and why did they have the camera zoomed out on that chick in the studio…she looked kinda hot!
I’m sure there is a word for it but she must only look good from a distance.

Agreed, some people are way too critical, she’s hot as hell.

That’s exactly what I thought. It was a pleasant surprise, didn’t think her voice would sound like that.

Come on guys. It seems that a lot of people in this forums are dating supermodels. I wouldn’t push her off my bed. She does have a sexy voice and maybe not a gorgeous face but she does look good on this video. give her a break.

You mean to tell me that you aren’t dating a supermodel?

If a list is being made, then I say GSP by Ref stoppage in the 3rd! GSP’s gona ground and pound the sh*t out of his @ss!
by JV on Jul 2, 2009 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agree 100%. Not that he won’t be able to hold his own on the feet, just doubt that he could finish the fight there. No welterweight can stop GSP, he’s just to good. His strength, conditioning, takedowns, wrestling, submission skills… the list goes on and on. And it isn’t like his striking is subpar, far from it. Why mess with a sure thing.

cough Matt Serrra cough cough*
Nah, but I got GSP in this fight by 4th round GnP stoppage, possibly earlier if he cuts Alves.
The only bad part is that I want to bet on GSP because I don’t see him losing, but I also ALWAYS root against GSP!!! (except for when he fought Kos) Come fight night, I’ll probably be rooting against this bet.
by ViolentMike on Jul 2, 2009 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I meant that the sure thing would be the takedown, ground and pound, repeat until finished.

Mike, bet on GSP, root against him, either way you win!
by PW on Jul 2, 2009 3:26 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Thiago Alves FTW. Then there can be a superfight between A Silva and Thiago. probably wouldn’t have to be at a catchweight either since alves is so big. Thiago is monster big like fitch, but he actually has a stand up game.
by James S on Jul 2, 2009 3:52 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Thiago would get murdered. The only way to beat anderson (unless your name is lyoto machida) is to take him down and punish him, ala GSP. Not saying GSP would or will, just that that is how.
by Adam T. on Jul 2, 2009 6:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
wouldn’t be a supergight between silva and thiago. silva would kill thiago, thiagos strengths play right into silvas. GSP would stand a much better chance because of his well rounded skills and great wrestling.
by bullsh*t on Jul 2, 2009 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
no bullsh*t there partner. Exactly right. I actually think that GSP would give Anderson one unbelievable fight. Thiago would get brutalized.

GSP, GSP GSP
That goofy looking reporter is right if anybody can match GSP horsepower is Alves, The only one I can see with the balls to try to knock out GSP is alves. Alves is going to be 190 for sure possibly 195 come fight day is insane and that is good. He is going to need every advantage He can to dethrone GSP. That said I hope he can make weight and can keep the fight standing for at least 2 rounds which I doubt. GSP GSP GSP.
by dkortez on Jul 2, 2009 1:24 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You make it seem like Alves will have a big size advantage, but GSP has been fighting at 187 lbs for some time now and his camp (and himself) said he has put on size. Expect to see GSP at 190 ripped. If any size advantage it will be small, yet GSP’s well rounded skill advantage will be big. GSP deals with bigger guys than Alves ever day, so it is a moot piont. Alves is the one at a disadvantage because he is about 30 lbs shy of being able to deal with a great wrestler like GSP. GSP gets the better of 200+ lbs guys in training on a regular basis.
by Gord on Jul 3, 2009 12:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The thing reason they are making such a big deal about Alves’s size is that GSP has never fought anyone much bigger then him. Alves is coming in with a clear size advantage. Strength wise he maybe on equal or stronger level. If Alves stay aggressive in the pocket (a la Serra) he is going to be a nightmare for GSP. Alves has a great sprawl. Alves has a Great sprawl, equally as/or stronger, and a bigger fighter(and much bigger fighter then GSP is used to fighting) mean a long night for GSP; IMO anyway. I think as long as Alves stays true to his fight style we maybe seeing an upset.
by Da Monkey on Jul 3, 2009 8:47 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That was a weak ass panal. All the comments were quite dumb. Im really expecting this fight to be fairly easy for GSP. He is better on the ground, wrestling, take down defence, his cardio will be better then alves, he’s elusive and the most important thing is that he will have a distinct reach advantage. I have a feeling this fight will look similar to Penn vs Sherk where Alves just wont be able to get the distance with GSP. I think him cutting so much weight will play a factor in him going the later rounds and once he gets tired and loses that knock out punching power, Alves barely becomes a one trick pony. Expect a ferocious 2-3 minutes from alves, then frustration, then he will get dominated and beat in MMA, his cardio will fail him and he will be stopped late 3 or 4 round.
by jackel on Jul 2, 2009 1:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Agreed Jackel. Can’t wait to see Alves get dominated. Then the fight of the century between Ben Saunders and Thiago Alves (according to saunders before the swick fight) for the belt will be forgotten. Wait, it already is. What is it with some of the ATT guys.

