Preliminary fights offered to online viewers who purchase UFC 100 live stream

You would think that between DirecTV, cable, Inner Mongolia Television, Mexico's TDN and of course Sky TV, most of the UFC fan base would be covered for the July 11 broadcast of UFC 100. If you aren't, you can still catch all the caged combat by ordering the event via live stream from UFC.com on your computer.

And the folks over at Zuffa are willing to throw in all six preliminary fights if you do.

Not a bad deal, assuming you're still not operating on 56.6 modem and a monochrome monitor. For $44.99 you have the option of choosing between a 300k or 600k stream. Don't spend too much time trying to make your decision because this offer only lasts until 10pm ET on Friday night.

Order the live stream after that point and you'll be left in the dark like the rest of us.

The UFC 100 undercard includes:

Star-divide

205 lbs.: Stephan Bonnar (11-5) vs. Mark Coleman (15-9)
205 lbs.: Jon Jones (8-0) vs. Jake O’Brien (11-2)
170 lbs.: TJ Grant (14-2) vs Dong Hyun "Stun Gun" Kim (11-0-1)
155 lbs.: Mac Danzig (18-6-1) vs. Jim Miller (13-2)
185 lbs.: CB Dollaway (8-1) vs. Tom Lawlor (5-1)
155 lbs.: Matt Grice (9-2) vs. Shannon Gugerty (11-3)

Head over to UFC.com for more information. For all the UFC 100 coverage you can handle visit our archive here.

$100 to watch the whole thing at home? Will justin.tv have it streaming then?

by DSmith on Jul 9, 2009 11:27 AM EDT reply actions

I’ll hedge my bets that Lesnar/Mir will quick so the Jones fight will be broadcast. I don’t see anything there that would make that purchase worth it at all.

by DSmith on Jul 9, 2009 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions

Where you see $100??

by ViolentMike on Jul 9, 2009 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions

My bad- I thought it was an extra charge. Either buy the ppv and watch it tv or watch on the whole thing on the pc for the same price. It’s a good deal but I’m not willing to risk computer or stream issues for this one.

by DSmith on Jul 9, 2009 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Will we get this for free along with the rest of the card here in the UK if we log into on UFC.com?

by Ca$z on Jul 9, 2009 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions

Sorry Mike. $54.99 for the HD PPV plus $54.00 CAD to watch the undercards, presumably NOT in HD vis the internet. For my PPV buy I should get the whole card. I’ll take what I can get, but it still seems pretty stupid that I don’t get to watch the whole card. Instead, I get to watch the same pre-fight “I’m commin’ in here to win. Smash his face, submit him, whatever. I’ll win” bullshyt interviews.

by Freddy on Jul 9, 2009 12:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I second that. I havent missed a PPV in 8 yrs (ordered them all),HD when it became available. Atleast send me a T shirt.

by RoJ on Jul 9, 2009 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions

you go and watch justin tv and frantically scramble from channel to channel hoping its on, clicking a million links of spammers saying its on somewhere else cause they disabled the channel you were watching it on that had bad qual and sound anyway where you just had 30 seconds of a fight, I am buying this, I have no means of viewing it live as I am in Holland anyway, and now with the prelims this is double hotdiggedydamn worth the money now. Just hope the stream works, always dodgy, and I have to pull an allnighter. Ah well.

by Hank R. Chief on Jul 9, 2009 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Hey, ya think that since I’ll spend more than that for PPV I could get the Fuccing undercards!?!?! This actually pisses me off more than makes me happy to be able to watch them. I’d have to spend 100 bucks so I can watch the undercard fights!!

