UFC 100 PPV buys: Dana White will flip out if it does 1.5 million

Props: Versus.com
Quoteworthy:
"If we do 1.5 million pay-per-view buys, I will do a backflip off the Mandalay Bay, and I'll live. Believe me (laughs). ... For us to do a million pay-per-view buys or anywhere near it, it's amazing."
UFC President talks about the high expectations for UFC 100 on pay-per-view after the final pre-fight press conference earlier today. If the promotion's centennial event even sniffs the 1.5 million mark it will clearly outperform the record-setting UFC 92: "The Ultimate 2008," which took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Dec. 27. Earlier this year White revealed that UFC 92 "crushed" UFC 91: "Couture vs. Lesnar" with an estimated 1.2 million buys. UFC 66 currently holds second place with an estimated 1,050,000 PPV buys. Of course, it’s always hard to nail down an exact figure because the information is never made public; however, with all the mainstream media coverage and the historic nature of the show, White may want to invest some of his insane UFC 100 profits into a super duty safety net. Are you buying it?

I agree. 101 is more of a stacked card. kevjack115@yahoo.com
I got 3 spots left in the suite. The original 12 tickets are gone, and guys received them today, but I can order more. whoever is interested, let me know!

101 has two great main events. After that it is most definitely NOT stacked.

no, UFC 101 is def not more stacked than this one, it looked like it was gonna be a couple of months ago..

Justin.tv tells me there won’t be 1.5 million PPV buys for this one.

thats pretty lame if your going to be watching UFC 100 on the computer…

I agree. I think there will be a lot of buys for this. A lot of people that I know that usually watch the fights are staying home to watch the fights rather than going the bar route this time because most people are getting sick of the younger crowd that can’t handle their drinks, think they know everything, and are willing to fight because they disagree on who will win a fight. This is definately one PPV I will not have some retard ruin my time on.

For real! Have some respect and at least buy this historic event. :)

You’ll have no feed at all once Hendo/Bisping is announced. You’ll for sure not be able to catch Alves/GSP or Mir/Lesnar. Find a good bar at least or good luck. These next two event are ones you’ll want to record and keep for a while. Definitely re-watchable.

100% agreement, DSmith. You can’t be watching epic shit all hunched over your monitor, squinting at the crappy resolution.
by Jeremyjackson on Jul 9, 2009 10:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
This event’s hardly historic. 2 years from now, look back and see where this fits in. It’s a good card, but not a great or epic one by any means.

The FTA community is pretty much down at the moment (hacked satellite). I figure PPV buys will be higher due to that.

Ummm, new LCD TVs DO have VGA inputs.
You can watch streaming video piped to your 40-50" LCD TV. If I can’t find a good stream I’m going to fly to Vegas and kick Dana White in the nads.

I’m so pumped but get so sick of all the talk leading up to it! For the next month we’ll have 200+ comments in every BJ thread! I’ve done 16 hours OT this week already and the week is still flying by…I can’t get 100 out of my head!

Only 48h bud and it’s showtime!Sucks, you got to do OT at your return at work.I’m guessing it was your choice to do it!

No way this card does 1 millions PPVs, let alone 1.5. On the face of it, this card is good but not great – hell, even UFC 84 was as good.
by jayshogun on Jul 9, 2009 7:27 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I was thinking of this the other day, and had a whole reason written up, but skipped it. The fight that could break all ppv records would have to be Fedor/Tito. thats why tito is already mentioning it. With the mystique amd way of hyping Fedor (" best ever") and the fact that Tito can not only hype the hell out of any fight, but is the closest thing to a house hold name in mma both factor in on this! People that love him would buy to watch, people that hate him would pay to watch him get beat! I got a kick out of you guys making fun of tito last week, he’s a master at hyping a fight and making people interested in him!
by kevin on Jul 9, 2009 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yep…Tito/Fedor breaks all records…and makes Dana shit himself.
by introvert on Jul 9, 2009 11:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No way does a Fedor/Tito break all ppv records. 1st – no one gives a crap about Cheeto anymore, and 2nd – UFC’s largest fanbase are the casual fans. Casual fans are those who know the popular fighters (namely the UFC champions). The 20 people that are coming to my house to watch UFC 100 are casual fans. I can tell you probably 90% of them don’t even know who Fedor is. So, to say Fedor/Tito could break all records is a lil far-fetched…well a lot far-fetched.

iF FEDOR VS. BROCK took place in the UFC. It would be the highest grossing fight EVER!

It depends what you mean by ‘just as good’. Your opinion on what’s ‘good’ isn’t what goes into how the UFC predicts PPV sales.
Because any moron can tell you that LW title fights don’t sell shit … and there are two titles on the line for this card, one of them the HW title, which is historically the best seller (along with LHW title fights).
by Jeremyjackson on Jul 9, 2009 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
92 was a stacked card, but I think this one will beat its numbers.
Lesnar and GSP are huge draws. Bisping and Henderson probably drummed up a little interest in their fight with TUF. Factor in two belts on the line, the fact that it’s the 100th show, and a large helping of hype, and you’re left with the most successful PPV in MMA history.

