I like Belcher a lot in this fight
.
off topic but been eating ay me:

Does anyone else have a problem with the UFC hall of fame? Baseball has a hall of fame, not MLB, basketball has a hall of fame not NBA etc. UFC is not a sport, it’s mma. So are you trying to tell me Fedor can’t be in this Hall?
Also, it bugs me Chuck is getting inducted this weekend! He hasn’t even officially retired (along with couture and coleman). There needs to be a waiting period and a voting system! What happens now? Dana wakes up, wipes his eyes and decides to put one of his best friends in a hall of fame named after a company, not a sport?
I want to induct John into the mmamania.com hall of fame…not the blogger hall of fame, just mmamania!

I got Yoshihiro ending this fight.

To you Kevin, no I don’t have a problem with the UFC having a hof. Why? because your comparissons dont relate to MMA. NBA, NFL, MLB don’t have competing franchises and don’t induct outside athletes into their hof. The UFC is and always has looked at itself as the center of MMA, the major leagues if you will. While all other orgs have been the minor leagues building fighters up to make it into the big leagues. Now do I agree with this view? No. Do I believe Fedor and other fighters deserve to be in the hof? yes. But like coming up with an agreed upon top 10, an agreed upon hof would be difficult to produce. hopefully in our life time we see some deserving fighters make it in the hof or a new one created for mma across all levels.

what? college coaches, announcers and color commentators as well as international players are in all 3 of those halls. Go check it out, it’s not just NBA, MLB and NHL players in their respective sports halls of fame!

My bad Kevin, I don’t really like to watch other sports so I didn’t know. I normally play the sport instead of watch it, MMA is the only one where I can do both. but anyway it still stands that it would be hard to come to an agreement on who would be inducted. The best thing to do would be to create an outside group who selects who deserves to be hall of famers. but again Dana would strongly fight against that. like I said Dana looks at the ufc as the major leagues.I personally think people like Wandy and Rua would have been inducted in the PRIDE hof but not in the ufc. its just how it is tho unfortunately. no arguement tho there are fighters who definetly deserve the recognition and have been shafted.

What gets me is that it ends up being Dana’s desision…Will Tito be inducted? No..Should he be? Yes…if for nothing else, 5 straight title defenses

Funny you should bring up the Hall. I was just thinking about it last night and every current member other than Royce Gracie has came from an amateur wrestling background. Severn, Randy, Shamrock, Coleman, and Chuck’s gonna be inducted, they all wrestled in high school and/or college and in Randy’s case the world championchips. Of course down the road as the field of inductees becomes more substantial the backgrounds of fighters will diversify, but I think the current status of the UFC Hall of Fame says a lot about amateur wrestling.

dude chuck definetly desurves to be in the hall right now….if anyone woiuldnt it would be mask …srry to say it im not hatin or anything but if u wanna complain about chuck being in it i jsut thought id put that out there, and he isnt exactly the first person inducted into the hall that wasnt done fighting yet ( coleman, coutoure, ken, probly dan severn lol)

Sadaharu Oh, who hit more than 800 home runs in the Japanese professional league, is not in the baseball HOF, nor is any other Japanese player. There are no stars of the Canadian Football League in the Football HOF. There are no players from the Greek pro basketball league in the basketball HOF. These are all low-level pro leagues filled with players who want to play with the big guys in the American leagues. Same goes for fighters. UFC is the only one that matters now. Besides, it’s just a lot easier to call it the MMA Hall of Fame instead of the UFC And To A Lesser Extent PRIDE Hall Of Fame.

my beef with the ufc hof is fighters like wandy who is one of the greats but has a loseing ufc record, and fighters/ coaches like pat militech, who was the first ww champ, and has produced champs in every weight class pretty much, yet he will never be in the hof.

Fight does not really interest me.

