UFC Quick Quote: Thiago Alves like to beat on people

"I like to beat (on people). Many people ask me when I will submit an adversary in UFC because I train with a bunch of Brazilian black belt fighters but my goal is another. I can even use my ground game to get a better position but I always prepare myself to throw hits. This is the reason I work so much. As I said, I will knock GSP out! I respect him and know he is a great champion but I’m ready and waiting for the time that the Octagon gate will be closed. I will put in practice what I have trained over ten months. Wait, I will take the belt."
Number one welterweight contender Thiago Alves tells Brasil Combate that he's prepared to make it a hat trick and join Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida as a UFC champion from the country of Brazil when he tangles with division kingpin Georges St. Pierre at UFC 100 on July 11. "The Pitbull" has never fought more than 15 minutes inside the Octagon in more than 10 career appearances. Will that change at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, on fight night or is this one destined to end early? Choose your sides…

Yeah it lets you see how big the guy really is. I would like a GSP picture right next to his to compare size because I think Alves is the bigger of the two. As long as he makes weight for this fight I’ll be picking Alves to win.

For those of you that remember, I have been saying that this kid was going to be UFC welterweight champion after I saw his WAR against Chris Lytle! HOw could I abandon him now?
MOthaFOCKING WAR ALVES!!!!!
I will say that if GSP wins this fight, I will be more impressed withhim then I have ever been in my life! THats how dangerous I think Alves is! REAL TALK!

Alves is a beast, seriously this guy is scary. His striking is the best in the WW division and his takedown defence is so good that even GSP may have trouble taking him down. Thiago’s also a huge WW, though once again his weight will be the question. The cut may also affect his cardio and we all know what a freak athlete GSP is. If this goes into the later rounds GSP will probabaly take a decision but I like Alves’ chances at getting a KO in the first two rounds.
If GSP wins this, I don’t see him losing again at WW, unless Shields ever comes to the UFC, because he’s already destroyed the top WWs in the promotion. Hopefully this fight will be competetive because GSP has just about run out of opponents, maybe only Fitch as their fight was exciting or the Swick/Kampmann winner but that’s about it.

this fight is going to be a sickkkk! can’t wait to see alves back his shit up. I like Gsp but I’m rooting for the underdog here.
Alves is the next brazilian champ!

If he does become champ it won’t be for long. As we all know when GSP makes a mistake he always ‘learn from my mistake. I will not make the same mistake two time’. GSP will smash Alves and I’ll be watching for moment when he gets broken.

Alves is a great fighter, but I just think GSP is on another level right now. He’s too good everywhere and I have a hard time finding ways for Alves to win.

Alves has great standup and takedown defense, however GSP’s wrestling is at another level, he’s going to take down Alves n wear him down by GnP.

He’ll catch a few bombs taking him down. I also think Alves ground game is much underrated. Look for GSP to have trouble keeping Alves on the ground.

yup, and the thing that people needs to realize is that Alves is such a good counter striker that he won’t just throw wild just to get taken down.. He’s got alot of experience now from fighting wrestlers and it’s his time!.. all he needs to do is to catch GSP with one shot

i have a feeling GSP is gonna lay on him the whole fight. this fight might not live up to the hype
by Jesse on Jul 7, 2009 7:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Shaduuppp! You’ve never seen GSP just lay on anybody.
by DSmith on Jul 7, 2009 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He layed and prayed on BJ Penn the first fight. That was all of his offense. Sitting in guard…

If by “lay on him” you actually mean “rain down elbows and fists that open cavernous gashes, break noses and close eyes with massive welts,” then I think I agree with you. I’ve never seen a GSP fight where he wasn’t a buzz saw of pain and suffering on the ground active from start to finish.
Alves has the power to knock people out cold, but he doesn’t have the steel in his spine to last five rounds against an onslaught. I think if he can’t win it early, he’s in for 25 minutes of face marring agony…

To date GSP has never faced anyone who is as strong and well rounded as Alves. Ricardo Liborio & the ATT Boyz are the real deal.

Um ALves has a good chin and gsp’s is questionable. GSP’s gameplan will be the same as it was in the over-hyped penn fight. GSP will close the distance nullify alves’s stand up and take it to the ground. Using GSP’s method of “wearing out” alves’s arms then maybe stand with him in latter rounds

Thiago will face off an awesome fighter but GSP will also have problems so for me GSP 55×45 Pitbull.
Thanks MMAMania.com for the support.
