Josh Neer puts legal troubles behind him to focus on Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 101

... according to a statement released today to MMAmania.com by Mickey Dubberly of KO Dynasty, Neer's manager:
"We are very pleased with the decision the judge made on Josh’s hearing, and we can now finally put this matter behind us and move on. In no way will the Judge’s decision keep Josh from fighting in UFC 101. Josh has been training very hard for this fight, and is looking forward to putting on a great fight for the UFC and the fans. Josh would like to thank the UFC, family, friends, fans, sponsors and his training partners for supporting him through this incident."
"The Dentist" plead guilty to OWI and Eluding or Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle last month in Polk County, Iowa, where he was sentenced to two years imprisonment on the first count and 5 years imprisonment on the second count. Neer was given a suspended sentence and will avoid jail time if he successfully completes the terms of his probation. He will also be permitted to compete in the UFC, effectively green-lighting his lightweight scrap with Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 101 on August 8. For the details surrounding Neer's arrest click here.

DUI’s suck so bad… I just go ahead and drive drunk all the time now; cause lets face it, what are the odds they pull me over AGAIN??

LOL. This fight’s going to be sick. Neer and Anderson are my main card locks for 101.

Yeah, I think Neer takes this one for sure. Not so sure about Anderson though. If I had to bet, I’d say Silva wins by TKO, but you never know w/ Forrest.

Forest can’t bust a grape! He won’t last fifteen minutes with Anderson. Sooner or later Forest will try to brawl, because that’s what he does. Then he’s going to eat a couple heat-seekers and call it a night.

LOL! You’re probably right. Anderson just hasn’t impressed lately, so I’m hesitant to be sure about it.

yea and no way in HELL forrest could last 15 minutes with shogun…oh wait…he didnt…he submitted him

A two-legged Shogun would get badly lit up by Anderson. A one-legged one with no cardio is barely even worth mentioning.
by Jeremyjackson on Jul 15, 2009 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
unless Anderson shows up with no acl in his knee, and no cardio…Forrest is in trouble!

I’m on a serious limb but I’m going with Forest just to be different…

I think that fight is a nightmare for Forrest. He doesn’t have the power to clip A. Silva and KO him, he doesn’t have the technical striking ability to out point Silva. Wrestling isn’t bad, but definatley not what he’s known for. Lets face it; Forrest is being thrown to the wolves again, not that he hasn’t come out on top before. The man has the devils luck; it’s all too possible that Anderson comes in jacked up or, gimped from some injury and gets beat.

Fuck Mac, why you always got to be different. Conform!
Anderson hasn’t had anyone come at him for a while, which we all know is what he wants. Forrest will, sooner or later. Forrest will have a gameplan but it won’t work.

I’m just thinking of us…Silva needs to be pushed and pushed hard so he doesn’t get bored…even if it goes the distance I’ll be happy…it will be bad for us as silva fans if Forest gets KOed in the 1st rnd…on a side note JJ and OD…how do you guys think Machida would fare against Brock?
by McArthur on Jul 15, 2009 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know what OD thinks … but OD hasn’t been completely won over by Machida yet. Once Shogun and Rampage are victims he’ll jump on the wagon. ;-)
I think Machida is way too small for Brock. Brock could absorb a punch or two to get close – and sooner or later he’d pin him against the cage, where Lyoto would be completely fucked. Machida might make Brock look silly for a while but the size difference is too much, even for a guy as evasive as Machida.
by Jeremyjackson on Jul 15, 2009 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He would suffer defeat, worse than someone that can actually get within 30-40 lbs of Brock; then he’d suffer through the typical Douche Brockery at the end of the fight. And no I got no probs with Brock, I just like the term “Douche Brockery”.

Neer dodged a bullet here. I just recently watched the Neer/Nate fight and I actually understood the split decision. Neer is a great, all around fighter, but definitely what I would label as a gatekeeper. There’s no way he’d be able to hang with Diego, Bj, or Kenny. A fight vs Diego would be pretty good though, IMO. I don’t think Pellegrino is ever going to be a top 10 UFC LW. He’s a good fighter, but a good B level fighter.
I’m going for Forrest too Mac, just because I was a big Franklin fan with Anderson lit him up into 185lb irrelevance. I’ve rooted against him every time, and this will be no different, seeing as to I like Griffin way more than Andy. I give Silva his props as the world’s best fighter, with sick Muay Thai and BJJ, but I’m just not a fan. Odds are he will win, so my prediction would be Silva by TKO.

I tend to agree JJ…however I think Machida would last longer than most UFC HW’s at this point sans Carwin
"Douche Brockery"…nice!!!!!!!

Synyster…how’s it goin’ man…haven’t crossed paths in a while. Agreed about Neer…a punchers chance at best against BJ, Diego,Kenny

Eh, got some weird things happening to me right now. Not sure whats the explanation (see my Facebook status).
On Neer though, it was funny: At the UFN with him vs Danzig, the crowd would cheer for Neer the whole time, then when he didn’t touch gloves at the start of the 2nd- they boo’ed. By then finish of the fight, they were cheering again. Just my first-hand experience of a fickle crowd. I laughed. Neer is one dude I will always make sure I watch.

I like Kurt in this fight. He has a great skill set, but has had some poor luck in the octagon occasionally which has derailed him from becomming a title contender. His only losses at LW in the UFC have been to Nate Diaz, who he was dominating, and to Joe Stevenson, whom he fought to a close decision with a broken hand in the 1st round. Since the Diaz loss Kurt has beaten the crap out of Thiago Tavarez and submitted Emmerson. He has outstanding hands and has been working with Kenny Florian and Kevin Kurns so conditioning shouldn’t be a factor like it had been in the past for Kurt. He has great BJJ and even though he got caught by Diaz, I don’t see Neer tapping him. I look for Kurt to do damage on the feet and take Neer down and bust him up there. Kurt is great at passing the guard and inflicting punishment. I think Pelligrino has this one.

Neer is a well rounded fighter but his best attribute is his overall toughness. In that sense he reminds me of heath herring!

Told you all that Kevin would bring this up again ten more times. 9 left bubby. I think I’ll take the over. lol A bit of trivia for you maniacs. You know that red button (if you have directv) on the remote? It gives you stats on all the major sports and stuff. Well, today and 2 days ago are the only days out of the year that when you press it no scores show up. When my friend told me that yesteday it sounded pretty cool, but now that I just typed it, i’m like big deal, but whatever.

Kevin: Im leaving Rome today, to come back to philly.
My roommate secured a new apartment for me. I landed an amazing apartment right in center city rittenhouse square (pretty prestigious area). I move in on august 1st (celebrating with a house warming party n the Fedor fight)
If you still need a place to say for UFC 101 in Philly, you can count on me, buddy! GUARANTEED!

I am glad Neer is gonna fight, but lets be honest that sentence won’t be suspended for long.
by Jake on Jul 15, 2009 6:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Hit a car (cop car) and start a high speed chase that sounds like something on one of those “deadliest chase” TV shows AND your sentence gets suspended.
wow….is that how it works in the states or is it just the guys who can afford a good lawyer that get that treatment?
Did he at least get a massive bill for damage and court costs?
