I originally was picking Brock 100%, no doubt.

But I think that Mir has a strong attitude and he is fighting for convictions and beliefs. These are powerful motivations and I know he won’t quit.

With that said, Brock is still a beast and can knock anyone’s head off.

So with that said: I move from Brock as clear winner to toss up.

just a fun frank mir fact, it was a while ago but he lost 17-1 agenst big country at a grapplers quest tourny because of his cardio, fighting off a guy who is as big and strong as brock, is gonna wear him out quick.

Hm do you have a link to the video. I was under the impression he won the match but I can’t find the video anywhere to prove it.

by Cogito Ergo Sum on Jul 5, 2009 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

my jits coach was there (two time winner)and couldn’t tell us enough to bet the house on brock.

by Blazy J on Jul 5, 2009 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This is MMA. You never bet the house.

GSP vs Matt Serra (bet the house)

Forrest vs Rampage (bet the house)

Forrest vs Shogun (bet the house)

Thats why I love MMA, you truly do never know who will win. Except maybe in Anderson Silva fights.

Mir is like Optimus Prime and Brock is like Megatron.

You want Optimus to win but that damn Megatron is super scary and powerful, you know good and technique usually win but the power of the dark side is strong.

by Bennie Blanco on Jul 5, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bennie Blanco you have obviously have no idea what your talking about Optimus Prime was a shit kicker and Megantron could only win 3v1

by Ted Gilmore on Jul 5, 2009 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

well, in the last movie. Not in the first one.

You are overly tuned into the newest movie.

Why would you refer to the older movie, you or living in the past.

by Ted Gilmore on Jul 5, 2009 10:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Lets not start talking about the original animated series then! I think I remember Megatron always strolling around with Starscream and those other 2 figher jet guys at his side.

I bash Mir a lot around here, but I like the way he came off in this video. Props to Frank. There are a handful of fighters that I can not stand…its no secret that Mir is one of them, but even though I HATE certain fighters, I always give them credit where credit is due….So Props to mir for this interview, and I must admit that Physically, he looks better then I have ever seen him.

Im really looking forward to the weigh ins for this event. Weigh ins are a great tool for Gamblers.

Am I the only one sick of Forrest’s interviews? He never says anything of importance. Reporters stick a microphone in his face, and he just acts like a lame, stand up comedian. He is a top fighter, so fans like myself are curious to hear what he thinks about certain mma topics or maTCH ups…pROBLEM IS,that he NEVER TELLS YOU ANYTHING. Its really frustrates me.

I Love HUmor as much as anyone, and I appreciate funny and entertaining fighters. No, I dont find forrest funny….but thats oK because there are plenty of fans that do find him funny…but Is it so wrong to ask for a few actual real answers mixed in with his comedy? I find rampage to be really funny, but he actually gives us his honest oppinions on mma topics mixed in with humor. Is that really too much to ask. if I were an interviewer, Forrest would really piss me off!!!

Okay, I need to jump in here too. I’m usually right there with John ripping Mir for being an ass. However, he came of as a regular, down to earth guy in this interview. Props to Mir. We’ll forget about the 500,000 year comment.

Really hope Mir takes this one. Imo true mma fans should be routing for technique over size and strength. Brock’s got talent but hopefully frank can control him and take this one. If brock is more patient then i think it actually works more in franks favor as he can time things better, war MIR!!!