Is this pure insanity to anyone else?? Turns out, I’m pretty bitter about not getting to see the undercard.

by Freddy on Jul 9, 2009 11:28 AM EDT reply actions

Where does it say $100?

by mack3333 on Jul 9, 2009 11:31 AM EDT reply actions

I think the other two lads misunderstood, the prelims come as part of the package, not separate so it costs $45.

by David W-S on Jul 9, 2009 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions

What he’s saying is that if you want to watch at home on your tv you would need to buy the ppv (45 or 55) and then buy the online stream (45). That is where 100 comes from.

by the king adrock on Jul 9, 2009 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions

its 44.99 total. it said for 44.99 you have the option of streaming a 300 or 600 stream. that means if you pay 44.99 you have the option of streaming the event in 600k or 300k. nowhere does it say for an ADDITIONAL 44.99 you can purchase the undercard fights. reading comprehension boys.

by Andrew on Jul 9, 2009 11:35 AM EDT reply actions

Yep that’s it. If you order the event ONLINE you get the whole card including the undercard for $44.99.

by Ca$z on Jul 9, 2009 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions

So if I already have ordered it online weeks ago…I cancel it and reorder it from ufc.com instead?

by DSmith on Jul 9, 2009 11:57 AM EDT up reply actions

I can’t get that window to open all the way to click the ‘already ordered’ option.

by DSmith on Jul 9, 2009 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Off topic, but has anyone heard anything about Hardonk vs Barry at UFC 104?! I’m praying thats true! Big fan of these two! But I could see this being Hardonk’s last fight in the UFC, Barry will be too quick for him.

by nick-sub on Jul 9, 2009 11:35 AM EDT reply actions

You got some weird taste in fighters.

by jay on Jul 9, 2009 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Ha valid, what I should have said was I’m a fan in the sense that they’re generally pretty entertaining.
like, never really to be of any great relevance to their division, but still good value to watch.

by nick-sub on Jul 9, 2009 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I order every UFC at home on my TV for $45 and I don’t get the undercard fights. So I would have to order it on my computer to get the undercards and theres no way I am going to make people watch it on my computer instead of a big flatscreen. We should get the undercards for buying the PPV on TV!

by Irishmikey on Jul 9, 2009 11:39 AM EDT reply actions

agreed 100%

by Andrew on Jul 9, 2009 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions

IrishMikey, I’ve been saying for years now that the UFC should offer the undercard on PPV. It would have to be a separate PPV because it is a 3 hour time slot. I would have no problems at all spending $10 to see the prelims on PPV, and then $45 for the main card for a total of $55.

It is not like the UFC will be losing revenue because I have NEVER paid $2 per fight to watch all the prelims on ufc.com, in fact, I only paid the $2 for one fight, and as you navigate to it, IT TELLS YOU WHO AND HOW THEY WON – F’ING RETARDED!!!!!!! That was a while ago, so maybe they changed it now, not sure, haven’t been there to waste money. SOOO, the UFC would be gaining an extra $10 of revenue per month from me.

Not to get into all of the logistics, but the PPV provider/carriers take like 50% of the money. But, the UFC would not be spending all the much extra on production since all the equipment is there, and Goldy and Joe are there commentating.

This seems like a no-brainer for the UFC as long as the $10 fee would not mean that they are losing money. Even if they are only seeing 75 cents of that $10, when you multiply by possibly 500,000 you get almost enough money to sign Fedor for one fight!!!!!!!!!

by ViolentMike on Jul 9, 2009 12:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Violent, That senario sounds perfect. I would definitely pay 10 bucks for the extra fights. Who wouldn’t?

by jay on Jul 9, 2009 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Mike, how come Howard Stern has his own TV station and UFC can’t? HS has a channel much like PPV, but you pay monthly. Why doesn’t the UFC look into something along those lines? ANYONE? The could charge 50 bucks a month for re-runs and prelims. Than still charge 45 for the PPV’s and no one else would get any of that revenue am I correct?

by jay on Jul 9, 2009 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Not to mention that more fighters will get exposure.

by BOW on Jul 9, 2009 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

The undercards are usually pretty bad ass too. Some of the best brawls ever. Well worth the extra money.

by DSmith on Jul 9, 2009 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions

i would even pay a little more if they would show the whole card.

by roy on Jul 9, 2009 11:47 AM EDT up reply actions

The wording of the Advertisement says Free Access to unaired Prelims. This does not state you will view them live! Start time for the Ad is still 7:00 pm PT. Prelims start at 4:35 PT.

