the UFC again!

I fully expect to see Couture/Brock 2, if Randy can get by my boy Nog! Fingers crossed that Nog knocks him out of title contention!

Im not all that interested in seeing Brock/Randy 2. I would prefer to see Fedor/Couture before Randy turns 60

I had to post John’s predictions on Bisping-Henderson. I just went back and re-read some of them. It seems John called it totally wrong. Read.
JOHN COULDN"T HAVE CALLED IT ANY WORSE…..

Fact of the matter is NICK J is completely right. Hendo is over the hill! is he still a top fighter? ABSOLUTELY! But Hendo is far from the mean and aggressive SOB that used to punch peoples heads off in Pride. While Hendo is on the decline, Bisping gets better every day… Nick brought up a great point that I really agree with. Bisping will use crisp, and fast striking and supperior footwork to keep Hendo at a distance, pick him apart and expose him as the old flat footed fighter that he is!

I had to literally spend years defending Machida and his style when all the idiots called him boring and over rated…NOw this entire site swings from his nuts, but 90% of the new machida slurpers, Bash Bisping for fighting the same exact way that Machida fights….Get a clue and start recognizing Bisping as a top fighter. i honetsly believe that Bisping has a great shot TODAY of beating any Middleweight in the UFC with the exception of Anderson.

Bisping doesnt get enough credit for:
-Being such a good athlete
-His HUGE size as a middleweight
-His GRANITE CHIN: Mark Epstein hits as hard as anyone…go ask him about Bisping’s chin
-Being a very intelligent fighter who follows gameplans perfectly.
-Speed, cris striking, and footwork
-very under rated wrestling. He has faced supperior wretslers like Hammil and Rashad, who all had the weight and power advantage, along with wrestling skills advantage over Bisping, yet NONE of them could keep him down or do anything to him on the ground!
Bisping is NO JOKE!!! Like it or not, he will be a top 10 middleweight for a long time.

He is going to dominate Hendo en route to a decision win, the same way he beat Leben, and you guys will all bash him for it, while I sit back, collect $300 on a $100 bet, and enjoy watching his masterful performance

by jay on Jul 16, 2009 10:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Congrats Jay…U learned how to work “the google”.

Difference between me is you, is people like you, actually spend time and energy, researching stuff I wrote in the past, hanging on to my every word…

while on the other hand, do you really think anyone has paid enough attention to YOU to actually rememnber something you wrote last week?

“Know what Im sayin?”

YOu want to bring up times I have been wrong, gambling on a long shots? then in fairness you need to post the cOUNTLESS Bigtime upsets that I predicted that turned out completly right!

by John G on Jul 16, 2009 10:21 AM EDT up reply actions

FYi: Doesnt change the fact that I still believe Bisping will prove to be a top middleweight. He fought a LEGEND and got his head knocked off, no real shame in that.

when I made my preditcion I wasnt privy to Bisping’s gameplan. I had no idea that after all the crap Bisping talked that he would come into that fight, petrified of Henderson, with a fatally flawed game plan!

by John G on Jul 16, 2009 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Do us both a favor and just leave it at that. No need to respond, because Imnot going to get into a day long pissing match withyou.

YOu want to find someone to talk crap too, there are plentty of other people on this site that will happy to spend hours playing that game with you…im just not one of them! I retired from cyber bickering!

Bash on, or move on….either way, im done!

John, You are the Brock Lesnar of MMAMania, every good website needs a good heel lol

by Dave on Jul 16, 2009 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions

John are you saying that you never happen to cross something interesting while searching through the internets? I posted a ridiculous prediction you made, big deal. Do I care if people read or remember what I say? Is that your claim to fame? Because you are 110 pounds and write about MMA? Am I suppose to be jealous of you that you have nothing better going on in your life besides this? JOHN you post your crap opinions on a website, don’t go getting ahead of yourself and thinking that makes you something.

by jay on Jul 16, 2009 10:28 AM EDT up reply actions

I only posted it because I thought it was funny that you didn’t get a single thing right. I still think you are normally an ok guy. The post wasn’t to make fun of you or anything. Just wanted you to see it in case you had forgotten who you were taking. I know with 800 posts you make a day, you probably forget some of the stuff you say. Sorry to offend.

