UFC 100 is so over-hyped. I’m looking forward to the GSP/Alves fight, but overall I think it’s going to dissapoint.

The only way this thing could possibly live up to the hype is if Holly Madison and Sarah Palin got into an impromptu
Ultimate Surrender match reffed by David Letterman.

also take a look at guillard/tibau again cause guillard won the 1st and 2nd round clearly.. the way you would have scored the first two rounds to Tibau is giving him a shit ton of points for wrestling which was about two takedowns that guillard got up from right away without taking any damage at all..

Anyone who says Lesnar isnt just as cocky and arrogant as Frank is lieing to themselves (And that is me admitting that Frank is pretty damn cocky)

by Dave on Jul 7, 2009 10:47 PM EDT reply actions

Agreed, this show just proved it. Brock is so upset he just took himself out mentally.

by UFC Champ on Jul 8, 2009 12:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah Brock made himself look like an idiot on the countdown show, to say that you gave someone a submission is retarded. For one why would you ever give anyone a submission?? It’s an automatic loss everytime. Anyway he just comes off over confident and stupid!!! WAR MIR!!!

by Dragon on Jul 8, 2009 7:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Saying “I gave him that submission” isn’t retarded. It’s saying, “I know so much more than I did then. Back then, I made a rookie mistake. I’ll never make it that easy for my opponent ever again.”

by pancake head on Jul 8, 2009 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Mir should survive Lesnar’s early onslaught and as long as he doesn’t try to stand with him too long (he seems overconfident in his striking) he should find and opening for a submission sometime in the first couple rounds. This is the hardest fight to call of the three, because Lesnar could get a quick TKO stoppage if he hurts him on his feet. Brock’s smartest move would be to keep the fight on the feet and bang away at Mir until he drops him. I give Mir an edge of about 60-40.

GSP all day long in his feet. Too many tools for Alves to deal with. When all you’ve got is a puncher’s chance against one of the best in the world, that’s not much of a chance. I’d give Alves about a 10% chance of connecting with a bomb and stealing the W. I give GSP a much, much bigger chance of getting the fight to the ground and working him over, then subbing him. Also, GSP could conceivable beat him on the feet as well, should it stay there for any significant stretches.

Hendo should be able to take Bisping without doing anything other than being Hendo. Bisping’s only shot is a decision via staying elusive and mixing it up just enough to score points. I give Bisping a 20% chance of winning.

by revjames13 on Jul 7, 2009 10:50 PM EDT reply actions

Agree for the most part. I would give Alves a little more than 10% though. I think hes got prob more like 30%. I wouldnt mind to see that upset either. I like seeing champions fall. Its scary

by James Moore on Jul 7, 2009 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

wow, really rev? gotta say I don’t agree with any of that. I see Lesnar/Mir as the easiest pick of the 3 main events (Lesnar by dominant TKO in rd 1 or 2), followed by GSP over Alves (fairly easy UD thanks to his wrestling), then I think Bisping/Hendo will be the closest (I got Bisping by split decision).

by just some dong on Jul 7, 2009 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

just some dong, even tho I’m pulling for Mir, I still think its the hardest fight to call. I’m not sure what each other’s real game plan is. So many possibilities, stand up, sub, gnp…who really know in this one?

Actually I do,

- Tap tap.
- whose there?
- wood.
- wood who?
- would you tell Mir to give me my leg back?

Angry fighters make dumb mistakes.

by UFC Champ on Jul 8, 2009 12:44 AM EDT up reply actions

I think ppl are living in a dream world, Alves is a more dangerous fighter than GSp is and any of his previous opponents… I say this one’s 60/40 and Alves is gonna win it anyway!…
Brock is a lock, Mir’s win over Nog has gotten him way too much hype, it wasn’t that impressive considering Nog couldn’t move or punch!
Bisping vs Hendo is not an interesting fight to me at all i don’t think that fight has any business at all on UFC 100, but i will say that i think Bisping is gonna win..