Promoting their new online PPV the UFC is offering what amounts to later access to the UFC On Demand fight vault, apparently. Nothing wrong with that, but this blog and Ad does little to clarify the assumption that a purchaser will gain “live” access to the viewing of the Prelim card fights!

by Rider on Jul 9, 2009 12:02 PM EDT reply actions

I agree 100% roy.

by ldcpanther on Jul 9, 2009 12:05 PM EDT reply actions

The point is that UFC will be saving on paying the PPV companies any bit of the action if they convince us/bribe us to watch them online at their site. So no, if you order them on PPV you do not get the benefit of the prelims as they are using this as bartering chips to make you sidestep the PPV offerings and go directly to UFC.com.

That being said, it’s a novel idea if you have a big screen tv with a VGA or DVI or HDMI input that can connect to your laptop. The tough part to digest is the live stream at 300 or 600 is completely untested, could completely buffer unexpectedly, is reliant on the reliability of your home networking and can’t reliably be taped on DVR.

All of those added benefits of the feature rich PPV package outweigh any undercard fights for me.

Hey, I was wondering if anybody knows of some websites where you can watch the prelims for free.

Cheers!!

by Dave O on Jul 9, 2009 12:20 PM EDT reply actions

I just cant fathom ever paying for watching anything other then when going to the cinema, over here we get all ufc events and other big shows like k1 for free live.

Sorry i had just had to throw it out there with all this talks of ppvs and ufc airing or not in different places, guess we are kind of spoiled here :)

by RoB on Jul 9, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Just means the prelims will be up online 30 minutes after the show instead of 2-3 hours. who cares.

by danburoojy on Jul 9, 2009 12:27 PM EDT reply actions

Guys is there any way for Netherlands/Europe to watch this event besides The internet?

by MMA040 on Jul 9, 2009 12:30 PM EDT reply actions

RoB’s house

by McArthur on Jul 9, 2009 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions

LoL!! bring some hot girls and i’m down..
my question to you MMA040 is, does the UFC not have a tv deal where you live? cause they have here in sweden, i watch every UFC PPV on free tv…

by RoB on Jul 9, 2009 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Wow I can’t believe the idiocy of some of our sports fans. REAd the damm article. Its 45 bucks all in. Hey that gets you the prelims. None of this 100 dollar stuff. Are you guys illiterate? And ya it sucks to watch em on a computer with 10 guys, so here’s an idea. You have a plasma or lcd tv? You have a laptop? Hey get an aux cord or whaaaaatever and plug it in! Bang ur comp feed on a big screen!? Wow! Technology hey? 45 bucks. Ur paying it anyways and they’ll thro in the prelims. Instead of bitchin thank Dana and the ufc for a job well done. Thanks Dana!

by Daniel worby on Jul 9, 2009 1:31 PM EDT reply actions

This is BS they need to start putting the undercard on Spike TV along with there UFC countdown show right before the fight. Have it run from 7-9/10pm. I mean the undercards now a days have great great fights and with every weight div getting more and more stacked i think this is needed. Shit we have had peeps like Jon Fitch be on undercards lol and Stefan Struve vs. Denis Stojnic was a beast of a fight at 99 and no one got to see it. =( That or more then 1 PPV every 30 days.

by Xsjado on Jul 9, 2009 2:03 PM EDT reply actions

Does anyone know about the quality of a 600K stream? Is it close to high def?

by derreckla on Jul 9, 2009 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

I think they should just start the fights on ppv at 7 that way we can get to c all the fights and for 50 dollars I dont think thats asking for to much

by denni on Jul 9, 2009 6:09 PM EDT reply actions

I think it would be better that way too. I was thinking if I do order it off of UFC.com just waiting till sunday or late saturday to watch whole event starting to end.