Do you remember the UFC 100 thread this week where Jesse was telling us to join him at Johnny Utah’s,no cover and he would by drinks…imagine if someone as a joke, would have put his post on some NY forums, how bad things could be for Jesse’s “special night” with Matt Hamill! :)

Hey Alpha, you wont believe this, just seen Bizzzzbing in my hotel lobby here in vegas, WHAT AN @SSHOLE!!!
I was just walking through to the casino hadn’t even noticed him at the front desk, my mrs got all star struck and said to me “ooooh there’s Bizzzzbing”, not knowing my true hatred for the man, so I looked round and he blurted out “I’m busy I’m on the phone” in his high pitched squeal, to which I replied “I aint interested in seeing you anyway you pr!ck” and walked off.
Seriously, my luck, I’m in vegas and of all the fighters I could have seen, I have to come across f@cking Bizzzzbing!!!
Also if he’s staying anywhere near my hotel then Dana aint paying him sh!t, coz my hotel (the mardi gras) is f@ck all.
In a way I’m glad I did see him coz it s just reitorated what I knew all along, the guy is a C@NT!

When I went too my first UFC ( 71 ) , I saw Karo , Rashad , marquardt , jardine , H . Alexander , Buffer , Yamasaki , Lindland and D. White all in the casino the day before and day of the fight .. I saw Liddell kinda run thru the casino.
They all let me take pics with them and were all very cool.
Hopefully you get too meet some of the cooler fighters.
Id also suggest if you get a chance too grab a signed poster from all fighters.. THey are usually $100-200 apiece but they are super rare and look really really good Framed and up on the wall. I have one from all the events ive been too which is UFC 71 , 74 , 86 and UFN 18.

I’d say this card by itself pulls a million easy, maybe 1.2. Anything over that would have to be attributable to the ESPN exposure.
Lesnar via TKO, round 2
GSP via decision
Henderson via decision

I normally drive about 45 mins to a friends house to watch it because he’s got a nice set up, and all the guys that show up there are pretty knowledgable. His wife has got him pinned down this weekend. I will be ordering at my house, and i know at least three of the other guys that normally show up are ordering it on there own as well. so there’s four buys that are normally one, a drop in the bucket really, but I couldn’t help but think of the coincidence that its UFC 100, the buys are expected to be huge, and the normal get together i enjoy is very slightly increasing the buys.
by James S on Jul 9, 2009 7:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Maybe coz it’s so huge could effect the buys? I mean coz maybe more people will have ufc 100 partys. Anyway am just glad am getting it live in the uk!!! Thank you sky!!!

If he wins, I’ll take the money, and do an MMA class for one month with the winnings.

I dont see it coming close too 92 but im bias .. I think thats the best UFC ever , 10 fights with 8 tko/ko’s and 2 deciscions. Not too mention they showed almost every fight.
This one should be awesome also tho but I dont think its going too be as exciting.
by Dayzah on Jul 9, 2009 7:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Well, nobody can predict how many memorable fights or KOs there will be, but in terms of talent and huge fights, this is a fantastic card.
In terms of exciting action, the recent cards that I remember being amazing were 92, as you mentioned, and 95, the free one with about nine KOs and subs broadcast.

im kind of with you dayzah ive never been so jacked for rampage-wandy 3. when i read it was scheduled in the summer every fuckin day i was watching rampage or wandy fights to get pumped. when fight day came i stodd the whole time and seeing jackson finally get his revenge was historical. that fight was my favorite by far and that event was amazing. not to mention i scored every winner right except the nog-mir fight

I live in Memphis and went too high school with Rampage etc , I see him when hes in town and I know his sister really good we talk almost daily etc.
And im with you jared when he ko’d Wandy , I think when I screamed and jumped up it woke up the neighbors kids… I couldnt calm down for hours , not even sure I slept that night I was so happy for him.
I hated I couldnt be there , but I had just dropped 2-3k on UFC 86 too watch him fight Forrest and then 92 was right after Christmas… Either way , its prolly the most excited Ive ever been during a fight.. But like I said up top im bias.

by junjo on Jul 9, 2009 8:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Strikeforce card will be more exciting than this overblown, over-hyped card.
No possible way it can live up to the hype considering every time Dana or any fighter from this card farts it’s posted on this website.

What do you care? You’re never giving the UFC another red cent of your precious money, remember? So you’ll be watching Frasier reruns while we rip it up Saturday night. Just you and your hate, simmering alone in the dark together. Enjoy.

this event will clear 1.5 based on the fact that it is UFC 100 alone. forget the card (which is stacked to the gills; lets hope for some early stoppages).