by jay on Jul 16, 2009 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Bad gameplan or not john surely that “GRANITE CHIN” you told us he had should have seen him through??? After all he did survive the standup game of MMA legend Mark Epstein who “hits as hard as anyone”!

by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions

Nice attak, haha, the one thing I remember more than any were the Epstein comments

by Dave on Jul 16, 2009 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions

I know, like Epstein’s some sort of name to be feared??? John built him up as a cross between Cro Cop, Tank Abbott and Machida, when in reality he’s a bum from cage rage who makes Kimbo look like Anderson Silva!

by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 10:50 AM EDT up reply actions

With the video of both Epstien fights freely available on youtube Ive never put much faith in the “Epstien” argument

I still think Bisping has a great chin though and to describe it as weak or made of glass is to say Hendo’s punch wasn’t particularly powerfull…It was and we all sseen it..IMO one of the best KO’s Ive ever seen period and Im a Bisping fan.

I do agree with john though in that Bisping will be back and so does Randy Couture in this interview with with The Sun today -

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/ufc/2537342/Randy-Couture-tips-Michael-Bisping-to-bounce-back-from-his-UFC-100-loss-to-Dan-Henderson.html

I allways think that randy talks alot of sense its one of the reasons I believe he will make a great coach when he is finished in the Octagon

by Confused on Jul 16, 2009 10:55 AM EDT up reply actions

Wow how pointless, bringing up someones posts on Bisping-Hendo in a K1 thread, really Jay you must have too much time on your hands if you’re going to copy and paste one of John’s predictions, it comes off as really petty and childish.

I’m worried about Kid’s future at the moment, since his long lay off he was beaten by a one dimensional wrestler in his second pro fight then KO’d in a minute in K1. Whilst his K1 record wasn’t that good, it’s still troubling to see an MMA legend get KO’d like that and since his return Kid hasn’t looked the same fighter and KO’s like that won’t help his chin. Hopefully Kid can get back on track soon, a fight with Urijah would still be awesome.

Well Rob there’s a lot of people that ain’t buying it. My father-in-law got up and went to bed and said that this UFC stuff is like the WWE. My wife said she doesn’t care to watch him anymore. He’s an embarrassment. I was a fight too for many years and that doesn’t mean you have to act like a two year old. No shit you didn’t like school Brock.

yes, it’s a business, but that’s not all it is. It’s also a sport. One built on honor. That’s why I watch. I was ready to post about how I was disappointed with Dana. I was going to say that it is now obvious to me that he doesn’t care about the sport, he only cares about money. But at least he sat the giant infant down and had a little talk. I would never sacrifice the sport’s dignity for money.

And being "himself" sucks. You don’t have to be a GSP, but you should have common decency. This is very basic. You don’t beat a guy to a bloody pulp then get in his face with more disrespect. It’s juvenile and it will lose sophisitcated fans.

I mean, I know the masses are dumb. You see it with political votes. You see it with movies. The most critically acclaimed movies don’t usually make the most profit. Movies made for the dumb masses make the most money. So maybe this shit sells to an ever-increasing society of dipshits, but if the UFC wants people with an IQ above 100 to watch, they need to nip it in the bud. You’ll still get the dumbshits tuning in, but you might save the intelligent crowd as well.

And JohnG,

I read an earlier post where you defended Brock. I can’t take you seriously anymore. You pick based on who you like and when you don’t like someone you will tolerate anything from the person who beats him. Brock could have raped the crowd and you wouldn’t have cared. I thought you trained MMA. You must be BSing b/c when I fought it brought us all together with a sense of honor and respect for the sport. Plus you always make wrong picks. You’re a huge fan, but I don’t think you really get it. Also, learn your homonyms. Typos and grammatical errors are one thing, but using "know" instead of "no" or "your" instead "you’re" and things of that nature repeatedly wrong doesn’t bode well for an aspiring journalist.