I wouldn’t get too excited, Alves has gotta make the weight yet!
by attakdog on Jul 3, 2009 5:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree with this. Alves has a significant disadvantage in reach and that’s going to be his inevitable downfall because not only is GSP going to have (at least) 5 inches of reach, but St. Pierre is extremely good at controlling the distance between him and his opponent. St. Pierre has a killer jab that he will be making Thiago eat all night.
And those legs kicks Thiago is known for, GSP has a pention for countering them with a right hand or takedown or both.
I think Strength is going to be relatively even, even though Thiago looks bigger that doesn’t necessarily make him stronger.
He may have been able to get up with Hughes on top of his but GSP’s top control is on another planet.
I see this ending in the third round by TKO for GSP
by zachy on Jul 2, 2009 2:01 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly, where did they find those clowns. It sounded like they all thought Alves had the edge. Alves will be lucky to make it out of the 3rd round. Honestly I don’t think this fight will last long because GSP won’t play into Alves strength. If GSP can dominate BJJ black belts like Fitch and BJ on the ground, than Alves will be a fish out of water with GSP on top of him. GSP WILL be on top of him. Probably in the fist minute of the fight.
by Gord on Jul 3, 2009 12:31 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed, GSP by utter demolition. He is a far more rounded competitor and just has more ways he can win. Alves is just a kick boxer with TD defence. They went out with the ark.

4 guys that don’t know squat about fighting sitting around pretending they do.
by hatteras on Jul 2, 2009 1:47 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
OK Hatteras, Mr. expert. I boxed for 4 years, kickboxed for 2 and have a purple belt in brazilian jj. I happen to think Alves is the best striker in the ww division but it won’t be enough against GSP. He’s better in every other area of mma. Hes got so many more ways to win the fight. Alves is looking to stuff the takedown and hope to strike. GSP can win any way he wants. How ya like me?

gsp by superior wrestling and better cardio. i can’t picture gsp losing the belt anytime soon.

Still to this day GSP crushes everyone and ppl don’t give him the credit he deserves.. It amazes me. Not many ppl have had a road littered with so many top quality oponent’s yet EVERY fight he has ppl always tout his oponant as if he was the biggest baddest thing ever and that GSP is in trouble.
It’s sad.
by Likwid on Jul 2, 2009 4:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I guess these people forget that Fitch beat Alves by taking him down and smashing him on the ground (well techinically it was a up kick when Alves finally got back up) but GSP will take him down and beat him badly on the ground and never let Alves get up again. This will be a fairly easy takedown for GSP to set up and no one is beter on top laying the GNP then GSP.
by Reverand on Jul 2, 2009 4:36 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I wish i could say that this will end up being a fight for the ages, and i can understand that’s what folks are predicting. I believe that Alves is the toughest guy, and presents the biggest challenge that GSP has faced in his career. Having said that, i don’t think this fight will be nearly as close as many are predicting. Let’s suppose that Alves is a better striker than GSP. Hell, let’s pretend that Alves is 10 times a better striker than GSP…….It doesn’t matter. GSP’s wrestling, and overall athleticism is on another planet, and with that ability he can completely control the fight. Will this fight be a stand up war? Will it be on the ground? If you really want the answer, ask GSP because it’s 100% up to him. There isn’t a WW on the planet that can avoid his takedowns. Hell, i’d be impressed if you could show me a WW that can just avoid getting fully mounted by GSP. KOS and Fitch are two of the best wrestlers the UFC has to offer….GSP was getting the full mount on both of them at will.
I think Alves is a phenomenal talent and will be destroying dudes for many years to come, but there’s no way he has an answer to what’s coming on July 11th.
by kg on Jul 2, 2009 5:04 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think GSP is going to win too but I don’t think it’s going to be close. Alves has great defence against the take down combined with his dangerous legs it will be a much tougher task than BJ much tougher. We know GSP doesn’t plan to stand with him andthis will be a fight for control were the fight takes place but the difference will be GSPs endurance and he will eventualy take Alves down and keep him down. Rounds one and two could be anyones 3-5 if needed will be GSP’s.

This panel was filled with idiots IMO. The fat guy looking real serious saying alves will be 190-195….big f-ing deal, gsp is around 190 right now, there making waaaaay to big a deal of the little size difference. Trust me size is over rated, I see smaller guys out lifting big guys all the time. GSP is a better fighter period than any welter weight out there, and 90 % of the fighters he faced were around his weight 180-190, and he smashed, or embarred most of them, and the fight’s he did poorly in he came back and owned them. IMO gsp is becoming a monster at 170 and I think alves only real chance or any other welter weights of beating gsp is punchers chance.

John moody = clueless dork….uuuhh,,uuuurrr, 4 experts LMAO. “The last guy who had the stones to go after gsp was matt serra and he knocked him out”. What an idiotic statment, hello bj penn 1, jon fitch…..almost everyone gsp has fought. Serra happened to hit gsp perfectly something IMO he couldn’t do again. If anything alves is kind of a slow starter and I can’t remember a time when he jut came out swinging wildly. I’m not saying alves can’t win but I just think gsp is much better and smarter than alves last 3 victims. Lytle outstruck alves in the first round, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if gsp surprises most and beats alves standing and on the ground.

Fact is there is no clear sided winner otherwise we wouldn`t watch it and UFC would be like Affliction….doomed.
by Beaver on Jul 2, 2009 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I wish these boogers would take the time and actually watch all of gsp’s fights like I have, and almost all of alves fights in the UFC. I’m surprised at how dumb they came across, the interviewers was the only guy who seemed to have a brain.
by nathan on Jul 2, 2009 11:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I had a tough time with this one because I really like Alves’s style of just going after people and he is no slouch in the technique department and has the physical skills to not be out classed by GSP if the game were all about the physical. I think the difference is not in the physical and not in the dedication but in that GSP is the smarter fighter imo. That is not to say Alves is some kind of moron but rather GSP is on a different level when it comes to fight strategy and executing. That my friends will be the difference in this fight.