by RoB on Jul 8, 2009 3:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Mir via sub
GSP via anyway he wants
Hendo via KO

by Dragon on Jul 8, 2009 7:20 AM EDT up reply actions

Man the grease hate is lame. Hey get over the fact Penn lost. And he is currently makin sure not to over train? Ha ha. War kenflo. Gsp is just plain gonna dominate. I’m sorry to ppl who think alves looks amazing, he may, but these guys look like whatever they wanna til they fight gsp. Ie: Franklins record is unreal and he runs thru his comp usually, until he meets spider. As for lesnar mir? I just really dislike lesnar so I hope mir can somehow pull it out using technical and smart strikes, forcing lesnar to frustrate and attempt a takedown. Then mir can sub from there. Now as for hendo is truly hope he wins even tho is was so anti u.s for tuf cuz I thought the brits were classier and more talented and deserving. Even if Dana does want us to believe Demarcus is some big thing. He isn’t. Some one talk about Jones you say? Ok! He is unreal and I’m definitely paying to see him and the coleman prelim too. But more important is bones. I just can’t wait to see him excite me again like almost no other fighters do. I expect a lot from him so don’t disappoint me buddy!

by Daniel worby on Jul 8, 2009 9:38 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree with pretty much everything you said, but I am not a hundred percent sold on jones yet. He has the potential I just wanna see him fight some top 10 lhw’s before I give him too much credit. He did look sick against bonner though, no doubt about that.

by Dragon on Jul 8, 2009 10:08 AM EDT up reply actions

“i’ve never been dropped or rocked in my whole career”
- actually bisping, you got rocked and dropped by the less than mediocre king of rock and rumble, elvis sinosic.

i hate mir and bisping for their cockiness, i hope they get shut up.

by rockwell on Jul 7, 2009 11:01 PM EDT reply actions

I also believe an all american wrestler hurt him early in rd 1(Hammil). A wrestler was outscoring the Muay Thai Man in stand up!!!I hope Bisping gets KO’d like Perdro Rizzo vs. Gilbert Yvel…MAybe that will drop him down a level or 2. I understand having to be confident, but arrogant is completely different. He is an ASS! Maybe he would get rocked if the UFC didn’t wipe his ass for him and fight real competition. In 205’s he fought crap. In 185 he has fought crap and now a title shot if he wins 1 fight against an a level fighter. That is nonsense. He should be fighting Marquardt, Franklin, Maia, Kang, Kampman, Hell even the one punch beat that is Drew Mcfredries. MArquardt would drag him through the mud and still look for another opponent afterwards…

by Da Minkey on Jul 8, 2009 2:37 AM EDT up reply actions

He is talking about punches, I thought that was pretty clear.

Sinosic is a 6’2" 205lb athelete and he caught Bisping with a full force knee to the forehead.

Not only did bisping stay conscious he went on to win the fight by TKO…easily.

That tells me all I need to know about his ability to take a hit.

Whats with all the bashing on aragance with fighters anyway, these guys are professional fighters if you dont believe you are or will be the best you will not get anywhere and are aswell giving up, smack talk is all part of the mental battle pre fight.

Personaly I love it, if there ever comes a time when fighters spend there time hugging complimenting each other and stroking kittens you can consider me out…lol

by mo on Jul 7, 2009 11:02 PM EDT reply actions

rev.. only a punchers chance? Do you watch the ufc? Havent you seen the size of alves along with his knees?? His take down defence is much improved, not to say it will stop gsp takedowns, but he certainly has more than a punchers chance and certainly more than 10% thats plain silly!!!!

by mo on Jul 7, 2009 11:05 PM EDT reply actions

i think when alves doesnt win a single round you will feel like a retard

no mr. MO ALVES has 0 chance to win the fight, if you werent such an idiot, and could analyze fights, you will realize that alves isnt going to win a single round. You confused, dummy

by dtoto on Jul 8, 2009 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Here is my expert opinion haha.

I beleive Mir is actually silly to attempt to shoot on LESNAR , i honestly dont beleive he will shoot on him and i dont think he would have success shooting on him, i think he will try and stand, then maybe attempt to pull guard from the clinch. I think if the fight stays standing he has a good chance of making it through. I think if it goes to the floor, lesnar has learned enough to stay in guard, half guard, defend sweeps and submissions and end up with a TKO, ref stoppage. LESNAR RD2 TKO REF STOPPAGE – GNP.