Who are you to tell people that “true” mma fans should pick Mir??? I really don’t like Brock, but I don’t think technique will work this time. Brock by KO.

haha, yeah, I’m a “true” football fan and so everyone should cheer for my team! But I do agree with the patient thing, that would work in his disadvantage if he is overly patient on the ground.

by Edgecrusher71 on Jul 5, 2009 2:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well I think what Bobby is saying is that people who appreciate mixed martial arts as a sport based on skill and technique may likely root for Mir because if he doesn’t win it will go to show that skill and technique don’t really matter if you’re just really fucking big. I personally think Brock does have some skills, i.e. awesome wrestling though I agree that in some respect it seems that having Brock as a champion could undermine the greater public’s perception of the sport. As in people may think “oh well if some big ass fake wrestler can jump in and get the championship after a couple of fights these guys aren’t really that skilled after all.” Then again you have Bobby Lashley who is no where near Brock’s level and is looking unimpressive against absolute cans but non MMA fans aren’t gonna know about all that. Anyway, WAR MIR!!!

by Captain Ernesto on Jul 5, 2009 9:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock Lesnar is a NJCAA and NCAA national champion wrestler YOU DIM-WITTED FUCKING MORONS!!! It has been proven countless times since UFC 1 that big strong guys are not going to win in the UFC by only being big and strong. Just because he made millions in WWE, which was really the only avenue available for him to make a living in athletics at the time, does not mean he is an unskilled muscled up goon. Brock has shown dramatic improvement in his stand-up and in-ring strategy every time out, and he will do it again Saturday when he beats Murr to a bloody pulp.

by PW on Jul 6, 2009 10:26 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Easy there tiger, no need to get your feathers all ruffled up. No one is questioning your boy’s wrestling pedigree, but if you think his freakish size and power are not the biggest factors in his success in MMA then you sir are the “dim-witted fucking moron.” Let’s look at this objectively. Brock has 4 MMA fights to his credit and his last NCAA wrestling match was like 9 or 10 years ago. I agree that he is improving with every fight but really, any newbie serious about being successful in MMA would show improvement and Brock does have a great work ethic. But if you took his short resume of experience in MMA along with his distant wrestling experience and applied that to a different guy that wasn’t an albino gorilla and who didn’t have lunchbox fists, a seasoned MMA vet like Mir who’s good of his back and is a more technical striker would likely have the upper hand over a guy who was a great wrestler. I’m not trying to take anything away from the big guy because he’s using his gifts and there is no ‘super heavyweight division’ (nor will there likely ever be due to lack of fighers, it would be Bob Sapp vs. Brock over and over again and we all know who’d win that one). All I’m trying to do is look at Brock’s skill set and if he wasn’t so damn big and powerful I don’t think he would be championship calibre at this juncture in his MMA career.

by Captain Ernesto on Jul 6, 2009 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Look how many other guys cut weight and come into fights weighing well above the actual limits of their weight class. GSP cuts, then comes in around 190 at fight time. When he fought Penn, BJ weighed about 168. The percent difference between GSP and BJ is actually larger than the percent difference between Lesnar and Mir will be. Now, I will grant that GSP is a much more skillful and technical fighter than Lesnar at this point (and likely at any point) but GSP dominated Penn because he was able to physically overwhelm Penn with a massive size and strength advantage. Guys like Sherk, Sanchez, Hughes and Silva do the same thing. The only difference is nobody says it’s the only way they can win.

agreed but do not blame Brock, what was he supposed to do, turn it down so all the haters could call him a p***sy? his only option was to take the fight and win and that is what he did.

by Edgecrusher71 on Jul 5, 2009 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, its not a joke, its about the money, its a business. Even Frank Mir understands that, I saw another interview with him some time back and he understand why it was given to Brock.

Whether we like it or not he brings in the viewing, just like Kimbo does, and I actually think Brock can fight and I admire him for that. Anyway get off his back, he did beat Randy Couture, something Gonzaga couldn’t do, or is Randy washed up all of a sudden!!!!