I may actually have to stop watching Brock’s fights. I hate bullies. It leaves me angry for 24 hours or more. I actually had a dream that I beat Brock with a 1/2 in gas pipe (I’m doing some gas line work on my house). I just don’t get how people can say fuck "honor and respect." What would WWII vet’s say to that? And it’s not that impressive to beat up someone you outweigh by 60lbs come fight night. Okay, I have to end my rant, but I could type a thousand reasons I hate this guy.

by John gay on Jul 16, 2009 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions

nO gay john, every tolerant of brock post that I wrote always starts with, IN NO WAY AM I DEFENDING HIM, or WHAT HE DID WAS CLEARLY WRONG!

I dont really get why everyone thinks that I am such a big fan of Brock…Im really not, I just hate Frank Mir, thus like all his opponents when booked to smash Mir!

Props to my boy Attackdog for letting me have it in a creative way. lol, I never complain when someone is letting me hAVE IT in a creative and funny way. GOod stuff, you made my high ass crack the fock up..

say what you want about Epstein, but he hits about has hard as a man can hit…but on the other hand he sucks. I still think Bipsing has a Granite Jaw, just so happens that punch Hendo landed would have Ko’ed a BEAR! What Im interested in is if Bisping’s chin will be as sturdy in the future or if it will be more suseptible to being kO’ed like guys who got KO real bad recently, example wanderlei.

Jay: I refuse to read your petty rant telling me why you dont like me, but all I know, is NEVER in my YEARS OF BLOGGING ON THIS SITE HAVE I went out of my way to scroll through previous threads to cut n paste something another man that I have never met wrote. Thats all Im saying. Do you buddy! We will agree to disagree!

by John G on Jul 16, 2009 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions

John, you should read what others say instead of drawing your own conclusions. I never said I had any feelings toward you, good or bad. I accidentally found your post while searching the net for what War Machine said about MJ. Must be really boring in Rome to have all this time on Mania. I’m only at work so I have an excuse.

by jay on Jul 16, 2009 12:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Glad i made you chuckle john, I’d been storing that up for days, just waiting for the right time to unleash.

by attakdog on Jul 16, 2009 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

picked Brock only because he liked him? noway dude, because he knew Mir had no shot at winning and Mir had no shot at winnin the first time they fought either, Maz saved him there big time!.. Mir is still the same guy that lost to Brandon Vera!

by RoB on Jul 16, 2009 7:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes he did. Got a little sloppy in that exchange and got knocked the fock out.

Totally off topic: I saw Chuck Liddell today in the Harrahs’ casino and hotel in South Shore Lake Tahoe today. I was walking off the elevator when he was walking on and my girl and I totally froze and didn’t say anything. He smiled at us and asked how we were and all I could say was “good you?” then proceed to walk away. Wow I feel like a nerd lol. I really wish I could do it all over again. Sorry maniacs… I had to vent

He was prolly there partying. The dude is a party animal.

by rockwell on Jul 16, 2009 2:38 AM EDT up reply actions

Yea Im sure he was partying, but the reason he was there is for the celeb golf tournament. I was just pointing out that out of all the celebrities I saw, the Iceman is the one who got me to freeze up. I’m a die hard fan of the sport, and have never been a huge fan of his although I do have an immense amount of respect for him. But I guess that just goes to show how much I’ve fallen in love with the sport… he truly left my star struck.

Kid is a joke big time!

by CaptainLazy on Jul 16, 2009 1:38 AM EDT reply actions

Kid Y. basically launced 4 consecutive big right hooks and then got timed with a right under hook and left hook. He got carried away and paid the price for it.

by DAVE A on Jul 16, 2009 2:10 AM EDT reply actions

Hope Kid comes back strong. Two tough losses.

by rockwell on Jul 16, 2009 2:39 AM EDT reply actions

I think any fighter who takes time away from a ring or cage gets a little anxious to get back into groove. Kid was way to over aggressive in the exchange and left himself open entirely to that straight punch hook KO. We have seen it time after time. Guys who have been in the game for years with 5-15 fight win streaks eventually have to go down sometime. Although, Kid’s career is not over we have yet to see how he will come back from this devastating KO.
I still want to see Faber vs Yamamoto. Even though they both suffered losses. They are still the top 5 featherweights.
In correlation to Liddell vs Wandy. When they were both #1.Everyobdy wanted to see Pride vs UFC. Champ vs Champ. When Pride shut down we got to see that fight even though they both just suffered KO defeats It was still one hell of a fight.
