Antoni Hardonk adds 'Crime Fighter' to his list of professional accolades

"In a similar situation in the future, it would probably be better just to give them the money and be done with that. Obviously, I had much better (fighting) skills, but is it worth the risk? They could have had a gun, other knives, who knows? But I'm stubborn. And I fight to earn my money and that's a hard way to make a living. And I'm not just going to give it away to guys like that. I believe if you can do something to help someone else, you should. We're all here and we should all try to help each other if we can. It's the right thing to do. I just did what I thought was right. Really young guys, and I think they were probably on drugs or something. It's too bad. But I didn't think it was right just to stand by and do nothing."
-- UFC heavyweight and ex-kickboxing instructor Antoni Hardonk talks crime and punishment with Yahoo Sports after putting a little Dutch fear into the hearts of some wannabe LA thugs. The 6'4" 245-pound Hardonk rebuked the would-be attackers when they demanded his wallet and then watched the goons try their luck against a hapless pedestrian. The former K-1 fighter sprung into action and clowned the hoodlums -- who decided to drop the wallet and run rather than stick around and get Zulu'd.

Just based on this story alone, I will be rooting for him in every fight.

Nice job, Jesse.

Fair play to the guy! Seriously what kind of lunatic mugger would pick on a 6’4" guy anyway??? That’s not my definition of a soft touch.

Totally agree, a great guy and a worthy octoman. A good amasador for mma.

One good leg kick from him, and they wouldn’t be running anywhere for about 6 months.

Well done, its not everyday that you get faced with situations like that, its not always the best idea to fight back, but if you can and the situation is right then crack some skulls!
Hes right too, we all live together, whether we like it or not, so we should always help eachother out when ever we can.

Jimmy, i am not trying to pick on you, rather help you out. The word is “HAVE” instead of “OF”. He should have leg kicked them… Or I think you meant “should’ve” either way, I hope it helps you out in the future. I can’t stand this New Speak Like It’s A Text Message Generation. Yeah it’s convenient to type or text like that. But all it does is contribute to the ever-growing stupidity of our generation. Even though I disagree with Kevin the majority of the time, I can appreciate that this guy takes the time to type out his well thought out opinion. Please don’t be one of the “It’s Cool, to be Dumb” crowd.

you should never start a sentence with the word “But”…brainiac
by ANON on Jul 2, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s a fallacy. It’s a spurious rule, incorrectly taught and erroneously followed.

you shouldnt start sentences with the word “But”…mr. brainiac

Open, as a former writer and editor I cringe when reading a lot of these posts. I get what most of them are saying, even the ones who put three or four sentences together with no punctuation or capitalization. I still respond and participate in discussions, but some of this stuff makes me want to jam a red pen into my eye.

Everytime I see someone go all Nazi about grammar and spelling with the whole “I spell and punctuate sentence’s correctly so that makes me intellectually superior to these dumb little gnobbers I’m trying to enlighten” I can’t help but laugh. If correct grammar and punctuation are the prerequisits to intelligence then we’re in trouble. I’d prefer common sense, but thats just me. Anyway, why argue semantics; the purpose of language written or verbal is communication; so as long as I get my point across who cares if I write 2 instead of to?

Your outlook there is kinda bleak Open, correct grammar and spelling aren’t going anywhere; it’s always gonna have a place in business and government. However, IMO; outside of that whats the point? It’s not like you get anything out of taking the time to punctuate everything you write correctly.
I mean, when I die, I don’t think I get points for having spoken/written proper english my entire life. I could be wrong … maybe the afterlife is all based on spelling..

Yea you can tell I’ve got a boring @ss job when I’m arguing about punctuation… :(

Not singling out anyone in particular, but when you spend a good portion of your career fixing those sorts of mistakes they just start jumping off the screen at you.

PW-
It’s a known fact that if you communicate with words you should use proper grammar and spelling.
If you are speaking you should use proper pronunciation.
If you go out to a job interview you should dress appropriately.
Certain things are not debateable.
I am with you on this one.
by OJR on Jul 2, 2009 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Lol, I wouldn’t say it’s not debateable. I use slang all the time. Just my opinion, you might view improper english as uneducated but I think it conveys personality. And a lot of people don’t know this “known fact” OJR cause I don’t think I’ve EVER met anyone that uses proper english all the time. Besides if we all talked the same conversation would be boring as hell.

Yea I figured that PW; it’s probably just a habbit for you. I just don’t get the purpose of the quote from Open:
“Jimmy, i am not trying to pick on you, rather help you out. The word is "HAVE" instead of "OF". He should have leg kicked them… Or I think you meant "should’ve" either way, I hope it helps you out in the future.” ’
Not sure if you are or aren’t but it just seems like you’re talking down to the guy..

O Damn-
Honestly, I don’t judge people by that kind of stuff unless they try to act like a smart@ss.
I was just taught that you should write properly, even if it’s an unimportant OJR blog post.
:)

In a published piece of writing or on anything professional (even an email from stupid companies who surely must hire people who speak ESL), grammar and spelling should always be correct. But on a page full of comments about a sport there’s no big deal.
It’s the difference between people who dress nice all the time and people who are just plain slobs.
by Kobajack on Jul 2, 2009 10:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Dude, when you correct people on their grammar you really shouldn’t display errors in your own usage. Especially not on an MMA site.

I didn’t realize there was a whole stream of replies, so as far down as this post is, it was pointed toward Open24hrz.
I mean, all poor Little Jimmy did was make a simple comment and then Open24hrz comes along, douses the hopeful little flame in Jimmy’s heart, acts like a smart@rse, and contradicts himself at the same time. At first glance, in comparison to LJ’s post, I would have thought Open24hrz was a part of this “New Speak Like It’s A Text Message Generation”.

In other words, don’t be a “I’m a stupid pretentious bastard who thinks he’s smarter than he is” crowd.

It would be different if Little Jimmy said:
he should of leg kicked them dat wood be really cool cuz he has sick leg kicks like my best mate pete who wood kick ur ass bitch.
But one word? The use of the word ‘of’ instead of ‘have’? Yeesh. I smell an @sshole in the crowd. :D

I always wanted to see Antoni Hardonk vs. Mirko Cro Cop, just to see 15 minutes of leg kicks.
This is one of the best pictures I have ever seen. LOL.

Chuck Norris was once asked to repeat himself. The last thing that person ever heard was the wooshing sound of a roundhouse kick.