Funnily enough I am not that interested in Lesnar vs Mir, because I think it will end quickly either by Brock knockout or Mir tapout. What I am more interested in is Lesnar vs Carwin, now that is going to be a lesson in power and wrestling.

by Nuts on Jul 5, 2009 2:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Your name suits you well. Yes it was a joke that Brock got a title shot after winning and losing a fight. Who cares that Lesnar beat Couture, the man is over 40 years old and that was his first fight back after his hiatus. They should have just had Randy fight Nog like it was supposed to go down and given Brock and Mir other opponents to work their way up to a title shot. Instead they gave Randy Brock because they thought it’d be his best shot at winning. And they thought oh Nog vs Randy/Lesnar will get tons of views… blows up in their face and now its Lesnar vs Mir, the least climatic of any match up you could have gotten. How does it end? Idk by tapout or knockout? of course nobody else knew that but some how Nuts did! Thank you for your nuggets of wisdom on this one.

by Wes on Jul 5, 2009 7:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

would it still be a joke if he beats Mir? I mean it’s not like they gave him a shot and he got knocked out in the first round he knocked out Randy…

by Robert(1) on Jul 5, 2009 10:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock will win because Mir isn’t that good of a HW as ppl are making him out to be. But beating Mir doesn’t mean Brock is no.1, or 2 or even 3 HW in the world – he’ll have to defend his belt successfully another two times to be considered top 3 imo. I got Brock losing to whoever he fights after Mir – perhaps Carwin. As for Mir, I’ve got no doubt that a HEALTHY Nog, GG, Dos Santos, Carwin, Cain would beat him at this point in time. Not Kongo cos he would foolishly take it to thw ground and get his Parisian ass tapped.

Yeah, this guy thinks he is so much better than he is. One win over an ill, shot Nogueria and he thinks he is the Muhammad Ali of mma. NOT EVEN CLOSE! Lesnar by KO.

huh? Mir was already the Champ – NEVER LOST THE BELT, railroaded the competition, went through a lot personally, got his life back on track, and you say he’s not a great fighter?? AND you think Brock has proven he’s a good fighter in his 4 fights at 3 and 1????

by Jake on Jul 5, 2009 7:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Who gives a crap if Mir thinks Lesnar deserved a title shot or not. The fact is he obviously did. Cause he kicked the crap out of the champ to become the champ. Tim Sylvia couldn’t do it and he’s almost 7 ft. Gabe Gonzaga couldn’t do it and he’s 250+ lbs. Brock got the title shot and won. Go cry to someone else. Brock was a division I NCAA wrestling champ. A far better pedigree than half the guys in mma right now.
Look at all the current and past champs that have had a wrestling background. Most of them didn’t accomplish in wrestling or their area of martial arts compared to what Lesnar did, including Frank Mir. What did he accomplish before he started in mma. He was a freakin bouncer. Nuff said.

by Wes on Jul 5, 2009 7:46 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Great point wes. Brock has been competing and winning at the highest level of wrestling in US. Yes it;s only one phase of MMA but it’s argueably the biggest advantage out of any style. Combine with his freakish size, strength and speed he’s a danger to any HW in the world and capable of beating anyone. I like Mir and his cofidence but really would you expect him going into a fight and think he’s going to lose?

by Beaver on Jul 5, 2009 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

remember that great wrestler got tapped in less than 2 minutes. jiu jitsu has has far more champs than wrestling. The best fighter in the world is Fedor and he uses arm bars to win most fights.

by hatteras on Jul 5, 2009 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wrestling is not everything you still need to develop a decent defence against other styles. And if you can control were the fight takes place you will have better odds of winning. The first fight Brock had against Mir his knowlege was very low on how to defend or know were he was vulnerable. I garantee his defence against BJJ will be greatly improved from the last fight from his training combined with his strength, size and wrestling skills. Brock is known as being one of the hardest trainers in MMA any division and will be much more aware of Mirs MMA.

by Beaver on Jul 6, 2009 2:44 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

All these Brock hatteras will be looking foolish after 100 lol.

by Beaver on Jul 6, 2009 2:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Brock Lesnar is a moron who has no technique at all and rely heavily on his strength to win fight.

Frank Mir is a smart fighter who during his first encounter with Brock, was simply testing his chin and how Brock would react to those hits.