Bisping and Henderson, tough fight to call, Henderson seems hot and cold lately, and bar Rashad at LHW, this is by far Bispings biggest test. I think Bisping will do enough standing, stiff jab, to score good points, if he can defend the takedown, and scramble well I beleive he will win a close decision. However, and no one is going to agree…my pick is Bisping SPLIT DECISION or and you heard it hear first Bisping KO head kick, late RD3

GSP and ALVES – will be an awesome fight. I think GSP on his feet is very underated. I dont think ALVES muay thai is that far advanced that it will play a devestating role like some think. The question for this fight will be how will ALVES perform off his back, and my guess is that he will do well, but not much better than BJ did, I am thinking GSP, TKO ref stoppage RD4-5

by SiamMMA on Jul 8, 2009 12:37 AM EDT reply actions

I do watch the UFC, borderline obsessively. I know Alves is the biggest WW out there, but he’s not that much bigger than GSP, who is a huge WW, as well.

It doesn’t matter how big Alves is, he’s not going to muscle GSP around at all. He’s got great power, but I’m not convinced that he’s even better than GSP on his feet. And GSP’s got him beat ten ways to Sunday in every other aspect.

GSP is gonna be in better condition and will have his usual masterful game plan. GSP is probably the world’s most complete fighter and barring a shocking KO, I don’t see Alves doing much more than keeping it close. 10% is all I’m giving him. Everyone else in the division would be in the 5% and below category against him.

by revjames13 on Jul 8, 2009 1:12 AM EDT reply actions

When I say “puncher’s chance” I’m including a KO by any other means as well, including kicks, knees, elbow, etc.

I just think Alves is gonna need a 2 by 4 to put a dent in GSP’s armor.

by revjames13 on Jul 8, 2009 1:17 AM EDT reply actions

I think as long as Alves can stay in the pocket and trade that is all the 2×4 he is going to need. And yeah maybe GSP is not much smaller then him, and maybe strong then him but the fact is GSP has never fought anyone even close to Alves size. I think as long as Alves who is strong enough and does have a great sprawl can stay on his feet the first 3 rds, let the leg kick go, he has got a great chance. After that, once he gets into deep water, I believe and so does everyone else that GSP is going to be the one with the advantage. Serra got lucky but his success was in the pocket and not being afraid to be KO’d nothing to loose. If Alves gets in there the same way, don’t be suprised if GSP gets KO’d.

by Da Monkey on Jul 8, 2009 2:46 AM EDT up reply actions

I hate to tell you but GSP definitely has fought some guys close to Alves size. Word on the street is he handles the light heavys in the gym I think he will be fine.

by Kevin on Jul 8, 2009 8:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah he ONLY trains with guys that are much bigger than him other than his coach. Nate, Loiseau, Rashad, Jardine…

by neeko on Jul 8, 2009 9:10 AM EDT up reply actions

Alves’ leg kicks are going to be null and void, everytime he even thinks about throwing one gsp is gonna put him on his back.

by Dragon on Jul 8, 2009 8:36 AM EDT up reply actions

i agree with most of your comments rev, just think 10% a little too respectful towards GSP and i also think he is the most complete fighter at the moment. However he isnt a huge 170 hes a big 170, alves is a massive 170, but they say technique wins over power, im sure thats gony be the difference!! id say 20/25% im sure the odds will reflect that? havent seen them tho?

by mo on Jul 8, 2009 1:22 AM EDT reply actions

if matt sarra can tko gsp then alves is going to ko him 1st round

by plum crazy on Jul 8, 2009 1:43 AM EDT reply actions

by Dragon on Jul 8, 2009 8:38 AM EDT up reply actions

you are plain stupid, yeah thats like saying if fitch can destroy alves, gsp will. so what if gsp lost to serra, how did the rematch go? gsp is not the same fighter he evolves evry fight, and in this fight, he will be picking apart alves, and taking him down at will

by dtoto on Jul 8, 2009 9:21 AM EDT up reply actions

wow, chill out guys. He was just saying his opinion.

by tripleainto on Jul 8, 2009 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Lesnar is a big baby. After watching him on Countdown I wanted to puke. A meathead at its finest. I couldn’t agree with Frank more. He’s going to take Lesnar to school. Way too much technique for the ogre.
Mir 70/30.

