Nate Quarry vs Tim Credeur lined up for UFC Fight Night 19 on Sept. 16

Nate Quarry (11-3) and Tim Credeur (12-2) have been booked to battle it out in a middleweight match up at UFC Fight Night 19 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Sept. 16, 2009.

Quarry is coming off a first round destruction of Jason MacDonald at UFC 97: "Redemption" back in April, dropping several serious elbows on "The Athlete" until he was unable to continue. It marked just the fourth fight for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) alum after a nearly two-year break from competition to recover from a major back injury that required "spinal fusion" surgery to repair.

Quarry outlasted Kalib Starnes at UFC 83 to earn a bizarre decision in his return fight last year, stopped Pete Sell via come-from-behind third round knockout his next time out, and was then submitted by Brazilian jiu-jitsu stud Demian Maia in short order at UFC 91: "Couture vs. Lesnar" in November 2008.

He’ll look to once again string together back-to-back wins when he locks horns with TUF 7 veteran.

Credeur was victorious in his Octagon debut when he stopped castmate Cale Yarbrough via first round technical knockout at UFC Fight Night 14 back in July 2008. Since that time he has notched two more solid wins over Nate Loughran (technical knockout at UFC Fight Night 16: "Fight For The Troops" Dec. 2008) and Nick Catone (submission at UFC Fight Night 18 in April 2009).

"Crazy" appears to be steadily taking on better and better competition each time out. And that trend will continue when he steps inside the cage opposite Quarry on fight night.

UFC Fight Night 19 is expected to feature a lightweight rumble between Roger Huerta and Gray Maynard. It will serve as the lead-in for the upcoming tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), which features Kimbo Slice and a solid collection of 15 other heavyweight fighters competing in a tournament-style format to earn one "six-figure contract."

interesting fight, definately like both guys. quarry is a solid gatekeeping and should be a good measuring stick for where credeur is. I’m going with credeur by submission in this one.

Can’t be said better. Thinkin’ Credeur by TKO tho. If not then submission is coming after.

What a bad match-up. Nate shouldn’t be fighting such low level competition. Tim is Dead.

Totally agree. After laying that beating on JMac I thought they would have stepped up his competition.

Nate by TKO, cant decide 1st or 2nd round.

I like Nate in this one too. BTW his return fight was against Pete Sell because Kalib’s camp thought Nate was not worthy of fighting him. I guess they were right…

wow…big leap for Tim. I doubt he’ll make it out of the first.

by allamerican on Jul 7, 2009 9:20 AM EDT reply actions

cannot see tim winning this, for some reason i dont even think of tim being in the same weight class as nate, like if tim wins this and then 2 more title shot v silva — dont think so dana, little bit crazy, perhaps dana is on drugs

Quarry is a huge 185 pound fighter. I know for a fact that he walks around well over 200 pounds. Not a good match up for Tim Credeur. He is too small to effectivly ward off any strikes using BJJ against Nate. He can’t stand with him either. Quarry by TKO late in round one.

Heres the deal .. i train with credeur on a daily basis at his academy in scott, louisiana. Tim has been training more and more often with better top notched fighters. His training is a good and hard as it gets. Hes making his way to the top whether you like it or not. Tim is becoming one of the better fighters in the UFC. He has progressed by miles since his season on TUF 7 and im very glad Dana has given him the opportunity to fight with such a well rounded fighter.

Heres another point. Tim’s standing game has improved hugely. People are expecting him to get takin down and knocked out. Tim is a top notch bjj black belt (as he clearly proved in his last fight when he completely dominated nick catone on the ground_) but he also went lick for lick with this 7-0 fighter whos stand was quiet good. Tim is training like a maniac and he will be ready for this fight. Take my word for it.

I agree Tim is 3-0 in the UFC and I believe no one has made it past the second round with him. His skills have improved greatly and he is a very game competitor. I expect him to finish Nate, who seems like a very nice guy, by any means necessary before the end of the second round.

I am a Tim Credeur fan but think Quarry’s BJJ defense is too good. The only person that could sub him already did (Maia) and he walked through Jason Macdonald like he wasn’t there. I think it will be a great fight either way. It will be an upset if Quarry loses but don’t want to take anything away from Tim. He belongs in the UFC for sure win or lose. I expect Tim to be ready (as well as Nate) so I’m excited either way. Good luck to Tim and your camp Credeur Kid.