Sorry guys, but Frank Mir is going to win it again, Lesnar doesn’t deserve to be here, his win over a bum (Herring) and 45 years old Randy who actually dominate the fight, was simply a calculate move to make Brock look like a freakin beast.

Lesnar will never win agaisnt Mir, he simply doesn’t have the brain and enough gray matter to be patient, and think strategically, he just bulldoze his opponent by overpowering them. This is retarded, and you all know it.

by Mirnov on Jul 5, 2009 10:47 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Mirnov?? Lesnar has one of the best wrestling techniques in any mma weight class. Herring is better than 70% of the HW in the world, Randy then was better than 90% of the HW in the world? The fact that Brock beat them in his four fights shows how skilled he really is, yes his strength and size help and allowed him to move into the top ranks faster than any MMA fighter in history but we all know even big & strong men in mma that couldn’t do what he does. I don’t know how you figured he had no brains? His first fight he let the adrenaline take over and his fights after that he showed much greater control but I do believe he needs to find that happy medium were he doesn’t relax to much and were he doesn’t let the adranline take over against Rany I thought he was a little to relaxed but I’m sure that is one of the main areas his mma trainers are trying to improve.

by Puck Head on Jul 6, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

dude brock can wrestle so he has some skill. wrestling w/ crappy stand up vs jiu-jitsu w/crappy stand up = jiu jitsu winner.

wrestling lacks submissions all you can do is gnp. That is a recipe for submission against a skilled bjj guy like Mir.

Brock will try and stand. Mir will throw leg kicks, circle and counter punch till brock takes him down. i wanna see mir win by ground and pound in round 3 but he will choke him out.

by hatteras on Jul 5, 2009 11:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hatteras your saying a jiu jitsu guy beats a wrestler anyday? There more to it than JJ vs wrestling first off there is the fighters strength, speed & cardio that will can give their actual mma skills a increased advantage if their better than their opponents. With Brocks size & strength advantage it will harder for Mir to pull off his JJ moves and make it eisier for Brock’s ground grappling. There is no garauntee who is going to win but we can all give our opinion but even from the first fight against Mir brock had a clear advantage but was over aggressive and made a mistake that Mir capatalized on. Is Mir going to have to wait for another mistake, but if Brock doesn’t make such a big mistake? I can see how some believe with so little fights he’s bound to make another mistake but I believe because of Brocks training ethic combined with his superior size and strength( I would even say speed & cardio) he will be to much for Mir to handle. Mir and his fans better pray for another mistake.

by Puck Head on Jul 6, 2009 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’d like to see Mir perform well, i just can’t see him getting past Brock’s size, speed and wrestling ability. If Mir doesn’t find a way to make Lesnar tap in the first 2 rounds, there’s no way he’ll be able to survive having a load like Lesnar leaning on him after 10-15 minutes. Lesnar has had a long time to train on defending submissions. When you combine the advantage that the bigger man has, along with the advantage of an accomplished wrestler, this has the makings of a fairly easy win for Lesnar. Of course it’s MMA, but if i were betting this fight, i think the smart money is on Lesnar. Should be a great fight to watch.

One other thing i forgot to mention……and i pray that this doesn’t happen…….but when you combine Lesnar’s considerable size and strength advantage with his wrestling dominance, and fear of being tapped again, we have the potential to witness Lesnar morph into a heavyweight version of Huggybear Guida. What’s to stop him from doing that? We all know a superior wrestler can avoid submissions by maintaining top position and doing nothing. If this happens, it will NOT be a great fight to watch. Again, i think the chances of this are high enough to warrant a wager on Lesnar.

Brock made mir the punk curly haired bitch he is. ! Mir got lucky in the first fight but brock killed Mir in the rematch. When Brock was blasting Mir in the face against the fence I swear I haven’t been more happy this year thus far. Frank needs to go buy some new panties because he shat the ones he was wearing in the fight tonight. Good night Ms. Mir where ever you are! P.S. Franks face makes me want hamburgers tonoght!!!!!!!