GSP’s new name is no longer Georges, but Greasy. Hopefully he won’t cheat in this fight and skip the mid round Lubriderm sessions, and not hope to lay and pray for 5 rounds. Alves is bigger, stronger, and comes from an equal if not better camp than GSP. Alves will outmuscle him at all points and knock him out.
Alves 60/40.

Bisping is the loudest and most overrated fighters I have ever hear. Who has he beat? Sinosic, McCarthy, Day, and Leben? LMAO all of those guys are subpar. He lost to Hammill, IMO and Rashad beat him. Which Rashad isn’t that great either. A B-league fighter at best. Hendo is purely world class at all levels. He’s fought the best and has beaten the best. Hendo is going to MANHANDLE Bisping and TKO him.

Hendo 90/10.

Also I hope Mark Coleman sends Boner out of the UFC forever.

I’m over it..just calling it like it is and he is a cheat. Breathing technique my ass…he was to afraid to roll with BJ. That’s why his back and face are always broken out with acne because of all that grease coming out of his pores.

by xxBAxx816 on Jul 8, 2009 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

lol gsps camp is way better than alves, golvea dropped from LHW, and marquadt a MW smashed him, rashad would kill any of their LHWs as would jardine. How about HW you say, lets see alves camp match up against carwin. GSP problably trains with him, so imagine how weak alves will feel after going up against the likes of rashad, carwin, jardine. they all say the same thing GSP is stronger than most UFC LHWs, and he takes rashad down at will, no problems against alves, gsp is used to going agianst much bigger people canadian HW olympic wrestlers also. I FEEL ORRY FOR alves

Lesnar
Alves
Bisping

Since when does Mir think he is a striker?? He TKO’d Nog when he wasnt near 100% and now hes a striker?? Think its stupid to try stand with brock but hey when he gets caught with that massive right hand itll b a wake up call for “Mir the Striker” but ill win me a lot of money so :-)

by irishlilpete on Jul 8, 2009 5:20 AM EDT reply actions

I noticed that too on the show. He came right out and said his striking is better cuz he dropped Nog. I hope he keeps that overconfidence going into the fight and tries to stand with Lesnar. Mir’s gonna get taken out of the octagon on a stretcher!

by justagirl on Jul 8, 2009 10:07 AM EDT up reply actions

I was surprised they only showed about 5 minutes of the gsp/alves fight which IMO should be the main card and spent a whole half an hour on the lesnar/mir fight. I found it funny how rogan said alves will have a “significant advantage on there feet” was he smoking pot just before this? Gsp has much better foot work and is more athletic, and I think he can hang with alves on the feet, but gsp is going to mix this one up. The gsp/alves fight is the only one I really care about other than I want lesnar to beat the shit out of mir. I hope all the favorites win in this one, but ya just never know, expect the unexpected. War Gsp/lesnar/hendo/fitch!!!

by dtoto on Jul 8, 2009 9:29 AM EDT up reply actions

I ve trained with them both …and honestly Thiagos ground game is very good…He is a high brown belt level . He just chooses not to use it because of his preference to Knock everyone out. On the other hand GSP has a good ground game but is very weak off of his back. He is a top game fighter … which is why he trains wrestling so much. His ground and pound is good but his ground control is amazing!!!!
I say if you want to beat GSP KO him or put him on his back…and I am pretty sure American Top Team knows this …***wink***

by SALAMI on Jul 8, 2009 9:48 AM EDT up reply actions

I think I just pinpointed why I hate Mir. Not so much that he’s cocky, but because he’s a know-it-all smartass.

I loved it when Brock said Mazzagatti must’ve had dinner over at Mir’s house and sat in the hot tub together before their first fight! Couldn’t stop laughin!

by justagirl on Jul 8, 2009 9:30 AM EDT reply actions

How can any true MMA fan like Lesnar over Mir? Mir has been here longer and put in more time making this sport what it is today. How you can say that Mir’s character is shittier than Lesnar’s? Lesnar is a meatheat and I desperately want to shave his flat top right off of his head. The best thing I’ve ever seen was Kevin Sampson of the Kansas City Chiefs beating his ass during training camp whenver he “tried” to play with the Vikings.