In regards to kevin, I somewhat agree with you in principle, but ask you this; do you know how many players that never played in the MLB that are in the HOF? – not including the Negro League? I’m talking Japanese league, etc. ZERO. (from their website – 202 former Major League players, 35 Negro leaguers, 26 executives or pioneers, 18 managers and eight umpires if anyone cares)

Bottom line is no one would have a problem if it WAS the MLB Hall of Fame because MLB has ALL the players in the HOF (minus the Negro League). UFC is the major organization with most of the elite fighters in MMA, and if a fighters priority isnt fighting in the most competitive organization in the world, so be it. But dont bitch if you dont get in the Hall.

Lets the haters come at me haha.

What is with all the Alan Belcher coverage? Does he train next door to the editor of this site? Maybe dated his daughter or something? Belcher and Bones get more coverage than GSP!

by jay on Jul 8, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Belcher gets coverage when he has a fight coming up like any other fighter and go back and count the threads if you think Bones and Belcher are getting more coverage…stupid question and comment :/

Anyhoo- Kev- It doesn’t bother me as much but agree with you. There should be an MMA HoF, not a UFC. I think there are enough organizations out there I don’t know why we can’t have US, Japanese and Brazilian representation determining the standards and nominees every few years.

by DSmith on Jul 8, 2009 1:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

DSmith the questions were obviously jokes. And when you get any coverage on Alan Belcher it is too much coverage. I’m sorry if that made you upset, I believe that an Alan story isn’t worth the paper it is printed on. And I really liked the sad face at the end of your comment, made me think you are 12, are u?

by jay on Jul 8, 2009 2:06 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

WB I was thinking the same thing but i didnt feel like looking it up. Good stats. And the Negroe Leauge is apart of MLB history and 1/2 those guys ended up playing in the MLB. For basketball, the only other players in their all of fame are the ABA players. But once again most (if not all) of those players played in the NBA

But good point Kevin…the sport is still in its early stages compared to other sports. So there is no time in telling ..Maybe the UFC HOF might change to MMA HOF 15 yrs down the road

by robbyc on Jul 8, 2009 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I second that nomination and also nominate myself for the most good looking MMAManiac alive

by McArthur on Jul 8, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey kevin,
There is some precedent for a league to have its own HOF. The Pro Football HOF in Canton only recognizes NFL players (and perhaps some AFL players), but it doesn’t recognize players in the Canadian Football League (CFL), which has its own hall.

I think the key is what you pointed out- that the UFC HOF is not representative of all of MMA. There are greats that made their careers outside the UFC entirely, or had their greatest success outside the UFC or ended their careers outside. (Ex: Like him or not, Tito Ortiz deserves to be in the UFC HOF for the role he played in bringing the UFC to the mainstream and making it marketable in the way we know today, and for the way he dominated the LHW division for a really long time, but he won’t get in because Dana will put Kalib Starnes in before Tito because of their feud).

I think most people recognize that any HOF that doesn’t include guys like Fedor isn’t an MMA HOF- it’s a HOF for a particular organization.

Nevermind, there it is.

by WB on Jul 8, 2009 1:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Other sports also allow coaches and commentators into their halls, will Goldie be in the HOF but not Fedor? If you don’t allow all the MMA guys in then your hall is sorta a sham. Maybe WAMMA would be better served doing something like this?

by jay on Jul 8, 2009 1:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah but Wamma isnt accepted by the UFC and inducting UFC members would probably be blocked by Dana and company. so again it would be kind of as meaningless as the WAMMA belts

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jul 8, 2009 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think Dana could block WAMMA from inducting his fighters into their hall. He might make it impossible for them to show up for any sort of ceremony, but he wouldn’t have shit to say about them inducting someone into a paper hall of fame.

by jay on Jul 8, 2009 2:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He makes his fighters sign an exclusivity clause or something like that I assume. not saying I’m right but just saying he’d for sure fight against it.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jul 8, 2009 2:05 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Akiyama by whatever he wants. Belcher thinks he can compete just because he beat Kang he can beat Belcher. Kang was throughly getting the better of him.
